less ram than before? - General Questions and Answers

hi everyone
Before, when I had a stock gingerbread rom and the task manager showed that I had 856 mb of ram. After I had flashed the new cyanogen mod 10 (jelly bean 4.1.2), it is now showing only 788. Could someone tell me why this has happened and if it can be fixed? thanks, and sorry if this is in the wrong category, I'm not sure where this question should be posted xD

stuck at 18 megabytes 3rd try
Luckily I dled at 430 lol haha. Woke up with cold sweats and needed to flash something! Flashed and all is well, although I did randomly lose my phone capability once. Called vm and nothing happened no ringing at all. So I called myself and still nothing. Rebooted and its fine. Probably just a hiccup. Thanks guys !

consistantly stops at 18 MB then waits forever and aborts. NEW LINK is needed. bad link that isn't from crowding or it wouldn't stop at the same place 4 times in a row

Can Samsung Galaxy SGH T959W be upgraded to JB ?

Hey guys...!
Can Samsung Galaxy SGH T959W using it for WIND mobile Canada, be upgraded to Jelly Bean or at the least ICS ?? The phone is now running on Ginger Bread 2.3.6 and is too slow and RAM is almost full though there aren't any processes/apps running ..! I have to keep clearing up the memory (
stop clearing memory! that's killing apps, which will in-turn make them run even more often.
Check the General section, one of our greatest devs has verified that you can likely flash our roms, and root with his one click, if you don't flash bootloaders. If you don't understand, find the thread in the General Section, you can't miss it.

Merci! For ur time and guiding me. I am totally new to the droid world.. So it is taking a while to understand the terms.. ) checking the other thread .. Also shud i wait for a possible upgrade to jellybean or do u suggest i shud first try the ics ?

I suggest reading all the stickes, and the wiki for our device. After you understand the terminology and stuff, just remember that you SHOULD be good, as long as you never flash bootloaders.
Thanks again for ur patience. Appreciate it

GT I9300 RAM usage?

Hi guys probably the wrong place to post this so please tell me if I'm wrong.
I'm currently using my GT I9300 with the omega v44 rom 4.2.1 I feel like I may be using a lot of ram compared to stock.
My ram is currently always around the 500mb mark and always clear cache and memory and keep it nice and clean in terms of unwanted apps.
It would be interesting to see what the others are experiencing and whether they have a custom ROM or stock?

Issues in Galaxy S2 Plus I9105 4.2.2 Update

I was Updating the firmware via Odin to MG8 but got the NAND write failed error while flashing the sboot.bin file, unfortunately i checked the NAND erase all and got stuck into the boot logo. I then downloaded the 4.2.2 version Russian Update from samsung-updates.com and flashed it via Odin. Everything went right and the phone is alive again.
I was surfing through forums about the 4.2.2 updates and it was all around that 4.2.2 includes performance issues but i doubt that. The firmware is sometimes laggy and even the Benchmarck score has fallen from 11k to 10k which obviously is not a good thing after a "performance" update. Apps seem loading slowly but every other thing is fine. There were also sayings that the TouchViz will create some issues with 4.2.2 update and that the Galaxy S2 Plus I9105 is the first Galaxy Device to get this update.
Anyone of you experiencing some same? and if any developer know some bug fixes please do contribute...
I have no problem with the 4.2.2 rom. Still on MG8. Was the first build that came out. But first think i do was root and debloat the stock rom. And i also install xtreme core and xtreme booster. Very good work for ram management like v6 supercharger but easier to use. So every time i have used only the half of ram. That means the device is very responsible and snappy. And battery live allways over 3 days. (Not so many 3G use, or music, most use it like a PHONE)

there are issues with some apps, force closing on facebook and facebook messenger... RAM is doing good in 4.2.2
MG8? That's only for the P version. Lucky you it didn't hardbrick your phone, mate
No issues with the Russian MH4 for me. In fact, the 4.2.2 totally eliminates the slight laginess I had with 4.1.2. Battery life is definitely better.
I don't care about benchmark scores as it doesn't reflect real life usage but according to a thread here, users have posted about their scores increasing compared to 4.1.2.
But, like digitaliban, I am rooted and I've debloated a lot of preinstalled stuff.

i soft brick the phone while flashing MG8, i then flashed MH4, it is causing some problems....
Sorry man that you flash MG8 it is only for P Version. I don't check that you are on non P Version. Flash again with the right rom for your device. I hope it works for you.

Same as freezing but you uninstall completely. Via Titanium Backup or Root Uninstaller. Or you could just use a root file explorer and go to system - > app and delete the apks and odex of the stuff you want to remove. A lot of the Samsung stuff run at boot, so it does make a difference removing them. Otherwise, just freeze them.

after flashing 4.2.2 again and a reset factory about 250 Mb is missing
it's like the ram thing
web sites say it have 1GB of ram but when you buy the phone it's about 700MB,so what happened to 300MB? "it's used by system" they answer.
OK,but 500MB of this 700 MB is always full.
i don't care about amount of ram as long as my phone works fine and don't know how much is good for better performance and i know these task killers does nothing.
but what is about this 1GB of ram so important?this is not a PC, it runs it's OS or not?
There are quite a lot of write ups you can find explaining how Android manages it's processes and RAM management.

There is no official KitKat update.. Our phone was dropped support at Gingerbread.. Google doesnt give updates to our phone. Only HTC gives updates. Google updates only Nexus devices.
Unofficial update is on its way... @galaxyfreak is working on OmniROM and probably @sakindia123 will bring CyanogenMod 11 for our device.
So keep calm and flash on .
Yup waiting for it bro

Actually, 4.4 is streamlined to run on 512 MB RAM devices (says some news sources). So, there's an approximately 0 chance of getting a direct upgrade to Kit-Kat That'd be a world first!?
the real question
i think the real question should be what do you expect will be the performance of android 4.4 Kitkat on our device will be?
i tried a lot of roms but performance make me want something like kitkat that have original support in the OS itself that have no bugs and everything runs smooth ??
official or not..it would be awesome.
ya .. waiting for someone to make an unofficial 4.4 build...

Dude if you haven't read Google's statement, they said that devices which haven't got ICS and other updates, will get kitkat directly from 2.3 so doesn't it means that those devices have 512 mb Rom too.
What I'm saying is that they have made it like that the requirement is only 512mb RAM, not any Rom. And if other devices which have gingerbread can get update to kit Kat than any not explorer.
Because if those devices haven't gotten ICS and other updates, which are ought to get kit Kat, it means the have 512 mb Rom, because if they had Rom more than 512 mb they would have been updated to ICS first than maybe jelly bean and than kit Kat, but some devices, according to Google will be directly updated to kit Kat from gingerbread, so there's not a single question of Rom. So it's all on HTC now, whether if they give us an update or not.

I'm not talking about the Google version of Kitkat. That'll fit in just fine. I'm saying that Kitkat with sense 5 won't fit into just 512mb of rom. Cyanogenmod or aosp on the other hand is a completely different question.
