[Q] "File May Not Play" Message - Acer Iconia A700 and A510

When I try to transfer a video file to the tablet from Windows 7, I get a message telling me that it might not be able to play the file, do I want to transfer it anyway? I know that the files will work just fine, but is there any way to prevent it from asking every single time I try to copy a file?

Yeah, you would probably have to edit the windows registry from what I know. And if you are not familiar with it, then it's best to live with the annoying message.
From what I've read, it might actually has to do with the Windows Media Player. As a test, try copying over a small WMA file, and see if you get the same message.

Problems recognising .mpeg files

Hi i have an o2 xda orbit
I installed flash player and was able to download short movie clips and open these just fine.
The next day i tried to do it, when i clicked to download a video it asked me to save...
however this time i was not given any option to open upon save and when i did complete the download and tried to open the short movie file i get an error message telling me that there is no associated programme with this file.
Can someone help me with this? please email [email protected]

Excel files and ActiveStink issues. Please help.

I'm just wondering if this is just my issue or if it's a common issue with WM5/WM6 and or the latest ActiveSync, 4.5. I'm having issues with syncing Excel files that used to sync just fine on WM2003. I have large spreadsheets that are about 325kb in size on the desktop. When I sync the file, it's the same size until I open it and try to make changes and save it. Then I get the following error:
"Unsupported content and formatting may be lost if you save this workbook..."
The only way I can save the spreadsheet is to rename it and create a new one with the same name. It then writes over the original file, taking up to 30 seconds to save. The file is then 969kbs in size. And every time I edit on the PC it goes back to 325kbs. Then when I edit on the PPC, it goes through this again, making the file almost a Meg.
Is there any way to just sync the file with just one format? This is really annoying. Also, sometimes my date formats are changed from month-day-year to day-year-month, or something retarded like that. Really freakin annoying to say the least. You buy MS products and they're not even compatible. I feel like I have a Palm trying to sync Apple documents or something. It's really ridiculous! I'm hoping that one of you genius' can point me to a setting that I've overlooked to fix this. Please help!
PS, I've tried to change the conversion settings in Active sync as well with no apparant effects.

[Q] Downloading Media DIRECTLY from Phone?

Hello,
I really like this phone but there was something that was bothering me from day one. Is there anyway to download media/audio files DIRECTLY off the phone without the use of a computer? For example when my friend sends me an audio file as an attachment and I try to download it, it just opens and streams and if I leave the small app that it opens in it is gone. However, I want to be able to actually download the file and just listen to it offline in normal zune player. Is there any method/hack/homebrew todo this?
I have an LG Quantum unlocked
Thanks You!
Yes there is, look HERE, works for me. (Win7 64bit + WP7 HTC 7 Pro)

Click to collapse
is it supposed to show up as a mass storage now ? i did the trick and it doesnt ... havent restarted comp tho
Thanks CP Geek for your reply. I am aware of that trick and it is great! However, that wasn't exactly what I meant. I meant that I am browsing the internet on my phone and trying to download an audio file to my phone's "Music and Video" hub. In other words I want to be able to download online audio files without the use of a computer at all...
Any takers on this?
at the moment i dont think this is possible ive asked this same question myself with no luck. The file thats streaming is on the device somewhere
this may help u out
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/general-windows-phone-7-discussions/142164-how-download-mp3s-internet.html
now im hoping that with mango or a future update they let u download files through the browser on my windows mobile i download rar, mp3 and zip files all the time and update my library all on my phone on the go without a computer, i hate being tied down to having to use a computer
Yeah that's exactly what I wanted todo Deadwrong.
I checked the thread it looks like they have some progress. Its unfortunate though that they don't have a full solution yet. I was actually thinking of taking a different approach on the matter. If we look at the registry it appears that there are some keys that tell the phone how to deal with PDFs and how to open them. There should be something for telling the OS how to interact with audio files as well. I was wondering maybe it is possible to change that to something that instructs it to download to Music and Videos.
I would think if there's a way to buy music on the phone, then it'd just be a matter of knowing where on the phone to save the files and that would ope up a world of downloading or syncing possibilities outside of using the Zune software.

[Q] [ERROR] Path name too long

I've been looking for hours for a work-around for this, but no luck, so I finally caved in and am asking for help.
I was backing up my sd card to my computer so I could format it.
While doing so, I was prompted with an error that said my path was too long.
I am on windows 7, and I know there is something like a 260 character limit for path names.
So I just made a new folder with a shorter name/path, and copied the files there.
This was good, as I thought I did a good job of figuring something out on my own.
So the problem lies when I want to put all of the files/folders back on my sd card.
I need them back in the folder they came from and I am not allowed to do that.
If anyone has any suggestions, it would be much appreciated.
BTW, the path is F:\Android\data\com.google.android.apps.books\files\volumes\Y7sOAAAAIAAJ
and I need to put the \res folder in there which contains files like
aHR0cDovL2Jvb2tzLmdvb2dsZS5jb20vYm9va3M_aWQ9WTdzT0FBQUFJQUFKJnBnPWNvbnRlbnQtMDA0MCZpbWc9MSZ6b29tPTYmaGw9ZW4mY2RzPTImc2lnPUFDZlUzVTBKb3lRRDA1dFQ4Zm1GSW94LVREUzhIMjlYcGcmdz00ODAmaD0zOTU=
I don't know what this file/folder is for. It looks like it would be something to do with books, but I have never had an app that had anything to do with books, and since its in the \Android\data\ path it looks important to me.
Do I need this folder? will it regenerate itself when said app runs?
Or am I just a complete idiot and I should just delete it and get on with my life?
Thanks in advance
I had the same problem recently. I just skipped them with no consequence. Google Books is the e-reader app for Books purchased through the Market. I actually have books from the market and I still did not encounter an issue. So you should be fine just to skip them.

Unable to delete files

My Moto G (First Gen 2013, on Lollipop) doesn't like deleting files anymore. I think this problem has appeared since the Lollipop upgrade a couple of months ago.
The problem is when I listen to podcasts (using doubleTwist), when I am done listening to a podcast episode, I delete it. This always worked fine in the past.
Now, however, when I try to delete either music files or podcasts from within doubleTwist, most of the time they appear to be deleted, but then show back up on the play list later. I assume this is because it gets removed from the dT database, but then automatically added back in because the file still exists.
If I go into the file system with ES File Explorer, I can see the file. I long-press on it, select delete, and then get a message "[Filename] cannot be deleted" if I do it with one file or "Sorry, operation failed" if I try with multiple files. (ES File Explorer shows the files as -rw).
This is quite frustrating, and I've not been able to find anyone with the same issue using Google. Thoughts?
Refresh or reinstall the app.Try this.
Maybe you encrypted your data.
I have been facing the exact same issue
In fact, when I try to delete videos from MX Player, I get a prompt saying something like "Cannot delete some files. Please check your storage in not mounted as read-only" and followed by something like there has been a change in Android Policy after the 4.4.2.
I have worked around the issue above for deleting videos by restarting the phone. Have not found a way to delete songs though
Regards,
Hardy
