[Q] Missing letter Q in alphabetical list - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
So today i just watch that in alphabet list the letter Q is missing.
I use dynamics 2.0 ROM
Any suggestion how to fix that?
Sorry for my english.
Thanks for any help

Which list? App list or Contact List?
In App list or Contact List, if there is no app/contact starting with any alphabet, then I guess that alphabet is not displayed.
Or is it on any Keyobard?

I checked both lists. The two missing letters Q and X.
In the application list is the Quick Launch program and although it does not show the letters Q, both the list and the election to quickly jump to it.

Probably your language settings.

Not only, "v" letter the same: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400802

So the alphabet I think is by an region format, not a language.
Thanks for your help.

Group Texting

I want to be able to send a text to a group of 7 or 8 people. Can I set something up on Windows Mobile 6 so I don't have to keep adding these people separately?
Try this

...or this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=306682

Hopefully one of these suggested so far will be just what you were looking for.....failing that, there's always Google

Has anyone used them? Can anyone recommend one of the others?

Dude, start typing names into the "to" field with the keyboard. Auto-complete pops up the names of your contacts so all you have to do is select them.
People make too big of a deal about this issue, IMO...
But if it's 20 or 30 people and your have to start typing them each time, that's still maybe 3 or 4 minute job. Also, you have to fish out your list each time to check who needs them.
Compared to being able to type 'Football' or something instead. Myself, I would say it's quite a decent time/hassle saver...
The first link I posted above should work well for you; it's "category-centric", so if you create a "Football" contact category you can assign the required contacts to that category. When using the GroupSMS program, it will list the categories you have defined and you can then pick one (or more); then you just enter the message you want to send....job done!
Read the threads, try 'em out.....

Why it keeps changing my words in T9?

it keeps changing some words, for exemple when I type "digito" it changes to "dígito"
they are totally different words in portuguese
I would like T9 only to have suggestions, not to change automatically the word I'm typing. Is it possible?
I already unchecked all checkboxes in T9 settings, like auto-substitution, auto-correction, etc.
Same to me. As of now, I enabled T9,but I miss the suggestions while writing.
Me myself and I, I'm totally over it! Why have I got a keyboard to tpye in waht eva i Want wHateVa way i wnat if there's somebody watching over my shoulder and telling me what I'm saying is wrong? There has got to be a way to completely remove this thoroughly annoying feature from all message composing!

Yep, I'm with you on this one. I have unchecked ALL the word completion/T9 settings but yet somehow TP keeps suggesting words.
Also, when I try to compose a message whenever I press the arrow keys whole words keep jumping into my text message. It seems that I have to manually refuse every suggested word otherwise it will be written to the text.
In the end the message is useless and I need to be extra careful while typing :-(
Id hate to be captain obvious, but...
did you click the button (the one with the slider) on the virtual keyboard from t9 to abc?
The T9 feature is terribly implemented. I've even complained to HTC, but from the look of the respond given, I don't think we are going to see any improvement on it.
The following is my case report,
Me:
I'm having problem typing using the keyboard via T9.
Basically, it forces me to use only words found in its dictionary. The default setting is on for "Spell Correction", "Word Completion" and "Auto-Substitution". If I turn "Spell Correction" off, I'm still forced to choose the words suggestion by "Word Completion" and "Auto-substitution" if there are similar words found. In my case, I'll have to turn everything off to be able to type anything properly. Even so, the capitalization of letters is still bugging me. If I have a word "Rumah" in the dictionary and I want to type "rumah", it will force the word to become "Rumah" no matter what. This is making the T9 feature useless. I hope HTC would have come out with some solution for this. Thanks.

At least make it so that the typed word appears on the left most, but the suggested word is second, highlighted. This way, if user wants to add the word, he/she just tap on it, instead of tapping the "+" icon and retype the word. Just to make sure that you are aware that tapping the "+" icon will actually ask the user retype the word that he/she wants to add.

HTC:
With reference to your query, we are sorry that for the T9 mode, you can only choose from the words suggestion bar to key in any text. If you want to key in something which is not suggested, please tap the "+"icon from the right end of the suggestion bar to add it as a requently used new word. Or, please press the "ABC/T9" key in the vitual keypad to switch to the ABC mode.

From my experience, this will actually lead to nothing as HTC seems to always use the same reply when the support team couldn't help with anything, that is, by stating that they have forwarded the suggestion/problem to the tech-department.

Implementing a phone number search box, like in the SMS app

Hi XDA,
I'm writing my first Android app, an open source webtext client for Irish mobile networks. The current version of the project can be found here: https://code.google.com/p/webtextr
There's one thing I'm having trouble with though. I'd like to implement a ‘recipient’ text box, where the user can start typing the name of a contact, and after each letter is pressed, it searches their contacts database and provides a drop-down list of suggestions. Then the user could click on a name and it would insert their number into the text box. This would be just like the way it works in the stock SMS app when you go to compose a new message.
Does anyone know how to implement this? I've been looking through the source code of the stock SMS app here https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_packages_apps_Mms/tree/froyo/src/com/android/mms/ui. But... it's *very* complicated and not especially well commented.
Any help would be massively appreciated. Once this is added, the app will be fully functional and perfectly usable.
Bump? Anyone?
I've figured that I should use an AutoCompleteTextView. But any examples I've found online have been broken in some way, and seem to use the deprecated People class.
Is this really as hard as it seems? I'm suprised Android doesn't provide an easy way of doing this...

what are your search setting? How to?

Can you change the way this inspire searches?
If you can not remember the contacts name or the first word of the organization name nothing shows up when your try to search parts of the organization.
Example: Name: John Doe
Organization: Sunguard Window Tenting
If you search for "Window or Tenting", the search does not show anything. If you search for Sunguard, it will find it.
I have a lot of business in my contacts and sometimes I can not remember the first part of the business name. For instance I have several police department names. I would like to just search for "departments" and see my list.
Is this making any sense.....
Anyone else has this issue?

I had the same results while trying to search. It only looks at the first name of each field.
You can put them into different groups but it takes longer to get to that menu then doing a simple search. It also seems you can't do a search based on the group.

[Q] Design for a software tool

Hello everyone,
I am looking for a tool to help me memorize arabic text. This tool should be similar to this one, "How to Memorize Verbatim Text - Productivity501". Please search for that article thru Google as outside links are not allowed here. The tool is at the bottom of the article.
The tool should be able to extract up to first 3 letters of an Arabic word when I copy paste the Arabic text into the tool field box.
Can this be done automatically or will I need this be done manually where someone goes through the text and inserts first 3 letters from each word. What programming language can this be coded in? Which would give the best result? I want it to be a fluid user experience.
Here is an example of Arabic text. Please search for "Learn Quran" thru Google as outside links are not allowed here.
Thanks!
So you want someone to paste text into a box, then this "tool" would parse the data & extract the first 3 characters... then what? What will this tool do with those 3 letters? Simply identify them?

Hi post-mortem, thank you for your reply. yes a tool that wold extract the first 3 letters or just the first letter of every word of a text that you paste on the tool. let's say that certain tool has 2 boxes. on the first box, you paste a text/paragraph. then after pasting it there, the tool would extract the first letter of all the words in the text and show those letters on the 2nd box of the tool. Please check for this article thru google, "How to Memorize Verbatim Text - Productivity501". You will find a very similar tool at the bottom of that article. The tool we want is very similar to that, only that the texts we want to extract the first 3 letters are arabic texts taken from Qaran. Please search for that article thru Google as I am not allowed to post the link here.
Nothing further to do with those extracted first 3 or first letter of all the words in the text. just extract them and show on another box.
Now I would need to know what programming language can be used in coding this tool?
Thank you very much.
You can use any programming language to do that, it's just simple parsing of text. You just look for a space character & take the 1st letter that appears after the space (don't forget the very 1st character). This is even easier than what I thought you wanted, because you don't need to look anything up, and because the Quran has no punctuation, like commas, parentheses, etc.
You can forget all about what you're trying to accomplish now, and just turn to the basics of Android app development. Find a book or online resource to guide you in making an app, and follow that.
