hey guys, im thinking of buying a note 10.1 but really need to have a line in to record audio, does the note support this?
thanks, andy
No line in, just the built-in microphone, or from the headphones with mic., but I doubt that it will take a stereo signal from other device through that jack.

Yes. It does. Kind of. The headphone jack has a microphone in - you need a four pin to two three pin converter:
http://ca.startech.com/Cables/Audio...dset-Splitter-Adapter-Male-to-Female~MUYHSMFF
But that gives you mono input.
A better solution: you can attach a USB Audio device to it and it will become the default audio in/out.

I've tested it with a generic C-Audio USB dongle like this and it works fine.
thanks for the info. interesting how many random usb devices work with android

So hey, I'm searching for some good speakers or a speaker docking station to play music from my G2. Obviously there are an abundance of Ipod/Iphone speaker set ups. I was wondering what products you guys were using and what you think are the best for some outloud listening. Bluetooth streaming? Wifi? I don't even have a home computer, so I'm a little limited. Any feedback would help me out since it's almost Black Friday!! Thanks.

If you can't find a decent dock, you could get a 3.5mm to 3.5mm headphones thingy. Which is what I use for my iPod.
Plug one end into the phone, and the other into your TV. Win?
I must have been over thinking this, I'm gonna give that a go when I get home..only problem is my tv has weak speakers. This could be a good quick fix until I upgrade my system.

I tried this, but nothing..I have an Lg plasma and it dosen't have a specified headphone jack. I just plugged it into the two different spots that would fit the 3.5 mm. chord. One was for a controler, the other was rgb something. I might have done something wrong..Will it just play on any channel?

For my TV, it has the following channels for input
Antenna, AV 1, AV 2, AV 3, Component, RGB, HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDMI 3
For my TV I have to use RGB to get any sound.
Also check you aren't plugged into the TV's headphone jack.

Hi, I hope you can help me out.
I'm trying to record some audio through the 2-in-1-combo-audio jack.
Everytime I connect an external music player to the transformer via audio jack, the transformer does not recognize that somethign is plugged in, but it thinks I want to use headphones (jack as output).
How can I swith to mic mode (jack as input)? Do I have to use a special asus app or is there a good app in the market that can do this?
Thx in Advance!
I doubt that you be able to do that
Why?
The specifications are very clear:
1 x 2-in-1 Audio Jack (Headphone/Mic-in)
Or do I understand this wrong?
I would guess that it will only recognize the microphone when it is connected via a 2 ring connector like a headset/mic combo. A mic by itself would not have a connection that the hardware could recognize.
I am only theorizing based on my experience with with an iPhone.
Hope you like mono recordings...

Maybe it can be achieved after 3.1 and with USB?

Yeah I think you are right, a member of another forum told me the same, that he plugged in an Apple Iphone Headset and the external mic on the headset worked. I also have such combo headsets with the same plug but they dont work. The internal mic still was still active. Could anyone please try to connect your headset and post if
1) the external mic will work
2) the internal mic gets deactivated.
3) and what headset is beeing used?
THX!

Maybe then with additional Accessories, I hope to do this with the standard audio jack, which should be able to do that... at least according to the specs.
Quite possibly it would just need software to work. Since it is in the specs, a headphone/mic combination should work. I noticed tigerdirect was selling a combination headphone/mic as a bundle with the transformer.
You're going to want a 4 pin headset (mic/left/right/ground), which is how modern devices do dual input/output audio. Standard mics are 3 pins (L/R/Ground) just like normal headphones, therefore the hardware cant differentiate. Now the issue may come up on the arrangement of the headset pins. Prior to the iPhone, the standard 4 pin headset was configured in such a way that they would not work as normal headphones in devices that weren't meant to support headsets but Apple (or someone around that time) came along and switched up the order so that a 4 pin headset would be backwards compatible with a 3 pin jack -- a superior setup I say hesitantly, with the only con being that old headsets and new jacks are incompatible and new headphones with old (4 pin) jacks. If Asus is using the old standard, then an iPhone headset would not work and if Asus is using the new standard, then an old headset would not work.
Finally, it works!
I wanted to use an external audio source. You have to connect the cable first to the transformer, and AFTERWARDS connect the other side to the audio source. Only in this order the internal mic becomes deactivated.
If there is any signal on the cable while plugging it in into the Transformer, the internal mic is still active. I've attached my "cable construction".
The side with 4 pins goes into the transformer the 3 pins into a mono audio source (normal Headset Output). This works fine for me since I'm only recording voice (mono channel).
Problem solved!
Is it possible to use the 3.5mm jack on the Nexus 5 as an input source for recording?

I believe the only way is via USB...but you have to use an app as Android does not build in USB recording as does Windows. I use this app along with a USB interface and a microphone on this phone and my tablet. Works great and the dev is a great guy. He also makes a DAW (there's a free version) for recording and editing.
that's... too bad then. thanks for info but.
btw, any suggestion for usb audio in? or usb mic? thx.
anyone? " _ "
I use a pair of wired ear buds that have a built in microphone for calls. I'm running CM11 not stock but I just tested and "Sound Recorder" is more than happy to receive its input via the headset jack. I would believe it's just a matter of finding the right converter plug for your guitar.

I have used ASR for recording, works fine over the headset jack. It is a mono source of course. It won't work with a standard 3.5mm plug of course, you have to have the signal on the microphone portion - which is ground (silence) for the standard plugs.
I used the adapter that came with Dragon Naturally Speaking. It has two 3.5mm stereo plugs to one 3.5mm stereo+mic plug. If you use a 3.5mm stereo cable into the mic side of this adapter it works fine.
You could probably rig up something from Radio Shack, but I didn't have to because this worked, and I don't need the adapter for my computer so it was just sitting in the cord box...
thanks to everyone who replied, truly.
it seems that there are 2 solutions...
1) usb sound w/dedicated app
2) cable that turns L/R input from TRS tip to M input on TRRS tip
the 3.5mm/trrs/(left/right/ground/mic) socket on the phone should work as tdcrone mentioned above. as long as a 3.5mm stereo+mic adapter available, or a custom cable that turns the original L or R input into M on the output end.
this is by far the simpler solution, **if such cable or adapter is available**, the caveat emptor is that the record will be mono, and there could be mic gain issues...?
otoh, the usb solution works, at the cost of having to get an adapter and apps for android costs.
@Vegasden: i see that both USB audio recorder pro and audio evolution mobile daw seem to work with usb recorder, and the latter one is just marginally more expensive?
edit: sorry, just realise that one also needs to buy usb audio recorder pro if she/he wants to use audio evolution mobile daw to do usb record
Is me again.

Does anyone know if the s5 has video out on the braphone jack like old galaxy s devices?
I need a solution to get composite audio and video to a projector. Projector has DVI / svideo / composite/ VGA.
Any ideas? I have seen mhl to hdmi which are cheap but then I would have to convert to dvi and loose audio and run a separate cable.
No but there is MHL to VGA adapters you can buy from eBay etc.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/400785524940
But that's audio only.
I found thus that might do the trick and doesn't need any external power.

Oh actually just looked again and there's an audio out socket on the aide of the VGA.

Says in the description you get video but you can't get audio out of that using S3/4/5 etc. Probably because of the newer MHL standard.
Perhaps they mean on the older phones? The description says AV cable. The A standing for audio and V standing for video. If it doesn't do audio then the item is not as described. I have just queried this with him. You can't have a title saying AV then in the last line if the small print say doesn't support audio.
Does that mean that the mhl to HDMI doesn't carry audio either?

It means it works with audio and video on older devices using the original MHL, but S3/4/5 etc use MHL2.0 with different pinout and that's why you need an adapter, but maybe something about that RCA cable can't use the audio for whatever reason.
But as long as you use that little adapter you can use any MHL to HDMI with audio.
Just checked my MHL version is 2.1 hopefully they will clear it up. If that is the case can't I just use audio out the headphone jack and video from the mhl phonos? Pain in th ass from a wiring point if view but should still work.

Yeah that'll work but audio quality won't be as good, but I guess it's the only way unless you buy a HDMI to RCA converter, but that means plugging 2 separate adapters into the phone and even more hassle.
Yeah plus I already bought that cable haha.
Your right its a massive hassle, I just gave away my iphone as well which was dead easy to connect via RCA, add that to my unable to swap extSD with inSD on kitkat problem and im starting to wish i hadnt bothered with the S5 now.
just bought Monoprice mhl vga converter which is supposed to be 100% compatible but can't connect... nothing happens,.. no sound, no error, just nothing. installed the Rom with stock kernel (thought that might be an issue (since I was running on Twi5ted Lollipop Rom with a custom kernel... same result, while my wife on her htc one m7 running a custom ROM too had no problem... just connect and enjoy... i'm at a loss... anyone here got an advice? thanx.
Galaxy S5 G900F... stock kernel.
I got an MHL converter in the end as well and it works great, you need to plug your charge cable into it as well at the same time to get it to work.
Hi, I recently bought the Samsung galaxy note 4.
Has anyone got the E18 working with it? I would like to know before ordering the E18.
Also I plan to use it with a lot of spotify. Even though that is not the best source I do believe the E18 will still dramatically improve the sound.
Does anyone know if that's true or is it not worth bothering getting an E18 if spotify is my source?
Thanks,

According to the guys over at headfi, it is a software issue. Kitkat does not support music over usb. You will have to wait until Lolipop comes out that will support music over usb. You can still use the Fiio as a regular amp, just no DAC
I also order one myself from the Massdrop deal, i should have it by Tuesday, my Beyerdynamic 770 are useless without a AMP/DAC.
Thanks kryz70fr, does it work as a DAC or just as a AMP? Are you using the kitkat version of android?

My portable setup for 16bit audio is/was an old 5.1 ipod w/ Wolfson DAC, AMP'd with the TTVJ Slim. My portable setup for HD 24bit audio is an Astell&Kern 120 Titan, no AMP. My portable cans are Beyer D's DT1350's @ 80ohms and Westone 4R IEMs @ 31ohms.
I've recently put a fair amount of 16bit audio on my Note 4 and use Neutron as my player. After boosting up the preamp a bit in Neutron, I can run my DT1350s with no amp and still get an excellent sound signature compared to my ipod/TTJV Slim setup. Very happy with the sound.
I don't see the Note 4 being able to drive cans that are much > 80ohm of impedance without an AMP. Honestly, 80ohms is at the higher end of the scale to be driven by most portable devices/phones, something in the 30ohm range would be a better choice. I'd say my 1350's require about 20-25% more volume relative to my 4Rs.
Which DT770s do you have, the 32, 80 or 250ohm version?
You don't need any software like audio pro. I use it with e18 and e17 from fiio. Note 4 has native usb audio. Just get a nice player like poweramp or neutron.

verified e18 works with note 4
Hi guys I found an e18 to test w/ my note 4 and it works as a DAC no problem with android 4.4.4.
Finally I can listen to music in a decent & portable way
Only two minor complaints - the USB mini to USB mini cable that comes with the e18 seems too tight. Hopefully doesn't wear out the connector.
The other item is when music isn't playing you hear a little static on occasion (at least when spotify is running & no music is playing) but I think I read this on a review saying it's pretty hard to eliminate this the source being a smartphone so I can accept that.

Charges for me. Did you try selecting 'CHG OUT' and also powering on the e18 i.e. turning the volume knob higher than 0? The cable you should be using is the same as DAC i.e. middle. You can't use the side connector i.e. the one you use to charge the e18 to also charge your phone.
