[Q] nobody really knows what happened? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

question mark for battery status in status bar:
occasionally (not always) when deeply drained battery at reboot -big mark instead of loading system
-rooted, unrooted, wiped, restored, own charger, original few months old battery only, different themes tried, battery reinserted before and after plugging, TRIED EVERYTHING.
NOTHING RESOLVES PROBLEM
NOBODY 100% KNOWS WHAT CAUSES THIS PROBLEM.
not asking anybody to guess NOT TO TELL ME if somebody is SURE or CERTAIN
BUT IF ANYBODY KNOWS?????
NOBODY?

No-one HERE knows, because you're in the wrong forum. Razr HD is only 1 month old, and has non-removable battery. Try posting in the forum for your device, you might get some answers that way.

Battery Problems after ROM flash

So here's the story..
Flashed the ROM to WM6 (Dr.Dots BlackDiamond 3.1). Had a couple hickups where I had to go through it a coupe times, but after an hour or so, got it and it's worked fine since. Ever since though, I've noticed that my battery meter doesn't reflect the charge of the battery. When I click on the battery icon, it tells me that the battery status us "unavailable" and shows nothing. Got the Battery Status .cab, loaded it on the phone, and it shows a charge of "-1%." Phone dies today on the way home from work. Plugged it into my car charger and nothing. It won't charge there at all. I can leave it pugged in for about 20 minutes and attempt to turn it on and it'll come up into the white and pink "tmobile" screen then dies out. Same thing when I plug it in here on the desktop. When I plug it into the actual home charger, it comes up, charges and I have the LED illuminated on the MDA.
My question is, has anybody else experienced this and what is the fix? I've seen a couple threads about "jumpstarting" and whatnot, but I've got to believe that there is another problem that isn't allowing me to charge with a car charger or a usb desktop charger. I never had this problem with the POS Tmobile ROM so I'm not thinking its a hardware issue at all.
Can anyone out there let me know if there's something I'm doing wrong? I don't know if there's a software conflict with the stuff I have on my MDA or if there are issues with my current IPL/SPL/GSM/OS that aren't allowing it to function correctly.
Any help is alway appreciated.
Thanks guys,
Ivan
nobody has any ideas???
So my battery status shows -1% with the empty bar. 100% signal...can't be right, never is always 100%. And the temp shows a steady 32* F...Im in my living room and it ain't that cold.
Maybe remove and reinstall it??
Isn't there supposed to be some kind of battery status indicator on most WM6 ROMs??? I have nothing at all...
-Ivan
Ok, don't anybody rush to help a brother out....lol!
SO I flashed to 2.47.11 Radio and all of the sudden, guess what?
That's right, I now have a battery status showing and I can charge from the computers USB port...
Friggin phenomenal.
So hopefully the new Radio ROM won't give me crap when it comes to actual calls.
Anybody else running this Radio? Experiences with it?
Thanks again,
Ivan

[Q] Problem with battery status

I recently flashed Elelinux GB 2.8 for my HTC Hero, but now it won't show my battery regression, so it stays at 100% until it's empty. Quite inconvenient, and I would ask ele myself but I am not considered an expert member yet. Anyone who can give me some advice on what to do now?
A quick update, I have tried flashing a different ROM and that didn't help. The thing is, when I reboot my phone it updates the battery status, but only for a few minutes after is has booted, so after those minutes it's stuck again. Seems a hardware problem to me, any ideas?
Have taken out the battery, removed the sim+sd card and pressed the power button, everything back in, no joy. Have removed the battery for a dozen times, no fix.
Small update, it works now and then, I guess we are not going to find a definite solution.

[Q] [Question] Battery LED becomes gray sometimes with a "!"

Hello People,
Can somebody help understand why the Battery Icon turns on Gray with a "!" in the middle of it, and in battery information, status shows Unknown for 2 minutes ?
Thanks for your help
never heard of that, check battery contacts to ensure that they're clean, ensure fast boot is off before you power down device, you'll find option in settings, power.
I'd install a battery usage application like battery monitor widget and see what it reports during these "grey" moments
Swyped from HTC Desire S using XDA Premium
Thanks I'll do that now and see if the problem persist, will monitor also the battery; maybe i'll return the phone if the problem persists.

report back with the usage figures that you get and we can see if the battery is working as expected, other wise you may be better of simply trying to get a new battery on warranty rather then send in your device and loose it for a couple of Weeks, as it could be either battery or device that is faulty

Your battery is very probably bad. Is it a genuine HTC? Stop using it if it isn't!
Battery is Genuine came with the Phone !
I'll buy one from Muggen @1800mAh
I went to Vodafone to explain the issue, but you can't talk to an Uruk'hai you know !
Anyway, I wasn't expecting any help from them, as they're sharks like the others.
Thank guys for your help, I'll try with a new battery and give a feedback...
PS : Also contacted HTC...No comment, the poorest Tech.Support I've ever had to deal with. You ask a question with details, the answer is in 4 words -> Battery out of charge. and then they closed the case.thanks HTC.
this happened to me when the battery wasn't properly inserted
Ok finally HTC support answered that the icon means OUT OF CHARGE...Or that there's a problem ))))
Anyway the problem disappeared after I uninstalled Battery Widget.
Still waiting the new battery @1800mAh
Thanks all for your support and advise.

Gray/Icon episode 5 saison 1
Hello again,
Something strange happened yesterday....I configured the power management on the phone to switch to economic mode @20%, and when the battery reached 20%, the icon appeared for 1minute again, and disappeared.
I think HTC described correctly the issue Out Of Charge, the icon appears once the battery is about to be OOC...we'll see later the results and the evolution.

I would certainly try to return just your battery under the inital warranty....and see if it continues to occur afterwards with the one that they replace it with!
I have exactly the same problem on my phone. Talked to HTC, this is what the online support told me:
James: Have you tried removing the battery?
James: I recommend that we perform a soft reset on the phone. This is done by removing the battery from the phone while it is still powered on. Leave it out for 5 minutes and then put the phone back together and switch it on.
That's not good advice, is it?
Episode 6
Hello,
Not sure it's a good idea...are you sure you talked to a HTC support agent?
Taking off the battery while the phone is on....:-S wouldn't try it.
FYI I reset the phone from the menu, the problem still persist, I don't think it's a soft issue (or maybe it is? Bug, error, or I/O misunderstood by the code?) Anyway....for the moment my phone isn't doing it since I uninstalled the battery widget, will test it again with the Mugen battery when it'll arrive, and keep you informed about the original one until then.

WOw! that is really awful advice, although at least they had you wait before re-inserting the battery......A soft reset of the phone is simply to restart it from the Power Menu!
Ouch!
To power off properly, just reboot into the boot loader and then select power down.
That's off, off.

Random Shutdown..slightly different view on this problem

Update 14/09/2012
Ok, I don't think what I had in mind helped. On 13th, I had multiple shutdown while trying to use cameras and today had multiple shutdown while on the phone to someone.
Think I will try doing something with Firmware next, now have a feel it might be the cause. I have no idea what is wrong, so just going to give with anything really. Will report back soon.
Update: 13/09/2012
After a complete drain the first time, by booting into recovery and bootloader (just want to remind everyone that this is because I can't make my phone boot). Then I left it on charging for the whole night, and I did this through wall charger NOT USB. I think I read it somewhere that they recommended this when calibrating your battery. Then the next day got 1 random shutdown, then I used it until it is completed drain again. Then followed by another full charge using wall charger. Today I have been using it for 6 hours and 21 minutes, haven't had a single problem. I don't know how not doing this would cause the phone to shutdown, but doing what I did seems to be working so far. I can actually rely on it for something now, say important phone calls.
Here was my reply to elvisypi:
Just to answer your question, it would random shutdown (not so much reboot) at anytime, at any battery percentage. I could do be doing anything, using any app, sometimes when I am not even using the phone.
I don't think it's a hardware/battery/ROM/kernel problem, I tried to say that it is a combined problem caused by flashing a phone too many times maybe or too often in a period of time. Also I was just about to update saying that calibrate battery does help. I had no reboot so far and this is only the second full charge and full drain I did.

After reading kushXmaster's post (click here) about how to add an object to help the battery stay in position (or get better connection), I found evidence that my issue was different. Before anyone ask, yes I have tried kushXmaster's idea, and no it did not work for me.
Ok, this is what I found. I had this problem not only with my current phone (htc sensation) but also with my previous phone (htc desire). So now thinking about it, it can't be the hardware problem. Cos the same problem happening to 2 different phones is pretty unlikely, not impossible, but very unlikely. The other thing was that my phones (both) didn't do this at the start when it was new, and it has only been like this a few months later (since I rooted it). For those who already guessed, yes I believe it's the flashing phones which is messing it up. However I don't know the reason or understand what is wrong with the phone. I have tried wipe battery stats and calibration, nothing worked, the only thing I found was when I go back to Sense 4 roms the problem seems better, but it is still there.
The last and most important reason why I am don't think this is a battery or hardware problem, is that my phone boots into bootloader or recovery with no problem (no reboot or shutdown). But when i tell it to boot normally it decides it hates me and turns it self off.
I am currently experiencing this problem, my phone is in recovery and I am waiting for battery to drain completely. Then gonna do calibration from there, hopefully this will work. I will keep you guys updated. Also if anyone has suggestions please leave a comment, and also let me know if anyone else is in the same position, good luck!
If you want to drain your device battery faster or more nicer way put screen timeout to never and like this you can still use your phone normal and drain the battery aswell just a little tip

If I could get it to turn on then I have a lot of ways to drain it quickly, but like I said it won't boot without shutting down before I could do anything. I turn it on, and I see the lock screen then bam it is shut down again.

If you get random reboots, shutdowns, than don't even bother to calibrate the battery. It has nothing to do with the calibration. Tell us more info, how do the reboots happen, how often, what are you doing when it happens, etc. It could be a kernel/ROM problem, charger, battery, hardware. Pls give us more detailed info

Thanks for the tip, but tbh if i know all that I don't really need to be asking anyone. For example, if it is a ROM problem, i just change ROM. The problem is that I don't know the cause and it seems to be everything and anything, it will shut down at different length of time, sometimes when it just starts, others 30 seconds after boot has completed. I am not looking for a solution, I am more wondering what everyone else has experienced when they say they have random reboots or shutdown, because after tones of research no one has provided anything that fixes my problem.

I had a same reboot problem and tried the kushXmaster's trick with the business card and did not worked for me either, at the beginning…
There was no reboot or shutdown in bootloader mode in my device either. When I flashed new firmware and ROM the problem was gone, but only for few weeks. I tried multiple ROMs also, but always with the same result. This is why I was skeptic with the business card battery fix also.
But then I read kushXmaster's thread again and put an alu foil as shown by Shreyas Jani and pulled the ground pin as described by StuartTheFish. I still do not understand what happened, but my phone is working perfectly more than a month now, without restarts and shut downs. I do not know which solution helped (not sure if I placed a business card correctly before). But I do not want to experiment with this anymore. I did not even removed a battery cover since that time and I'm glad it is all working now.
Hope this helps.

I experienced exactly what you experienced, when i flash a new ROM it is ok for a while. Then just gets to the stage where it happens again. I also tried almost every single ROM I could find, only sense 4 seemed to help but still didn't solve this problem completely.
Thanks for the help, really useful. If what I am trying now doesn't work then what you suggested will definably be my next hope. Cheers!
Edit: I know what you mean, if it works that back cover is not coming off.
same as you
I experience now typically the same problem as yours.
Did changing firmware helped? And how to do this?

[Battery - LG NEXUS 5] Always 0%!!!

Hello to all, as in the photo that I enclose, since replaced the display on my nexus 5, the indicator of the battery charge remains always at 0% ... if the detachment from the current, continues to run regularly for a few hours.
I also tried replacing the battery with an original but to no avail. If i turn off the phone there is no way to turn it back on if you disconnect the battery, attacking power, get it going in the bootloader, reattach the battery and then start ... crazy stuff. What do you think?
Sorry my english and thnks for helps!
Hello,
I am having the same problem after having replaced the battery... Did you find any solution? Thank you
Same problem here. I revived the phone after a water drop but now have exactly this problem. All good except for this. I replaced the battery but still the same.
The phone can use normally, just don't know how much battery left because always shows 0%.
And if turn off need to open it, disconect the battery, connect the charge, turn on and when google appear connect the battery back. Kinda weird but is how it works now.
Any way to solve this?
The same problem
It happened to me and I am looking for a new battery in Egypt
I have the same problem.
Even with a new OEM battery this happen.
Any news about a solution?
Exactly the same problem.. any solution?!
