as u go to higher versions of android your battery backup will decrease but your user experience will be great. instead of going to froyo, try ICS. its great

Are custom roms worth it if I already have quite a lot of internal memory (~90mb) becos of link2sd and 1ghz processer becos of milestone overclock?? Do custom ROMs provide more advantages than the ones stated above? Any help would be appreciated!!
Are you on a stock Android 2.2 ROM?
If yes, then you can stay on. There are some tweaks on custom ROMs but nothing much that you would miss.
If no, then its a no brainer. Just move on to a custom 2.2 ROM without any delay. The XT720 will be like a new phone for you in all respects be it performance or usability.
Cheers

No im just on the stock 2.1. Performance and stability wise it is better if I move to dexter's 2.2 rom?? but i already have a 1ghz processor and loads of internal space free. what other advantages do the custom roms provide?
I have found that my battery life as well as the overall performace of my phone have improved since updating to Dexter's Froyo v1.3. Before my phone was crashing and restarting for no reason running Eclair now it is running as it should. Thanks Dexter, XDA and all other developers for all that you do.
So you think Dexter v1.3 is the best one?Im on steelepic and have few probs, the phone reboots itself,it gets slow itself, batterie trayns faster.......

yes but now we'll have the kernel source code!
Wrong section bro. btw ya really good news...also my GB with sense 2.1 odex nand fit version is done will upload it soon...after first boot data partition has 110Mb for apps data...
I believe 10 days ago HTC announced Desire won't be getting Gingerbread, because of memory problems.
@htrx, they said htc will remove some of the app so they can fit GB.
Great news, if we get more out of the official version.
And 9 days ago they retracted that statement following a massive rollocking by the community
great news i think
Hope for a better kernel (and for snq´s extras on this)
also for better radio, ril, wifi..and battery
with kind regards..Alex
"Exciting" news for the ones not rooted LOL
Reading the above statement correctly though just says they will be announcing when the update will be coming next week. So for all we know they could say GB for Bravo will come next year!

Biblically epic! Just remember to exclude that bloatware you are always including in your ROMs...
My phone is rooted, and i have GB already, but this official+Our dev's edits will rock in the air, i mean no bugs at all...
Mmmm...
I think you'll find the only thing of interest are the Kernels... anyone who wants Gingerbread on their device has had it for months... they sure aren't going to add any Sense 3 stuff either which I've been enjoying for a long time. Good job we have techy wizards in this community who know how a ROM should be put together

But it will be a proper Desire GB rom, not a patched together mix of other Roms. I havent switched back to a sense rom due to this.
Im happy with Redux, but with a proper Desire GB Rom Ill be interested

+1 for this, i know what you mean...essentially all hd gb sense are based on rcmixhd or neo´s rom...(include mine..as i have not the time to patch the hd rom complete to make it work for desire)
and if we get it...it´s make/done for desire...so i think it have better performence..
with kind regards...Alex
I would love to see this rom somewhere in XDA, stock GB from htc on the desire

Like everybody else...the path to custom ROMing on our Milestone is via the G.O.T Update method which u can learn all about it at this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811221
Once u have successfully applied the G.O.T Update method, u are free to flash any custom ROM
In my expirience Eclair is way faster then froyo n' GB, all that fastest screens switching and menu animations prove nothing:
Try to run Aura navigation and listen music while you using navigation, its almost impossible and try to make a call. While on eclair everything works well.
Google Maps on GB ROM works terribly slow and that's a fact!
I have Milestone 1.5 year and I tried almost every ROM, it took over six months when I went back to eclair and finally my phone working well without freezing and random reset.
Maybe what thre3aces was trying to say is Gingerbread ROM is not so good at multi-tasking due to lack of RAM on our Milestone as Gingerbread ROM demands more RAM.
But when it comes to the speed of launching apps, I believe FROYO is faster at lauching apps than ECLAIR due to the introduction of JIT and Dalvik Cache.
Anyway, best to try every ROM and decide for yourself.

Why would anybody want to listen to music while using a navigation app. The music will hinder you from listening to the voice turn by turn navigation. Besides, I can play music on my car's stereo player.
And why would I want to make a phone call while the navigation app is still running and music playing at the same time?

I have radio in my car with bluetooth A2DP so I listening music from my milestone and I don't need navigation voice cause I rather to look at map.
Anyway I like to listen music when playing Angry Birds, what's wrong with that?
Everybody using his phone in his own way, for me everything works better on 2.1 but I miss some 2.2/2.3 features.
I didn't try Cronos Ginger, I have to do it.

Hi there,
Since most of the talks about the battery mod is taking place in this forum I decided to ask for it here.
I've been using the stock 2.3.3 Gingerbread (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106375) and I already tried a couple of methods of applying a mod for 1% battery increasement.
Putting a different services.jar has only made me restore the device
Anyway the question is - can someone post a method of getting the 1% trick?
There was a mod for Froyo made with libandroid_servers.so - perhaps someone can do the same for GB.
Thank you for help.
Mike.

Hi Mike, for you have batery status in 1% it's more easy install MS2Ginger of walter79, this Rom is better in many aspects and work 1%/1% battery. Read here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140839

Given the market icon that represents android 2.1, I'd wager it's just a modified stock rom...could be me, but wasn't this done more than enough times already? Like almost 2 years ago? Android 2.1 is completely obsolete and nobody really wants it anymore...plus, liquidsense and nfx are already the best 2.1 roms out there...nothing can really be done to improve on them...OP, why not just use Android 2.3? I could just ruu and root if I wanted this

That's good job man. Ive been wanting to learn how to do this stuff but i just never get around to it.
You took a step in the right direction. Keep up the good work.
good to have another stock rom easily accessible, thanks for this
Multilingual ?
Does this rom support Multilingual?
Thanks
hey money,
if you want to reduce rom size, offer anything non-system essential in an optional update.zip. i see from screenshots you have pacman and nba, those could be offered in a separate zip. if you need any help at all doing this, feel free to ask, and ill help as much as possible. keep up the good work, i know you will go far.
maybe also if we feel froggy we can adapt aroma to your rom and let users choose exactly what they want and dont want?
also i see your on cellular south, maybe offer a separate update.zip for a sprint fix? this would include mms.apk from a sprint stock rom, sprint eri.xml, and telephony.db from a sprint rom. that way both carriers are supported.
