[SOLVED] Possible brick after ruu update - HTC Desire S

Hi. First of all sorry for giving such a short description but im at work at the moment.
I tried to revert my desire s back to stock using ruu tmob uk file (I have tmobile uk version). It could not detect my mobile for some reason and I though its because of my hboot version which was 2.00xxx something. So I jave downloaded some pg88img.zip with older hboot 0.99.0000 and applied in bootlader mode. But still my hboot was 2.000 even after several reboots. But still ruu updater couldnt see my phone. Turns out that hyc sync needs to be uninstalled and that solved the problem. In the middle of updateing message appeared "wrong bootloader version" or smtg like that. Since then I only can access bootloader and fastboot. Hboot version is 0.99.0000 now and I get message on the top of the screen security warning. I tried so many things but nothing seems to work. I have got my buckup but cant flash because of locked bootloader. I cant use revolutionary method because I cant use adb. Htcdev method dont work either. Is there anything I can do?
I can give some more details once im back home. Cheers.
RUU_SAGA_ICS_35_S_HTC_EU_14.01.401.2_20.76.30.0835_3831.19.00.110_275068 solved my problem. Thanks

Lol, a new genius every day. Hboot 0.99 is for Incredible S.
Try 7.00.1002 as PG88IMG it may work. The other way is ICS RUU, then HtcDev, then downgrade

Thanks for the comment but as I said I was at work and everything I wrote was from my crap memory ;P Hboot i have now is 0.98.0000 S-on
I will try your suggestions. Thanks

OK, this is different.
You need 1.47 t-mobile RUU. Search through the forum there was a similar question recently and I posted a link to it.

I am stuck for 2 days Need help PLZ

Hi guys
I have really strange problem, could you please help me out.
I am was using insert coin rom 4.4.1 and every thing was good so far,
Then i have realized that i have s- off and rooted my phone but i didn't super cid it
So i want to do that, i have supercid it by following the steps listed in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300.
After i reboot the phone, it stayed in the flash screen (HTC screen)
I have reinstalled the rom and even other roms, but nothing was done.
I have tried to reflash it using firmwire 3.24 but samething.
FYI: i have already supercid it i have checked it by adb and it is 11111111
There is small problem, i didn't remember my proper cid, all i know it is a europe version of sensation.
i have this written in recovery session:
REVOLUTIONARY
pyramid PUT ship s off RL
boot 1.27.1110
Radio 11.21.3504.13.2
Open ADSP V02-6-0.2226.00.0104
EMMC-boot

Please help me i am lost here, DONT TELL ME THAT I HAVE DAMAGED THE PHONE!!
Thanks
Not sure if this will help
Hey I am not sure about your problem not heard of this. Maybe you need to super cid before flashing new firmware. Maybe if you can remember what your cid was before, you can change back and see if it makes any difference. maybe once returned to the stock cid you can revert firmware and then super cid. I am not sure though! I am just taking a stab at it since no one else has answered. here is a link with some firmware and it also tells stock cid's for different carriers/countries. Also maybe try flashing different firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
maybe that will refresh your memory to what yours was.
Good Luck
P.S. I think that since you still have access to recovery you will be able to resolve the issue (not hard bricked yet), just need to figure out what the problem is exactly.
Given that you still have access to your SDcard, trying flashing a new rom and firmware (go for Virtuous Inquisition).

I have already tried other roms:
Android rev-hd 3-16-13: negative result
RCMix_ICS_v311_STbase: negative result
The problem is all roms stuck in the splash screen, i have looked in some threads that some people have 30 min for the first boot, for me i kept it for 1 hour or more but it seems that it is stuck, i have checked the temp it isn't hot so may be when i have supercid it , did i make something wrong to supercid it after installing the rom??

If you wanna use ARHD 3.6.13 you need to downgrade your firmware to 3.12 or 1.17 it won't run on 3.24
I would downgrade your firmware, go to a GB rom, get it so your phone boots, then go through the process of going back to ICS.

Last time when I had major issue with my phone, I flashed couple different firmwares and different ICS and GB ROM. And somehow it worked for me. I'm just saying there's always hope. Dont give up! And good luck!
flash the latest official eu RUU, if nothing works.
You can always s-off/root then afterwards.

Nothing, most do not use fastboot commands, so don't worry about it. You are still s-off and able to flash any rom you desire.

you need to STOP flashing random firmware...if you don't know what it is and what the outcome is going to be, do not flash it

I have downgraded my firmwire to 3.12 and i have used hd 3.16.13 GB rom.
The bad news is that nothing done yet, stucking in HTC splash screen.
But there is something i want to add, may be is the clue to this problem .
I have realized that when i remove my SD card from the phone and i want to read it in my PC, it appears protected each time and this is strange (virus effect).
may be my SD card was damaged and it is the only problem of stucking???
What do you think guys??

Perhaps you accidentally set some sort of sharing protection on the SD card, which doesn't let the phone access the adequate files? If so, try reformatting your card on fat32. And then copy back the firmware/rom and attempt flashing again.
i have already formatted the SD card, coping Rom and firmwire PG58IMG reflash the rom .
Still stuck in HTC S screen.
What about RUU?
Any suggestion ?

If your bootloader says LOCKED like you previously indicated then you can not use fastboot commands as kpjimmy already said. Because you never supercid your phone you probably have some partial firmware update.
If I were you I would flash an older RUU to get to a known stable config and then start over.
No i have changed the firmwire and it is written revolutionary in purple.

You have to remove the firmware from the card after flashing it. But to bypass it, does your phone boot once you flash the rom and then remove the sd card?
kpjimmy
when i updated the firmware hboot then the phone wrote push the power button to reboot, the problem is the phone will try to run the rom already installed in the phone, so i am forced to remove the battery and then remove the firmware from my PC.
in order to install the new rom.

I flashed a RUU and it worked, i then wrote s-on via adb and it now only boots into hboot, says-s-on but i cant do any functions,, at the top it says locked and security warning. I tried running the RUU file again but it just didnt work, says it cant upgrade the adndroid version. Please help, im desperate. On the RUU, it says ERROR 132. It stops after the updating signature procedure.

Please confirm when you say RUU, this is an executable file from the manufacturer or your carrier? This should work when you are S-ON but if you are trying to flash a custom ROM from recovery, then this definitely won't work.
Its an exe RUU for HTC Europe, sensation ics stock. It worked perfectly fine but then i put s-on....and presto. I got it from the thread on xda, quite a large and famous one.
Did you want to be S-ON for a reason? The only thing I can really suggest is to go S-OFF and start again.
How can i get to s-off if the phone wont fully connect to the coimputer because it's stuck at hboot? The s-off revolutionary toll just cant pick it up. I can get it in adb so to speak, i went of the image calculoate option at hboot and then adb picks it up if i do fastboot devices but then no other command works.

Can you get into recovery? A trick I found can work is to open up a command prompt on the PC, type 'adb reboot recovery'. If you get "error: no device found", then hit the up arrow and enter to run the command again. At some point the command will work and you get no response instead of the error, then it should boot into recovery.
Read the follwoing two threads . They may help you.

[Q] Screaming for help! (bootloop on xe)

Ok, so I was trying to upgrade my sensation xe's firmware for the installation of Android revolution HD, but unfortunately... I thought it had finished updating when it turned back into bootloader, so i rebooted and it stops at the beats logo and reboots. So I read once again all the instructions and it turned out that it hadn't finished updating. What can I do to stop the bootloop? I can factory reset and erase everything on it if i need to, i just got the phone so there isn't much on it.
EDIT: It gives me an error when i boot into bootloader and it tries to update with the PG58IMG.zip: CID is incorrect.
Maybe that's because i didn't superCID? I didn't superCID because the OP here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618 said "If you have Super-CID, it can be flashed even on regular Sensation (PG5813000)." So I thought that I didn't need it for the xe.
I had a similar issue when i first got my sensation. Can you get into bootloader? and if so does it try to update firmware again?
Yes I can, and yes it does, it gives me CID is incorrect. But now it doesn't bootloop, it just stays at the htc screen and doesn't move...
You obviously have the wrong firmware for your CID. Because you are not super-cid it means you have to have a firmware that is specific to your cid. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
This thread explains how to get the right firmware and find your phones cid but im not sure how youd go about it if your phone wont boot.
My CID is HTC_E11 i think. It had an 11 in it anyway....

You can try flashing the User Friendly Firmware from here - Do download the right file according to your CID/Location
Alternatively, you can always revert to Hboot 2.17 from the same link.
Well if thats the case, put your sd card into your computer if you can, delete the PG58IMG.zip in there and replace it with the correct one from that thread and let the bootloader update it. But before downloading one off there make sure you get the right version which for android revolution will be 3.30
Hope you manage to get this sorted.
Cid is incorrect.... see picture attached.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195475
have a read of this thread, the guy on there has made a list of CID's. He also put which phones and networks have which CID.
Unfortunately my cid is not there as I bought mine from egypt, but anyway I bought the phone unlocked.
have you tried flashing hboot 1.17?
I'll try it now.
Is it factory unlocked with no branding? and was that incorrect cid message when trying to update with the firmware from the link?
I think my problem is solved!!!! Thank you guys The firmware i had was the wrong version now i'm waiting for it to boot... it's taking a long time though...
I'll wait and just hope for the best... if it doesn't work i'll try to put hboot 1.17
If it has fixed your problem, it might be benificial to super-cid. Purely because each rom usually reccomends different peoples firmwares, and lets face it, better to flash the reccomended one and be safe. Plus with supercid you havent got to worry that it will do this again if you get the wrong one
It seems to be working as it doesn't give me the CID is incorrect error but now it doesn't boot, it just stays at the htc screen....
EDIT: I guess it's the right firmware because it doesn't give me the error, but it's not working, so should i try a restore?
Is the firmware still on your SD card? if so delete it then go into recovery and flash the ROM you wanted. the reason its stuck on the HTC screen is probably because the ROM that you are coming from cant work on the current firmware.
As sparx180 said, remove the PG58IMG file from your sd card or remove your sd card temporarily while you get into bootloader, then with your phone plugged into your pc change the cid to supercid, re-add the PG58IMG file or re-insert your sd card, reboot the bootloader and let it update. I had the same thing with the cid last night on my girlfriend's phone, bloody pain in the ass!
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710 using XDA App
Oh and the restore is not a good idea if you are not on the same firmware version that you made the backup on. If you cannot get it to boot then you can always flash the firmware you were on before attempting this update and restore a back up and start from scratch.
So should i flash the rom first or supercid first? I'm coming from the stock rom...

Help an idiot out

so i unlocked my device via HTCDev.com thinking since its htc device and all they said was i had to unlock bootloader to flash custon OS's i already knew about S-OFF but being the site didn't talk about it(why would it) i went and flash virtouous ROM and got stuck at the HTC screen. i wasnt thinking so i never backed up the stock HTC Rom!!
now i tried 2 of those RUU's in the shipped rom thread the tmous ones with 29 and 50 both saying wrong version.
my question here is there anyway to get at least one RUU to work or get s-off from HBOOT?
my reason of doing this after going back to completely stock is i cant wait any longer for HTC/Tmobile to get us ICS so i tried the custom way and failed lol
I am sure unless you super SID you will have to find ROMs specific for the country the phone came from.
Eg my phone was from Asia region and I could not flash Euro ROMs
ok from the Shipped rom thread in the dev section for the sensation i was trying to go back to stock to gain s-off but the tmous(USA) which is where i am from said wrong version.

i guess out of the 2 stock ruu"s from the post doesnt match that?
edit: ok from what i learned in another post i opened up the rom.zip file and looked at android-info.txt both the cid and mid matched my phones from the RUU file "RUU_Pyramid_TMOUS_1.50.531.1_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_223976_signed" buuuuttttt it tried to update it but fails saying i need to correct version :\

If you can get into fastboot you should be able to flash RUU from there. Just download the RUU.exe and run it as administrator. Follow the prompts in the exe program while your phone is in fastboot mode.

Maybe iCrap is better for you. When you use Android phones and want to complete unlock them for flashing customroms aso you shoud realy learn to read before you do something. I hate it when people are not able to read about the stuff they want to do and when something goes wrong they blaim Android for it.
To get s-off, super CID and root on a HTC Android device is realy easy if you read the how-to threads and normaly takes about 15 minutes.
Have fun with your iCrap 4S and please don't try to jailbreak it before you read some stuff.

first off let me say i have rooted and flashed roms on my sensation before just fine. i was unlocking via htcdev.com and figured their method didnt require s-off since it didnt say anything about it. it just talked about unlocking it to put customs os's on it. 2nd i always had a love hate thing for IOS since i had the 3G and ipod touch.
far as using the RUU'ss it tells me i need the correct Ruu version or something like that. maybe because i didnt run as admin but i have all that stuff turned off due to the theme i used for windows 7 required it off.
If I were you I would Super CID your device. That is what I had to do. A great guide that I used was http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472298

You can recover this. Firstly read this guide, regarding downgrading hboot and getting s-off.

The problems are due to HTC.dev not unlocking all parts of the boot loader - you can't flash radio.img or boot.img so nothing is working.

Downgrading hboot

Hey everybody,
after updating to JB with the official RUU found here, the gps is not working properly.. i find it very annoying.
so i decided to downgrade the hboot and try to run the ICS ruu..
i read the tutorial found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1990043
but it says not to do that if the JB RUU was used.
the question is - is there any other way to downgrade the hboot? and which hboot version do i need?
thanks!
Yossi
You should follow these instructions for getting s-off on your phone then.
It's way more comfortable and can easily be undone than the method you linked to.
Before we had s-off I downgraded a couple of times by bricking/unbricking my device. I was successful, even after the JB OTA with super-cid, maybe I was just one of the lucky ones. Idk.
If you decide for bricking/unbricking, the downgraded bootloader version on your S4 (you're shure about that?) should not be higher but 1.06 or 1.09. Else it's useless.

I can second that. I've downgraded and sent s off. S off wasn't as scary as I thought. It was actually easier than downgrading.
Good luck.

You should do a search on s-off. It switches off the security flag on the phone and simply said it allows you to flash whatever you want on your phone to any partition on your phone. Bootloader version will be of no importance anymore as it simply overrides it...
Downgrading your bootloader is a complicated process, transferring a new bootloader in very little chunks on your phone via the integrated modem using linux. All clear so far?!
Compared to all that, facepalm s-off is really easy... and much more efficient. Downgrading bootloader was/is a pain in the ass. I'm glad this is depracted by the s-off.
thanks all!
i know about S-OFFing from my old desire, but thanks for your explanation.
i guess i should try running the RUU again before.
Was on the Desire before the One S. :good:
Jep - RUU is pretty good to go. Just keep away from the TMO US JB OTA. This one might make it impossible to s-off your phone, as it might write protect the partition for s-cid.
so.. i followed the instructions - rooted my phone, changed to supercid and all..
but the S-OFF failed :\ i followed the instructions but when i rebooted to fastoot it's still "VLE PVT SHIP S-ON"
should i try to do that again? isn't it risky?
Please be more specific - what were you doing when what failed?
Else: repeat it until it works!
everything worked - i have a rooted phone with super-cid.
i followed the instructions and it seems like everything went according to the instructions. but it wasn't successful since i still see "S-ON" on fastboot.
are you sure i can do this again?
Very shure. I had some issues as well with my data connection and had to repeat that a couple of times.

Click to collapse
At step 5 you MUST get the error 'remote 92 supercid' and not 'remote 99 unknown'.
If you get 99, the first thing to try is just power down completely, wait a few seconds, boot back into fastboot and try again. If that doesn't fix it, I don't know really but read around the facepalm thread, search for '99'.
thanks!
meanwhile i've read a lot and tried again - the problem is "error 99" and not 92..
i'm trying to fix it..
