It is now working for me.

Just use a FAT32 formatted disk.
I don't think our phone will be able to give enough current to supply power to a external portable hard disk
From my CM10 powered galaxy R
The led indicator on the hardisk blinks while connecting.

ntfs disk is not supported through otg. Use fat formatted disks only.
Thnx!

Well, USB OTG is a feature to enable your phone to access USB devices such as flash disk, mouse.
To use it you will need a USB OTG Cable a short microUSB to USB female.. Attach your USB there,,
If it still not work some devices might require externally powered OTG..
I'd connected my pen drive with moto g and there is no notification.... How can I externally power my pen drive?

I'm not in kit kat version.. Is it mandatory for OTG function?...
Actually OTG was broken in KK but in JB it was working. But they have fixed it now in 4.4.2 as i read.

put the card into your pc with an adapter (if needed) and use this windows tool to check the card for errors, corruption, bad sectors, and if it is fake (which usually means it is junk).
I try to format it by usb cable through connect it to mobile phone and its success , and it's wipe all data but after restart the phone all files will return ....why
