hey everyone. i just grabbed a bnib one s off of craigslist that has been locked to a different carrier then i use. when i paid a website for the unlock code from the imei they said they couldnt do it and refunded my money. when i asked why they said the code hadnt been posted by the manufacturer and that i should wait a few weeks. when i googled this i found something that said manufacturers dont usually produce unlock codes until phones have been on the market for 3 weeks.
seeing as how the one s has been out for months, could this mean the actual phone needs to have been released for over 3 weeks?
big thanks to ferraripassion at www.htccode.com, he was able to get my unlock code when 3 other websites failed. the code was also emailed to me almost immediately. hes much faster, and has much better service then the other websites i tried. if anyone ever needs unlock codes, or is having trouble finding theirs either pm him, or visit his website. his site also has an imei checker so you can verify he has your code before you bother paying and dealing with refunds like the other sites.

Have you taken a look at the thread SIM Unlock for FREE
yes ive read that. my problem with that is:
i recently bought a bnib one s that was unlocked, it worked fine for a few weeks then got stuck in a bootloop without being modified or rooted. i could not enter the recovery and factory reset didnt work. i unlocked the bootloader and attempted to install an aftermarket recovery and it also wouldnt load. installing a ruu also wouldnt fix the problem. when i tried to get it warrantied htc wouldnt cover it because i unlocked the bootloader.
now that ive bought my 2nd one s, im going to use it for a month or 2 before i bother unlocking the bootloader. hopefully a 1 or 2 month grace period will be enough to weed out any potential defects.
i tried another unlocking site htcsimunlock.com, they also couldnt find the code, however they have access to htcs company database and said they have a 99 percent change of unlocking it for an extra 15 bucks. im gonna give them a try.

Oh yeah, you can root the phone without unlocking the bootloader using this tool.
https://dl.dropbox.com/s/koi38l3uve546rs/Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v17.zip?dl=1
Turn on USB debugging on your phone and run the script on your computer.
Press 1 for normal
Then on your phone press "restore my phone"
Then wait for it to finish.
After that use the unlocking guide.
That will keep your warranty intact since HTC will have no trace of your phone on their servers.
thats awesome! when was that released? i was hoping thered be a way to get around unlocking the bootloader.
is it possible to load custom roms or change cid with that or do you still need to unlock the bootloader for that?
deep search couldnt find my unlock code either, looks like ill try your method.

It came out sometime in September it just no one really knows about it around here (One S forums). I think you can change CID without unlocking the bootloader but I'm not sure. I know how to unlock the bootloader without using HTC dev also but I need to test a little more.
for some reason the rooting program isnt working. ive tried running it from cmd with admin rights, click 1, click restore my data on phone, it restarts for a few min script says its complete then it restarts and i dont have root. ive tried it 3 times now i dont know if im doing something wrong or what?
phone is in debug mode with allow 3rd party apps.
i also just noticed there is an error report ready on the phone. any ideas?

Strange I tried it today myself. I actually ran a RUU then the first thing I did was try it and it worked just fine. It added the app Super SU to my phone. That's root. Then right after I did it i checkd in adb shell and it dropped down to root no problem. My bootloader was still locked too.

Check your app drawer for Super SU? I don't think it's hboot specific at all but what are you guys on?

From what I understand the way you get root is the script exploits a timed event in the adb backup/restore process. So maybe try it a couple times.

My script looked exactly like that. The phone rebooted twice and it was done. If your used to seeing the "Super User" app and your looking for that it won't be there this uses the "Super SU" app. They do the same thing.

i wouldnt say im exactly competent but i know a bit lol. ive flashed different roms on my tf101 i bought used that was already unlocked, and i am a bit familiar with looking threw scripts and running commands from using linux but ive never actually rooted a phone. but yeah this seems like a fairly basic process, i doubt there is much i could be doing wrong here.
super su is not installed, and has not installed in any of the attempts that i have noticed.
my phone is locked on fido in canada. maybe this has something to do with it?
do you remember if your phone popped up with the htc error report when it was all done? maybe there is some kind of programming from fido interfering with the script and causing the phone to reboot?
also when the phone reboots the first time and it tries to copy everything. mine doesnt completely load the home screen. my background loads but there are no apps on the screen and the launcher bar at the bottom is missing. i can however pull down the top menu and load into settings.
on a side note, have you seen this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1913729 any idea if it would work with the one s?
i appreciate your help. theres probably not much you can help with but its nice to get some input from someone who knows more about this stuff. i posted on the forum page listing my problem so hopefully the developer of the script can figure something out.
hey l3ft3r1s were those errors posted in the script window or is there a log file that is exported somewhere? mine doesnt report any errors in the script window.

That won't be an option for anyone that hasn't downgraded their hboot though. I thought I was pretty sure that I had all this wrapped up and just needed to write instructions.
Do you guys have the HTC drivers installed? I'm sure I'll be able to figure it all out it just might take another day or two.

Your carrier wouldn't matter. But it sounds like it created a problem with your stock ROM did I read that right? Also, it's my experience that the error report only shows up if you have the "security warning" flag in hboot and you are using a stock rom.
We can't depend on the Sprint HTC phone stuff that much. They have a SD card slot and we don't if you'd like to look else where then you want to look at the ATT HTC One X stuff. They use a modified version of the root exploit for their phone. I'm guessing that it worked for me becuase I had a lower hboot. I didn't think that would be an issue but it just might. I was going to test it tomorrow since if something goes wrong I know how to fix it. So you might want to hold off. But if you'd like I'll post the link.
If you guys move forward then you might get stuck having to unlock via HTC dev to restore. Which kinda defeats the point of trying all this. You might want to hold off another day or two.
yeah i have the drivers installed.
i dont really have an option at the moment, im not gonna unlock the bootloader just yet so ill go without . if you can figure it out thatd be wicked. i have a link to my ruu if you want to try it...

I think so. How do I confirm this? Either way I don't think this should be the problem, since I get a return to adb devices.
By the way, do all RUUs need downgraded hboot?

Easiest way is to just hit the button in the all in one toolkit. Not all RUU's need to downgrade the hboot. You can use an RUU that has a higher hboot (as long as your CID is compatable). So you can always use a RUU to upgrade but not to downgrade.

This has been observed in at least one post, buried deep within another thread, but I thought it is important enough to have its own thread.
The latest JH7 OTA update seems to remove the file containing the unlock code for the Captivate. I unlocked my phone a couple of weeks ago, and after receiving the upgrade I verified that the phone is still unlocked. However, the SGS Unlock app no longer finds the code. Presumably, other PC/Mac-basede unlock techniques will be affected, as they look for the unlock code in the same file.
Anybody else can confirm this? In a word (two, really), what now? I was about to buy another Captivate for my wife, but the only reason she was willing to get it instead of the iPhone 4 was the possibility to unlock it (we travel to Europe twice a year).
If I manually peek at the bml3 or nv_data files, I still see my unlock code after JH7. I haven't used any apps to unlock, but it sounds like they just need an update if they are failing.
Well, if you bought the phone today, it wouldn't have the JH7 update, I would presume. So, you can run the unlocker to get the code. It sounds like, though I cannot confirm because the update failed on my phone, that it just deletes a file with a number in it. If that's the case, it shouldn't be able to undo any existing unlocks, and there's no time limit once you have the code.
Then you better buy one now and extract the unlock code before you upgrade. It typically takes AT&T a few months to sell phones with new firmware.
Even though new firm ware makes current unlock method useless, it won't chang your unlock code.

Ok, so maybe the SGS unlock app fails but could be fixed in the future, or perhaps one of the other methods still works...

Yup. That may be what is breaking the apps... I don't remember it needing it before to access /efs/nv_data.bin. I can read it after su though.
edit: If you want to try and get it manually, the following grep works for me, but I'm not exactly sure if it work on others...
su
busybox grep -E "^[0-9]{8}$" /efs/nv_data.bin
You should see 2 identical sets of numbers.

OK, so this is very good news.
To clarify (here's the noob asking...): rooting does *not* affect your ability to get the update, right? If all rooting does is install su & friends (and uninstall removes them), there should be no adverse consequences at all, especially if you unroot prior to getting the update. I'm just worried about the reports of updates failing (everything went smoothly for me, but I'm 100% stock and not rooted). Thanks!

I am rooted and the install went fine for me. I had not done any of the lag fixes, overclocking, or flashing custom ROMs though.
Same. Rooted before the update. It even stayed rooted after the update.
If the grep above doesn't work btw, look here for how to manually copy the files to your computer, and view the code using a hex editor: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761045 . Just remember you need to use "su" first now. Or just wait... One of the devs will probably update their app soon enough.
Ok, thanks! This helps a lot.

It could just that the servers are currently overloaded... take a look at the thread on successful updates; although there are still only a few reports, phones that did not have a lagfix at the time of the update did OK, and rooting does not seem to matter. In any case, it's not like your update failed: you haven't even downloaded it yet.

That makes sense, because the JH7 update changed the *permissions* of the nv_data file. So, even if you reflash the stock ROM, the permissions on that file stay the same.
BTW, I suppose this means that one way to fix this would be to create a very simple update.zip that changes the permissions on that particular file. Although, if you go down that route, you might as well root your phone, I guess!

Firstly i apologise if this is in the wrong section i couldnt find a forum specifically for the Droid RAZR MAXX HD.
I'm living in the UK and i've just purchased one of these off ebay, it will be arriving in the next few days. I was wondering how do i go about unlocking this, rooting it, and installing roms. Do i follow the same process as the RAZR HD ?

Hi
I got one from the US too and am having diffculties with it. I put a Vodafone sim in , it worked for a month or so and then stopped. Vodafone were able to unlock the sim but everytime they did so it would lock again after about 10mins. In the end I swapped to "3" and that worked for calls but no data and I couldn't send messages, only receive them.
I put CM10.1 on instead of stock and the same happened, no data, no sending messages.
I suspect the problem lies with the CDMA and GSM, but I'm not techy enough to re-flash with CDMA workshop. There is soemone on ebay.com (USA) who will re-flash remotely to Cricket or Pageplus, but he reckons it won't work with the UK networks.
I'd be interested to find out how you get on, hopefully you'll have better luck than me.
As an aside if anyone can give me advice on how to get my phone working, I'd really appreciate it!

For what it's worth, I have the same phone, and I'm in the UK.
I originally was using the stock 4.1.2 ROM for a long time, with root exploit, and titanium backup to freeze all the bloatware, and everything worked.
I recently managed used the motopocalypse exploit to unlock the bootloader, then installed a recovery, and flashed a new ROM (the latest build of SlimBean).
Things are still OK.. kind of. It always shows the signal strength as being -120dBm, even though the net speeds are fast (browsing works, I can download from play store, that's all OK). Calls work fine.
But, I found the fly in the ointment for real - I cannot send SMS messages at all. I tried everything. I even went to the EE store right now, and got a new microSIM just for the hell of it. Nope. I can receive them.
I changed the SMSC string in *#*#4636#*#* to the number for my network (T-Mobile UK), and it didn't help for crap. I downloaded GoSMS because it allows you to specify the number in the program - nope, nothing changed, doesn't work.
The stock ROM however did work fine, I could send SMS OK.
If anyone has a clue at all as to what to do, I'd love to hear it.

Well mine has finally arrived from the US. I'm also running a vodafone pay as you go sim, its working so far although i did have to enter the apn manually to get data working. No immediate problems just some minor annoyances such as the verizon messages popping up everytime i start an app. I'll let you know if anything changes.
FYI i just installed an update yesterday as it popped up as a notification - is this going to cause me problems ?

I hope not, but my problems seemed to start after doing the update.
I'm on a monthly contract maybe a PAYG will behave differantly, -- Sorry I can't give you a more positive answer!
I'd be interested to hear how you get on, what firmware version works and whether you root it or not.
Otherwise its a cracking phone, I use an HTC One and if I could get the XT926 to work correctly, I wouldn't hesitate on swapping over.
Good luck,

I'm attempting to root it now but so far its not having it.
I think installing the update was a mistake as it seems the bootloader cant be unlocked now which means i'm stuck with android 4.1 .
Not the end of the world i guess, the main reason i got the maxx hd was the battery life so as long as it keeps on working i should be happy with it.
Will keep you updated.
For what it's worth, in the end I flashed back to 4.1.2, but this time not exactly stock, but a stock based ROM - Nexesque 3.5. Now I can actually reply to people again!

Just had another thought, my problem might have started after rooting it and not after getting the upgrade.
I'm not much of a techy so take what I say with a pinch of salt but
If it works on the current settings, I'd be inclined to leave it until you get confirmation that the upgrade works in the UK (on a UK network), if like me you simply have to upgrade, then perhaps hold off rooting it until you know it works properly.
Hopefully someone will come along, tell me I'm talking out of my a**e and provide you with something a bit more definite that we all may benefit from!
So far only a previous poster- halokitty- has come forward with a XT926 on a UK contract and he has the same problem as me, other replies seem to be from people who have a US contract and use it in the UK while roaming, and it seems to work perfectly for them.
If somebodies out there who lives in the UK, uses an XT926 on a UK contract, and it works perfectly I'd be really grateful if they could post details, firmware, apn's etc etc

Just read your message after posting mine,
Have you got it working? Data and SMS (send and receive). Is it working properly??
Which method did you use for root ? Mine just keeps saying exploit failed and i've tried 3 root tools so far found on xda.
As much as i would like to stay unrooted the verizon bloatware is starting to test my patience. Literally every app i open brings up a preparing for use message so i need to freeze the verizon apps when i do get root...if i get root.
I cant see how root could affect the network lock so i would almost certainly say something else is to blame. I guess we'll find out if i get root working .
Giving up on root for now as none of the current tools will work for me. I believe its something to do with the update i installed.

Thats what i thought as i'm on the 9.18.** update which is presumably the latest OTA.
I havent been able to downgrade to 9.16.** so i guess its now a matter of waiting for another exploit to be found.
I just wish id been around a computer yesterday to try all this as knowing what i now know i never would have installed that update.

Sorry I'm out of my depth now, can you flash it back using RSD Lite or are you stuck with it?
Just to keep you updated I've flashed Nexesque 3.5, I had to manually enter the APN's from the 3 website, installed SMS Pro, in settings (SMS Pro) input the SMSC number, again from 3 website and now it all seems to work.
Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for a fix to come along.

As far as i can tell i'm stuck with it now. Its one of the few updates i've encountered which is irreversible and i can say goodbye to unlocking the bootloader as a result.
I'll give Nexesque a try as soon as i get rooted, presuming it doesnt need an unlocked bootloader.
Glad to hear you got yours working.

Yeah, it works OK. Then again, I used to have the totally stock Verizon ROM working fine too. I do have an unlocked bootloader, though, even though it's XT926, I bought my RAZR MAXX HD before the exploit closing OTA.
SMS works, data is fine.
My SIM set up the APNs without me having to, and the SMSC was also set without me having to.
T-Mobile UK for what it's worth.
I recommend freezing (I use titanium backup) com.motorola.dataroaming - it's the crap that changes the normal Android checkbox in "Mobile network settings > Data roaming" to something US specific. By all means freeze other Verizon related things too.
Another thing for UK users, if you flashed Nexesque 3.5, you'll also want to flash this: http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_id=15250 (you need to sign into droidrzr) which removes a very irritating message about ciphering that pops up when you are connected to your network.
Ok so my first M8 died so I had to get another one. This one came with 1.55.605.2 out of the box. Baseband 0.89.20.0321. The issue I am having is that every time I try and s-off it just sits there adding dashes at the bottom after I type yes and the message saying if Firewater hangs for more than 2 minutes...I have searched and haven't been able to find a solution. I did see where someone said to export the firewater file from his dropbox into the local folder and in adb start at the adb shell step. Did that or so I thought and that didn't work either. Maybe I'm not extracting the file as all I'm doing is downloading it and then copying and pasting. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I apologize if this has been asked before. I searched as much as I could and could not find a definitive answer. Thanks to everyone on XDA.

Yup. I enter adb devices and it recognizes the device. Everything seems to work fine until the last step after I type in Yes. Then it just sits there. It gives me the message "if firewater hangs for more than 2 minutes, press and hold power for 60 seconds" 3 times..Then just dashes and doesn't do anything else. Really confused on this one.

Hi everyone,
I am new to android mods. I just bought a used vzw M8 running 4.4.4. I unlocked and got S off using sunshine. Rooted with WS2, and verified. Installed SuperSU. Stock otherwise. I have installed the SDK on my laptop. I can't get any devices to show up when i use the adb devices command.
I am trying to figure out how to disable the OTA for Lollipop. Does anyone know if the OTA will re-lock or bypass my root? Can you help me disable if it is an issue?
Eventually, I'd like to go to a different (cleaned up) ROM and 5.X, but i need to make sure the evil red monster doesn't mess up my work first. I have spent several hours searching the forums, and have made some progress. If there are any detailed posts to point me to, I'd appreciate any and all help.
Thank you,
Dustin
Did you install the HTC drivers? If not install HTC sync manager (I think that's the name) and it'll install them for u then u can uninstall HTC sync manager and you should get adb to recognize your device. Ota will not relock your device. It will take off root tho. But you can just flash custom recovery and flash su in there. I'd suggest since your s off to flash dottats s off 5.0.1 ruu over in the development section once you get adb working. It is also pre rooted and will get up and running on lollipop.

Check this thread out for blocking the OTA http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/help/block-ota-updates-t2871520 It is also my understanding that just being rooted will cause the OTA to fail. I may be wrong about that, however.

I did install the drivers exactly the way you suggest. My computer recognizes the phone as a drive. I just can't get it to show up on ADB. Thank you for the suggestion on the ruu. I may just let the OTA come though today to get rid of the message. Then, run the ruu when I figure this out more.

Thank you, dottat. I have installed and re-installed the driver. My computer can see my phone, and pull it up as a disk drive. I can open the SDK and ADB. In the CMD window, when I type "adb devices", it starts the daemon successfully. Then, under list of devices, it is blank. Any ideas? Could i have downloaded the wrong SDK/ADB package and need to get yours? I'm really green with this software and Linux in general, so I may be missing something. I'm hoping I can get comms worked out and load your RUU file soon. Can I go ahead and take the 5.0 OTA without worry? I have root, s off, and BL unlock. SuperSU fails to update.

What Android version you running?
On 4.4.3 and over sunshine will s off and unlock bootloader together, but its a 50/50 chance. I personally used firewater and weaksauce but I was on 4.4.2 when I did it but VZW closed that exploit in 4.4.3.

guys i want to root my phone on the fast and very simple way possible.
found this root method on https://autoroot.chainfire.eu
this is the link for the root method https://download.chainfire.eu/982/C...Auto-Root-heroqltetmo-heroqltetmo-smg930t.zip
i did not tryed it my self yet. but if theres a user that rooted their phone that way, let me know.
bump
I don't think this will work unless we get our Bootloader unlocked (which hasn't been done yet as far as i know)
UNLOCK BOOTLOADERS
If you have locked bootloaders, flashing one of these will probably brick your device - with the exception of Nexus devices, which will usually automatically "OEM unlock" and wipe your data !
this is kind of lame.... why chainfire release a auto root if the thevice have bootloader locked down? and onlockable?
Confused myself
I want to say root is possible, there are tons of sites with instructions: https://www.google.com/search?q=SM-...i57j0j69i60.9343j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Of course, XDA doesn't seem to have a specific G930T thread for rooting with instructions, then see threads like this today. I was all set to give it a try, but unsure if should proceed...
Did find this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s7/help/sm-g930t-root-doesnt-void-warranty-t3415936
EDIT: so the one linked in original comment was the bleeding edge root process and seems like had a really high failure rate. Most current I've seen is: http://lifeatsamsung.com/root-t-mobile-galaxy-s7-sm-g930t-2/
Seems a little more clean cut and easy. I'll edit again if I find a newer solution or at least commentary on success/fail
In comments OP posts:
Yes I am planning to make a video tutorial.

So the solution and all the fixes, etc is right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039
Worked for me, no problem. Even installed the debloated, deox'd ROM. Unfortunately after root you will need to follow rest of guide, otherwise you will see some lag issues.
On the other side of it, phone is great, fast, if not faster than before, and got root. Let me know if you would like some screenshots proving a TMO phone is rootable or if can answer any questions

I would like to see some screens that show it is rooted, yes. I am about to purchase tomorrow and would like everything in place before I do.
Thanks

So what does this mean in layman's terms. Can I root the device safely with full functionality or not? Are there plans to get a rooted bootloader? And what does this mean because I thought the TMO version had a qualcom processor...

This means that the only rooting method right now isn't as stable as it would be if it had a unlocked bootloader the root right now will cause some issues but they can easily be fix from some of the steps after rooting guides that are in the xda forums and yes it using a Qualcomm processor Witch is pretty much the snapdragon and there hasn't been any luck this past year of getting the bootloader unlocked for full and smooth rooting I'm really ****ty at explaining sorry if your still lost
The Chainfire method he released does NOT work. I'm not sure why he released it...maybe he knows of a future bootloader unlock that we don't know about.
@troby86 I see you have yours rooted. How did you accomplish this?

I used the engineering boot image to do it. There is a post in this forum that has a link to a guide to do it.
Thank you. Lots to look through.

@troby86 OK, bought my S7 today. Trying Max Lee's root method. I can't get SU to inject using adb command. I have retried numerous times to include reflashing and system reset. Any thoughts?

@KillerClaw321 I am at the machine now and have tried running CMD in admin mode. Still no joy. What are the beat adb drivers to use for AMD machine? Maybe the drivers are the problem? What else can I try? I am on PK1 as the phone is new from the store yesterday and a fresh shipment to them the day before.
I also see a DM verification verify failed dialogue at the bottom when i try the factory reset. No DRK
