If I upgrade my P5113 to JB... - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When the official JB update comes out for it, will it update to the official JB release? Just wondering. Can't seem to find the answer here, so thought I would ask you. Just bought the 5113 and want to update it to JB before I put anything on it or do anything...however I have seen that people say it is very slightly buggy (such as the weather widget not showing up) so I wanted to make sure that when the official release of JB comes out, I can still upgrade it. Thanks! :good:

What's the latest official firmware update on this device? Is it on ICS? Also, are there any 100% working Jelly Bean/CM10 roms?

Since you're in the US, you're not going to get the official ICS quite yet. Though, it will be very soon. Motorola says in Q3, which is rapidly coming to a close. Users in India have already gotten the OTA to ICS. So, not much longer for us here in the States.
Also, we have a CM10 ROM, but it's being fine tuned. There's still a few broken functions (look for the thread in the development section), but with the talents and hard work from our development team here for the A2, it'll get there, and be killer...

It would have been quicker to have a quick read of the forums, but anyway. Like Apex said, ICS OTA is on it's way to the US, India has it, and we have the leak and the official OTA, you can't go back to GB (yet?) if you flash the final OTA version of ICS, so we are all being urged NOT to flash the OTA yet and to only use the leak until further notice, there are a few roms but the bootloader is LOCKED. I can't tell you much about the device besides specs and things I've read as mine is coming in about 12 hours . But do yourself a favor and have a peek around the forums, specifically the development forums.

Note about CM10, the camera isn't working at all yet, hopefully it gets fixed soon, there are some other issues with it as well and it's very much a WIP

Official U.S. ICS ROM released yet?

As the title says, just wondering if the official US rom has been released yet OTA or otherwise. I think (pretty sure) I'm running the U.K. version right now and I only have 1 minor problem which is the reminder to setup software updates doesn't work. Also, I'm thinking about giving this tablet to my GF for Christmas and getting the Galaxy Tab 7.7 for myself for the better screen.
Thanks for the help!
Bump?
If you're asking if Samsung issued an upgrade to ICS for the 7.0 Plus in the US, the answer is yes. AFAIK, it had to be installed using Kies.
I can confirm this, I just updated my tab yesterday via kies and it's now in ICS 4.04
OK cool. I'll flash back to stock and do an upgrade to the official
On a side note, I also followed the root instructions under the CWM 6.0 thread in development and it still works :good:

[Q] Why hasnt my s3 gotten jellybean yet??

Hello all, my question is very simple. I have an international samsung galaxy s3. And am confused because it hasnt gotten jellybean yet. And quite frankly, im kinda pissed as well. All my friends have jellybean on their s3's. I went to about phone and clicked software update but it says no update available. i have also plugged the phone into kies but kies also says "This is the latest firmware". Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
The rolling out of update takes some time to reach all devices...
And are your friends using custom roms? As custom roms on jb leaks have been out for quite some time...
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you, Man and Knife"
An advice for you. Root your phone and install a custom rom, there option for 4.2 already, stop to wait for Samsung oficial updates with a lot of bloatwares.

[Q] Picking up a refurb Xoom (Wifi) - how best to update, unlock, install ROM?

Hi all,
I am receiving a factory refurbished Wifi-only Xoom next week. I am guessing that it will be on 3.0, and I'd like to bring it up to the latest JB and install a custom rom (probably EOS 3 for the moment, then EOS 4 at the next MR).
What's the best procedure for this? Should I take OTA updates up to 4.1.2, then unlock, root and install a ROM? Or should I just unlock, root and flash a ROM from the start, i.e. skipping the OTA updates? Or does it not really matter?
Thanks in advance.

Not really answering your question, just an opinion .....
Why not just leave it on OTA 4.1.2? Unless you have a real need to unlock or some pressing need for 4.2. In my experience the difference between 4.1.2 and 4.2 is insignificant. EOS 3 is conceivably a back step on the OTA updates. Continually updating for updating's sake is fine if that is your hobby (and that is why you are here in these forums), but it might not achieve much. And you could replace a smooth stable 4.1.2 with a buggy and laggy 4.2 - for what?
If there is some app or function you need that requires root or a custom rom then that is a different story.
I am awaiting a refub MZ604 myself so I share you impulse, but I am taking a wait and see approach and giving it some thought.

Hey, thanks a lot for your advice. I wasn't so much counting on jumping ahead to 4.2 just yet, so I'm with you there.
Regarding a 4.1.1 ROM vs the 4.1.2 OTA, I had thought (just based on my personal experience with other Android devices, my Razr in particular) that a nice 4.1.1 ROM like EOS 3 would outperform stock, even a version that is one minor update ahead, since the ROM would (presumably) be optimized, free of bloatware, etc. Perhaps that's not a big issue with the Xoom?
Again, thanks. I'll probably take your advice and see how things go with 4.1.2 OTA for a while.
Interestingly, the refurbished Xoom came with 4.1.2 pre-loaded. I wasn't expecting that. Seems to be running fine.
Mine arrived today. It only took 11 days to cross the world. An MZ604 GED device. Came with 4.04 then promptly updated itself to 4.1.1 then a few minutes later it upgraded itself to 4.1.2. It is pure Android and runs fast and smoothly.
More than happy with this refurb - it looks brand new and 4.1.2 is new enough.

[Q] Installing Custom Rom over 4.3

So I was getting sick of running CM 10.2 on my Galaxy SIII so I decided to go back to Verizon stock 4.1.2 rom and then before reading up on the 4.3 OTA update, I stupidly just went through the update. I didn't know how much of a hassle this was going to be, but basically I was wondering if anyone has any information on how to get off of this standard rom and back into the world of custom roms. Because I really really dislike touchwiz and really just about everything to do with this OTA update that I've had to deal with for the past pretty much month now. Any information will be helpful on steps I can take to get off of this ROM or if any work is being done to make this phone rock as much as it did when I first bought it.

Saferoot and Safestrap only available option right now.
I may add that saferoot is to root your phone and safestrap is used to install TouchWiz custom rom only.
how to get a clean 4.4
I've done the same thing as well with a similar issue, is the consensus that there is no way to move from a stock 4.3 updated phone to a clean non-touchwiz 4.4 such as CM11 or similar? My phone is quite slow and laggy after this update especially the keyboard, so I'm looking to pare things down to speed it up.
