[Q] Recover data from P3100 - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was running CM10 nightly on my SGT2 P3100. 2 days back i flashed the new Official JB update without taking backup ( should have taken, learnt my lesson). After rebooting all the personal files were gone including photos and all. Is there anyway to recover those files? I am not able to plug in my tab as a mass storage device - only media storage and camera mode available in USB.
Someone please tell me how to proceed now? How to use tablet as mass storage device so i can run recovery software??

Anybody???

If your data was wiped during install, you have no recourse. This app should turn device into usb mass storage. I haven't used this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.zatta.USB_switch&hl=en as my rom supports usb, mtp, and ptp.

I had no problem connecting with stock rom..After flashing ics, everything started. I am not being able to mount even mass storage.Everytime i want to copy some files, i have to go into cwm recovery.
I have no problems on latest kang, connects via mtp as intended. Mass storage with on board non removable flash devices like the galaxy nexus is not possible anymore as they have redone the drive structure.

[Q] ICS USB mass storage not working

I have a problem with the USB mass storage in ICS build 4, for some reason when I connect my phone to the PC it just starts charging and doesn't give me the option of turning the mass storage on. Are there any alternative programs for using usb storage?

Maybe it's just a problem with ICS because it's still in its early Alpha stages. Just go back to CM7 or any Froyo ROM.

It worked in build 3, it's just strange that the option is gone in the newer build, and please if you have a concrete answer for my question please answer, I am aware of the possibilities but I want to use ICS.

If you want to use ICS than you will have to live with these bugs since it is only the fourth release. Anyway, the developers may have done something wrong with it but will probably be able to fix it with ease in the next release.
I highly recommend you to wait for the full version of ICS/CM9 as it is still incomplete!
If you want to use this rom then you have only option, get an adapter

Galaxy Note 10.1, USB Mass Storage Mode, Questions and Options please?

All -
Okay, USB Mass Storage mode, what about it?
My Galaxy Note 5.3 with ICS has it. My Galaxy S3 with ICS does not have it.
I've been Googling for hours, and getting nowhere. The Samsung website says the N8000 has "USB Mass Storage Mode". But two posters on XDA say that it does not.
What I like to do is keep my PC file directory synced to my Samsung device. On my old Galaxy Tab 7 Classic, I can just plug it in (USB Mass Storage Mode), and it mounts and works. I then use ROBOCOPY (Windows rsync wannabe) and it syncs up just fine, and very quickly. I've got it in a batch file, I just plug in, double-click the icon, and it goes.
On the S3, MTP mode, as everyone seems to already know, doesn't cut it at all. It can't detect dates or metadata, so it wants to re-copy everything, in very slow MTP mode. UGH!
Prior to the ICS update for my note 5.3, I just rooted and used Samba.
So my questions:
1. Can someone definitively confirm whether the GT-N8000 Galaxy Note 10.1 has true USB Mass Storage mode support, or not?
2. If not, do we think Samsung is going to add it, as they did with the Galaxy note 5.3?
3. If not, is Samba the right way to go here? Is there a better way?
4. I've heard that "Airdroid" might be good, but does it support syncing a la rsync or robocopy?
5. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to proceed?
Thank you all so much for your patience and guidance!
Glen

My Galaxy S2 has USB Mass Storage mode... and I'm very dissapointed that the Note 10.1 does not have USB Mass Storage mode. Why do they keep changing these file structures... its so inconsistent.
One of the reasons I jumped from Transformer Prime TF201 to the Note 10.1 is because I thought the file structure in the Note 10.1 is better sturctured, just like the S2.
Anyone has any work around this? I do not want to always remove my microSD card all the time.

In settings/developer options, select usb debugging. Then when you connect to pc you should get mass storage hookup
You just need the MTP drivers .........
On WinXP machines mostly You will have to download KIES , install it to get drivers installed but not run it, connect 10.1 via USB and voila You will have a folder showing "phone" and sdcard folder.
Now You can use the sdcard card as mass storage. Only when it comes to transfer of files not recognized by Android or the device it will ask You wether it should be copied , just click yes.
On most win7 pcs Sammy devices are recognized automatically as MTP ...........
Same issue here , and for windows 8 i can't get the right drivers for it , the pc can't recognize the device in case i installed last version of Samsung Kies
The Note 10.1 uses MTP like the S3. I used this -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711009 on my Note 10.1 and it lets me mount the external micro SD card when I plug it into my Windows 7 computer. You have to be rooted w/ busybox installed. It should work for the S3 also, since that is what it was made for.
Good luck!
go to settings...
I'm running ICS 4.0.4 on galaxy note which runs MTP mode by default.
Usb mass storage mode can be enabled from settings-> wireless and network (more) -> usb utilities... turn on mass storage
There u r... hope it helps
is there a mod for the note 10.1 for ums?
Bump for an old question -

If you are able to mount the internal sd as card in your pc then you should be able to do it, since it would be acting like any other hard drive
I dont think this is possible with stock firmware.. but if you are able to install an asop rom like CM then you might have option to do it by using some app like ums mass storage enabler or so..

Phone hangs up during file-copying

I am having a weird problem with my phone, it's Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100. When I try to copy a bit large file to my storage, the phone hangs up in the middle of the process.
I have been using Cyanogenmod for a long time, I never faced this problem. But it started appearing few months ago. I have also tried some other roms, they give me the same problem. I am giving a logcat, hope that helps
LOGCAT: http://tny.cz/888f73f7
(logcat given in tinypaste, you can enable 'fullscreen' and 'line numbers' to examine the log easily)
Days are passing, but no replies. Strange! Is the question too hard to understand?

conect phone as mass storage instead of MTP
Same thing happens both for USB Mass Storage and Media Storage. In Mass Storage mode phone hangs up and the screen blacks out, and in Media Storage mode phone disconnects and after sometimes may automatically connect again.

Oh. I thought you were talking about Android's format something like EXT4, anyways, the format is correct. It's FAT 32. I am going to check it in another PC and let you know if that's my phone or USB ports problem.

I am having the same problem. Currently on resurrection ROM, FAT32 SD card (without problems, did a chkdsk on it and works fine in Windows). I can start to copy MTP / mass storage mode, but after a while the phone freezes. I guess the rom is also CM based..

[Q] Accidently broke Mass storage mode? (ZTE V970)

I was trying to transfer some files from my phone, but Mass storage mode was giving me grief so I decided to try and activate MTP mode, and now I am somehow stuck on it. if I try to uncheck the MTP mode it automatically checks itself back on. I can check PTP mode instead of MTP but then I am faced with the same issue.
to make matters worse, the files I actually wanted transferred aren't supported in PTP is seems, the folder that was contained them looks empty from the PC (still see them from the file explorer on the phone).
how do I bring back the Mass storage option without resorting to doing a full on factory reset and losing the data?
Sorry for posting in the general section, couldn't find the section specific to my model.
Using ZTE V970 running 4.1.2 Android
MIUI version 3.2.22
What's wrong with MTP? I personally prefer it over USB Mass storage. Probably a glitch of MIUI. You could try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, but other than that, not really sure. Since you are rooted, you could try this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rafoid.multimountsdcard.widget.free
to see if you can force it to work.
