[Q] Nokia Exclusive Apps on Dev Unlocked HTC 8X? - Windows Phone 8x by HTC

I'm sure it's a long shot, but has anyone managed to access Nokia device-specific apps in the marketplace from the 8X? Similar to what is described in this thread:

yep. still interop issues. until we solve those, no luck with much. sure would like to see something released, what with htc locations sucking, being expensive, and mia on wp8. with the new engineering info that was dumped hopefully we can see something before TOO long, but i'd expect it to be a while.

or maybe never.... they already announced it in June of last year and they said MAYBE.... and also manufacturers choice, not ours.... So if HTC would like it we already would have it on our phones..... I hope I'm wrong...

Froyo 2.2 released by AT&T finally?

that page has been there for some time, it is now gone
I couldn't find any other info on it - But being that the post was just made this morning, I'm still excited...
saw this too, but the page it linked to (which is pulled now btw) was actually a direct copy/paste of the 2.2 update for the Vibrant when I saw it last night. The cached version here still has all the tmobile references.

I have to put it in debugging mode to get Kies Mini to see it. I have no idea what impact that may have on actually upgrading though. I'm stock Eclair BTW.

Towards the bottom in they have mobitv renamed to t-mobile tv.
Maybe they realized the error and pulled it.
Already discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=956155
LOL. Samsung's/AT&T's never ending ineptitude provides quite a bit of comic relief. I mean...really, how hard is it to push an update? I remember getting OTA updates on my G1 without issue. Has nothing been learned since then?

I don't know how I missed that? Thanks though.
It had this sentence at the bottom too:
* What are risks for performing the upgrade?
o This upgrade has been thoroughly tested by Samsung and AT&T to be compatible with Captivate devices running previous versions of the released software. Customers who are running unsupported operating systems (e.g. those that are rooted or have not been received from T-Mobile and Samsung) should move forward at their own risk.

LOL, FIND ALL "T-Mobile" REPLACE WITH "AT&T" it's that easy.... or one would think....
I checked Kies Mini and nothing. Blah!
Ehh ...
The probability of Samsung/AT&T releasing something better than what you can find here at XDA is extremely low. The devs here at XDA are probably more familiar with the phone than Samsung or AT&T anyway, as they have actually been working with it these past few months.
I'm actually a bit surprised that there isn't an XDA branded phone by now.

The One X is getting a remapping options in their new update from HTC

Updated article here
It's coming to the rest of the One series yay. Now HTC give us S-off

you've installed an unreleased OS update and are wondering why apps don't work with it yet...
theres any number of reasons it might not work at this point, lets wait until an official update is released, (zune!) and see if they update the app.
as for the Focus, assuming its unlocked we can make it look like any device / version we can think of

The update is officially out, if you want to install it through nokia care. Nokia representatives confirmed, but i can't be bother to find the posts.
Any new lumia 7.5 model will get the 7.8 update out of the box. Existing ones can get it though care if they don't want to wait. They are currently working on a way of updating existing phones WITHOUT wiping all data.
So, bluetooth share is an issue right now, as many others reported (even in the marketplace comments).

7.8 has not been officially released by anyone regardless of where it is available
it would be most unfortunate that this turned in to a situation similar to when Mango was released, in that folk updated then couldn't get the official update because they didn't release the update from beta updates... meaning they had to wipe the device anyway.
everyone just needs some patience around 7.8, it will be out when MS and the networks say it is, supporting apps will be fixed to work with it when they too get fixed...

Huawei removing bootloader unlock codes for all huawei and honor devices

Such sad news, I literally got my device today!
The problem for me is that even though I could unlock my device now, the pull of users and developers to this device is going to plummet to zero on xda , there won't be any (or very few) ROM's, adopters will avoid the device... It's a horrible move from huawei who have a sponsor partnership with xda?? Xda have said they're going to fight it but my guess is huawei may look at their wallet rather than their hearts and stick to their guns.
By all accounts it's "to provide a better service". ???
I have a cooling off period for another 13 days.
If things don't change in a week I'm sending this wonderful opportunity phone back.
Never again
https://www.xda-developers.com/huawei-stop-providing-bootloader-unlock-codes/
Edit: all that being said, I like this phone too much, even runs ppsspp and dolphin the same as the onelus 5 did, I've unlocked the bootloader, installed twrp and rooted and now it's running perfectly.
Going to give it a chance.

In the same boat mate, received the phone on Wednesday, got the bootloader unlock code sitting in my email index waiting to be used....and now I see this.
In two minds about the whole thing, on one hand love the phone it seems pretty damn great to me, only want to root for 2 issues (not fault of phone, just personal preference) but on the other hand, lack of ability to unlock bootloader will kill the community here. Do I keep it, unlock and just roll with it, or do I send it back and get something else (Galaxy Note or S9+ probably, community there aint dead lol)?
Have to have a good think about it over the weekend I think.

Avoid the galaxy unless you like baggage and more rules, if I was to buy another phone it would be the HTC 12, no doubt about it.
Personally I've used the unlock code twrp installed and I'm rooted.
Phones a beast, I personally think Huawei will decide against their decision, by all accounts HTC did the same and look what happened to them
Currently looking at debranding from the L09 to the L29 as updates are more timely. Either that or wait for some ROMs to drop.
I'm keeping it now, it's swayed me.
Although I'd I could get the HTC I'd do it in a heartbeat, epic development on XDA.

Since the phone is treble enabled we can use GSI. So theres no "real" need to have an active development community dedicated for this phone only.

You don't necessarily need to convert from L09 to L29 to get faster updates, you just need to change region from 782 to 432. The L09 & L29 firmwares are interchangeable and are released together but it's UK specific updates that are lagging behind.
Saying that, I don't think there's a way to convert to 432 without being converted to L29 in the process anyway lol

Keep hold of the bootloader unlock code you got as if they go ahead with removing the service, they're likely to release updates in the future that will relock unlocked bootloaders on install. You should be able to re-unlock with the same code but it's a pain as an update won't wipe data but then having to re-unlock will ?

yup. some people may not LIKE that you can't root a phone, but the actual percentage of those that won't actually buy the phone for this reason is minuscule.
otherwise, the first time a phone manufacturer sees their sales actually explode after releasing unlooked bootloaders, they'd always unlock it, but that's simply not the case
Ok I think you're being quite short sighted here, allow me to explain a little.
People who root their phones, usually the same ones who mod and develop ROMs and love a tinker, generally speaking the techie in the family, the one who your family tends to turn to when they have an upgrade come around or need something fixing.
Those very same people are more than likely to recommend a phone which has the ability to root, bootloader unlock and modify than they are one which has a completely locked down eco system.
You can say what you like, you can say I'm full of it, but I've seen how people react to a company changing its principles in regards to bootloader unlocking, HTC did this once, they then reversed their decision after seeing an immediate decline in sales, not solely due to the device either, it was the people's influence which caused it, then after two not so great phones later, they were a struggling company, and make no mistake, HTC was a colossal company which was on the up and up, bare in mind they made a lot of what android is today.
Huawei are making the exact same mistake because they overlooked how important that 1% is and the influence that they have over the vast majority of other users who value their opinion and will commit to a purchase on their say so.
It doesn't matter if you believe me, it's just an observation I've witnessed when HTC made the same decision.
Sure they'll continue, they make other components as well as phones, in all fairness they could stop selling phones and still survive.
But for XDA, for development, for what we know today of Huawei devices? Lol If you think it's quiet here on the p20 pro forum, wait til you see the ghost town of a thread there will be for the p30 and pro, I doubt there will be a single ROM, no Dev would be dumb enough to buy it.
**** I am receiving my phone in 5 days...
Picked up a code just in case anyone I sell it to is interested. Probably won't use it myself.
Huawei is targeting the Apple clientele. They couldn‘t care less about bootloader unlocking. Look at their advertising, their USP is design, camera, beautiful visuals. They don‘t sell to the tech nerd who wants to flash different software.

Damn.
You may still be able to do something , there was a guide on the above link posted by a user which can unlock the bootloader by all accounts.
This phone is quite a beast and there could and should be another way in the future.
Plus Huawei will probably reverse their decision, that's not confirmed by any means but I think they will.
Funky Huawei ( which is normally not what I'd recommend) will probably see a lot more action now that official unlocks are gone too.
Don't worry too much, if it's still possible someone will find out.

I'm shocked. I received my phone today and wanted to root it and now I read this.
Maybe you guys can help me understand a few things because I haven't tampered with any Android device since 2014.
- will I be fine with the standard pre-installed EMUI or am I missing some really cool and better custom OS when I can't unlock and root my device?
- I've used Xposed, AFWall+, TWRP and XPrivacy on my old phone - are there similar and equally safe tools for unrooted devices?
- How can I make backups without TWRP?
- are there any known workaround procedures known that would let me unlock the bootloader without that code from Huawei? Is it likely that there will be one?
Thanks

Maybe you guys can help me understand a few things because I haven't tampered with any Android device since 2014.
- will I be fine with the standard pre-installed EMUI or am I missing some really cool and better custom OS when I can't unlock and root my device?
- I've used Xposed, AFWall+, TWRP and XPrivacy on my old phone - are there similar and equally safe tools for unrooted devices?
- How can I make backups without TWRP?
- are there any known workaround procedures known that would let me unlock the bootloader without that code from Huawei? Is it likely that there will be one?
Thanks

How? The link https://emui.huawei.com/en/unlock_detail is down
can't find https://www.emui.com/en/unlock_index either
EDIT: Tried everything. There are too many websites which seems unprofessional and half of them show certificate errors. Finally I wrote them a complaint about this via Mail and provided all the data like IMEI etc

Are there any other options for getting an unlock code at this point? I was thinking about purchasing a P20 Pro but may not if I can't unlock the bootloader.

Same question here. I have my Twilight P20 Pro lying here, unused since release in fact (so way past the return window) and meant to give it to my wife, but only with Root Tools (Adaway, YT Vanced etc.)
I missed the window since I was traveling and support won't help me.
I get it, my fault for not doing it in time but what now? I wouldn't mind paying for it, as the only other option appears to be selling the device at a huge loss (I paid full retail) and finding a different phone altogether.
