[Q] com.sec.sprextension.phoneinfo.deviceAdminPhoneInf oReciever - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, sooo I am new to the forum..not the tech savviest-BUT I have some questions about my new galaxy S3.
I got my phone Galaxy S3 from spring not too long ago. 1 month in dropped it in its face-completely shattered.-thankfully I had insurance.
NOW.. When I got the new phone it came back with a DEVICE ADMIN:com.sec.sprextension.phoneinfo.deviceAdminPhoneInfoReciever ..which has some pretty gnarly privileges- and thats an understatement-THIS **** LOOKS LIKE SPYWARE. I called my carrier and they said this is normal but I have a hunch that it is not, and anytime I meet someone with ans S3 I ask to look at their phone and they don't have it.
So on a mission to take control of my phone-I did root it, but again I'm not tech savvy so I don't really know what I can do with that..All I know is that I can NOT deactivate it even with the root. Can anyone shed some light on this??

Stupid enough not to put the phone back to stockbefore returning it to ATT

Hi Guys, this is my story
Recently I have saw a black mark on my screen that would not go away. In addition there were some spots that were also visible.
I have went to a ATT service spot and ask for a replacement, the guy looked at my phone and agreed to give me a refurbished phone.
I am worried about two things:
1. the guy said that if the spots were caused by water I will pay 500$. Truthfully, the phone was anywhere near water but it does look like water damage....
2. The phone that ATT took was rooted.
Do you think that I have a big bill coming on?
* really worried...

From my discussions with the att warranty department (ie. last three days), anything that they can constitute as user damaged, they will charge you 399 dollars for the refurbished phone.
So technically since the phone was rooted, unless the att tech reflashed it before sending it out, you have voided your warranty.
Even if its a HW issue?
What are the chances that they will reflash it? probably zero.....
Has anyone had something like this?

Even if its a hardware issue, while the phone is rooted the warranty is voided.
I am not sure never worked at att, but I am guessing they just put it in a box and ship it.
The most they do is wipe user data.
In all honesty, I would argue with them if they do charge. Reason: " the guy at the stand did not check it first. " all blame should fall on him because he furnished you with another phone without checking it first.
ATT rep.. The phone you provided us is no longer under warranty due to it being voided.
You.. The guy at the store gave me a new phone and said everything was ok. Why am I now being charged. Did he break it? .
ATT Rep.. I am sorry for the confusion.........
Something like that, just play really dumb like you have no idea what there talking about, and chances are the will void the charge due to employee negligence.
Now if you signed something agreeing to take the phone with the chance of being charged anyways, you may be **** out of luck. But its worth a shot. I know when it was cingular, our returns department never even checked the phones, the most we checked for was the water mark stickers. And even that was not always checked. When we sent them off to the manufacturer for exchanges we shipped them out in bulk and by doing so they realy couldnt tell what came from who.

The last part of that has changed since they use imei's now.
I think you will be fine. You giving the Warranty Department too much credit. You will be fine.
i guess it matters on how hard the warranty guyz wana work... hopefully they will get the phone on a friday lol good luck
A year or so ago i was buying a mytouch 3g in a tmobile store and the guy selling me the phone told me about how i could root the phone and wireless tether for free!
I even asked him if it would void the warrenty and he said it wouldnt!
I hope it will be OK.
Do they sent it to ATT o directly to HTC?

Right. He taped it up before me (for one of my earlier captivates) and when I asked if they would reset or anything like that, he said it'll go directly to Samsung. Its a good thing I always wipe data before I return any phone.
So my guess is, for phones returned within 30 days that wud come as refurb, they will be within AT&T. But for any hardware issues they won't even bother to look into it and simply return the phone to manufacturer.
I sent a rooted Samsung captivate (told them it had random shut down issue which was a known issue it didn't have that prob gps was crappy) in that was rooted and nothing happened. A lot of times its not cost effective for a manufacturer to check all that stuff. Remember they have to pay a tech by the hour to do all that. Its usually more cost effective to just refurb and either resell or use as a replacement. I'm betting you'll be ok. I wouldn't worry about it until you hear from them. And like the other guy said play dumb.

AT&T doesn't bother until the manufacturer comes back. I remember reading on Captivate forums where some people got billed full amount after a couple months cos Samsung came back to AT&T charging them.

I'm sure it has happened. Not everyone gets lucky. I will say this ATT techs aren't very bright. When i first got my inspire (used from craigslist) i put my sim in and it said it had a sim lock. I called tech support they told me they didn't know what it was. Then tried to tell me it was cause someone tried to root it and failed. I later figured out on my own that it was a bad sim and after having it replaced it worked perfectly. So i wouldn't count on ATT but Htc its a roll of the dice. Keep us posted let us know how things turn out.
Some of you are giving far too much credit to the warranty department. I can't speak for AT&T as I don't work for them...But I do, do tech support for Philips Electronics... In all honesty, 1 out of every 15 people here is technologically advanced. Most people work here because its a job.
The way our warranties work is 2 ways.
1. We either say screw it and send another product
or
2. The product comes in for testing, we test it...If it works, it goes back, if not, we replace it. 99.99% of the time, the people testing the product are not smart enough to look for alterations to the software.
Again, this is how we work here, and I can't speak for AT&T.

Not only not smart enough but like you said its just a job and they don't even bother to care. Like i said earlier there techs aren't very bright and tried to tell me someone tried to root the used inspire that i had. He even went around and asked other techs that's the only problem it could be he said. After some trial and error I figured it out called tech support back told the lady this time what i figured out she agreed and made note on my account that i could get a free sim. Glad i don't bother believing everything i hear lol and would rather do my own research first.
P.S. Its like that everywhere you go. People are all the same from job to job you see the same things everywhere lol.

And if the rep said that they will give you a free phone every 6months you would believe that too?

Never said I believed it, just quoting him
When htc gets the phone they will wipe it and put it back to factory because there is no need of anything on the phone and anything done on the phone software issues could be the problem, so always best from there stand point to have it back to factory. That is exact reason any time u call about anything with pc or phone they want u to restore to factory.

[Q] Getting my Samsung Galaxy S2 tomorrow

Hello everyone,
I am getting my Samsung Galaxy S2 tomorrow from a guy that has used the phone for less than a week. He told me that the phone is like brand new, no scratches, etc. I am kind of worried, because he told me that he installed the latest version of Cyanogen 7. He told me to NOT reboot the phone, because I am going to encounter problems ; he told me that the android setup (or whatever) is going to pop up. Also, I don't know what he was talking about, but he said he couldn't delete applications.
I don't know anything about android, is it possible to change the OS or even fix the issues he has mentionned?
Edit : He told me that he unlocked the phone, using an ''illegal'' application. Will the guarantee still work ?
If I change OS, is it still going to be unlocked? Or will I have to re-unlock it?
Thanks in advance,
heyangel
Yes it's possible. I suggest you take a look in the forums including guides regarding your new phone.
You've got nothing to worry about, enjoy the best phone on the market

Thank you for your fast and nice reply. I really appreciate it.
A friend of mine told me that it might brick, if I am unlucky while changing OS. I am really afraid, since I am paying 500$ for it. Is it worth it? Less than 3 weeks of usage.
Edit : He just told me he fixed the issue, he can delete applications.

Dr Frankenstein, hardware hacker!

Hey... My first post on xda I believe.. But I have been lurking around for years now, rooting (and trying to root) anything possible I'm a nurse now, but was a mechanic before that... So I have this tendency to tinker (generally ,successfully I must add). Question here:
I have a sch-I535 that has long since been rooted, flashed 10k times etc... Broke the screen and the contrast fluid leaked out Since the phone has full out pooped...
All I have now is an LG Vortex (Optimus, verizon version).. Rooted it.. HATE IT!!!
A friend has a bad ESN/IMEI sprint s3... I bought it, it's on its way now.. Can I just switch the hard drive, thus bringing my sim/simslot with it and call it a day? Or do I really have to pull all the guts from the sprint screen and plumb in my verizon guts? Haha Thx for the help!!

You are better off replacing the screen. There is no easy way to replace the hardware to make a sprint into Verizon. There are instructions online for replacing screens, doesn't seem that difficult. Good luck

Question on Samsung eventually bricking note 7s or carriers not providing serive

My question is, is if the phone is rooted and on a different rom would this avoid this and still let the phine work? If so i am on the new version that has not been rooted. I am willing to throw 100 bucks to start a pot if someone can help. Or will rooting and romming it not matter if samsung pushes updates to kill battery or sprint decides not tl provide service?
Root and custom ROM are for functionality, look, and feel. The device IMEI/SN/model number is what identifies the device.
Buy isnt there a way with certain roms to make ur device appear as a different device? I wanna keep this so bad im trting to think of anything that would keep them from messingbwith it. I guess root would be the first step. Do you guys think they will brick all note 7s and limit battery life in near future? Samsung told me they couldnt give me a def answer but said 80% chance within 6 months no note 7s will work. And i thibk that sucks. If we are willing to sign off on liability why cant we keep the phone.

Rest easy. There are still over 1 million Note 7's out there. Not everyone is drinking the koolaide. Its a VOLUNTARY recall. They will NOT kill service to this phone. If they were going to do that, they would have already. Why would they wait if these phones are so dangerous? They only did the recall to stop the bad press perpetrated by the AMERICAN media. I wouldnt be surprised if they continued to roll out updates for the ones who keep the phone. ALL of this is speculation, of course, but I have no worries that my phone will cease functioning or explode. I still have the original preorder and sleep just fine at night. Just for giggles, try googling "iPhone catches fire" and see how many hits show up. Then ask yourself "why" doesnt the national media report on these?

Well that makes me feel better....so most of u guys think our note 7s will keep working....atleast till another note comes out? Just like everyone i dont wanna downgrade....
I have seen those apple videos and i actually called samsung and asked if there was a chance apple could have been up to the phones blowing up? And they said i wasnt the only person who called about that especially considering the small amount of phones that blew....

I'm thinking of it as a freebie. I'll keep it until the next big thing comes out or I scratch the screen or break it the phone. Sprint says that there is no time limit for returning our devices and condition doesn't matter. I usually upgrade every year anyway so if no Android update comes for it... Oh well. Probably wouldn't have come out for months anyway. I'm just hoping a developer here will step up to the plate with a little Android N love.
Went to Best Buy tonight (Las Vegas), mobile sales rep stated that Verizon will begin black listing/deactivating their devices soon. Anyone else hear anything like this?
Yes this is what ibwas afraid of....i was told by samsung that the carriers will either blacklist the imei or samsung may send a update to brick the phone. But like someone said before why wpuld they have waited? They would have done it by now or atleast give offical word they were going too. I mean that cant just make kur phones stop working in the middle of whatever day they choose. They will have alot of angry customers.
Im hoping this all blows over and we can just keep our notes and trade them in when the s8 or note 8 come out.
Funny how there is so many Note 7s out in the world and u don't hear of any catching fire anymore. I'm sure it's just not people here at XDA that kept it.

Good point!
I still believe that fruit company had something to do with this...... People with money and power can make anything happen.....
So the main contents here on Xda is we won't have ou notes shut down?
Sprint sent me another text stating that they "MUST"exchange all note 7's it's starting to sound more mandatory than voluntary.plus i believe in my opinion that the batteries were not the reason some of the note 7s overheating and catching fire rather that it was a faulty monitoring system that regulates the fast charging in our note 7's,once again this is just my opinion, just makes more sense to me.

Got the same thing. Asked a rep. Still just voluntary. I don't think many people are interested in turning their Note 7 back in, so they're trying to make it sound more urgent

That's good to know cause im quite happy with my Note 7 both original and recall replacement both worked and still are performing excellently. Just need root for that PHE update and everything would be perfect.
I have confirmation from a friend who works in corporate Sprint... They will not block the phone. She also said that more than half of the note 7 users on the network are still active. People are not giving them up. They have to give out the warnings and offer all the opportunities to swap out.

Will I be able to swap it for note8 when its out?
I would say yes as long as the recall is still in effect.... They r gonna have a mess on their hands when the note 8 comes out and all us note 7 users go looking to replace them with note 8s lol
So, went into talk to a rep finally. Well two actually. Two separate locations. First one tells me that Samsung is going to put out a warning screen that pops up every couple of seconds on the Note 7. Second rep said he hadn't heard of anything like that, but he could see it happening. Guess I'm just tired of the BS. Switched to the V20. Running Nougat makes it a bit easier to take having to give up my Note. Did get all my incentives. Plus LG is sending me what they say are a 150 dollar set of headphones so.... Whatever. In a year or so, whenever Samsung gets its **** together and puts out the next big Note, I'll be first in line. For now I'll look at it as broadening my Android horizons. Been with Samsung for so long I don't mind taking the opportunity to try another brands flagship device.
Good luck to all you hard-core hold outs.
