[q] phone won't start! Help - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hello, I have a rooted At&T One X with TWRP. Installed CM10 on it first and then i decided to try IceColdJelly AOKP Rom. So after it finished flash my phone just went blank.
I tried charging it for over 8 hours, no led notification coming on and i held down the volume down and power button. No luck with anything i've tried. Im hearing the usb sound when plugged in to a pc but its not really recognizing the device. No luck as well with the wall charger
Whats can I do?? Helpppp!!! I need my phone to be on

I do not know how to help you but I did find this. Sorry bro...

Wow.
Not only are you hard-bricked, you hard-bricked after you were warned in your last thread to stay away from international ROMs.
There's nothing you can do but return it and hope you can get a warranty replacement. There is currently no fix for your predicament.

congrats

So what yor saying is that it would be easier and the same price to just get a new phone... Personally, I think they should charge more. You can't put a set price on the lack of knowledge and reasoning..

How to brick a onex

This may sound strange...but i need to find a way to brick my phone so that not even the bootloader will work.
i tried flashing different roms from different phones but everything seems to have a script to check phone models now so it wont let me flash.
i also tried to wipe everything, cache, system and stuff and force rebooting, doesnt work either.
any ideas?
May I ask why you want to do this?

My earpiece volume is very low to the point i cant hear anyone while walking on the street.
i borrowed my sisters onex and hers was totally fine.
i have a service plan through futureshop but they wont take it back if i modified it (they are smart enough to check bootloader which says tampered and stuff all over it)
so in order for me to fix it/get a new one i have to brick it to the point where they cant even see the tampering

His earpiece is defective. If he had not installed a ROM he would have been able to get a replacement. I dont think he should be punished for flashing a ROM by being forced to keep an already detective device.

I've discussed this many times, unlocking your bootloader does NOT void your warranty.
HTC says it MAY void your warranty.
Flash a ruu and send it back would be the ethical way to go. They don't check the bootloader, they probably send it to HTC or some sort of repair center.
Me personally I would brick it to reduce the chance of them trying to stick me with the cost of the phone. But I wouldnt tell anyone

Actually yes this problem happened after root/bootloader unlock
I am not the only one with this problem and it hasnt been the first phone ive had with this problem either
It was fine for a couple of months and then it was on and off, sometimes the volume will be normal in calls and sometimes it wont
then it just fully dies and stays a low volume
had the exact same problem with my evo3d and xperia arc

Wouldn't a bricked device be more suspicious than a defective earpiece? What would be the situation you could brick a device without unlocking the bootloader, or using a microwave? They can verify the earpiece is bad. I have some sort of defect with the screen, like a scratch or smudge between the LCD and the glass. I was just going to send it back with the bl relocked. But, my new one came with 2.20 already on it. So, I sent it back and will try again later for another, or if an exploit is found for 2.20, or take them up on the early upgrade GS III offer.
How bad is the earpiece issue? Worse than running stock sense? You may want to wait until you get a replacement to decide what to do.

one x motherboard swap

I have a Rogers htc one x that is ICJ bricked, and a line on a working, rooted Rogers one x that just has a shattered digitizer for $135. I'm planning on swapping the motherboard. I'm not worried about the physical swap, I've already disassembled the phone and I'm totally comfortable with that.
my only question is if there will be issues with hardware that I'm unaware of. my impression is that the motherboard has all the components with IDs on it like imei etc. and all the other components are totally swappable. so in essence, putting this other motherboard into my phone is more like transferring all my parts around his phone.
like saying "a brain transplant will never be possible, but perhaps a full body transplant one day."
but I digress...
is there anything I'm not considering?

It turned out quite well! I needed to unlock the Frankensteined phone, note that the imei needs to match the motherboard. Also, I needed to have a stock based (i.e. sense based) Rom installed for the unlock to work.
Other than that, the phone isn't too tough to disassemble (find a video, if you need help, let me know), although when I pulled one of the phones apart, it pulled the button portion of the power button off. I needed to swap the power button assembly with the other phone.
So as it stands, I have a perfect condition one xl, and one bricked xl with a shattered digitizer ($25 part) and no power button ($15 part). Still trying to figure out what to do with it...right now I'm just waiting to see if it can be unbricked. If so, I can fix it and sell it, or just let my wife have it.

My dilemma. To upgrade or not.

So I got a new att HTC one x last week for 9.99 from att. I love it! But now I'm liking the Lumia 920 and the x+ that's coming out this Friday for 200. I still have a week to exchange my phone...what should I do?
I already rooted and have cm10 running. And I'm happy other than battery life. But that's ok I always have a charger near by. I only like the true Google experience and hate the sense ui. But I did like my old wp7 phone. What should I do? Keep my one x or exchange it for the one x+? Our the Lumia 920?

I took my first one x back after 4 days to get the grey one. I had it unlocked and rooted and all they did was open the box, check for the charger, phone and USB cord. They do ask if you rooted the phone. I told him I didn't know what that meant, then he processed the return *your results may vary

lol I would love to work for a carrier... First thing I would do is load the bootloader up and check, but also boot the phone up just incase. Then if i see a custom rom, tempered/unlocked bootloader I'll just laugh and procede with the return/exchange.
Android to wp8 won't be a sweet transition so i would say that you go and get x+ if at all they happen to take it back !

Have you ever taken anything back to an att store? If it's in the first 30 days all they look at is to make sure your phone is in pristine condition and they exchange it on the spot. I'm only looking for advice whether i should trade up to the one x+ or not. I guess all everyone cares about on this forum is the at&t "warranty"

I personally not invest any time or money in a phone OS that has a 1 to 2 % market share, such as in the base of Windows Phone (market data showing WP at just under 4% market share actually include those that are still on the old Windows Mobile platform, and have simply not updated their devices).

I say wait till windows OS matures (maybe a generation after this one) because they don't have many important apps in their market ecosystem, currently. HTC One X is a good phone and you won't miss much except for the wireless charging plate included in the Lumia 920; uses the same processor too.

[Q] Bricked? Can't enter download mode

I just tried flashing to the latest slim bean rom and when I went to reboot, the phone turned off. Can't turn it back on, can't get into download mode with the USB cable, battery out/anything. Is there anything I can do at this point? IT seems completely dead. Doesn't even show a charging icon when I plug it into the charger. I've had problems before but I've at least been able to get into download mode.
Any suggestions??
Doesn't sound good. You have no life at all in the phone? If not you're hard bricked and jtag is your only hope. You sure you flashed to correct Rom for your device?

Thanks for all your help. I actually have an extended warranty, but they wanted to charge me $200 for a replacement (which would probably end up being a refurb anyway). I sent it out to mobiletechvideos today and I'm hoping to have my phone back by the end of the next week. Better make sure I double-check what I'm flashing next time
Another side question - I tried flashing a few ROMs but I got errors during the flash (CM10, CM9) Do I need to have a specific bootloader enabled for those?

No. Don't have to worry about boot loaders on the i727. Just make sure the Rom is for it. As you learned, flashing a rom for a different device is not a good thing. Good luck on the jtag.
Read vincoms stickies in the development forum. They have good information on flashing. There is a lot of info there so its not an easy read but they'll save you a lot of headaches of you go thru them.
Edit: what recovery were you using to flash? If you were having problems out its probably an older version. Check that you have the latest. I've had good luck with twrp 2.4.4.0

Nope, Ill tell you what happened. I have been having problems with the evolution mods kernel rebooting my phone, after i tried the "fixed" version.
So i flashed the full firmware from the 1.55.602 update (im running a stock rom with bloating removed) and i removed the hboot from the zip. Since im running a custom hboot with the text removed. Thinking i could just reflash the stock kernel.
i flashed it, did a fastboot reboot and now its deader than a hammer.
no charge, no usb activity, no turn on. dead as can be. Ill take any and all suggestions. I know my way around pretty well, so im surprised that its bricked. But its the first M8 brick, unless someone has a clever idea?

You think this would be worth anything for a dev to be able to figure it out, repair wise?

Yeah I'd be happy to take a look at it to see if there are any opportunities for software-based unbrick.

well, its at HTC (en route) right now. It should get there wed/thurs. If i get a bad case of sticker shock, illl get it sent back. If they can fix it for reasonable, then i will get it fixed. I am a big fan of your effort to free these android devices. So if they want too much, id be happy to send it to you. Maybe you can prevent the next one from occuring. BTW firewater is an amazing piece of work, i must say

No worries, hopefully you can get it fixed reasonable. Kudos for being honest about it, most people would claim warranty.
Actually I dont mind buying devices. Just for something like this I wouldnt feel good intentionally bricking a $600 device. I do it enough on accident

So i had edged up from my M7, ended up selling that for 400. Got the M8, had 2 payments made, bricked it. So i had to pay off the 500 on the edge. Now whats interesting if you early payoff the edge, you are out of contract, COMPLETELY. So i ended up with a free standard upgrade, so i was able to edge again. thats a FYI if anyone is interested. Kinda sucks, but i made my money back already fixing computers this week. Any idea what i did wrong, i have flashed M7 & M8's & DNA's so many times....I know my way around. Im still baffled
