[Q] Wireless LAN Problem on 2,4 GHz - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I've found a quite strange problem with my wireless lan Connection on my one x.
I'm using a dual band wireless lan Access Points with two separate ssids. SSID1 is a WPA2 protected 2,4ghz Network, SSID2 is a WPA2 protected 5ghz Network.
I connected my one x to ssid1, that worked for a few months, now connecting to that 2,4ghz Network Fails (one x tries to connect every few seconds, but it fails). Connection to SSID2 on 5ghz works without any problem.
I used android revolution, but flashed 1.29 RUU and updated to 2.17 ota, it didnt change anything. CID is 169.
Are there known Hardware Problems which cause 2,4ghz to fail or is there any setting which could cause this.
I've also seen that the three sensor keys on the bottom of the device do no longer work, no reaction and not even Background light for these 3 keys.
Any idea how i could reactivate the 2,4ghz WLAN? I don't care about the sensor keys because i don't use that one x as mobile phone, it is just a nice remote control for my xbmc mediacenter and that works over WLan.

[Q] NS WiFi Problem - Obtaining IP Address

First of all may I say I have searched for this problem on google, as well as xda forum. I did find several threads about this problem, but none of the solutions presented appear to be my case.
So, basically the problem is: I cannot connect to my home router, a Linksys WRT300N N-router. I could not connect with a N1, HTC Desire, nor with my actual NS. My previous Galaxy S was connecting fine though. I'm talking here about stock ROM, no rooting, no custom kernel etc. Also, using static IP address works like a charm, but then WiFi cannot be used on other outside routers, since Static Ip setting is not setup PER router, but rather per WiFi connection, meaning the phone will try to use the static IP defined for any WiFi I run into.
From My experience, it seems it could be related to wireless N router as opposed to b/g. This happened since I replaced my router with the actual one. Ever since this happened, my phone would not connect to my router. Also, this problem seems to be presentfor any N-router, since I cannot connect to WiFi in other locations as well (which might have N-routers as well).
Assuming that it is a problem with N-routers, I don't understand why the Galaxy S would connect, but NS not, since they are almost the same hw.
Does anyone have a clue on this? But please skip solutions like reset router, reset phone, reset modem, use different ROM etc. I am talking stock ROM for all the examples above.

I use my NS with three 802.11N routers without issue (D-Link, Belkin and Netgear).
Have you checked if MAC filtering on the router is active? What security mode are you using? Who makes yr router and does it have latest fw?

Just seen you use Linksys, I have a wag160n and I find it unsusable on terms of wifi, dreadful hardware, despite the parent company being Cisco
Check Linksys forums for problems.
Try another router for whether it's that or phone at fault.

MAC filtering is disabled, I've checked it. Security is, on the router, PSK-Personal with TKIP encryption. Key renewal: 7200 sec. Not sure if this can influence anything.
I've checked on linksys page for fw upgrade, they only have pdf manuals.

Have you checked that you set up the router with b/g/n protocols? not only N..
Try to change the password encrypting method, to WPA or WPA2 or WEP, try also to change the default password.
Have you tried to disable the firewall (DMZ)?
I have exactly the same issue on my stock Desire.....
I have recently upgraded my router from a Belkin G+ to a Belkin N+ and using the b/g/n setting the desire WILL see the connection but will NOT connect to it, NO MATTER WHAT settings you try. Changing it to b/g and it will connect without any issues.
It is my understanding that the Desire/Nexus et al doesnt have the access to the N ability enabled (it has the correct chipset but for some reason it is not active).
Maybe when broadcasting the tri-band the chipset only sees the stronger N connection, therefore tries to connect but gets conflicted (due to lack of N firmware) and instead of switching to b/g it just loops to the stronger signal. IF that makes any sense

Well, the funny part is that I don't even know how to disable the N range to my Linksys 300N.
Anyway, it is weird that the Samsung Galaxy S had no issues with this, while Nexus S (still Samsung made, brother-in-law to SGS) has this issue. For HTC, all have had this problem, including Desire, Desire HD, Wildfire.
Still no explanation or resolution to this matter.
I may have fixed this issue (well I have for me anyway, so yay).
After posting this I decided to apply some weird logic to it. So I reset the router back to b/g, to do this you need to log into the router IP settings, for Belkin it is 192.168.2.1. On linksys routers I think it is 192.168.1.1 but check to be sure.
Once you are logged in there you can change the broadcast settings from N, b/g/n or b/g etc.
Okay, so here is what I did. I reset the router to broadcast b/g only, my Desire would connect. So I decided to try resetting the router to broadcast b/g/n (because I use N on other devices) and then switched the wifi on the desire off and back on again. Low and behold it connects.......Tried it loads of times now and connects everytime!
Might be worth a try?
You guys should just check the logs on the router and see what they say. Should give you a much better idea of what the issue is. You can then Google the error line.
Mine is fixed now, been connecting to various N routers with NO probs since I did the workaround.
My guess would be a protocol conflict (wireless handshake if you prefer) when N routers are broadcasting (based on the fact that the Desire/Nexus etc dont have N protocol enabled in the chipset firmware).
To get around the conflict connect to an N router using the b/g only setting in the routers IP settings and then check you can connect okay and switch the b/g/n back on in the router. I've done this twice today (different N routers, a Linksys and a D-Link) and it works on both where it wouldnt before, so it wasnt just my router.
hum... i am having the exact same problem as described only my router is already using
802.11g&802.11b
i have no idea why it keeps trying to obtain ip address
then it scans agains because it can't connect and tries to obtain the ip again
after trying for a minute or 2, the home ssid becomes:
"disabled, secured with..."
(device = motorola atrix)
I have tried everything and still not working... do routers block Mac addresses if it doesn't connect right away?

Wifi does detect one network while not the other

I observed a very starnge thing with my new htc one x. The wifi works fine but does not catch all the wifi in the area. To be clear. My phone connects at work to university wifi and the signal remain rock solid.
But At home it will not detect my onw home wifi, while it detects many others from the neighbours. Is there a way to solve this issue.

Have you tried simply power cycling your WiFi router?
Also, try a different security type on the router. For example if its set to WPA, try WPA2, or vice versa. If its WEP, try WPA or WPA2. WEP in particular is not recommended, as its not very secure, and I believe does not play well with our phone.

[Q] WiFi disconnects while showing it is connected only on Android

Hi,
I have multiple devices at home using the WiFi fine (iPad, Laptops...)
But with two android devices (Nexus 5 and Galaxy S 4, both on unmodified) I have the same problem.
It connects to the network, and works just fine, but after some time, there isn't any internet connection, although it shows as if it's still connected.
By disabling and enabling Wifi I get internet connection again, but it's really annoying.
Here's my setup:
Edimax router as AP
2.4 GHz (B+G+N)
Visible ESSID
Channel number 6
Encryption: WPA 2 (AES) pre-shared key (passphrase)
No MAC Filtering
EDIT: This router is a switch with wireless, it is connected to a diffrent router that is connected to the internet.
What can I do? Should I modify any of my WiFi settings?

If asking you're whether I had disabled the WiFi optimization in the WiFi settings, yes I have...
I have just only remembered that this router is actually a switch with wireless. The internet is connected to the other router, which is connected to the router i'm asking about (EDIMAX) which acts as a switch.

Wifi roaming bug is back on S7

I have two wifi APs with the same SSID and it will stick to one of them with next-to-useless connection while standing near the other one. which would have much better connection.
This works fine on my Nexus 9 tablet and even better on my iPad and my wifes iPhone..
I tried some possible workarounds like Always allow wi-fi roam scans but I didn't see any effect.
This fix for SG3 might work but i havn't rooted.

wifi has a bug in 6.X and its been talked about before.
my problem some times when i want to connect to another wifi it connects for a 1 sec and then drops it
i turn off wifi and back on and it will connect
i'm trying the app "Wifi roaming fix" but i think it causes the wifi to disconnect for a couple of seconds when it switches.
Strange that this seems to be of no interest to anyone. Is there indeed nobody who is using one or more WLAN APs in addition to his/her WLAN router? I can't believe that.
I have two APs (Main router and 2nd router as AP) but not for more coverage, my main router pushes 5GHz wifi, the second AP pushes 2.4GHz for older clients that can't connect to 5GHz
The 5GHz router is placed on a wall in the middle of the house and the entire house has great coverage so no need for more APs
I have more APs in my house with OpenWRT and 802.11r aka Fast Roaming configured and roaming between all my APs is working perfectly with all my devices.
Note 10.1 2014 Wifi, S7 Exynos and all other also.
With APs configured as "normal" ap with the same SSID and key i had the same issue as you mentioned.
I think your phone dont know that it could roam between your two APs.
If you could not run OpenWRT on your APs for 802.11r, you could try to enable WDS on both APs even if your APs connected by wire.

wifi connection problemp - solved

We have set up a WiFi router at our summer house and all devices bar my OnePlus 8 connects without problem to the WiFi. My phone connects to the WiFi but not the internet. Have restarted the phone and removed and added the WiFi connection but no luck. Any idea what's going on?
I had this problem with my oneplus 8, European version, where at times internet connection would drop, but wifi was still connected so the phone was in effect blocked since I use VoWiFi both voice calls and data was blocked.
The problem turned out to be between my router and the oneplus 8. I had to go into the settings of the router and disable a feature called "band steering". This setting will make the two different wifi gateways inside the router, the 2.4 ghz and the 5 ghz appear as one and the same with the same SSID name. This is supposed to simplify setting up devices with wifi but is known to cause problems sometimes.
As soon as I had separated the two and given them different names, I no longer have a problem with internet access dropping from the wifi.
I have no idea where the fault happens, I only know that I have had to disable band steering with another router I had before. I think this feature might be a bit unstable.
No idea what's happened but this morning it just worked.
