made for linux, but if you know a bit of c, you can probably change it to work with windows, maybe I will do that if I have some time this week.
********OR********
http://jiggawatt.org/badc0de/android/unyaffs-x86-win.zip
or http://www.4shared.com/get/fgryPnPx/unyaffs-windows.html
for windows..... instructions below apply for both
if not included in the zips above, cygwin1.dll and unyaffs.exe are included as an attachment of this reply.
open up a command line, in windows vista/7 just press start and then type cmd press enter and change the directory to the folder with the unyaffs and the img in it. in xp press start>run>cmd... then the same
the usage is: unyaffs /path/to/img
example:
(if unyaffs.exe and system.img are both in c:\temp)
"c:\temp> unyaffs /temp/system.img"
note: the '/' is the way linux determines the pathname of a file and since it is built using cygwin(a file allowing for windows) it is preferrable that the path to the actual file is in unix POSIX format ie: / instead of \ between folders and files.
*********WARNING************
this will extract to directory that unyaffs binary is in.
That's so weird -- I was gonna post the same thing tonight. Thx for writing this up. It's odd that more people don't talk or ask about this tool!
I remember reading this stuff back when I got my G1, and tonight I was trolling the themes and apps section cause I couldnt sleep. (which I rarely look at)
I was baffled that this wasnt common knowledge. I figured if there was no threads about it that people just knew how and didnt have any problems with it. My mistake lol...
enjoy.
can you please explain what is it? what it does? thanks

Umm, it expands nandroid img files not sure how else to explain it. Clockworkmod backups are in the img file format. This process allows you to extract those files to get stuff out of them
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
When you create a backup in Clockwork recovery, it leaves you with a folder like this:
2010-11-18.08.52.49
As you can prob figure out, I made that backup on 11/18 at 8:52am
Inside that folder are .img files, such as: data.img and system.img
Those files basically contain your data (like apps you've installed from market) and system (..system apps that might've come with the phone).
In the orig post, he's explaining how to extract the files from these large .img files.
To give an example, I had a couple of corrupted clockwork backups, and wanted to ONLY pull out some database files (like text messages and call logs) which were not corrupted. Even tho the backup was messed up, I could still extract the files I needed by using the method above, then copied them manually to my phone.

Right, like if you wanted a file or a few files from clockworkmod img backup, then this process would give you an extended file system, other than what you would normally use to extract the img files. Just trying to understand this so, please correct me if im wrong.... I've been trying to get more knowledge of this, so im still learning.
I prolly sound like a complete idiot, lol...
Sweet! Thanks for this man. I'd been looking for how to do this for some time and kept ending up learning about emulation or some other tangential topic. This is the basic functionality I was looking for. Thanks for posting!
Np. I'm working on writing some stuff on top of the source code that should allow you to browse and pull just one our more file
Its been a but since I looked theory source code so it might take a while... Maybe in between semesters?

Dode you saved my as** thx big thx
Great, now how can I re-compress back to .img after I've made the changes that I want?
EDIT: Nevermind. I just made a zip of the new system folder and flashed it in CWM.
This worked great for me.
Thanks,
Bud
Man, I do not know how to thank you. I was able to recover some important stuff off of my cwm recovery backup. THANKS!!

[Q] [ROM stock] I'm searching for Alcatel OT-4033D ROM

Hi,
As the title suggests I'm looking for the original firmware of the Alcatel OT 4033D because, after I bricked mine, I can't find a working ROM for my phone (I've tried various ROM for MT6572 processor and Android 4.2.2 but I don't read the SD card and the SIM (Although setting the correct IMEI))
If someone is own this device could make me a dump? I just need the file "system.img", the others I already have.
PS: It's okay if it's not the file .Img but the zip of the partition with the files contained in /system
Thanks in advance to who answers C:

Can u tell me how did u installed CWM? I can't find the compatible image..
Or, if u want, can u upload it? So I'll do a backup and I'll upload it! TY
Edit:
I've installed CWM 5 ad I did a nandroid backup.. It's 1.6GB ( uncompressed ).. So, I'll begin to upload it 31 night (GMT+1) splitted in parts in MEGA or MediaFire.
If someone can test it is better, but it should work!

Thank you for that n1osbb2;51494733.
I also have a bricked one, it gets stuck at animation. I can boot into stock recovery.
Can someone tell me what I need to do to fix it?
Another idea is if we could change the firmware version number to something lower, then the Alacatel "Mobile Upgrade S" would be essentially forced to overwrite it. Right now it sees my phone's version as up to date and stops there.
So... Is it at all possible to alter the firware version number on the phone?
edit
n1osbb2, could you please take a backup with MTK Droid Root & Tools as well?
You can find it here under Android Software and Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi, the backup by MTK droid tools fails everytime, I'm trying to debug the error.. If I have sucess I'll upload it.
BTW you can try another methods:
-Flash the CWM using MTK droid tools ( if you want the modified recovery, img I can upload it, or if u want MTK generates the img automatically: there is a guide on google; and then you can flash my backup without user data trought the CWM
If u want CWM make adb works, so you can do a backup of your firmware in order to can come back in the prevoiuos situation if it's needed
OR
-Using the latest version of SP flash tools, u can flash the system.img that u can find in my CWM backup. The latest version have no bugs with the generation of the scatter file, so it could work, but I'm not sure
Sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand..
Let me know if one of this methods works, thank you!

Thanks for the reply.
Is the modified recovery.img not the one included in the zip you uploaded?
Re the second option, there is no system.img inside - that's the reason I asked for a MTK Droid Root & Tools backup.
The contents of your zip are these:
Code:
.android_secure.vfat.tar
boot.img
cache.ext4.tar
recovery.img
system.ext4.tar

I confused the system.ext4.tar with the system.ext4.img
So, I have done half MTK droid backup (it stops when it give me the error, so is not thecomplete backup, but the system.img os ok..) and there is the system image file.. I can upload it 5-04 night (GMT+1) or maybe this night. I'll post the link when it's uploaded.
The firmware of the 4033D have the custpack partiotion too, adn I don't know if it's needed too, so if the flash of system.img fails I'll upload the custpack too
The recovery with CWM is here: https://www.mediafire.com/?bg4rtah9tsbhszs
EDIT: I done a full backup with MTK adn I prepared files for flash tool. I compressed it all in ~460MB archive, t should contain everything. The upload time is the same!
EDIT2 4-3-14 0051 gmt+1: I'm uploading it on Mediafire! It's a high compressed arc archive, so it can drop the pc perfomance while extracting, so have patience
With my connection it wants a lot of time, it say ~8hrs

Extract IMEI from Nexus 5 TWRP Backup files

Hello together,
i hope you guys can help me out here. Today my Nexus 5 has been stolen. Now i want to prosecute but i need my IMEI. I am currently not at home but i got my laptop with a backup made by TWRP.
The folder looks like this:
http ://puu.sh/ nzexP/cfbff68baf.png (remove the spaces, i am new here thats why i cant post links yet)
As you can see there are some files and also two files efs1 efs2. But i dont know how to extract those or where to find my IMEI in that files.
Could someone please help me with that?
Thanks in advance
Edit: I found something in that recovery.log which might help to extract it? The log says:
Backing up EFS...
I:Backup command: 'dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12 of='/data/media/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/05f111c90047784e/2015-08-18--14-50-33_cm_hammerheadcaf-userdebug_5.1.1_LMY48G_501//efs1.emmc.win' bs=1048576 count=3'

Maybe you guys now know which command the file was created with and you maybe know something for this in reverse to extract?
You don't have the box?
Call your carrier and they may have a record of the last IMEI for yoru nexus 5.
I have Bell Canada as my carrier and their system is able to read the imei from my phone.

Isnt it possible to extract this backup files?
If you go to Google dashboard it will give you a list of all Android devices ever signed in to that account. Including IMEI.

Downloaded Chinese firmware but can't extract Call Recorder - IMG file not EXT4 !

Please anyone senior to comment of what I do and what's the right way ?
- I decompressed Chinese firmware for P40Pro. Finally extracted bunch of partitions as IMG files and I am lost now:
Linux says
>file system.img
> DATA
while I expected EXT4. Maybe extraction went wrong ? How do I now open IMG partition and get my Call recorder from it ? What other API I would need to extract to allow access to mic and speakers... Anyone can put some light on all this topic ?
Where did you get the firmware, If I could give it a try, I might be able to retrieve the apk (not sure, but there's always a chance if the apk exists).
Huawei switched away from the EXT4 file system to EROFS
Works like charm :

I found it here at easy firmwares. I also have found a script on XDA which should extract content of IMG file which is not EXT3 indeed.
Here is a thread about mounting EROFS
Maybe this helps someone ?
