I've lurked on these forums for a while, but gained interest to post with WP8, but I still don't know some things.
Can I post about the Lumia 822 here because it is similar to the 820? I doubt a dedicated forum would be much use.
That being said, does anyone have this phone? What is your opinion of it versus the 920, 820, or 810 (if you've played with any of the others)?
I've only had a chance to play with the 822 and 8X at the Verizon store. I will probably be getting the 822 but I wanted to hear what you guys think.
The 822 probably has enough spec differences to warrant a separate page on XDA:
- different radio supporting slightly different CDMA and GSM bands - probably just due to firmware rather than different HW components
- 720p front-side camera (VGA on 820)
- 16GB onboard (8GB on 820)
- 1800 mAh battery (1650 mAh on 820)
- gorilla glass
- different set of in-box apps (AT&T vs Verizon branding choices)
- etc.

The 822 seems like a winner to me. Not quite as big and heavy as the 920, but quite a decent spec bump compared to the 820.

Couldn't agree more. Sans the OIS in the camera of the 920, and the low screen res, 822 is my favorite of the 3. Especially because of the microSD slot (and 16GB onboard).
I already ordered my white one. It should come in Tuesday. I'll post what I think about it overall.
I agree too! The 822 needs a forum, and it a great phone.
I just ordered the 822 from the wallmart sale - I could not resist getting PAID $100 for a new phone (even if it meant renewing my contract). It would be great to have a forum so we could all exchange tips, tricks, ideas, etc!
announcment to all! the touchstone works flawlessly with the 822! the charging back appears to lock it in place! and they are cheap! spread the word

Do you mean this device:

Can you please post a series of pictures showing that it actually charges? How long does it take for full charge? Many other folks have posted about this already, but no solid proof that it actually charges the phone properly. Looks like it just sets the charging indicator:

well it seemed to have worked for the first few days. phone must be on. and it basically is just keeping the battery from draining to much, as i installed more apps with background tasks it doesn't seem to charge, only slows the discharge, kinda sucks, i was pretty excited at first, especially since it was only $6 with shipping. oh well, sorry guys. it shows charging and seemed to work. even over night it seemed like it, but only with the phone in idle, with phone off it didn't seem to charge at all...lame.
its quite odd that its a QI charger, which is the requirement, and i was using the nokia charger that came with the phone. it must have an internal restriction to how much it will put out. but like i said it worked till i started install more apps that use background resources even when phone is in idle. wish there was a way to check how many amps the phone was charging at vs. directly plugging the phone in.

I have the same issue, I have a friend offering his 822 for $200, but I am on AT&T. Gonna take it just to flip it, but would love to bring it into the fold if it can be unlocked/used on AT&T (not expecting LTE, just maybe 3G or HSPA+)
i too am planning to buy lumia 822 and use it in india. is the gsm actually unlocked out of the box? kindly help me so i can order one.
thanks

I'll sure will. But I ordered this phone, using by companies president(because delivery to Ukraine from seller is too complicated), so I'll receive my phone in the end of February.
But three buyers with good rating (two of them marked device as unlocked/ ready to be activated with any gsm sim) approved that phone comes factory unlocked, so I'm pretty sure that it's true.

I purchased mine from MS store as a replacement so as to not change my plan.
It came with blank SIM.
The SIM from my VZW HTC Thunderbolt was too large for 822 slot so I put the blank SIM that came with phone in and called VZW to activate the replacement phone with no plan changes.
VZW Tech had 822 up and running within 10 minutes in Global mode with LTE with no change to my old unlimited data and text 700 minutes plan. I've gone to my account on their site to verify no changes.
I'd just got the 822 this past weekend. I've had a few days to play around with it and so far I'm loving every second of it. I'd love to see this great phone get it's own forum.
Does anyone still know whether or not the phone is usable on AT&T when it is a Verizon stateside model? Do you have to purchase an unlock code or can you just pop your SIM in?

I'm using the Lumia 822 with Vodafone Karnataka. I can confirm that it's only partially unlocked. I have been unable to send sms and connect to data; the rest of the features work. There are several discussions about this very problem on other forums; but none with a fix.
I'm now considering selling the phone.

i got a lumia 822 on friday. the data and sms worked perfectly. i had to enter apn details for vodafone tamilnadu. on saturday morning, i found portico update and i updated it over the air. after the update, the apn details couldnot be entered and the sms couldn't be sent. then i found the access point app from nokia and i installed it. the data works well now. but the sms is not being sent, kindly check if the firmware is 1532.5951.1250.1012 which is portico update. these problems appeared after the portico update.
can nokia US find a solution for this problem?

Just wondering if I decide to use a tmobile prepaid sim in it.
UPDATE for the lazy folks:
Yes, this can be sim-unlocked
Currently, this is the only unlocker who is able to: http://unlockphonenetwork.com/unlock/3
Turnaround time is 12-24 hours.
No, this phone does not have 3g on T-Mobile, only 2g EDGE speeds are possible.
I thought you were going to go use whatever phone "real men" use?

HAHAH! +1 on that, I was thinking the same thing when I replied but was gonna keep it a little more friendly.
Weren't you anti the 1x just yesterday?
2G uses the same basic GSM frequencies as phone calls, I think. If you can make a call, you can get 2G. Really slow 2G...
Just as an update, I have two pending unlock requests for the HTC one X from different companies (got a good deal so the two were only $15 combined).
The first one I tried failed and they refunded my money. Hopefully someone can unlock this device.
Any update on this ?

Not necessarily true.. if you use a newer tmobile sim card you will only be able to make calls and text, there is no Edge unless you use an older sim card.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Plan on bring this phone overseas.

All as an update, still no word on my two pending unlocks. The company I tried but refunded me was Cellunlocker.net
The two places I have a pending unlock with are cellunlock.net and UnlockMagic.com Update FAILED
Pending some word from them I will gladly try other services, but I can't afford to pay everyone to unlock my phone

HTCcode.com doesn't even let me proceed after telling them my IMEI.
Since there is more action in this thread than my thread with the same question, I'll post here. Thanks for trying those that their phones already. I'll try some of the other services not yet tested once I get mine.
I'm starting to think I've purchased an iPhone now. Lock bootloader, no carrier sim unlock. Google Voice not working fully.
i'm waiting aswell, my bro and i will be spending 1100$ for 2 devices, so we dont wanna be stuck with devices that cant make calls (

Even when I purchased my iPhone at full price it came sim unlocked on AT&T. The One X on the other hand.....
Well, UnlockMagic.com just failed and gave me a refund.
I went ahead and purchased an unlock from http://unlockphonenetwork.com and in record time they refunded my money. They claim there is a method (http://unlockphonenetwork.com/products-page/htc-unlock-codes/htc-unlock-code-not-found?cid=25) but its $30 and will take 12-24 hours.
In the interest of science, and of course getting my phone unlocked I am taking the plunge now.
my bro is currently in the US, he'll be leaving on the 11th, so i don't think i've got much time :S
Sorry for the crazy amount of posts, but those subscribed may not have seen all my updates (and they were plentiful).
The quick summary:
cellunlocker.net - failed
unlockmagic.com - failed
first attempt at phoneunlocknetwork.com - failed
cellunlock.net - pending
htccode.com - wouldn't let me proceed after sharing my IMEI
QUESTION - if they manage to unlock the BL, will that also allow us to make it SIM-free ?

Are you buying it from HTC.com or sprint store? If I were you id buy from HTC.com otherwise you will not be protected by their Uh-Oh protection and any real technical assistance you may require from them may be little if they know you bought the handset from sprint instead of thier site. You only get the damn insurance u pay for with sprint so....buy from HTC then add on sprint insurance afterwards. That being said....i have a sprint A9 and cant speak of why the price is different vs the other carrier variants offered but it was only hard to unlock it and root when i first got it cause it JUST was released and there was even less help or support anywhere offline and online. It was especially rough when i nearly bricked it and no where I could find an RUU, or files to flash via fastboot or anything to fix it. I literally spent weeks or perhaps a month and half constantly nagging and *****ing HTC, Sprint for providing the RUU for everyone else BUT the Sprint handset and none could offer a way to fix my phone. I didnt want to use insurance since i just bought it full price....so paying a hefty 200 bucks for deductible was not something i wanted to do. Anyhow, after sending numerous nasty surveys, and responses plus berating every rep i got who was seriously completely useless at HTC....they coughed up the RUU.
That was last year so NOW...if your are just getting in the mix...then it shouldnt be difficult for you to unlock and root the device. I posted the lastest RUUs myself and imgs for anyone who needs em and there are a few older files available too. Still.....i love the A9.....i only hate the lack of community support here especially with ROMs etc but its a solid handset nonetheless. I would still upgrade to the HTC 10 and probably will in a few months depending on whats out.....why buy the A9 and not the 10?

Money. I want to buy a used one on Ebay for around 200 bucks (sprint ones are sold even at 175 if you find the correct offert) There is no way I could get even an M9 for that price. I asked a unlocker web site and they told me they dont unlock sprint phones because they use GDMA and its almost impossible to unlock it, another web site told me they do with guarantee...IDK but I am out site USA and certainly I dont want to buy a phone I can't use...Sadly in my country there is no A9 so I can't even get one here but I really love that phone and want to get one.

I see i understand that....unfortunately even if u unlock it you may not be able to get it to work where u are since the bands in CDMA that sprint uses are much different from GSM used internationally. If you havent yet, I'd check to see what bands are used in your specific locale and if sprint handsets could possibly work off any. Its unlikely you will be able to use full LTE speeds on it but it may work 3G/2G IDK.
P.S if you can swing 50 more bucks spend 250ish...you could get an international variant i found on amazon for 249.00 refurbished and 224.00 for a used good condition M9....id try for those rather than any cdma variant like sprint or verizon. If you need a handset to be unlocked for use on any other provider....its easiest to just take it to whomever you want to have service with and they can unlock it for use on their service sometimes or just ask the current service provider for the MSL, insert a different sim card and enter MSL to unlock it. If you own a handset outright they wont deny you access to the MSL. I always get it from sprint since i usually buy a phone full price.

Yeah I think i'll have to do so,I would prefer a sub 200 dollars phone since import fees goes really high after that(20%) so a 50 bucks more would actually mean 100 for me. I prefer an HTC for the audio quality for headphones and Sense(I really don't like any other android variant I've tested so far). I really like the A9 design, in your opinion the M9 would be better? Talking about bands I know AT&T works perfectly fine(I have an M7 from ATT) I think I can get an A9 unlocked or from ATT for around 230 but I think an M9 for 250 would be a better choice, I could also get a ATT(used in amazon) version and unlock it for 12 bucks.
In any case thank you so much for your answer it really helped me. and BTW one last question, I got an M7 who some time stop making calls, I went to a repair center(not official since HTC have no presence in my country) and they told me that "the transmitter was broken and it could not be repair" do you know anything about it like other cases or people with the same problem?

AH, curses...forgot about those pesky importing fees......I agree on using HTC mostly because of the audio quality alone as well. Sure, other devices have hifi audio similar i've heard.....however only a few actually list having hifi 24bit audio as a top selling point and feature. I hear of certain devices having great Dirac audio systems on here usually or other forums...but if a handset has such capabilities then why is it not listed on any spec sheet I can ever find when i scour many sites....seemed dubious so HTC it is. They have some flaws i hate but otherwise its solid.
As for the M9 vs A9....well i've never had the M9 but people here and elsewhere rave about it and it has more support online unlike the A9 sadly....audio quality is also HIFI except has Dolby surround on the M9 since that handset has dual front facing speakers but thats bout it. It doesn't sport the HI-Res 24bit audio like A9, A9 is somewhat faster, little less bulky etc....I'd say go for A9 obviously....for the Hi-Res audio alone haha
Transmitter issues on the M7? Nothing like that ive had happen.....what do you mean exactly when you say transmitter? Are you referring to signal issues...the receiver like you have no sound when calling? Does it refuse to call out or receive calls or both?
OH...one last thing...the M8 Harman Kardon Edition may be cheaper if you find one...its older obviously but it is another one geared specifically towards Hi-Res music. However, it may only be available on Sprint but check it out anyhow

My problem with the M8 its the camera...I already surfer the 4.7MP of the M7 and its painfull zoom. Don't want to have another phone with a similar camera.
About the transmitter...It doesn't call, whenever I want to call the signal bar drops to 0 and it says a message that can't connect to the network. In the repair center thought my phone was stolen and reported(it appears to have similar behavior) I thought it could be the radio firmware and I flash all the radio firmware I could find of all the version and it didn't work, so I went to the repair center and they told me that the transmitter was broken and it can't be repair.
In any case I will see if I can find an A9 or M9 for 200 or a little more, the bigger community of the M9 its tempting but I'd really like to get an A9. Again thanks for your answer :good:

Hmmm, man it could be a ton of reasons possibly for the call issues. Simplest fix would be to factory reset....i assume you already tried that maybe? If you did, what happened once it rebooted fresh? DId it work for awhile or exact same symtoms? You could modify your call settings, apns, band modes etc if you know the details of your providers abilities and details for what works on their network otherwise your going in blind and messing with the band modes, modifying apn values etc can be alot and mess your phone up. I use a handy and extremely informative app i linked below called Developer(Material Design). It has indepth information on just about everything on your handset. For example....one option in menu for Telephone information on my Network state currently, types, sim operator, sim-state, serial number etc etc....this will give you an idea of what part in the network connections is broken maybe. To know what is normal-ish vs not...if you have a handset that does work perfectly and same network then you could compare and locate an issue easier. Another menu option far below is Phone Manager...seems to have same infor as Telephone menu option above in same app but i didnt go through it all so check there too. Lastly, if you want an easier fix and not to interested in finding the culprit or taking the time to research it all..theres a menu option in the middle area called Hidden Codes....those are the ## dialer codes if you've used em...see what works there. Or use these http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-s/general/cdma-dialer-codes-sprint-t1097554....I would use the option for network reset but cant recall what it was specifically. GOOD LUCK

GOOD LUCK

I've tried everything I could but nothing worked. I just gave up and bough a cheap android phone for my calls and to use as a hotspot one of those galaxy ace/j/v/d or whatever, but...my mom took my phone for mistake thinking it was hers and guess what she got robbed that day lol. So I just want/have to to get a new one.
I was checking and it appears that there is not a single A9 in my country but I can get a M9 for around 210 dollars and I'm going to buy it. It would be silly not to since an A9 would be like 300 with all expenses. Anyways thanks for you help was really helpful :good:

Hi all,
I am currently on the right mood to bring it back on Monday.
NO APPS installed except WhatsApp and drains battery like hell.
Doesn't get to 6hrs screen time.
Disabled dc dimming, wifi scan and everything else the web might have mentioned about saving battery.
Even blocked Google Play Services from accessing gps (as last test).
Apparently there is no app sucking more than the others, it is just what you use that drains way too much battery.
FYI I am in London with no 5g coverage (north London), no network switch issues, indeed.
Last update has been installed.
Give your thoughts.

Hi,
I'm in Manchester, but only issue I have had is lack of dual SIM function. Does yours have dual SIM? Thanks in advance.
No dual SIM here.
What about your battery?
Could you publish your screen on time etc?
Mine suffered from lots of phantom touches, requiring multiple reboots and was also single SIM.
I also complained to EE as they said on their website that the phone shipped with USB-C headphones, but nothing was included in the box.
...Mine has already been sent back; it's simply not worth the cost at the moment with the flakey camera, phantom touches & the relative lack of 5G coverage (I'm in West London so don't get 5G unless at work)
I phoned them this morning and they told me that the handset can be returned only IF has been pre-ordered. If bought in-store while it was in stock (test in store for them), then there is no 14/30 days return policy. Who did you buy it? Pre-order or store?

Mine was a pre-order, but also via their website, which means they have to honour the 14 days distance selling rules, even on an upgrade
If you're desperate to return, just say you are unhappy with the coverage. The store will then return it for you.
The fact that their is no dual SIM support is ridiculous. Battery life has been ok-ish for me, not great but not the worst I've seen. I missed the part on the EE website where it said "USB type-c headphones included" I might complain about that too. But for me, it's just the lack of clarity as to whether we can flash the latest firmware version from the OnePlus website as no sod knows who actually supports the device...EE or OnePlus...

At the end the situation got dramatically better switching to Nova Launcher. Unfortunately I don't want to root to drill down further but for now it is ok.
Hope that in future releases they fix its launcher.
i not had any issues with the 5g version apart from the general 7 Pro issues of ghost touch
only other issue I have is OnePlus alarm clock does not ring so have to use google clock

The no dual sim is due to X50, you may have noticed every Qualcomm 5G device is single sim. It was exactly the same when 4G launched.

yup people dont read up and then complain
nothing to do with EE or OnePlus.
What OP could have done is use google's esim capability.
It worked on Pixel 2 on EE.

Sadly they couldn't have done that on the 5G model either. No dual sim is a technical limitation of Qualcomms first gen 5G modems.

esim is not same as dual sim
pixel 2 xl is single sim phone but supports esim so you can load a business number as a ESIM and switch in OS to other sim.

Sorry missed the point of your original post. Yes OnePlus could have chosen that option, although I don't believe there's much demand for a non DSDS solution. Might as well just swap physical sims in such circumstances.
Re dual sim- is it something that a dual sim adapter can fix? Or does this mean the hardware itself does not support dual sim? Could replacing ee-locked firmware with unlocked firmware fix it?

Hey, I pre-ordered as well but i cant find where on the website it mentioned the usb-c headphones, could you share the link please?
Also, my battery life seems fine to be honest, however, my internet simply does not work. It is constantly disconnecting and i dont know if anybody else is also experiencing this problem.
so just to confirm the phone does not have dual sim ability when purchased on EE?
I thought all oneplus devices were unlocked and came with the ability to use 2 sims.
The last oneplus phone i purchased i got from O2 and this was dual sim and unlocked.
can someone please clarify

Hi there,
I've read through the various threads but I don't see my basic question answered: if I buy the T-mobile US version 8T (direct from OnePlus) can I make it like the unlocked international version? I have flashed ROMS before, tinkered with modem files, etc. but I don't want to go to far down that rabbit hole. I really just want the unlocked version from OnePlus but they are out of stock. I want to be able to use this phone outside of the US with local carriers, and want 2 sim slots.
I'm in this situation because I just smashed my unlocked international version 7 Pro and have a few months left on Mint Mobile in the US, and would like to continue with them anyway. Alternatively, I could get a refurbished 7 Pro from Amazon for around the same price. Advice?
Many thanks!
don't mean to sidetrack too far, but can the t-mobile US version work with verizon?

I am on same situation but as I understand getting T-mobile version is not good idea there is no good method to switch it global firmware it has a lot of issues. I clicked notify me button in Oneplus website and hope they will get it back stock soon.

Thanks for that tip.
I just noticed an eBay listing that describes the SIM unlock as a very simple process. This seem to contradict what I read in a thread on here about having to be on the T-Mobile network for some length of time, etc.
Here's the listing and they claim you can SIM unlock the T-mobile variant by the simple process quoted below. Is this true?
How to Unlock (Network unlock) this Mobile:
· Connect you phone to WIFI
· Go to Settings
· Go to WIFI & Network
· Go to SIM & Network Setting
· Go to Network Unlock.
· Click and then go to Permanent Unlock.
· It will take some time and will give you confirmation message.
· Sometimes Unlocking Server is Busy or there is some connection problem, then try again.
· It will give you confirmation message once Unlocking is done.
· Restart the devise

Yes, that's what I want to know too! The process says, "connect to wi-fi"... so... maybe??
When I called oneplus support they told me it need to be used with t-mobile line at least 40 days than can unlock. But not sure if they are right. We need someone who is in US and can get it and test at least if it will not work can return back.
You could try contacting fcc since you would buy the phone out right and not owe on it I had to do that for my n10 I was supposed to have phone on service for 6 months I think but got it unlocked within a week from when I contacted fcc
But from another side we pay full price in oneplus store so T-mobile should unlock it right away. Because this is not contract phone with payments.
I purchased a T-Mobile 8T from OnePlus and it arrived about a week ago. I used the phone for a few days while I attempted to get T-Mobile to unlock the device. I went through 3 call center reps and one in-store rep, and all of them said that because I purchased the device from OnePlus and not from T-Mobile directly, that they do not have any record of the IMEI being in their system and that there is nothing they can do to unlock it. They told me to contact OnePlus to get it unlocked, who then told me that T-Mobile is the only one who can unlock the device and that it will take 45 days before T-Mobile will be able to do so.
Returning the device today. It's a shame, because I really do like the device (despite the fact that the camera is significantly worse than my 3T).

Any chance you can try or have tried the process suggested by the eBay vendor? (in post #4 in this thread)?

Yes I tried this many times over the last few days, did not work for me. The result says the device is not eligible for unlock, then below returns a server error.

Sorry to hear that. But I'm glad to hear your experience because I was about to buy directly from OnePlus since I have a $30 off coupon, which brings the price down to $320 at the moment.
The eBay vendor insists that their process works and will accept a return if not... I wonder if there's any reason that a phone from that vendor would work, but a phone from OnePlus directly would not...?

I think it will work only if you do it right out of the box without putting in T-Mobile sim card.

If the eBay vendor has opened and activated the device with a T-Mobile SIM card for >40 days, it may actually work in that case, I'm not sure. It could also depend on whether the eBay vendor bought the device from T-Mobile rather than OnePlus. But this has been my experience with a brand-new device from OnePlus.

Judging from my conversations with T-Mobile, this matters, because if they were purchased from T-Mobile then they should have the IMEI in their database.

I assume that from the eBay vendor who says their boxes sealed, so logically they never had T-Mobile card inserted. Also I saw some post in oneplus forum that guy used to have unlocked 8T which worked with other carrier when he inserted T-Mobile card phone get locked to T-Mobile.
Also I saw this thread it is about OP 8 but they have same situation.

I want to get an 8T but I don't want t mobile cancer, I also don't want refurbished drama. So my only choice is a brand new t mobile phone from the site, I'd like to root the phone and I want t mobile wiped from the device.
Also curious, is there any downside to the tmo version?

Well that's great, cuz it is pretty cheap right now from OnePlus!
Is there anything I should look out for during the conversion? Or is it pretty smooth sailing?

$349 + tax & free shipping. They quote 2 day delivery but it's actually next day (weekends don't count though).
I took to Metro- activated over the phone for free using Metro SIM from previous phone instead of included T-Mo SIM.
No problems whatsoever except for some signal issues first couple days. CS fix:
Reset network \ power off \ remove sim 45 seconds.
Android 12 update is almost here. I think I'll wait on it before rooting, etc.
Best phone of any brand out there for the money, OP pro 8,9,10 included. Last great OP before merger clouded things.
So the screen 6.55" not 6.78, ram lppdr4 not 5...big deal.
No audio jack, SD, wireless charging, QHD? Don't really need them at only $300.
UFS 3.1, 256&12gb, 120hz, 65w, & Android 12+Lineage way more than make up.
And way better while cheaper than new & upcoming Nords.
Good luck.

Yes 100% agree with you ) phone made in 2020 still powerful and the best for this price range. I can't wait mine to reach to me I am not in US, so already asked TMO to unlock it for me, once I receive it.
So I need to unlock the radio before I convert to three north American software right?

Yes because if you convert without unlocking it will remain locked and you can not unlock even if TMO will unlock phone for you, because the unlock phone option is only available on TMO version of OOS11.
