I'm guessing that there is no way to do this, but I want to restore some deleted sms messages. I have a missing month of SMS text messages and I am hoping that they might still be located in the sms database wherever that might be.
1. Does anyone know where the sms database is located on the charge?
2. Has anyone ever tried to open it (I assume it is a *.db)?
Thanks in advance!
Titanium Backup can back it up so you can check that out.
Edit: I mean titanium Backup can back up and restore sms.

I found this. How-to-Recover-Deleted-Text-Messages-from-an-Android-SIM-Card
Otherwise it looks like it can't be done. I found this by googling it. Get SMS Backup and Restore for future backups. I use it.

That would work except our sim cards don't store texts.

do most people restore system info and all apps of try start fresh and keep only best apps. also do most apps recharge you every month. the lady at att said charge me ninety a month but i can't believe ever bought that many and it shows my sister going over data but claim its Her number gets extra charges. seem right?

No usually not a good idea to restorr system data. Also no unless you sign up for a monthly subscription. You are only charged one time for an app
i knew that. what about contacts or passwords. dont restore anything no system data? . i knew lady told it wrong. no way apps
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Never restore system data.
And as stated, you only get charged one time for apps.

You should be using Google for your contacts or making backups in the contacts app.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777
You also have the option of exporting your contacts to the sd card.
what about installing other phones or sms programs. do keep originals or best one and replace others
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
What do u mean by installing other phones? And when you download apps u can keep the origionals.
Backup up apps is no problem, but when it's time to restore, is there any way to have it auto-restore everything? The way I did it now was I started the batch restore, but had to press install-done over and over again for each app. Is there any easier way to auto-restore?

Did you purchase program? also if you did you need to download the purchase before running if you wiped data
I'm using the free version from the market. I'm guessing the auto-restore a feature of the paid version?

yep you need to purchase
it is well worth it, there are more features with paid program that you will love if your going to be flashing roms

done. syncing w/ dropbox now
Can also consider app2zip
It creates a flash able zip file of all your apps, no data though
Do you run any risk restoring apps and data or are you better off restoring just the apps? I thought I read somewhere it can get buggy restoring the data

If it's just app data, usually no problem
The problem is restoring system data
I like to be safe so that's why I opt for app2zip
I use Go Backup. In my opinion, it's much more intuitive, cleaner, and better looking than titanium. Plus, it's free

that app doesn't support backup on external sd card Fail!!
Paid titanium gives great support. I bought it direct from dev and it's a powerhouse. Does everything and more than I need.

Buying Titanium was one of the best purchases I ever made for my devices. Well worth the price.
I love the "sync to dropbox". Didn't play around with it more to find out what else it does but that syncing makes it well worth the price.

Google for contacts, backup to Gmail for texts, mms, and call logs.

you can try using "SMS Backup & Restore" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&hl=en) to back up your SMS. I've been using this and it's been doing the job so far.
ok thanks all
Just got my N5, and aside from unlocking and whatnot that I'm doing right now, I quickly noticed no SMS app like in 4.2/4.3
Is hangouts now the substitute? If that's the case, then that blows. Ideally I wanted to use titanium to restore all of my SMS messages from my galaxy nexus.
Damn....
Hangouts is the substitute, however, check the themes and apps section, someone posted a functional AOSP messaging app. I don't know if I recommend restoring from your GN though, but that's entirely up to you.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yeah, everything is getting integrated with Hangouts. It blows losing the old messages (I had some saved for years on there), but Hangouts is actually pretty nice.
Ya, I'm sure its killer and I don't mind change, but my wife is a little different. I don't think she'll like losing all of those txt/mms messages. I bought two nexus 5's and although I'll be ok with losing my sms's, I can't see her feeling the same opinion. lol
just install hangouts on your gnex. it'll pick up all of your sms's. then backup hangouts and restore it on your n5. I did that exact process on my n4
Sent from my Nexus 5
I used Ritesh Sahu's SMS Backup Restore app today from Gnex stock messaging to Hangouts on N5. Worked great, just had to follow the messages about setting the default app.

Just out of curiosity. Why do you need texts from years a go? What's so important about them.

I guess nothing. So long as I can extract the mms's which I know there are apps out there I guess that's all that matters. Maybe I'll just tell her to suck it up so I can save myself some work eh.
so looks like VZW has left out or over looked (not like they didnt take their time on this update) to include the required MmsService.apk
Without this some, if not a lot of third party SMS apps will not send MMS, Google's hangout and Google's messenger app for example.
By installing this, flash it, extract it, or just install the APK. (if you dont have root this is the only way) This WILL fix the issue

This is almost PSA worthy....
I bet VZW issues a small OTA to fix this...
I am using it on Tmo - Installed it as an APK and tried sending MMS with Hangouts, native HTC app and Textra all with no success

I hope they also provide a hot fix for SMS notification preview. Drives me nuts that I have to open messaging app to see who texted :-/

Previews do not work for the stock HTC app. No notification card or even a preview in the status bar like on KK with HTC one.

There are so many issues with it. Like the way it handles group messages. Ive started using google messenger since going to the one m8

Believe me...I do too, however with the stock sms app if a group message come in, clicking the notification take you to the individual sms thread for the person that sent the text, not the group chat, which in of itself was enough to drive me crazy.

From my understanding LP on vzw took away the ability to edit the apns which I would imagine you had to change to get all the tmo stuff working.

Oddly enough I had to set up nothing on 4.4.4, it just worked once I have it on HSPA mode instead of LTE/CDMA
I'm stock and rooted while my wife's is stock. We both upgraded to Lollipop and was/is using Textra before the upgrade and continue to use it without an issue. I've sent and received MMS without hiccups.
Are we odd ones out or is there some bug that I'm not experiencing and could possibly find a fix on my phone to share with everyone?
