I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S3. I am currently running LiquidSmooth ROM, RC7. I am not terribly experienced and I have only flashed ROMs, no kernels, but I have seen a lot of people saying that this ROM runs better with the LeanKernel. I would like to give it a shot, but I can't find any explicit directions on how to flash the kernel. Some older threads for other devices say use Odin to flash a kernel. Some say you can do it from CWM. Is it as easy as flashing a ROM in recovery or are there other steps (unzipping, renaming, etc.)? If anyone could give me or point me at some detailed directions for flashing a kernel on this phone, I would forever be in your debt.

I just got my infuse 4G yesterday and i have been trying to find the same firmware that is on the Att Samsung Galaxy S2. I have just learned how to use odin, and thats all i know how to get roms on my device.
Can anyone give me a working Samsung galaxy S2 rom that is able to be used on odin.
Currently i have
Firmware: 2.3.3
Gingerbread. UXKG3
Kernal: 2.6.35.7-I997RUXKG3-CL366622
Baseband: I997RUXKG3
I downloaded this from Rom Manager i think, the phone has a signal but it has no data.
Also everytime i try to install a rom using the ROM MANAGER the screen begins to look like a tv with a whole bunch of colors and it just reboots with no success at.
I ever got to install the 2.3.5 gingerbread for the infuse 4G but keep getting a #*999* email error and i dont know how to fix that.
Can someone point in the right direct step by step
The Infuse can't run Galaxy S2 ROM's. It can run Galaxy S (I9000/Captivate) ROM's using the Hellraiser patch and kernel. There are several ROM's to choose from in the Infuse development section of the forum, including both Infuse ROM's and Galaxy S ROM's already modified to work on the Infuse.

Ok so how about this.
Do you know where i can get a list of roms that work on Odin for the Samsung Infuse 4G, because that seems to be the only way i know how to install roms on the device.
ok to use odin means you cant flash hellraiser. that means if you dont see the firmware in this forum in a .tar you cant use it the way you are describing. basically all the odin roms here are return to stock packages(so far)
however if you flash a voodoo kernel or otherwise get cwm you can use cwm to flash any 2.3.3-2.3.5 rom in the gsm type galaxy s forums (not cdma) as long as you immediately flash the hellraiser package over it,. dont reboot the phone till after both the rom and hellraiser are both flashed!. many of these roms have heavy sgs2 theming. look especially in the captivate, vibrant and i9000 sections. do not flash anything for the i9003, epic, facinate (unless it's telus which is more like a vibrant), mezmerize or other.
At the risk of ridicule, here goes; I just changed from DX running Liberty Rom to the latest Galaxy Nexus LTE from Verizon running the latest IC. I can't seem to find a custom rom compatible with this device. I've attempted "codename android" 1.5.5 and 1.6. to no avail. I like the APEX but don't think it's compatible with my OS. Looking for a good compatible rom further customize.
Thanks!
Well, after absolutely no help from the forum, I figured it out on my own. I guess most here forget that they too were noobs at one time. I'll try to be a little more helpful than what I've received this far.
hi there i have a rooted samsung galaxy s2 epic 4g touch. im looking to put custom roms on it and i have figured out that i have to flash kernels through odin. I was wondering which is safer the EL26 or the EL29, or what is best to use. I also was wondering if i do this then flash custom roms on it how do i get it back to stock if i need to for some warranty reason ect. i mean where do i find the original kernel or does it matter, I'm on build IF27 and does that make a difference when flashing kernels or going back and forth from roms and kernels. I used to have a rooted evo whick was much easier to flash but with this new phone there is a little more work to make it work. thanks for your input!
since no one was able to help me with this problem, i figured a workaround would be to install the T-Mobile Galaxy S2 stock 4.1.2 rom on the skyrocket, which is a supported device for the ISIS system.
so is there a way i can flash the stock t989 rom on the i727?
i don't care about losing some functionality, like lte, as the flash will only be temporary. i'll switch back to i727 when i need to.
if someone can please provide me a guide on how to accomplish this, i'll really appreciate it.
thanks!

From my experience I've read some of the guide and they haven't worked out to well.
I suggest the following.
Install T989 recovery to avoid modifying settings
Do all the wipes like usual, flash T989 ROM
Flash the stock skyrocket kernel that matches the T989 rom that you're flashing.
I've had good success flashing skyrocket modem (LTE worked like usual)
The above gave me, a not perfect, but best experience, a working ROM and more importantly a working camera. Rotation fix didn't fix everything so I suggest the above.

Hi OP, I bought an i727 and started to wonder about the same thing. And I'm on T-mo. So did drago's method work for you? Thanks
i actually didn't try it out to be honest. got an S4 shortly after.
Hi there xda people,
Since all you cool people seem to be doing amazing things with your Galaxy phones, I bet this is an easy question for you.
Quick question: Since I have upgraded my SCH-I535 to Android 4.4.2 am I good to use heimdall to flash (if that is even the right word) ClockworkMod recovery on there. And then use ClockworkMod recovery to install CyanogenMod?
Ok here are the details:
I am trying to put CyanogenMod on my Samsung Galaxy SIII (Verizon) Model SCH-I535. Never done this before but I am not afraid of the command line and I am running Ubuntu on my desktop.
I have been diligently reading through the instructions on the CyanogenMod site because I cannot afford to brick my phone and I am a little confused. Please set me straight.
A few versions back CM unified all Galaxy S III variants into one (d2lte). Instructions for 2dlte say
"Warning: The d2vzw variant cannot follow these installation instructions. For this variant, reference the device-specific installation instructions"
But when I go to the instructions for d2vzw it says:
"you must be a 4.2.2 or older build or this will not work"
According to the specs in "About Phone" I am on 4.4.2
So do you all use heimdall to put a custom recovery on the SCH-I535? If so will ClockworkMod do the trick?
If so what variant of CyanogenMod do I install? d2vzw or d2lte?
And finally, which version number of CM should I use to make sure all the bells and whistles work? CM10, CM11?
There is a similar question to this one on the CyanogenMod forums and no one has answered it.
Thanks to anyone that can give me some reliable advice!

Your on a locked bootloader. You cannot run any custom roms. Reverting back to a previous version of Android is no longer an option. The only choice or even chance you have at this point is installing safestrap and running one of the few locked bootloader roms that are available
Sent from my Cataclysm Nexus 5
Thanks!
Hey thanks for the heads up! I would have totally bricked my phone. As I have been searching more I pieced together the fact that for the SCH-i535 if you took the android 4.3 update you got the locked boot loader. Ah well, I guess I will have to spring for a phone that isn't so locked down.

Keep your eye on Craigslist for an S3 that isn't locked down. Or stick with what you have and pop on Superlite. It's stock, but at least it's debloated. Good luck!
