problem viewing avi via microSD? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I'm very new to Asus and Google OS but not new to the tech scene. I wanted to watch avi movies on my transformer so I loaded a few tv episodes onto a microSD (generic, 32gb class 4) but not all the files will play. I'm using MxPlayer and DicePlayer and neither are doing the trick. I've also tried MoboPlayer, BSPlayer and Rockplayer. None of these will handle all the avi files. Only selective files will play.
The plot thickens. I understand avi's can have a wide assortment of codecs but for one tv show (Friends) I personally ripped all the episodes myself from a DVD collection using Handbrake, with the same settings for all episodes (which now I forget because it's been so long). SOME of these episodes play perfectly without a hitch while others won't load at all.
Can anyone advise on troubleshooting? Could it be there generic microSD card? Do I need to download additional codecs from the internet or search other media players?
Thanks in advance!!

It could be that some of them didn't copy over correctly. Check the file size of each episode to see if it matches on your computer ad the SD card. If it doesn't, that's your problem. If they do match, try playing them from the SD on your computer. If they don't play right, delete and copy them back over (or re-rip). If they all play fine, find someone who knows this better than I do. Oh, and MX will tell you the codec under Tools->Properties->More when you're watching them.

[Q] Amazon Movie help

I recently bought an eee pad transformer hoping to use it to watch movies on trips with the dock. However after buying a movie on amazon, and transferring it to a microsd, i found that it won't play on the eee pad. Is there anything I can do to make it compatible, or any other options for playing movies on the eee pad?
I would really appreciate any help.
look in the android market for movie players, and try to find one compatible with the format your movie is in.
what's format about the amazon movie?
I'm not completely sure about this but I don't think you can play media from your microsd card since that is a feature of android 3.2. Just transfer the movie to the transformer's internal memory and it should work. If it's not in the right format, check out moboplayer, it supports a large variety of formats
It's likely a DRM issue - amazon adds drm to their movie files to ensure you do in fact own that file before you can play it - thats why you need to use their client to download them...

This is correct.
Also, note about above that you can play content from the SD card prior to 3.2.

What a useless response
OP: I use rockplayer lite. It plays every .avi file I throw at it.
MX Video player is pretty sweet and free.
I like that you can pinch zoom vids while playing
This was one of the posts that came up under search. I transferred several movies to the sd card from my computer. I was able to watch them at one point with a movie player and now can not access or see any movies on the sd card. I put the sd card back in my computer and see the movies in the folder.

1.When you put your SDcard back in your device, make sure you click mount SDcard in your settings menu.
2. Along with the above suggestion, before you drop your card in the Xoomy, (find a converter, I lke "audials tunebite"it's pretty fast) Just convert them to mp4 and you can view them in the default player, and any other player for that matter- and it is all good!
As always, if this was helpful - Give Thanks!
I use mobo player free in the market. Best there is imho.

I had the same thing happen to me. I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out what happened to my files. I also removed the sd card from the Xoom but that didn't bring them back. I had to unmount/mount the sd card in settings before it would work.
Also, DVD Catalyst 4 is an awesome program that will convert your movies into a Xoom high quality format. I ripped several movies yesterday and it was easy and works great AND the movies look awesome on the Xoom.
Another vote for MX player. Plays .avi, .mkv, .mp4 supports hardwre and software encoding. Touch (swipe) controls for volume, brightness, scroll back and forward. all-around great player. and FREE

What to do with my music library

I recently bought a tf700 32gb. I have a roughly 25 gb music collection and a couple movies I want to put on my infinity from my old laptop. I have all of the media saved on a 32gb sd card, the problem is that the stock music and video players don't like some of the file types ( it won't play. WMA music or .mkv or .mp4 movies). What would all of you recommend as far as players that handle more file types or ways to convert the files?

I can recommend BSPlayer.
BSPlayer is what I use too, seems to play everything under the sun...
BS player won't do it. Sometimes it'll play about a second of the movies before crashing, mostly it just t fails to open the files. Could it be that the files are too large? All of them are larger than two and a half gb's. I'm pretty sure my card is formatted correctly because i can play a 700 mb .avi video from it.
*player (still getting used to this keyboard)

I have not had any issues in playing movies in excess of 4 GB with BSPlayer

PowerAmp for audio. DICE player for video.
I have the free version of the app, could that cause the problem?
BS player has played everything i threw at it. Im watching n 11gb 1080p blu ray mkv of Avengers right now, with no issues.

I would copy some media files to the internal storage and try it again, this would rule out sd card issues...
While I'm at it, can I ask how your sdcards are formatted, or where the media your playing is saved?

Sandisk 64 microsd, straight out of box, mkv, vob, avi, mpeg m4v files have been played via bsplayer.
Have played files from micro sd, internal storage, and smb share.

I haven't had any issues with it. Granted I have only played mkv (with DTS audio) on it, either from local storage or streaming from a Twonky server. It can't be the file size, the movies I played were 10+ GB.
Ok, so i wasn't specific enough before, I had my music and movies on a 32 microSD drive, mounted to the tablet. I tried putting it into an adapter and using it with the keyboard dock. Now everything is working exactly like i should be. I took the files from my laptop with the card and adapter combo too, but i dont know if that has anything to do with this solution working. This is different from the original subject, but does anyone know why this might be, or how I could get it to work with just the microSD?
And for the record, Im liking BSPlayer for movies, and Player Pro for music.

Copy avi files to tf700t

Hello.
I tried to look this up but I cannot find an answer. This is my problem:
I do not have a dock. I connect USB to my PC. I try to copy an avi file to the tabled SD. I get a warning that the avi file will not play once copied.... and yes, it does not play.
I share a folder on my PC and I connect using the same program (Archos) on the tablet to the share. The same avi file plays no problem over wifi. I try to copy over wifi from PC to tablet, same problem.
I tried both the SD and the internal memory.
I took the SD out and used it with a data writer on the PC.
One time, a few months ago, but I do not remember what I did, I was successful. Those 3 movies are on the SD card and they play, so it should not be the SD card.
If anybody has any idea, I would much appreciate. Thank you.
I've played avi videos with BSplayer free without any issues. I also use AirDroid to transfer files from my computer to my tablet.
I'm it familiar with the software you are using but perhaps it's time to try something different

I am sure that the tf700 can handle avi files easily. Have you tried the following players (available for free on Google Play Store): Dice Player, MX Player, BS Player? All of these video players can handle almost anything.

Thanks for responding. Considering that I can play anything with the same player, on the tablet, from a share on the PC, I think the player has nothing to do with it. Also, the message that it will not play is given by Windows explorer, which should not know what player I am going to use.
What are you guys using to copy the files from PC to tablet? Windows Explorer or something else?
Thank you.

I seriously believe that there is something wrong with your Windows driver for the tablet. I just simply follow a very standard procedure:
1. Connect the tablet to a PC with Windows Vista or later (which fully support MTP) using the USB cable.
2. Navigate to the tablet's internal storage using Windows Explorer and paste the videos you want to play. The warning saying that your device may not be able to play the files is really irrelevant, you can ignore it and proceed to copy. The reason for that warning is because MTP assumes that your tablet cannot play avi files, and all Android devices using MTP will have this annoying alert.
3. Use the player suggested in previous posts to play. I must disagree with you regarding the role of players, especially when certain players have better support for Tegra 3 SoCs than others, hence the need for different video players. More importantly, avi is just a container, the important thing is the codec being used (h.264, MPEG-4, etc...). For example, a h.264 high profile video at 40 Mbps in an mp4 container is unplayable on my HTC Sensation even though mp4 is officially supported by my phone.
In all seriousness, it should be as simple as that. If it still doesn't work, you should try using a different Windows machine.
I get that message for literaly everything I copy to my TF700 and my SGS3 through Windows Explorer: .avi, .jpg, .bmp, .png, .mp4, .mp3, .srt, .doc, .txt, .wmv....
I use MXplayer (primary), BSplayer(secondary) and Diceplayer(tertiary) : They all play it fine. You get that error message in Windows because Android's stock player doesn't recognise the file when it's placed in the file manager. (duh, it's incomplete during transfer). Just hit 'yes to all'.
Try playing it with another app. Frankly other videoplayers are also far more advanced than the rather crappy stock app. Those three ^ play everything.

[Q] Sound of movie from SD card gets asynchron after one minute

Hi,
for my holidays I copied some records from my receiver to the tablet. All the movies are from ARD HD and come in ts format.
I tried to watch the movies with different players (MX-Player, ...), but with each player the same result:
after around one minute the sound becomes asynchron and so I couldn´t watch the movie...
Is the tablet to slow for such records? Does it help to install a faster ROM (I´m using the original ROM).
The files are on my Class 10 SD card. I couldn´t test it on local memory, because I have not enough space.
Somebody has/had similar problems?
Cheers!
I tried some more apps and with VLC the movie and sound works like expected! But I recognized a very little jerking in the video...
I also installed the ARM 7 Neo(?) codecs for MX Player and now it works with the MX Player too.
But I'm also think about installing a new faster Image...
