[Q] Browser set as default for web use, can't change - HTC One S

Stock, rooted, android 4.0.4, can't clear the Browser from being the default. Went into apps manager, cleared defaults but Browser still opens by default for most apps. Only using Google search, does it let me choose from Browser or Chrome.
Do I have to change permissions somewhere? I never had this problem on custom ROMs before and I'm not ready to flash because I'm actually okay with the current stock experience.
Any recommendations?

Did you try app associations in settings?

Personally I use Dolphin and first thing I do is remove stock browser. Problem solved.

I just realized this is an option. Thanks for the info. I still prefer having the dialogue box pop up and choosing between browser options but this is definitely a step in a better direction. Thanks!

What do you mean stop? I'm used to using task manager because it has everything i need to manager my apps in one spot. If you can't answer, please don't reply. And thank you Bassie

If your talking about the one built into the stock roms it is not compatible with anything other than stock. Plus that app has some major memory leaks and is not efficient.
If you are talking about any other task manager just install it. However I recommend just using the built in android one. press settings then manage apps from the home screen. The others are becoming more and more out-dated.

Just be your own task manager. In ROM control you'll find a "Long Press to Kill App". Enable it then when you exit an app you want dead just long press the back button.

Chrome Browser

Does anybody know why the Chrome Browser isn't compatible with our phone. I am on CM7, could that possibly be why it isn't?

Yes Chrome is ICS compatible and cm7 is GB just flash cm9 and you'll be good

I'd recommend you don't use chrome. For me it was very laggy. The stock browser from cm9 is a lot better

I just uninstalled it.
It rebooted my phone 2 times because it froze loading a page. The stock browser is just fine.
That's funny, it's been really great for me. It's smoother and faster than the stock browser for me on AOKP. I never had a crash with it yet. The syncing feature with chrome on my desktop is also very convenient.

I used it on CM9, AKOP, and PA and well really was not all that impressed. It served OK as a browser but things like not being Flash compatible was it's undoing that lead me to uninstall it.

You know adobe is stopping support for mobile flash in august right?
I heard something about that, let's hope they change their minds. Because that would mean the end of Kongregat games and other mobile flash games.

Wait, I believe you can change the user agent. It's in the menu when you select "request desktop site"
It has no devoted "desktop" mode. you can select load desktop but only for that tab.

There is, for a mobile software vendor, no point in Flash anymore
http://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/2011/11/flash-focus.html
http://blogs.adobe.com/flashplayer/2012/06/flash-player-and-android-update.html
There will be no certified implementations of Flash Player for Android 4.1.
Beginning August 15th we will use the configuration settings in the Google Play Store to limit continued access to Flash Player updates to only those devices that have Flash Player already installed. Devices that do not have Flash Player already installed are increasingly likely to be incompatible with Flash Player and will no longer be able to install it from the Google Play Store after August 15th.

[Q] Can't change ringtone - S2 hd lte - bell

Hi, the problem I've been having is that I cannot change my ringtone at all; I've tried installing mp3 files into the ringtone folder, I've tried using apps to change the ringtone but it's been to no avail; for some strange reason it stays on 'Whistle' no matter how many times I change it... the phone has been rooted, and is running CM10 - and has been flashed through zip files on my sdcard. The problem didn't happen after I rooted, it's always been this way.
You try changing it within the messaging app/gmail/talk app, or just in the settings? What rom you on? Have you changed permissions on the ring tones you added?

I'm currently in the 'talk' app, which linked me to a webpage/help page... checking now; and though no change. Still uses the 'Whistle' notification.
Go into a root explorer app and see if your permissions look like this...

\my apologies, didn't answer the earlier questions fully. I'm using CM10 - I've tried changing it under settings/sound/default notification(phone ringtone). Not sure how to grant it permission...

Permissions look like that, yes.
Download ES file explorer from play store. Open it. Press soft menu button. Press settings. Scroll to root settings. Make sure all boxes are checked and allow super user rights. Back out to files. Press the button on the top row with an up arrow and a folder (or something like that). Scroll to system folder->media -> audio-> notifications->scroll to tone you want and long press it till a menu pops up->scroll to properties ->select permissions box. Should look like my screen shot.

Hmmm... I am stumped then man. Sorry, maybe a bad flash. You could try just wiping cache and dalvik and flashing rom over top of itself in case something went wrong in the first flash.

This has definitely spurred my curiosity. I've not seen anything like it before. You say in your 1st post that this was going on when you were on stock rom too? If so, it sounds like a buggy phone. Maybe try going back to stock, un root and try for a warranty replacement.

Or maybe going back to complete stock then doing the rooting process and flashing the rom again.....that sumtimes solves weird issues.

Replacing the stock browser???

Is there a way to replace the stock browser with chrome as the default browser???
Sent from my GT-N8013 using xda premium
Yes. After installing chrome, go to an app that requires you to click on a url, like xda or YouTube. You'll see a pop up window saying "complete action using". Select "use by default for this action" then click on the icon for chrome.
To remove an app that is currently the default. Just go to settings> application manager and select the app. At the bottom right, select "clear defaults".

Just a little point. Chrome does not support Flash. So any websites that need you to run Flash, they won't work.

I am on my tablet using a wifi on my phone connection so I can't watch the video. I am assuming this video is how to load Flash onto Jelly Bean as Flash is not supported.
This is correct but even if you have flash on Jelly Bean Chrome is still incompatable. I tried it on my mates Nexus 7 with Chrome and Jelly Bean.
I use Dolphin Browser as that supports Flash.

[APP] New Jelly Bean Clock app 4.2

Thanks to jujuburi
Found this here
All functions appear to work, Notification pull-down was causing it to crash, however, backing-up and removing the original clock from /system/app and rebooting has EVERYTHING working as it should!
I installed this manually by moving it into /system/app with Root Explorer and changing permissions to rw-r--r--
You might be more comfortable using the flashable zip from the original thread!?

Did you re-boot, that should get rid of the f/c
Reboot doesn't help :/
That's surprising, it may be to do with CM10, I have this running without problem on Blackbean-6 .
Did you definitely remove DeskClock.apk?
Yeah, but I found this app in play store and it's great, i actually prefer it over the 4.2 one

Have you tried going to settings>apps and clearing the cache & data from 'Clock' then reboot, give that a go if not!
