Safe Mode One X - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

So I was fooling around with my phone last night and decided to undervolt to 75mv. It was going good until it suddenly restarted. But while it was rebooting I decided to short out all five of the dock pins on the back of the phone. When I did my phone gave a long vibrate (maybe 5 seconds) and when it booted up a large caption at the bottom of the screen said "Safe Mode" and all my user apps had disappeared. Just the apps that are hard built into venom remained and all my setting had been reset to stock. Rebooted again and it started up in normal mode but I had to go change all my settings back to what I had them. Never heard anything about safe mode on these forums so I decided to run it by y'all.

Yea HTC sent me an email awhile back telling me the way to get into safe mode. I'm sure they know about it here. Not sure if they do but probably. If you guys don't I'll post that email I got

Holding vol + during boot does the same. Its for diagnosing issues. Determines if its a 3rd party app causing an issue or not
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

Holding volume down rocker during the white HTC logo screen will put you into Safe Mode. Similar to bootloader, except if you hold vol down rocker before the white HTC logo screen, you go into bootloader. HOlding vol down rocker during logo screen start Safe Mode.
As mentioned, it just starts the phone with no 3rd party apps loaded. Its one of the first thing HTC support will tell you to do if you contact them on an issue/bug.

BE CAREFUL ABOUT PRESSING POWER + VOLUME UP. I have heard it sends it to Qualcomms download mode with no way of getting back. Your phone essentially gets bricked. I don't know if that issue still remains or if that's something fixable today but I thought I'd just leave this warning.

No, I meant vol +. The issue mentioned does not apply to the Evita one x

It's your power button.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873129
mine will do that too just randomly shut of f and go into the Samsung loop, just don't give up, eventually u will be able to get into download mode (just like pony express describes above) if you keep at it.
Switch up which buttons you hold, this works for me , sometimes it will take up to 20 attempts. Dont give up.
The last package I installed was called "unbrick with root " for Odin seems to be more stable than all the others. It has 3 files in the zip one for pit, a pda, and a third for phone. Load them all into Odin, once you get into download mode. So far so good on my infuse. On ly time will tell

Alright thanks, I found out what download mode was, and I found that the problem was just that the power button was a little dirty
I opened up my phone and cleaned out the internals near the power button. Works like a charm.
Hey homie, I had that same problem Coue weeks a go. I brought it to two different repair guys, one said it was the board that's fried, and the other said it was a software issue. I brought it back home and it turned out to be the power button. I had to take my phone apart, bought an air spray can and clean out the power button area. Now its working like brand new.

I also got the same news from the repair guy. I used air spray on the inside and finally got into my phone. It's still touchy, but i just give it a good smack against the coffee table :/ So i'm downloading an app so I can shut off the screen with out using the power button.

HOX Stuck at boot "One" screen, Haven't Flashed Lately

I was on the phone earlier for a fair bit, when I hung up I noticed the battery at 4%. Got home little bit later and when I checked my phone again it was off, I hit the power button so it began to power on, and I them plugged it into AC charger right away while booting up. A couple of minutes later and I noticed it was still on the "One" boot screen (on a sense ROM at the moment, ViperXL 2.1.1). Tried holding power to reboot and it did the same thing.
Figured I leave it plugged in for a little bit, maybe battery was just really low. After about 30 minutes or so it was plugged in, still on the same screen (couldn't power it off it would just reboot). Tried to reboot again, and got stuck on the same screen. This time however I noticed the phone was quite hot, though it seems to be cooling down slightly since I've unplugged it, but not 100% sure.
What could be the issue/any ideas? I haven't flashed anything in over a week, last being ViperXL 2.1.1 and BeastMode Kernel 3.0. First time dealing with potential boot issues as I am always very careful when flashing. Any help is appreciated!
Try reading threads before you post. You may have read a thread that said don't post questions in General. There is a Q&A forum for this.
Anyways, try erasing the caches and rebooting.

Yeah I was thinking this might not be the right place but wasn't totally sure, I apologize.
I was having trouble getting it to boot into the bootloader as well, forgot to mention that originally, holding volume down and power wasn't working. However after not sure how many attempts I did get it somehow. Perhaps I was holding the buttons down incorrectly, I think I let go of power early the time it worked? Not sure. After a straight system reboot from recovery did not work, I tried wiping cache's as you said and it booted fine! Much thanks.
Again apologies from rushing to make a thread, just got kind of frustrated with not being able to boot into even the bootloader or just power it down for awhile, for seemingly no reason. Someone can delete this thread if they'd like. Thank you though!
maybe your phone doesnt like the overclock. not all phones can handle high overclocks and some cant work with ANY overclock. i would try letting the phone charge and flashing the stock boot.img

Almost always a matter of pilot error (as long as you have a charge light coming on, it should go to hboot no problem). Correct way is to hold vol down rocker, don't let it go, then press the power button for 3 seconds or so. Release the power button (but keep holding vol down). Don't let go of vol down until the hboot screen comes up.
If the screen is on, you can do the same as above, with the only change being: holding the power button down for 5 seconds or so until the capacitive buttons flash, then release the power button.

Future reference to boot into.downloader...
-lock screen like you would be putting phone in pocket

-let go of POWER BUTTON ONLY right after screen goes off and continue holding vol down.

Sorry to resurrect a slightly old thread, but was there any solution to this? My phone just died last night and won't start back up. It just stays stuck on the loading screen. I went into recovery and deleted the caches just in case, but it hasn't fixed anything. I have a nandroid backup from a weeks ago that I can just if I have to, but I'd prefer not to since I'd lose the app data.
Any ideas?

[Q] Sidekick 4g Bootloop Please Help!!!

I am not rooted on this phone I am on stock 100% I have done nothing with this phone since purchased.. I did not try to install anything on this phone that could have caused this. But yesterday it just started on this bootloop. The screen just shows the T-mobile sidekick 4g logo then to black and over and over .... I have pulled the battery put it back in and it immediately bootloops. I don't even have to power on . It even bootloops with the charger plugged in the battery symbol bootloops. I tried to put the device into bootloader (pwr vol up/dwn) to do a factory reset. but the bootloader screen just flashes on for a second and then it goes right back into the bootloop.
It appears as if this is bricked but how is that possible on a stock device? I called t-mobile and they could not help. All they wanted to do is sell me a new phone.

@karose465 How old is the phone? If less than a year (doubtful), it should still be under warranty. Or you may be eligible for upgrade pricing: Fore example, "Customers with a Classic plan (two-year contract) are eligible for our lowest upgrade price on a new phone when at least 22 months have passed since their last phone upgrade. A new two-year contract is required to take advantage of best upgrade pricing. Of course, you can always upgrade a phone at any time, regardless of how many months have passed since your contract began."
For more info on Heimdall, just Google Heimdall Android.
Anyone with a sidekick contract ends earliest next march..

I think for him and myself, the biggest problem is being unable to get the phone to stay in download mode. For some reason, the battery won't charge and the phone itself continously turns off and on when plugged in. So the charge isn't holding, therefore nothing will stay on/open.
Im having the same problem. I have searched everywere and cannot find an answer that will fix it. If anyone can please help us fix this issue.

my Sidekick 4G is very old and just now went into bootloop... i googled the word and came across this forum.
As quoted above by previous poster that a power button repair was needed... I figured that I had nothing to lose, it being so old, I smashed the crap out of the Sidekick 4G on its power button. Lo and Behold, it booted into the system successfully.
SO... if no one has any qualms about smashing the crap out of their power button... give it a shot. It worked for me.

Mines stuck in a boot loop too.
I don't know if my Sidekicks problem is related to this or not. I rooted it and flashed it over to Glorious Overdose v5 on May 22nd this year and it's been running great. At least it was until last Friday, Sep 13. I was having trouble connecting to the WiFi at my house so I rebooted the phone. When it started to come back up a female voice started saying, "VooDoo lagfix has been disabled." "Converting /data and /system partitions." "Conversion time estimated 10 minutes."
I let it do it's thing and that's all it's been doing all weekend. I can get into recovery mode, I've tried restoring the phone from my backup with no success. I've even tried running through the process of setting up GOv5 again and it says it's successful, but the phone never boots up. It just stays in the same blasted bootloop and saying the same things over and over again about VooDoo. I've checked the VooDoo logs and there is an error file for the 13th and the logs following say "conversion." Can someone point me in the right direction as to what I can do to get my phone working again? Everything I've tried to research so far hasn't worked.
v5 hold both volume button, the track button and power button. Should put you into recovery mode. If not, you will have to put phone into download mode. You do this by taking out battery, then pluging into computer. When you reinsert battery hold volume down and power, if I remember correctly, and your download screen should come up. From your cp manually unroot it. Then it should be fixed, and just reroot it. I hope this was helpful

And almost a year later I log in and see this. Your most welcome. I haven't been working on phones for awhile but if I remember right, some models can be powered on by plugging the phone into a power source and when the phone vibrates or has a sign of life unplugging the unit. Some cables don't work and sometimes doing this via a computer can power up a device. Other than that, the other more dangerous way is to short out the pins on the bottom of the unit. I don't remember the pins but you can google a charge port diagram to help. I don't recommend doing this unless you have absolutely no other choice. Incidentally, this is why a phone will power itself on when a battery is put in and no other button is touched. The port is wet and corrosion has caused a link on the power pin and believe its pin 3. A simple cleaning with 90%+ rubbing alcohol solution will fix if cleaned quick enough.

[Q] Galaxy S3 Won't Boot Up

My phone won't boot up, it will go to the Samsung Galaxy SIII screen and then turn black. I'm pretty sure this isn't a boot loop as it shuts down. I was running CM 10.1 with stock kernel prior to this happening. What I am thinking is that this is a hardware issue, but my problem is that my phone is rooted which means that the warranty was voided. I've read on some forums that I could restore the factory settings with odin, but my phone will turn off after I hit my volume up button to proceed into download mode. Does anybody have any suggestions to what I should do?
Thank you for your time!

No, when I hold the volume up, home and power button, I do get the small blue text in the upper left corner. The thing is that it powers down as the text goes away.
Make sure you hold the buttons for a couple more seconds after the blue text appears, because I always let go right away so it just powers down

Dude you press volume down not volume up. Pressing volume up, home and power buttons gets you into recovery mode while pressing volume down, home and power buttons gets you into download mode. How I know this is because it's not suppose to show a small blue text in download mode only in recovery mode. Instead you are supposed to see the android Andy and warning that you're about to install a custom OS.

I do hold the buttons after, but it does shut down even when still holding the buttons. I am almost positive it is a hardware issue, but because I am rooted, Samsung or Verizon will not look into my problem.

I was under the impression that rooting and unlocking the bootloader will void the warranty, where did you get this information from?
There are 2 warranties one from Samsung and one from Verizon. Once rooted you have voided the Verizon warranty. Samsung warranty is for one year. You should know that companies like Samsung have warranties on their products which starts the moment you have purchased them. All consumers should know about the manufacturer warranty as this has been around for a long time so go to Samsung first since you pretty much voided Verizon warranty.

I was under the impression that rooting and unlocking the bootloader will void the warranty, where did you get this information from?

Did you ever find a resolution to your problem? I think I have the same problem with my phone and Samsung is saying they wont send me a new one but they will try to fix my current one if I send it in.

I sent my phone to Josh at Mobiletechvideos.com for repair. It cost me about $65. Samsung denied me, although because you got the chance, you should send it in. Most likely it will be free of charge, but don't quote me on this. I hope you get your phone fixed! Sorry for the lack of suggestions =/.
Good luck!
Hey by chance did you guys also have issues charging the phone?

[Q] Device in bootlloop + Can't access bootloader!!! HELPPPP

My Nexus 5 is stuck on the splash screen. I have multirom installed so when i boot after the splash screen the multirom menu comes up. I select to boot the ROM but it never does. The splash screen shows up again and then the screen goes blank. When this happened I was doing nothing but just casual chatting on Whatsapp. I have been stuck many times and most of the times when multirom was installed. I always solved this by flashing factory image by booting into bootloader. But i can't even get to hold it in the bootloader. It just goes blank like the instance above. Please help!!!!!
Press and hold the power button for 20.seconds and see if it boots correctly then

I wish I could. I have written in the OP that the device doesn't stay at the bootloader. If there is any other way please guide me.
Press and hold the power button for 20, which should turn the device off.
then once its off, press and hold the power + vol up + vol down.
if you get there, flash the factory images using fastboot.

You could try the secondary bootloader, hold both vol keys + power. But it sounds to me like hardware failure and rma may be in your future.

I always thought that pressing both vol keys and power gets into secondary bootloader so I always used that, so in shot yes I was talking about the secondary bootloader in the OP. Just to be clear primary bootloader is by holding power and vol - key and plug into PC right? Even this didn't work for me. I just get a second to either go press vol up or down when the bootloader shows up. So either it shuts down or it restarts into the bootloader.

Does it stays in download mode?
Press and hold power key for 15-20 secs to turn off your phone.
Press and hold volume_up key then connect the phone to the pc. You can release the the volume_up key if you see the Download mode screen.
If it stays in download mode then follow my guide about flash stock rom with LG flashtool. Link in my signature.
Guys I guess I got it figured. I guess my power button is stuck. Well it doesn't look so physically but it sure acts that way. For example, when I get into the bootloader for a second and I either press the vol up or down key, as soon as the second is over the option on-screen (power off or restart bootloader) is selected (i.e. the power button is implemented), and the device either powers off or restarts into bootloader. So I flicked my finger on it few times, once it booted normally but then again it looped and once the charging screen was shown and then it again looped. Can anyone suggest some solution?

If your power button is sticking, then you or a service depot have to fix it. There's nothing else to be done except physically fixing it.

Since warranty is borked get a cutter, small piece of quality electrical tape ( to keep button up; TEMPORARY FIX ONLY!)) plastic Credit card and miniature Philips screwdriver and use your imagination I did it myself without any previous knowledge using this BELOW LINKED guide and my brain it's FAIRLY easy if your are careful with connectors and don't screw anything else.

Vid about power button rattle fix (usefull for dissasembly):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ego0eXYwOms
check the teardown and stuff the little strips (1-2 mm squares) of tape with trial and error like kinda sort of a O-ring under the power button the ceramic key must "float" over the edges pieces of tape this IS VERY TRICKY it can be time consuming be patient you can use different material tape but I tried cloth etc and figured out 3M electrical tape was the best due to its softness and thickness... worked for me until I got my new untampered N5 ... good luck and use a clean desk for the sake of not losing parts! And before reassembling make sure you got just enough movement to press the beforementionned power key if you don't you'll have to re-open it and each time it's like asking the devil to kick your butt!
The more you will open it the worst the backdoor WILL GET LOOSE (battery cover pins are weak 3-4 times is kinda max X you can open it before getting loose) your can order B/Whites ones from them for 25$
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Whit...ing-Battery-Door-Vibrator-OEM/1694272462.html
Link is for white backdoor black are real easy to find and RED are more than 40$ everywhere still...
Good luck to all!
