[Q] on-screen lock? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know of a way to lock the screen without having.to reach for the hardware button on the side of the device? There is an iPhone app for jail broken devices that would lock the screen with a swipe left gesture, and it spoiled me not having to move my hand around to the hardware button. A button on the home screen would be ideal, but I'd settle for a widget or a toggle as long as it worked simply.
Thanks in advance for any input.

There is an app called Screen Off & Lock. Didn't work on the old razr but haven't tried it on this one.
If it works you could also use it in conjunction with Wave Control Pro so that waving a hand over the proximity sensor will trigger Screen Off and Lock.

Works perfectly on Maxx HD even though dev says it doesn't on Motorola with stock ROM. Thank you very much.

Another way to activate lock screen

Is there a way to activate lock screen by hitting the home sense button on the screen than hitting the physical button located on the top on the phone?

Many apps in the market for this, just search lock screen.
Here, this is easier.

thanks for the reply @harlenm. I am looking for something to activate the lock screen(to unlock the phone) by using the screen sensitive buttons instead of the physical button located on top of the phone.

Sorry, thought you meant the other way around.
Do you need the lock screen? No lock will allow you to use the volume keys, but takes you straight to the home screen.

Ok when the screen is off. You would normally press the unlock button located on the top of the phone to turn the screen on right. Is there a way to turn the screen on by pressing the touch sensitive button located on the screen itself.

Not that I know of. The only alternative is to use the volume keys using the no lock program, but again, it bypasses the lock screen.
I use widgetlocker....its awesome and its worth the 2bills..
It let's you choose a custom wallpaper, lock/unlock sounds and supports custom sliders made by xda community.
Now to your question, its impossible using the capacitive buttons as the screen would always need to be on for that function..if it were a trackball or physical buttons then that would work but not on Inspire obviously.
The closest you can get with widgetlocker is it will let you wake up the screen with volume keys and then unlock the screen with the backspace button..hope that makes sense ...cheers

Like the above poster said, or use the stock froyo lockscreen(delete HTClockscreen.apk from /system/app) and you can use the menu button to unlock the phone. Still have to wake it with the power button. I don't think the buttons waking would be a good idea, it would constantly be woken up, which means the screen would be on longer plus the CPU is working more, which means more unnecessary battery drain.

I am interested in it. I'm trying out the free version (before I buy) but I notice somethings. Maybe its just me but when I watch a movie on the default player on my Evo4G, after tapping on the screen a few times, the lock disables. I can skip through the entire movie and even get out. I'm going to try it with a different player later today.
A few suggestions,
1) It would be nice if the toggle button changed (ex. inverted colors) because when I had the movie problem, I couldn't tell if it was locked or unlocked.
2) Is it possible we can change the location of the toggle button, at least like different corners because it's too close to the home button when in landscape.
One final note, when its locked, you can still drag down the notification bar. So far its looking pretty good. Let me know if I'm doing something wrong since I've only been playing with it for about 30 minutes. Thanks.
Man, this is just what I was looking for ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431037 ). Super!
I want it for e-reading in kindle or aldiko. Tested so far briefly on Galaxy Tab 8.9 (android 3.2) and an HTC Desire (2.3.3) ... Just fine so far.
I first tried Screen Tools 2, but that one messed up the use of volume buttons for page flipping in both kindle and aldiko.
it took me a while to understand some of the options, like the meaning of "auto on toggle". Also, the toggle app shortcut only works as "on switch" for me... With touch screen disabled, the toggle can't be used to deactivate.
It also took me a while to figure out how to unlock (the use of the tiny toggle button is not documented in the settings or anywhere)
EDIT: I realize now this is what's meant by onscreen button in the settings
The option to leave the edge active is also great, although I will probably opt to switch pages with volume buttons.
EDIT: swiping pages this way works well on the tablet, but is hit and miss on the phone. The edge size may need to be user selectable?
I second the idea to color code the tiny toggle.
Great work.
EDIT: I was searching (Google) for a long time using keywords like "disable touch screen" (all about turning screen off) and "disable touch sensitivity" with no results... Until I found screen tools 2, and then very accidentally this one.
---------- Post added at 01:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:25 AM ----------
Extra feature idea....
disable touch sensitivity along the edge only, keeping sensitivity on the center
Use case: I need something that allows me to hold the tablet a bit more firmly, in one hand, which means putting my thumb in the screen just a bit.

I can add the feature to block edges only, but there is an app called grip it which does just that.

How can I make this work on Galaxy S2? Original 2.3.4 Rom
I have no camera and search button. Where are the settings?
I have installed it, but when I press on it, nothing!
Please help! I need this application!
After buying hardware key support, on my Galaxy S2 the home (and power) bottons still work... even with No Touch active, ofc. Otherwise no problems on my device, also on 2.3.4 ^^.
Also, I absolutly need a popup window on trying to unblock, for inputing a code to unlock, optionaly and maybe only on the payed for version . It is way too easy for my 2 and 4 year olds to unlock otherwise.
Also, I agree, change the color on button when unlocking/locking No Touch.
I would like to be able to choose which tiles on the homescreen to lock. That would be just perfect.
Just tried it and it works nice. I just have one question before I upgrade. If I block the hardware buttons will I skill be able to unlock using a long press of the search key?
is there any chance to make this app lock the screen with long press home button? that would be universal for all android phones. no camera button in my s2. and also so the phone will not respond to any other buttons (ie power button)

[Q] Double Tap To Wake While On A Table

According to a tweet from HTC (https://twitter.com/htc/status/461511570959663104), you're supposed to be able to double tap the screen while it is sleeping in order to wake the device.
This doesn't work for me unless I do it really hard or have it in my hand. Anyone have the same experience? Any setting I need to change? Maybe it's my ROM? (Skyfall)
Are you using enough of your finger to tap it?
On mine I have to almost tap it with the full pad of the end of my finger. I can't just double-tap with the tip of my finger.
Yeah, that's never worked for me either. It seems like the sensor only gets activated once I pick it up.
Yeah someone in marketing was misinformed. Unless you're using a custom kernel, you need to move the device first to get it to wake from a tap or swipe
Thanks for the feedback. I ask because someone tweeted @ me: "Bring your unit back to the carrier you purchased it from. It's worked fine for us with no issue at all."
For me, I tap the screen once and then double tap it right after. Seems to do the job.

Settings, display and gestures, g sensor calibration. Calibrate it poorly intentionally slanted against a book or whatnot. It thinks your device is tilted when it is laying down.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
well really its like this ==> Settings/Display & gestures/Motion Launch Gestures/HELP =(look (close its really there =] ) and then under Double tap it reads "Pick up the phone in portrait orientation and double tap to wake " but if I really double tap mine while its laying flatly screen up with some force it wakes just make sure you really give it good tapping.
Other than that test to see if picking it first portrait orientation and give it a few taps and see if it wakes.
I just saw the post above mine that is a great answer/work around. I like that kind of thinking.

I was going to reply with this exact method until I saw that you did so.
This works, and resolves the issue completely. now a light double tap even turns on the screen while it is laying flat.
It's a pretty simple concept. Unlike the LG G2, this phone came with some more smarts to save battery. The G2 device is ALWAYS active to receive phone taps, thus using more battery. The M8 device only once the phone is in motion it turns on the sensor to recieve any kind of double tap, thus saving battery! Pretty nice IMO and smart. Motion control window says itself you need to pick up device then double tap to activate.
For people who want to bypass this you can:
A. Tap the phone hard while on a desk thus causing the phone to move around waking up the motion sensor to activate double tap.
B. Give the G Sensor setting a bad setting so when device is laid flat on a surface the phone thinks it's not flat thus activating the double tap feature all the time thus using more battery.
So either love the feature for what it is or don't and us more battery.
The M8 double-tap to wake requires you to pick up the phone. The double-tap motion is not enough. If you double tap it while flat on a table it may work but usually it does not or very inconsistent.. Lift it and it will always work.
What's happening is when you move or pick up the phone the proximity sensor is activated, allowing the double-tap function to work, but after a few seconds of leaving it on the table, the sensor will shut off until it is disturbed again.

Not quite. Pick it up upside down and tap - nothing will happen. Double tap to wake works only right side up in portrait - which makes a lot of Sense.
You don't want anything to wake it when it's upside down in your pocket, right?

Interesting!
Actually I notice what's also keeping the double-tap function to work is the light senor, regardless the phone's position.
The sensor is located left of the front camera; try covering it up and see if you can double-tap to wake your phone

[APP][4.1+] Knockr - Lockscreen

After seeing a lot of comparison videos of the HTC One m8 and the Galaxy S5 I realized one of the big things HTC has is their motion launch gestures. Unfortunately for HTC it is limited to doing just a few things. So since the Galaxy S5 has an OLED screen which is turned "off" when displaying black pixels, I figured I could create something like the motion launch gestures that uses minimal battery.
So I created Knockr an app that allows users with OLED Screen devices, like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Moto X, to quickly enter an app with gestures without having to turn the screen on.
Gestures include:
Double Tap: Double tap the screen to open any app you choose or unlock the screen
Swipe Up, Down, Left, Right: Users can set each Swipe to open a separate app or unlock the screen
Long Press: Long press the screen to open any app you choose or unlock the screen
Volume Up when in Landscape: Pressing the volume up button when the device is in Landscape will automatically open the camera
I am still working on improving some of the things in Knockr, but wanted to post it on here to get some feedback and suggestions to make it better.

**EDIT**
The newest update 2.1 now includes Knocks. Knocks is like LG's Knock Code. You can create multiple Knocks to unlock or open apps.

Going to give it a try with my Galaxy S4 Mini, I hope it's not too harsh on the battery. Nevertheless this application seems like a great idea, Thank you.
EDIT: Seems to work very well. Just a few things I noticed.
-The screen can turn on by a single touch to the screen (it will then display lockscreen)
-The backlight keys turn on after the app is activated once the screen is locked (the keys are only on for a few seconds on my phone anyway, no big deal)
-Is it possible to decrease the delay between when the phone is locked and when the Knockr app is loaded/active?

Only one touch and the screen is awake to show the lock pattern on Samsung S4.
What an awesome app! My only recommendation is to take away the one tap to turn on the screen, as the screen can accidentally turn on in your pocket very easily and cause unwanted battery drain.

Thanks for the feedback. It shouldn't use much battery especially if you use the power management since you probably wont have your phone turned off to often outside of your pocket during the day and if you do you can just turn it over and still get the same benefit.
I have already uploaded a new version that has removed the single tap action so there aren't any false touches registered. It also made the screen on an option to choose for any of the gestures. It also fixes a bug that cause Knockr to close when the orientation was changed after being pocketed.
Unfortunately I don't think there is a way to load Knockr any faster since I already have it setup to load as fast as possible. The problem is that I have to use a broadcast receiver to receive the screen off and the broadcast takes a little bit of time to be sent out (I'll keep looking for ways to make it faster though).
Really cool app!
Few recommendations:
1. Any way to show clock and notifications every couple of seconds? (Ex 15s)
2. Way to bypass knockr when power button is pressed.
Thanks!

mind blowing app.

it is really nice idea.
questions :
can it detect multi finger on screen off? we might get more gesture thts why only.
screen segmentation? means on some part of screen it detects then that gesture recognized.
just some ideas.
Awesome app. Just awesome. I didn't want to install a custom kernel just for this feature and now I don't have to. Working great at the moment. Power button is no use for unlocking but app is working with almost no hitch.
A suggestion for people who use this. Install screen on&off from play store and add that to nova launcher's double tap gesture to lock the screen. Now you can use double tap to both locking and unlocking.
Also, I have to swipe twice to open an app. Can't we do that with one swipe?
Edit: It opens with one swipe but it isn't always working. Needs some work.

Hey! This works very nicely! I'm having no problems so far. However, on my stock 4.4.2 Samsung Note 3 N900W8, I've noticed that if I have Multi Window on (use two apps at the same time), the multi window tab shows on the screen when Knockr becomes active. Specifically, I turn off my screen using the power button, and a second or two later the tab pops up. I don't know if this can be prevented without turning multi window off entirely, but thought I'd bring it up. Great app!

Turning off screen and lock without Power Button

Hi guys. As the title says, it would be great to not have to use the power button at all to unlock and lock the device again and again.
Now obviously to unlock it, all i have to do is touch the fingerprint scanner.
And to lock it again i have tried apps from store and though those do the job and lock the device but then phone doesn't unlock by fingerprint scanner and it just wakes up and asks for pin to unlock.
Kindly help out.
I am kinda spoiled by knock On/Off feature on LG G4 and never used the power button on that thing.

You must use finger sensor to unlock and circle to lock. No other way. Huawei don't have double click lock/unlock. Bad thing. I see to another phone.
What if you try lock widget (chinese version & I'm not sure if it includes in international or European versions)
Use fingerprint quick action
Lock widgets require admin permission to work and if you lock with widget then fingerprint scanner takes you to pin code screen instead of unlocking the device.
Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk
Juat tested with Nova Prime and configured the double tap to turn off the screen.
But that also required admin access and after turning off screen that way, fingerprint scanner brings me to pincode screen again instead of completely unlocking the device.
Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk
Double tap Mate 9 not have. Bad. Lock widget not have international version. Only circle, but you must double clock on this quick tool to lock. Mate 9 not have user friendly features like my old G2, G4 or Z11. Mate 9 have only big price. ,)
try using this software from play store. it work very well on my mate 9
Using screen lock app.
Clicking on the icon turns off the screen and lock the phone just fine.
But then when you use fingerprint to unlock, it'll take you to this screen instead.

I saw this "floating dock" on my set too, and it's come with stock ROM.
Some detail can find in this website:

I use Nova Launcher gestures together with Anywhere Launcher to allow me to turn off and lock my screen using a downward swipe from the upper left corner of the screen in any app. It's very convenient.
I'm on C636B188 and that includes the screen lock widget, so you can use that.
Originally, I thought I would prefer it to the floating dock, but after getting used to the dock I like it more because you can access it from anywhere, not just the home screen.
The "Custom Navigation Bar" app has that functionality.
You can add an extra button on the navbar to put the phone to sleep instantly and unlock your device with fingerprint sensor.
I don't know if any other app of such kind.
At least I have this Screen Lock widget directly on my phone. Fingerprint opens the lock just fine after locking it with this widget.
You can use a Nova gesture to lock the screen, but don't use Nova's Screen Lock action in the first tab. Instead, swipe to the last tab on the right ("Shortcuts"), and look for Screen Lock there.
Unfortunately, though, this no longer seems to work on Oreo. Whenever, I try to select the Screen Lock shortcut, I get a message saying 'App isn't installed.' I have a feeling it has something to do with the fact that they replaced the Floating Dock with the Navigation Dock.
i just update the stock firmware, yes, the latest stock 188 rom has built in widgt for turn off the screen. it is very handy.

I have a Huawei Nova 2i & was looking for the same. Go to Smart Assistance & activate Floating Dock.
