I discovered a new cloud storage service. Of course there are myriads of them but this one has some pretty unique features and IMO it is worth testing.
The name of the service is Jottacloud and it was described by AddictiveTips yesterday http://www.addictivetips.com/window...t-lets-you-recover-accidentally-deleted-data/
If you sign up till the end of November you will receive 15 GB storage. 10 GB is a bonus for early adopters, the basic and free version of the service will offer 5 GB. But what is interesting the Jottacloud Android app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jottacloud.android.client backup and recovery functions and they work really very well (described here http://www.jottacloud.com/autosync-for-android )
Some first impressions:
- the online version of the service is in Norwegian by default and you have to switch it manually from Bokmal to English, German, etc.
- in order to receive the extra storage you you have to set up and do at least one synchronisation. After that the extra space should become available to you
- the Web and Windows work really well, the Android apk has some bugs like the way of closing the app is a bit annoying. I hope it will be improved.(EDIT: the new, improved version of the app is already available)
- the recovery function works really well and I wonder if it can be used for syncing accross devices (like tablets and smartphones). I cannot test it because I have only one device. Is anyone who can figure it out?
- what is nice you can choose if syncing/Android backup should be done over WiFI/3G
- the upload is blazingly fast. The upload saturates my 40/4 Mb VDSL. I use different storages and Jottacloud is one of the best (like Russian Yandex or Swiss Wuala), far faster than Dropbox or Sugarsync
- there are no size limitations - I uploaded a DVD ISO file (4.3 gigabytes) and had absolutely no problems with it.
- as in other services there is a referral program and one can enlarge the storage space up to 100 GB (according to the service: Invite friends to Jottacloud.Your friend will receive an invitation to Jottacloud by e-mail. Your friend clicks on the link and sign up on Jottacloud. Both you and your friend gets 5 GB of bonus storage You can get up to 100 GB bonus storage). Just in case let me know if you would like to receive the invitation from me or you can share the invitations with your friends, etc.
TIP: Click any referral link that XDA users published below. Use it if you wanna 5 gigabytes extra for you and for them It means that till the end of November you will receive 20 gigabytes of space (and 10 after November).
I just discovered this service as well and have to admit that I'm pretty impressed so far. What I especially like (additionally to the points you already mentioned) is the fact, that you can easily sync existing folders on your PC as well (and don't need to setup extra folders, as Dropbox requires).
One more thing: You can actually get 20 GB of free space. If you join via an invitation, you and the inviting person will both receive 5 GB extra. So in case you want to use this option and treat you and me some extra space, here's my invitation link: https://www.jottacloud.com/signup?referer=8B397F51699CB3E863D50F1BDAB9B9B1

Downloa Box.net from the app store and activate it on your G2x for 50 gb of storage Once claimed, your account will have 50GB of free, secure file storage and sharing forever. Its not ICS, but it is a nice plus for owning our phone! Box.net has just replaced my dropbox!
More info is here and the market link is here
no mass upload?
Edit: that app is under featured severely. No multiple selections. Can only upload and download individual files.
not without
upgrading required for mass upload.
But
Webdav is built right into it so add a network drive at https://www.box.net/dav and login...
Snap. Downloaded app and signed up. 50gb upgrade rewarded instantly. Sweet.
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
What upgrade? No paid app in the market and no upgrade option in the app.
Awesome. 50Gb storage instantly.

Use a web browser to box.net for upgrade options. I like the webdav approach though. The Professional account is 10 bucks/month.
Nice, creating an account was a breeze and uploading works just fine. Thanks for the tip.

Using AirDroid may help. I haven't tried it with Box yet, so it's iffy.
Some people are just never happy. Here you have 50GB of free storage more than you will get for FREE from any other service and yet people have to still be NEGATIVE!!
P.S. - There is a bulk upload feature.

Well 50gb storage is 50gb storage. Can't complain here!

To upload more than one file, don't use the box app. Go to Gallery (or whatever file browser for files) and select all the files you want to upload. Then go to Share, Box.net. It will then upload all the files for you.
I keep getting plz enter a vaild email add when the add that i am putting inis vaild. I have tried it with two different emails. Wont work fr me using the box.net app.
Edit: I was using the Boxroid app not box. Using box got me the 50gb nice thanks for te tip.

Spent an hour with file expert first trying to get webdav to work (kept getting inaccessible folder errors) and then when I tried using file experts cloud management, Java memory errors. Your solution finally worked.

Can anyone recommend any alternative sites WITH decent android one touch uploading apps?
I am looking for alternatives because I don't want to sign up for ANOTHER email address, which you have to have yahoo for flickr...
You guys were plenty helpful in tracking down some very good photo apps, so how about the next stage?
Any ideas? What do you use?
Picasa? There's a few apps that can upload to the google picasa besides the stock gallery. And pretty decent space for free. You can pay for additional space if needed.
google plus uploads all your pics automatically, and there's NO storage limit. Doesn't get much better than that...
Box.com offers a free file hosting service, and when you login from your Android phone until 3/23, you get 50GB lifetime storage for free. It's pretty much like DropBox, but there's no time limit on the storage. I just signed up. It's pretty sweet.

I would also say Photobucket.
Great app, give it a try.

I went with box in the end and I am happy with it, I tried a few others first, and as nice as some of them are like picassa, they just don't work as simply as I wanted, and or didn't work.
Box still ahs issues, like I can only upload one file at a time via box app, but I can upload one or as many, tested with 130 files, as I seem to want, and it accepts more than just pics, so handy for backing up my favourite films too.
Thanks for the great link. THANKED
I bought the phone but forgot to ask where, how to get my free 25GB on Dropbox. I've installed DB on the phone but it only shows 2.5GB storage... which is how much any schmoe gets.
Anyone know how to activate that?
You log into your dropbox account when setting up the phone or under accounts in the settings menu.
I'm already logged in. It only shows 2.5GB of storage.
After I bought the phone from T-Mobile I used it to create and sign into a new Dropbox account. That account only shows 2.5 GB. So is there something I'm missing? Maybe they've retracted that offer?
They lied I didn't get no extra 25GBs.

what worked for me
I had to turn camera uploads on for this to work. I already had dropbox installed on my PC so when I turned on camera uploads, I snapped a few photos (rapid fire 5 photos in 2 secs . When they all completed the upload to dropbox on my pc I got a message claiming my guruness and I had the extra space.
Hope that helps....
As i understand it, they way you get the extra 25GB storage is by completing 5 of the 7 or so steps in using drop box.
IE. installing drop box on a machine you use, installing on a second machine, uploading from phone, sharing files with friends etc.
Once you complete all steps you will get the email about upgraded account "supercharged" status.
The HTC bonus does not have anything to do with camera uploads, etc. etc.
It's dependent on two things:
- Linking your eligible device to your Dropbox account.
- Completing 5 out of 7 of the Dropbox Getting Started Tasks.
You should get your space as soon as you have these two things completed.
Dropbox Help Center Article:
www[dot]dropbox[dot]com/help/249 (I'm not able to post url's yet)
Three things to consider if you didn't get your space:
- did you complete the Dropbox getting Started Tasks? (it can take some time to show up after completing this)
- did you link your HTC phone to another account previously? (the bonus will only be given to the first account the device is linked to)
- did you use the modified .APK previous to getting your actual HTC One phone? (Dropbox has said there will be a delay granting those users space)
An official DropBox representative wrote on a help forum about this.
You need to complete the getting started stuff again. Some say it triggered on inviting someone to Dropbox. For me it triggered when I installed Dropbox on my new laptop.
Just go through step by step the getting started stuff, and invite a random person if necessary.
This is a bit off-topic but worth noting.. I had 15GB free before I got the 25GB. Now i have like 35GB or so. (it's a bit off because they only give you 23 or something really as you saw in that person's post)
It's worth it to refer people you know. I used the form to e-mail all my contacts, and even a year later got some people who finally got around to signing up LOL. Through all that I was able to get 15GB.
Mine says I have earned 23GB but that I "can now store up to 5.38 GB of stuff in your Dropbox"... weird, and irritating.
Sorry the attachment is a PDF, but it's a screen of what I'm talking about if you want to see.

These 2 apps are highly under rated, i'm extremely surprised that they haven't been downloaded very much at all!
Anyways, i did my review on them and i highly recommend you check these out! I know you'll love them!

It does have an icon now Thanks for the review though man, much appreciated
CloudSend is awesome if you have DropBox, highly recommended if you already have a DropBox account
EDIT: You didn't mention Send It allows you to queue downloads, send shortened url's (aka via flipboard) and copy the link to your clipboard so you could attach a file to a tweet or a forum post... just saying
Lol, sorry! Gotta keep em short and sweet. The attention span of some folks is about 2 minutes, seriously, i have statistical data that proves it! LOL.
Check out CloudSend's official application thread at here
CloudSend now supports pausing uploads during bad network conditions along with a new setting to customize what gets sent when sharing the file's link. Also, CloudSend too has a "Copy to Clipboard" functions for even more sharing options.
A ton of new features are in the works, get ready for CloudSend v2!
Not sure what advantage these apps would be compared to using the standard Dropbox and Drive apps. I found most, if not all of the same features in the newest versions. You should probably mention Box, though. The app supports intents for almost everything. It's so flexible, it can get almost annoying having to select the default app for some things (like installing an app) that you wouldn't expect a file share program to catch. I say almost because at least you have that option to upload to Box from ANYTHING, ANYWHERE lol.

The difference is the easy way how to use:
Find your file, share it to SendIt, choose a contact (or clipboard) and send. That's it.
The app will upload in background, get the download link and send this link to where you wanted.
Easy!

Thank you. Everything both our apps do can be done via the official apps but the key here is ease of use. You don't have to wait for it to upload via the official app, grab the download link, open you sms app etc etc..You choose your file and contact and that's that.. So simple.
And FYI Send It (Version 1.3) now has SkyDrive support which, vs Google Drive, even if I do say so myself is miles more user friendly
Try using this app in combination with BeamLink application. The BeamLink app can beam links to any screen like laptop, ipad, tablets, smartvs etc. No additional setup required. Check it out at the Store

I agree. I've had a free 50gb from Box for a couple of years, but the lack of Sync makes it far less useful. Any use of that space is accomplished manually, which partially defeats the purpose.
Unless I'm missing something - is there a way to get Box files and folders to automatically update, upload, etc.?

I don't think so. You can of course save from a lot of apps on your 700 or other Android to the cloud, and access your files (provided you have some kind of data connection), but automagically... not with the app itself. I saw that an app I have been using for a loooong time with my own FTP server actually supports syncing... <blush>: FolderSync. Will give it a try.
Trial version ("only allows two accounts and has no sync filters or Tasker support" -- enough for testing Box ):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Full version:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.full
EDIT: confirmed working! I really recommend FolderSync for its versatility and all the options it throws at you. Nice to see it actually works.
It works!! Thank you! I also noticed that Polaris Office can save/edit files on Box no problem.
This is a great offer, no strings from what I've been reading in their TOS and 3rd party reports. Seems they just started the offer and who knows how long they will. They do limit the file size per file though. So to move big files, then you have to pay.
One thing to keep in mind about this deal though, they offer zero warranty and zero guarantees of your data being secure. See item#14 of the TOS. But I guess you can't ask for much when it's free .

Thanks for the link - no, I wasn't aware of this, and it does look promising.
It looks like this would work for my phone, but I'll have to see if there's a Windows desktop equivalent. That's where it would be the most useful. I'm currently using IDrive to backup various files and folders on my desktop, in real time. I was able to get 15gb of free storage there, and it does do full sync, but I'd love to be able to do this with my 50gb of free Box storage. As I said, the main limitation with free Box is that it does not provide a sync function. If there's a way to enable this with a 3rd party application, that would be ideal.

Exactly - that's what I was referring to. Box definitely does do real-time sync, but you need one of their paid accounts for this.
I have mixed feelings about paying for cloud-based storage, and have taken a serious look at CrashPlan, SOS Online Backup, etc., to do a full backup of perhaps 300gb+ of photos and files. But I haven't convinced myself this is either practical, reliable, or necessary. I currently have a backup strategy with 2 duplicate internal hard drives, updated nightly, along with a similarly cloned external HD backed up weekly, and then stored off-site.
