Need to buy a 7 inch tablet for my niece. First she wanted a kindle until I showed her my hacked Nook Color. Now she thinks she wants a Nook because of how much more my Nook can do VS a kindle. She doesn't even know about 7 inch tablets like the Nexus 7 being way more powerful than my pathetic old Nook.
I'm leaning toward a Nexus 7. The thing is, I want to get her a gift that's "cool", not by my standard but by the standard of the 12 year old snobby pukes she goes to school with. No sense in buying her a nexus if it won't get used because some snot nosed brat judged it uncool. If that's probable then I'll just get the stupid Nook HD or Tablet and be done with it. She wants it for "reading books."
Suggestions? $199 budget
Sir,

Hello xda community!
I am looking into buying a tablet soon, and am wondering what tablet I should get for this will be my first.
I would like it if the tablet had an active developement community.
Any suggestion?
Thanks!

If you have enough money to spare and a bit patience, i would wait for the transformer prime and see how it is welcomed in the developement community.
Besides that, the acer iconia A501/A500 are not bad.
If it should be a bit more low budget, check out one of the amazon readers. Most have received android custom ROMs.
I am willing to wait for I would still like to do.more reasearch. I probably wont end up buying anything until Q1 2012
Any other suggestions?
Transformer Prime is defiantly the best choice. Quad-core with ICS, can't be beat. I have 2 tablets, and I think tablets are great.
Hit that thank button if I helped!
What kind of price tag are we looking at for the transformer prime? Hopefully 600-?
It will be around there.

Ya will be around ~600, its 600euro incl. keyboard on german amazon.
I just researched a lot on the tablet and came to find that it will be launching with honeycomb and the price for the 32gb version is 499$ USD
I will be looking into this tablet, thanks.
well as the title says im looking for a tablet and i want your opinions . I want to get one for my gf for xmas and i want to spend between 200-400 dollars. It would probably only be used for web browsing, music, apps/games, maybe pictures. We both have smartphones and i use this site regularly (GS3 and GS2skyrocket) but i dont know much about the tablet market. i just want something that will offer more then a larger screen.
thanks guys!
**DEVICE SUGGESTION THREAD** -- Not sure what device to buy? Ask here!
Hi everyone,
I hardly post here, usually find what I need via search, but this im stuck.
My 1st tablet was a tf101 loved it, moved on to nexus 7. 2 weeks ago my not so better half stood on it and smashed the screen. I need to replace it. Not too keen to buy another nexus 7, its getting on and I'd like a change.
Here's the dilemma, no questions straight away I knew I wanted a nexus 10, BUT its unavailable in my country and although I'm in Australia right now google play cancelled the order I made due to paying with a New Zealand credit card. What do I get?
Ipad 4? Never used iOS but scared I wont like the walled garden (love to flash and tinker)
Surface or other windows rt tab? Same prob as ipad but with added prob of lacking apps.
Other android tab? Really like the nexus devices, note 10.1 has too low res and tf700 I/O problems.
Really don't know what to do here, worst case I'll buy another n7 since they're cheap and wait till I can get something I'm happy with.
Thoughts please
Thanks

I am looking to sell my iPad and get a android tablet. I have the s4 phone and I love it, I also have a samsung laptop that I love as we'll so I am leaning towards a samsung tablet. What would you guys recommend, I have been looking at the note 8.0 and I have read mixed reviews so what do you guys think?
It's a solid tablet, but it all depends on how useful that S-Pen is going to be for you. Otherwise, if you're looking to get the most bang for your buck specs-wise, I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

Sero 7 Pro!
The $149 Hisense Sero 7 Pro is a great Nexus 7 clone available exclusively at Walmart, and occasionally you can find cheaper refurbs online for about 80-90 bucks. I got mine this June, and it was a great purchase decision! I've just recently rooted it and am running Dolorespark's dopaROM v1.1, which you can read about here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470998 There's also a Kitkat-based ROM called Taktik (get it?) that I haven't tried yet as the camera and mp3 aren't working properly yet, but good news: Hisense just released the kernel source code today, and it looks like ROM development for this tablet is about to really take off! You can read about Taktik here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536116
Good luck with your future tablet purchase!

Really looking to get a new phone pronto!!! The ones I am considering are:
mi max 2
mi A2
oldriver S10MAX
maze alpha x
ZenFone 5
Vivo V9 4GB 64GB 6.3"
UMIDIGI Z2 Special Edition 6.2" x
Lenovo Z5 Smartphone
The old river s10max really sticks out to me but I really can't find much on it. I would love to hear any and all feedback from everyone about any and all the phones. XDA is my goto for anything android! By the way I use pre-paid ATT and I live in St. Louis Missouri. Thanks in advance!
Outside of the Asus, I'm not sure I would want to risk going with any other ones there. Support, OS updates and general quality are my main concerns with those. Hell, even BLU is better I think. If you want low budget devices, BLU, located in Miami, has these white label devices that run fine. Great prices on Amazon, fast shipping and good return policy. Either that, or Sams Club/Costco. There's usually 2 unlocked devices there are an affordable price. Usually Samsung branded. Much better support and return policy.
My 2 cents.
