[Q][9001][MOD] - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
GT-I9001 Android 4.0.4 CyanogenMod 9 ivendor ariesve RC5
I have a strange issue with my Samsung S Plus. When I use the camera with the builtin app I can take photographs without any problem.
I take the photo and then I'm back to the live view.
When I use others apps, like Camera Zoom FX, HDR Camera, ProCapture... I always have the last photograph on my preview screen. There's no refresh. I don't get back to the live view screen.
I have tested several apps, same issue.
Can't find any related post.
Thanks for your help.

I experienced something similiar while on CM9, and it was one of reasons I gave up using this. Why not to try anything else? Try out a CM10 based rom, or SlimBean 3.1, fully compiled from AOSP. I prefer the last one, stable and reliable.

[Q] G Tablet Camera compression too high / media_profiles.xml help

Hello,
My G Tablet running CM7 Nightly #79 (had the same issue even in stable) is having an issue with the camera. The images I take are super highly compressed (in every one of the picture quality option). The preview is fine, however when you go to open the picture it is very bad quality and the file size is tiny. Also, in the camera app, if I go to take a video, the preview is fine until you click record and then the preview window freezes while the clock appears and ticks up, and then you click to stop and it does, but I seem to get a force close (even when I go to select different qualities I get a force close). But yes, when I ran the stock ROM I had no issues, and even when I ran TnT Lite I had no problems. So I was wondering if someone that had a working camera could maybe post their media_profiles.xml from their /system/etc/ folder? maybe that would be a solution. I know others have had this issue, but I have not seem to have found a solution out there.
Thanks a lot! Really appreciate all the work and effort out there in the android community.
I have the same problem with camera ... i never tested in stock cus i went cm7 and the veganginger and camera doesnt work on either

This is a known issue in CyanogenMod and the devs are working on it.
For now, you can use the Camera Fun Free app from Market. I haven't tried it, but others on the board here have reported that it works for taking pictures.
Could this be a fix?

[APP][CAM][NEMESIS] CyanogenMod Focal: unofficial build

Here it is! The first part of the Nemesis project, Focal, is already here!
This is just a build I made downloading the source from github.
I will try to update it as new versions progressively come.
This isn't my work, say thanks to the CyanogenMod Team instead!!
Sorry for the Google Drive download link, but I apparently can't upload this file as attachment...
UPDATE: It seems to better work on Nexus devices and on AOSP based ROMs. Stock ROMs like Sense, TouchWiz etc. will probably experience problems with this camera.
DOWNLOAD
thanks for compiling!
i have currently a nexus 4 running stock 4.3 unrooted with stock kernel.
this is the first time i tried focal, and here are my impressions:
the preview lags. constantly. no matter what conditions, dark or sunny.
i dont like the interface, even though it has nice ideas, its just too much. im not a big photographer, so for me these features are not that important to me, i much more prefer simplicity, and this is just overwhelming.
i dont really get how the view of the previously taken photos should work, how i can navigate through them and how it can be deleted.
they took a lot of good ideas from the official camera app, but implemented it in the wrong way.
as for picsphere: i dont like that there is no preview, i only see the frame when i already took it. and that i have to manually press the shutter button to take the frame, and its not automatic. they should at least give an option for that.
picsphere rendering is very slow, much faster on stock.
plus it saves all frames of a picsphere as separate photos too, whats that all about?
and wheres hdr mode?
and why is it locked in landscape mode?
so to sum up: i like the idea of having cyanogenmod-developed apps instead of stock, but it still has a loooong way to go to become a considerable option to replace the stock camera app.

Most features work on my sensation.
You can change which of the editing settings you want to appear using the slide-up settings.
Picsphere has previews for me. But I agree the rendering needs work.
HDR works
You can swipe from the left/top to get to gallery and see/edit/delete pictures.
It's not locked in landscape for me either.
I used the zip from the other thread though

What commands did you use to compile it?

Using official CM11, media apps can't find most of my camera pictures

I've been using stock 4.4 on my Nexus 5 for a while. I installed CM11 M1, and now it seems like the Camera, Gallery and Photos apps cannot see pictures in DCIM/Camera starting from a certain date (around 2 weeks ago) onwards. Taking new pictures with the CM camera app seems to work when you take the picture, but scrolling right to view the picture you just took does not show it in the app, nor do Gallery or Photos. However, file explorer apps do see the missing pictures, including ones just taken with the CM camera app.
Restoring my stock ROM backup goes back to normal and I see all the pictures, again, including the ones I took with the CM camera app.
I've tried CM11 M1 and also the 2013-12-06 nightly (with a full factory reset and wipe), same results.
Has anyone seen this behavior after installing the official CM11? Thanks!

As for portrait you should use google camera, which is way better in my opinion both in edge recognizing and quality (and it works for both front and back camera).
For B&W you can use Snapdragon camera (included in most roms), but i noticed it has some bugs with focusing, or FreeDCam, which should cycle and show B&W using the second camera (but it depends on the rom you're using).
As for MIUI camera you can get it to work on custom roms through some ports, but you'll get basic functionality and for sure no support for second camera. They're also old miui 9 versions, so they won't have portrait.
If you still want to try here are some versions to flash (remember to give all the permissions prior opening the app, otherwise it will say that it can't connect).
I still recommend to avoid using miui camera on this device, it is really bad with picture compression. Just use GCam for almost everything and you'll get awesome results, i even compared with my friends' mi 8 and the results are impressive.

Assuming you are on oreo-based rom (i'm on syberia and this doesn't work), just open FreeDCam and try to switch camera. It should show front camera, and changing again camera should show up the B/W sensor. I can't say it works for sure, i used to do it on an old unofficial rom (AICP based off old los15 sources), and it may still work but i didn't do further testing.
I asked to syberias' dev if he could look into that, hopefully we'll have working B/W sensor for third party cameras other than buggy Snap
UPDATE: Got it working guys, made a new thread so that it will be pinned for others too

OnePlus Camera App in custom ROM

Howdy!
I'm using LineageOS (without Gapps) on my OnePlus 7 Pro and it's great. The only drawback is the camera.
I installed the Stock ROM OP camera app and gallery app and they kind of 'work' but the picture quality is just not there. It looks a lot worse, especially in wide angle mode.
Very soft, mushy, very grainy in the shadows, just overall poor quality.
Also, the camera app crashes when I open it every time. I have to long-click and select a mode, that's the only way to open the app. I also can't get from the camera directly to the gallery.
I'm using the 'correct' versions since I got the apk from my device when it was running OxygenOS 10.3.1
I tried installing 'OnePlus Camera service' apk, but it wouldn't install.
Did any of you guys figure out how to get the stock camera to work on a custom rom? I suspect there is some post processing app needed that runs in the background, cleaning up the picture.
thanks!
You should give Gcam a go.
There's a good discrption in the apps thread
I haven't seen OOSCam work well in any ROM. Gcam is great for photos, but stock OOS cam is what I want to use for video. It's the reason I went back to stock.
