i have a tmobile galaxy s3. i had installed clockworkmod and it was rooted soon after i bought it. then i unrooted it not to long ago waiting for jellybean update. anyways, i got tired of waiting. tried to re-root the phone. cwm still on phone. then accidentally erased and resetted all data and info. lost all info on internal memory card. phone reset to original settings. now, when i try to reload cwm, it doesn't work.when i run odin, and install cwm, everything goes ok, it passes. but when i try to boot to cwm, it only comes up to the android recovery. tried multiple odins and cwm tar files. none seem to work. going crazy, need rooted phone again. pppplllllleeeaaassseeeee help!
flash it
if you are rooted but just need cwr fixed-up you could just go to playstore and download one click recovery flasher or rommanager and let the app flash it for you.
I cant get my ns4g to flash a diff recovery

Google the S3 QCOM Toolkit for all US varients. Download to ur laptop or computer and run the process. It just that easy. My SGS3 (atat) needed to be completely reset to facotry condition. When I got it back I used odin for a new recovery and root access but it always went back to stock recovery. Make use debugging is selected and it should take less than 5 mins.

Sorry I meant to say the S3 Snapdragon toolkit V2.3 which is the ALL-IN-ONE tool for all US SGS3 variants.

So I traded my galaxy s 4g on craigslist about a month ago for a nexus s (t-mobile) which besides the 4g antenna is 100% better in every way possible. I absolutely love the phone. It came previously rooted which I was ok with. It is on 2.3.3. Not sure what method was used to gain root. Now that the backstory is done here is my dilemma:
I constantly get the update message. I guess I wouldn't mind so much if I could just get rid of the message but the problem isn't just that. I also want to be on the latest greatest version of android. So I've read a bunch of walkthroughs and various ways to update to the latest firmware on a custom rom like cm7 and keep the root, or un root and go to stock 2.3.3 and manually update to stock 2.3.4.
I need an opinion on which would be my easiest way (new to android previous iPhone jail breaker) to get to 2.3.4?
You cannot lose root on a nexus s. No matter the update you can always reroot as its a developer phone with an unlocked bootloader.

Do the update
Download su.zip and the right cwm recovery image for your phone
Mount USB storage
Copy su.zip on sdcard and recovery image goes into /tools folder inside your adb/sdk folder on pc
Boot into fastboot, vol up+power
In a cmd prompt do 'fastboot devices' should return a number (this step is just to check if fastboot/adb is working properly)
'fastboot flash recovery recoveryimagename.img'
Choose recovery option on phone
Install su.zip from sdcard
Done

I forgot to mention that it will not take the update. I tried a bunch of times and it doesn't work, just gets locked up during the process.

i'm pretty sure that's just cause you're on a custom rom. flash a stock rom and the update should work fine
After much consideration I decided to root and install ICS from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354263 following this guide.
I rooted successfully and used ROM Manager to make a backup. When I came to installing the mod, my phone is just stuck on this screen -> http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7960393/IMG_20111125_125549.jpg
It has been like that for about 15 minutes. Can anybody help me?
Thanks
EDIT: Apparently clockworkmod recovery got wiped :s
Flash a new cmw with fastboot and you'll be set.

Have you tried do go through the steps of the one click root process again? (assuming that is how to you rooted your phone the first time)
If you can boot into the OS, flash cwm twice in a row using Rom Manager. It takes two flashes to get the recovery to stick.
If no OS, push the cwm file using adb.

PLEASE HELP!! I have successfully rooted the device and was doing ok after flashing CWmod recovery 6.0.1 through E-Z recovery app and running Liquid Rom. I managed to be dumb enough to flash CWMod version 5.8.4.9 through Rom manager and when I rebooted my phone it got stuck in boot loop. I am able to get into CWMod 5.8.4.9 but I cannot restore my backup anymore. I can also data wipe and install a new rom, but it all just keeps going into bootloop and I cannot get past the samsung custom unlock screen. It first flashed that, then the android man pops up on the next screen like its loading something and then just keeps looping through the process. I did not use ODIN for any of this process and I dont know how to get myself back tothe point where I can reboot. Any help would be tremendously appreciated, because I'm dead stuck and in a panic. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Happend to me last night...
I made the same mistake... DO NOT download any recoveries from ROM manager. I found out the hard way... So the problem now is your phone is stuck using the recovery you downloaded. I am not sure of a quick way using that recovery if you can revert back but... My solution got me where I needed to be in order to get going again.
I had to use Odin to root to stock ROM. Yes when you wipe it will destroy your data but not your pictures, downloaded files, and other files you put on there. When I re-rooted with stock all my stuff for CM10, gapps, and the kexec CWM was there.
So use this guide...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28530394&postcount=1
Section 1!!!!! And follow the steps EXACTLY the way it says to.
This is why i have never liked rom manager...
The best solution for us to flash recoveries is ez recovery free from the market. I would use this going forward once you Odin back to stock

Hi guys,
3 days ago I had root but softbricked by installing hyperdrive when "I thought" I unlocked via ez-unlock but I guess that didn't take. Tried to restore back to stock but couldn't, I lost access to CWM and Odin nor Heimdall (Mac, Linux and Windows) didn't like my phone in 3 computers using 3 different cables.
But from continuous failed/incomplete/partial flashes, CWM is miraculously back! So that's like my only glimmer of hope right now. So my question is could I get back to stock or any rom from flashing something from CWM? Could I get ANY kind of ROM running again, could I root again, unlock bootloader and install new rom via CWM.. Basically can I fix my phone from CWM? Or is the only way back to any rom is via stock via Odin/Heimdall?
PLEASE HELP.

So confusing....
Ok, so you're on a stock rom right now and you have cwm installed? You must have some type of root enabled, do you have supersu or superuser installed? If you don't you need to install one from the playstore.
If you have cwm, then all you need to do is use ez unlock to unlock your bootloader then you can flash away. Use version 1.2, you likely used 1.4 which doesn't always work.

I'm really sorry about the confusion.
I came from a stock rooted, "unlocked" rom, it had CWM touch installed. Then I tried to install Hyperdrive.. Install went well via aroma.. But after reboot I got the verizon unauthorized error and I lost access to CWM Touch but I could go into download mode... Now here's where the confusion starts...
I tried to flash back to stock via Odin. Each and every single time it failed after a few files. Believe me I looked for a solution as in several solutions all of which failed until my last flash which also failed but installed a few more files before it failed and I dunno I got CWM Touch back.
Hence the reason why I'm asking if I could fix my phone via CWM because Odin is crazy and Heimdall is also picky.

So you can get into download mode just fine? You need to use a better USB cable and try a different port on your computer. It should be able to flash, but if you're using a lower quality cable than what came with the phone it might be your issue.
This guide should work if you can't get a normal flash back to stock work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840030
Basically, the only other way I know of to go back to stock without a pc is to use mobile Odin, but that needs root access. There's no file you can flash in recovery to go completely back to stock as it will still leave you with a custom recovery installed.

I finally got into my rom, after flashing the first boot chain (vralec) Odin messed up again, couldn't flash the 2nd one nor root66 so I pulled my batt and I guess the first vralec gave me stock recovery n just let me boot into my rom, installed twrp and ez unlock 1.2 from there, rebooted into twrp and then installed TkROM.
Thanks for all the help.

Hi guys. I have a Verizon S3 that is out of warranty that I've decided to mess around with since I've already upgraded to a G2. I tried to flash ClockworkMod Recovery using heimdall, but couldn't get it to work. Since I couldn't get heimdall to work, I rooted and installed ROM Manager, then installed ClockworkMod Recovery from there. When I rebooted to get into recovery it says "Verizon has encountered unauthorized software" and wouldn't let me in. I booted normally, then tried to go into recovery from ROM Manager. I get the same message, but now I'm stuck in a recovery loop. I've tried flashing back through heimdall and Odin, but neither one is working for me.
I can get into download just fine, but everything I try to flash with Odin gets me a big FAIL message. Any suggestions? The phone was upgraded to 4.3 before I got a hold of it, which is probably my main issue.
Try flashing ORIGINAL STOCK. You have a locked bootloader and will not be able to install a custom recovery or any custom rom. But, once you're up and running you can root it.

Do you have a link to the original stock files for 4.3? I've looked, but can't find any.
Try this. It worked for me.
