Which RUU?! - HTC One S

How do I know which RUU to use to return to stock?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app

Simply, choose a RUU with your carrier's name, or if you want an unbranded rom you have to choose a RUU with your's region's name ;]. Simple as that ;D

I am pretty sure it depends on hboot type?! I can't find latest H3G ruu for the last release.

I don't think it does. Here is the newest version that i have found RUU_Ville_U_H3G_UK_1.78.771.5_Radio_0.16.31501S.19_2_10.23.31501S.10L_release_258982_signed.exe

No, that's old. i need the one which is 2.35 i believe?!

Return to Stock

I'll tell you briefly my experience
I bought an unbranded HTC One S online. When it arrived I was surprised to find that it was T-Mobile branded (european version). So I sent it back asking for a no brand one, which arrived 1 week later. When I turned it on (it was half-charged) I found this written:
"this build is for development purposes only do not distribute outside htc with out htc write permission failure to comply my lead to legal action"
I checked the bootloader and found it was unlocked.
I think they sent me back my T-Mobile one unlocked with a stock rom.
1) How did they remove T-Mobile brand?
2) How can I see if my phone is rooted?
3) Can I receive OTA upgrade even if the bootloader is unlocked?
4) Is it possible to return to unbranded stock with locked bootloader and no root permissions (as an original unbranded phone)?
thanks
They prob rooted and debloated all the stuff on there removing all them apps many Roms have the option for this when installing them. To check if your rooted there is an app called root checker in app store download that. U can return to stock debloated by running ruu and u will have to get the tmobile ruu and specific country but it is de bloated and yea u can do the original HTC updates If your still on stock I don't know if u have to lock bootloader tho personally I think u should get custom Rom because a lot more customisation and Developers build their Roms around the latest HTC updates

Once you're on the 2.20 firmware, your hboot has changed. You can't downgrade once you have the newest firmware. It just isn't possible. You would have to buy an entirely new phone and hope that it was on 1.85
Plus, if it WAS possible for HTC to flash 1.85 on it, couldn't we just run the RUU and do it ourselves? That's why it isn't possible. You will ruin the phone.

Not necessary impossible..what if they had a different procedure whenever they first install everyone on the phone to begin with. Not just an ordinary ruu but something else.

YES
158 error usually means that it cannot find the image or you have the wrong or a bad ruu. Try downloading the correct RUU and running the exe again. Just to be sure, your phone is stock and has never been tampered or had cid changed?

I get the same error and my phone says tampered on the fastboot screen. I rooted it and now I can't get the RUU to work. Not sure if my CID has been changed. Any ideas? Please.
Isn't the software update supposed to be 3.18?

Pretty sure that's the release date not the version.
Nevertheless, that error means the OP has the wrong RUU.
You rooted it?

Please read before doing anything else with the RUU:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181929
SuperCID + S-on + RUU = brick
If you are SuperCID (which you should be, if you are rooted) then the RUU not running is a good thing. It would have bricked you, if it ran.

You need to run the 3.18 ruu. But before you do we need more info on your phone.
Are you s-on or off?
SuperCID?
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
I ruud when I was on viper and s-off to 3.18. Hboot is 1.09
Yes, s-off and supercid
Sent from my One XL using xda app-developers app
If you're s-off, just plug in your phone and run the 3.18 ruu for your carrier.

I'm not on atnt and in fact where I live there is no atnt.
If there is another method to independently update my hboot, can you please share?
Sent from my One XL using xda app-developers app
It doesn't matter, you can still run the att RUU to get the 2.14 hboot.
Sent from my Evita
You just need to run the ruu for the carrier your phone came from. It doesnt matter what carrier you're with now.

And is there a way to downgrade the ruu too?

Why do you want to downgrade? Doesbt make much sense to go out of your way to do so.
You can however if you like but you will require s-off. Then you can run an older ruu Proust flash the 1.09 hboot manually if you like, though, as I said, there's really no point.

Sorry, I didn't copy the full link. I updated my previous post and here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37227608
MIUI will work on 2.14 hboot.
If it's the sense based, no extra steps.
If it's the CM10 based, you would need to downgrade Touchscreen Firmware for which you would need S-OFF

I don't think you need to downgrade TS firmware for CM with the 3.4 kernel. I could be wrong.

True... It hasn't been updated in a while has it? I want thinking about that, because most of the big rooms Roms have updated to 3.4

Yeah It's been a while, I don't really use MIUI, I just check threads out when people ask about them and I remember looking into the MIUI roms a couple days ago.

Oh wow I misread your post completely. I thought your referring to all CM10 based ROMs .
Also, @OP, if you like MIUI, you might want to give Avatar ROM a look.
