Bootmenu..unless you are not planning to flash cm10
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app

BootMenu is more functional and provides 2ndinit support, so you can dual boot etc. However, if you're thinking about trying CM10 (which has its own built in CWM), then you'll want Atrix2Bootstrapper. Either way, they're both just apks that use a hijack to run a custom recovery, and there is no "official" CWM for Atrix2. If you're planning on sticking with ICS based roms then BootMenu will probably be what you want. IMO

Except for Cm10 and now Magicmod, ive used only bootmenu on all the Roms, even on my stock rooted ICS.. Main advantage is that you can dual boot and it seems more user friendly with touch functionality too..
and ofcourse youve to use bootstrap to flash Numa, cm10 and magicmod

So can I do this? Install Cwm through bootstrapper method and if I need bootmenu, then remove those hijack files and install bootmenu? I have to go to their respective recoveries from within the app rite?!

With the bootstrapper, you can also use rom manager and install the bionic cwm recovery, which will get you pretty close to a proper setup and allow you to take advantage of rom manager's one click backup and so forth. As for bootmenu, yes, if you want to use it then you just deny su permission to the bootstrapper and uninstall the hijack and logwrapper I believe, then install bootmenu and it's dependencies. Either setup works, it's honestly just about what you want and what you plan on running rom wise. If you have any more questions or need any more help, feel free to pm me and I'll help you along.

Thanks everyone

bootstrap
Does anyone know if bootstrapper works with all 4.0.4 roms? I dont like having to switch recoveries between differnt roms.

Yes it works with 4.0 roms, but It is not really the best or only thing anymore. If you use CM10 or Magic MOD, then DO NOT re-install bootstrap after the flash or you will bootloop, as cm10 and Magic MOD, both have their own CWM recovery already installed.
You might think about bootmenu, it really is a pretty user friendly option, and it does allow you to get into it on boot. Again do not install this to CM10 or MM.

I can use bootmenu to flash cm10,it's true.

Is there a way to flash back to stock recovery

I know about nvflash but it seems rather risky and complicated, is there a way to just flash a .zip from cwm to get stock recovery?

I hope so, that is why I immediately did a backup of the original rom as soon as I installed Clockworksmod.

Flash to vanilla stock - see the FAQ area (in my sig) for links.
I flashed the lasted stock via clockworkmod and it actually flashed recovery, as well. So it should get you to a 100% vanilla setup.

Newbie Help

Ok just got this phone and have decided to go with Phoenix Blood rom, but how do i start? I have to be on froyo to root? Im coming from samsung epic on sprint that i flashed so im not completely retarded. Thanks for any help
Use superoneclick to root on froyo.
If your on 2.3.3 gb there's a flashable. Zip in development section to root.
Also you will want to use tgagunnmans nvflash method to install clockworkmod recovery in dev section.
Phoenix blood is a great choice btw, enjoy!

You're still on Froyo? To my understanding it's a good idea to flash the OTA GB first so that you'll get the up to date baseband. Once that's done just go ahead and flash PB.
no im on gb jsut thought i had to go back to froyo to root, so i just flash clockwork mod then pb and thats it?

Yes, but make sure you're using NVFlash to get CWM. Don't use Rom Manager.
Easiest way is using the tool unlockroot. It supports gb on the G2X. Or you can use nvflash, whichever you prefer.

From that thread:
Flashing the custom recovery using NvFlash is the only way to ensure that in the case your phone will not boot up, you will be able to get into recovery to fix the issue / flash a ROM / restore from nandroid backup. That is what this app will do for you.
If you flashed the ClockworkMod recovery from ROM Manager it does not flash the recovery to your phone, it fake flashed it. The only way you can gain access to ClockworkMod recovery is through ROM Manager at that point. Using this method is the only way to flash recovery so it is persistent and accessible booting to recovery.
If you have already flashed through ROM Manager you can still proceed with this method. Flash Away!
(You can use both ROM Manager CWM and have the nvflashed version working together. You just access either or one at a time, having the nvflashed one means you can boot to CWM. Welcome to Tegra2)

Follow the link. This is a must for tegra 2 based phones. It is always better to be safe than sorry and it also allows you to do a ton of other things, such as making backups and flashing roms. Let us know if you need help. The phone is pretty much unbrickable after you do this. It gives you the ability to recover from any major mistake.
Its in the dev thread, it low level flashes clockworkmod recovery to our phones internal memory partition. You need to install apx drivers first in order for the g2x to be nvflashed.

thanks for the help guys got it all set up
Just to add in, nvflash allows u to boot into cwm recovery whenever u want and u don't need to be next to a computer. I think that is how it worked for Samsung phones and Odin, where u needed a computer, but haven't used a Samsung phone so I could be wrong. Remember always make a back up of everything and play around with the different roms, not every rom works for everyone
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Actually Odin is just like nvflash. It is used to put cwm on you phone and to put the stock recovery back on.
Once you have cwm you can flash what ever rom or kernel without the need for root. Just back up your stock unrooted stock rom before flashing anything else.
If you do that you will have your own stock backup with no need of finding it in the forums if you need to go back to stock.

Maybe I misunderstood what you were trying to do.....
I was under the impression that you expected your phone to reboot into CWM when you reboot your phone. Otherwise, what you need to do is open the Atrix 2 bootstrap app and click "boot recovery" and it'll reboot into recovery.
Yeah I want my phone to boot into CWM every time I reboot. I'm just not sure what you mean by flashing CWM on boot. Thanks for the quick replies.

Problem with Clockwork Recovery

Hello, I have a Droid 2 Global, with OTA .629, but already rooted and everything, but i have constant reboots since i had the phone (with .330, .607, .608 and .629) maybe its a defective phone, i dont know really, but the problem i have actually it is:
I installed the newest clockwork recovery using Rom Manager, but the recovery it doesnt do anything, it says it wipe data/cache, and very quickly, but it doesnt, it gives me error formating /system, etc...
It says that installed sucessfully Cyanogenmod 7.2 (latest nightly) but, it freezes at M logo... what should i do?
stop using rom manager
use a different cwm version
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
suggestions?
try droid 2 bootstrap
or you already have rom manager, you can get different cwm versions, with that
try last version that worked for you
This is hardly discussed or documented anywhere, but if you're using CWM, you have to flash Droid X 2nd Init and NOT Droid 2 Global as your recovery.

You aren't quite right.
The correct way is installing Droid 2 Bootstrap Recovery and using that to hijack. This will give you CWM 2.0.0.x. Once done, install the Droid X (2nd init) CWM via ROM Manager, and you'll end up with a fully functional CWM 5.0.0.x.
(Custom ROMs like CM7, CM9, and MIUI come with 5.0.0.x preinstalled, and restoring a backup made with 5.0.0.x is impossible if running 2.0.0.x.)
ok, i dont really get it...
using Droid X 2nd-init, it wipes and everything, and flashes CM9-D2G-04162012 and update-cm-7-20120420-NIGHTLY-droid2we-signed, coming from stock .629 firmware, and it freezes at M logo after rebooting, then is necessary sbf'ing again .608, and unbrick it againg, and is a loooong process....
again there are no roms built for .629, so you need to search for ones that are reported to work, and how they got them to work
In general, according to people who use CM9 on top of .629, any .608 ROM works on .629. There are no differences.

have you tried, wiping cache/data, after flashing
not for me, used latest CM9 and CM7 nightlies, freezes at M logo... only before flashing update.zip for getting from .608 (hybrid?) to .629... custom roms work somewhat ok, without wi-fi, Sound Settings fc, and other little details...

you could try
1-wipe data,cache,davlick
2-mount and format system
3-mount system and install zip
done, no results...
I get the same results after flashing MIUI over .629. It flashes ok using Droid X(2-int) recovery but after that its bugy as hell. I cant switch to GSM, tried dialing 46xx number and using network toggle. GSM doesn't see to work at all and when i try to restore my old rom it gets stuck on M logo.
Transceiver issues are in no way related to CWM.
It would be nice if someone who is on .629 can confirm that GSM works on CM7,9 MIUI or any other room. I want some ICS goodness but it looks like it would be just a waste of time flashing again.
Well, .629 doesn't really differ from .608 if you're looking at it from a custom ROM's point of view. Same kernel and modules, and that's all a custom ROM needs from the “base” system.

kexec touch cwm??

so i downloaded a CWM touch recovery that claimed to be kexec compatible from another thread and pushed it to the phone. loaded up fine. what i found odd was that i though only v6.0+ CWM's were kexec compatible. this CWM, however, reads as v5.8.4.5
i don't run a kexec rom at the moment... i had it installed for a short stint with CM10. i've since switched back to synergy.
anyway, wondering if anyone can confirm that this CWM is indeed a kexec compatible recovery.
thanks!

Yeah it's the cwm touch. You just edit a file and it's supposedly kexec enabled. I've been too chicken to try it though, just don't have time on my hands to flash back via Odin because I'm never home >. >

I used cwm touch with the first kexec kernel/recovery package that required to reflash the kernel each reboot. I believe it was called "boosted v.01"...
