Recently, I flashed a new ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1926640
The author said that this ROM featured the qwerty keyboard with arrows.
However, it's only feasible in typing English. Plus, there are still lots of problems, but I'm not gonna type them out in detailed.
My questions is, I wanna flash the attachment of the HTC keyboards with arrows.
But I don't know whether it fits in ICS. Can somebody help me with this?
PS: It's my first post in XDA; however, I've been one of the members for quite a long time, but still have no authority to reply the threads in Development.
That's why I resort to here.
do you mean the space it consumes in the screen?(1 row under the keyboard)
or its theme/color? (i think its black/white)

This is my first post and I want to take this opportunity to thank the many developers and support members on XDA. I can appreciate their hard work and skill creating the various ROMs, Kernels and Mods that add so much more value to our phones that would otherwise not exist.
I’m currently running CyanogenMod 7.2.0 Alpha Version 4 with Da_G CM7 Kernel 0.43-v4. By the way this is a great combo and most bugs have been worked out. For whatever reason though, the default Android keyboard in landscape obscures the fields I’m typing in. In other words, I can’t see what I’m typing because the keyboard resizes itself too tall hiding the entry fields. Work perfectly in portrait.
I felt this question would be better served in the developer’s forum specifically in the thread dealing with the aforementioned ROM/Kernel but I can’t post there. I have followed best practices when it comes to flashing ROM's and I paid particular attention to the sequence recommended for this particular combo, but no joy.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Hello everybody.
I am quite new to the Android Development Scene but have some xperience in linux, c-programming microcontrollers (Atmel mega) and electronics.
A few weeks ago i changed my iphone 3gs to a Samsung Galaxy Note - best thing i did in a long time . I've been reading since, about custom ROMs, recovery, rooting and so on. It is a quite interesting topic.
I wouldn't mess um my Note, so i bought a Galaxy mini to play with. I got familiar with Kies and Odin, installed CWM Recovery and finally CyanogenMod 7. I am really happy because after the update today (0.5d) WLAN and Screen Orientation works as expected. I would've posted this in the DEV Section but i can't because of my NOOB Status (<10 Posts).
I have a small problem anyhow.
I've bought a very small keyboard (elive KB-250) Amazon Link)
which works fine except for the Layout.
So i've been reading some more and made a Layout which fits. I changed qwerty.kl and renamed it to Micro_Keyboard.kl and i made a new Micro_Keyboard.kcm. Now i am at the end of my knowledge because i can't find a possibility to convert the .kcm to kcm.bin. On the Android Developer Site the program "makekcharmap " is mentioned but i also can't find this.
Also i am not sure how to name the files correctly.
getevent says:
add device 6: /dev/input/event5
name: "Micro Keyboard"
so should i name it "Micro Keyboard" with a space?
Can anybody help me convert .kcm to kcm.bin?
And finally is there a database where i can post my Keymap file? I think this would be most helpful for other Layouts as well.
ny Help would be appreciated.
And BTW where is the fricking Thank you Button?

Thanks, i actually read the forum rules. IMO my question is Android related, that's why i posted it into the Android subsection.
Hi,
I'm not allowed to ask questions in the general Android section yet, but I have a fairly general question:
I've never really used the 'normal' emoticons when texting, usually opting for x), ^_^, >_<, etc
On the stock S1 Android ROM, the keyboard has built in smileys, but there a huge waste of space to me, and the new three-tier layout really kills typing some of the one's I like out. Is there any way to exchange the smiles for my own?
And while I'm asking the impossible of consumer software, is there a way to get rid of the stupid pictures that replace text emoticons? It bugs me when that happens, because the connotation is totally screwed up, and it just makes texting skillfully more difficult.
Hello
I have looked in all the forums speaking Arabic, I could not find anybody knows anything about this device never
They could not help me, they did not know many of this device
But I have hope of finding a solution to my problem in this forum wonderful
I want help in how to add Arabic to external keyboard for this device
I want to write in Arabic using the external keyboard to the device and not touch
It has been 3 weeks on the weary search in all the forums, but without the benefit due to lack of experts for this device
Help me please,
I apologize about the markedly bad language and expression
Not sure why you're calling me out specifically... I've told you repeatedly this is an English speaking forum - and I speak English. I don't speak Arabic. I use the keyboard to write, surprise! In English.
So if you want help with Arabic, you are going to have to ask in another forum or wait for someone else to answer you (which I mentioned in another thread that is unlikely for the reasons above).
Good luck.

Saying that people around here don't know about the device is absurd. We don't lack experts here, but since XDA is an English-only forum, almost nobody uses and cares about Arabian and therefore failed to help you in that particular way.
Feel free to let out your anger and turn to elsewhere for help.

Since JellyBean, it's easy to add custom keyboard layouts, they can be made available to system via a simple application.
For CM11 (which should support Arabic and other RTL languages quite well), I include AsantiKeypad application for that purpose - https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_motorola_moto_msm8960/tree/cm-11.0/AsantiKeypad
But to create an Arabic layout for the Photon Q keypad, it needs someone who's able to understand the glyphs and who's able to create the appropriate map.
If you know an already existing Arabic keyboard layout map made for Droid4, it could be easily incorporated in AsantiKeypad app.
Or try to make it from scratch, I'll merge it if I'll find the time for it and you'll keep bothering me about it long enough .

I know that this forum speaks English - and you speak English.
But you're the only one who mastered dealing with this device,
I've asked several forums in Arabic but not without interest did not find any response
Do you kindly help me?

We have created this forum for the exchange of information and help others regardless of tone or intellectual differences
We are all human beings and there is no need for racist ..
I hope some of their responses to be stimulatory or an encouraging
not disappointing
I have the highest thread I did not find a solution in other forums
This is what forced me to put my problem here, because of the lack of experts for this device
I wish I could show some sportsmanship and high morals my friend
This is the forum to help others regardless of cultures
If were not able to solve the problems of others, there is nothing wrong, but I hope not to interfere

What are you taking other devs for (especially those behind the scenes doing ground work for CM11 and other custom ROMs, like @kabaldan )?

True, although this forum is created with only English in mind, you often see people from other non-English countries or people that don't use English around here. I'm a Chinese myself so I partially understand why you're here for help - because we lack help in our home countries' forums.
However, as we're aware that both this forum and Android aren't made for all languages and cultures, even when we ask or answer questions in other languages, the question will be related to the phone itself, like how you fix reboots, how you flash a ROM, etc. These discussions have no language boundaries and can be understood by all.
As of your problem, it naturally involves another language which most people around here don't understand, and you see, forcing devs to learn a language and do the job only to fulfill a single request isn't realistic.
Talking about @kabaldan 's solution, he said that AsantiKeypad can import keyboard layouts, but he also said that there should be an Arabic layout available for importing first, which I Googled for you and sadly found nothing relevant. So, just like what he said, if there's none existing, then you have to find a dev who understands Arabic to write one up for you. Good luck with that.

So, wanted a keyboard-based phone, and I found one. I love how it feels, and how it operates, less three minor things. Well, kinda major, really.
Firstly, I have a overly-aggressive correction thingy when I type. My last phone would, say, if I type 'Haha' and it replaces it with 'Here', all I have to do is touch the backspace once, and it would correct itself, and restore the 'Haha' back, and I just touch space, and keep on typing.
This thing is evil. Instead of letting me, for instance type 'here', it would replace it automaticly with 'he're'. [Is that even a word?] It would -not- correct in the method I described above. I would -have- to go to setting>Input>Dictionaries>Add a word thingy to get it to keep 'here'.
The main thing I need to accomplish is making it so the replacing 'aggression', I would assume, is toned down. I know I could simply disable it, and all, but, I sometimes need the extra help, haha.
That's the first issue.
The second one, is that right by the 'A' button on the keyboard, there is a key that's a shortcut to this 'QuickMemo' uselessness. I have to hit back, and then resume typing, hopefully not hitting the button again. [And I say this, 'cause I have hit it a few times in one reply. x.x]
And, finally, when I get an SMS reply, it likes to show an IM-like window over whatever it is I am doing. It's more of just a minor thing that I -could- live with, assuming the other two issues could be resolved.
Any help would be appreciated!

I have two suggesrtions:

..you want me to not use my physical keyboard? Sorry, just trying to make sure I am understanding what you are recommending.
It was suggestion, but I know that a lot of users who have a physical keyboard prefer this type of keyboard that the other as Swiftkey ...
I haven't got any suggestions except to post your problem to Q&A forum (1st link)
Do you use Auto-correct on your keyboard,?
If yes, simply turn-off
Suggestion from one of my colleague XDA Team Assist @PulseDroid

I appreciate the reply, and your time you took into your post, however, I am trying to find an alternative to that. Again, I sometimes am not the best typer, so, I need some help sometimes.
I will, however, post on the forum as suggested.
