Checked sears outlet, seems the only refurb left at $280 is in Ohio. I see it in stock locally at Sears and some of the office supply chains for $400.

Agreed. I wish it cost me less too but even at $400 I am still very happy with it after installing and running VEGAn b5.1.
I got mine at for $399.00 at Staples, and I'd buy another at that price. You can get them online for as low as $369.00, might want to look into that if price is an issue.

I own both the nook and gtablet. I love both but they are two totally different devices. So depending on what you want and need, your choice might be more clear. If you don't care about a camera, processor speed, the ability to upgrade OS, size of the screen, usb ports, hdmi and the ability to play more video file types then you can save a ton of money with the nook. For what the XDA devs did for the nook is amazing. Its a very capable basic tablet. Couple that with the build quality and screen, the nook can easily be the best buys for an android device.
Thx xmr405o. I'll be reading books or news on it most of the time, so screen quality is a must. The gtablet looks so tempting though. May just go with the NC for a few months, then a decision on a 10" tab should be clearer. Thx again.

I am also interested in reading eBooks on this device (via the Nook app), but I want a tablet for much more than that. Is it really bad reading eBooks on this device?
Reading Books
I love my g tablet for reading. Never bothers my eyes at all. Especially with the Nook app to adjust background and brightness. The guys at XDA were the reason I bought the g tablet. Their mods were easy for me to install and I am a newbie at it. Can't keep it away from the better half now so may get another.

I read comics, magazines, newspapers, and books on this tablet as well as watching movies. The only thing that could be a negative is that it is a bit heavy and you notice that when you hold it in your hands for any length of time.
I've solved this slight issue with a foldable stand for it as well as a case with a kickstand so now when I know I'm going to be using this tablet for a duration for reading or watching something I simply use either one of those solutions.
I bought my wife a Nook Color reader from B&N which runs Android but this G tablet does so much more I don't mind the extra weight or the extra cost.
I paid $379 and got the free case from Sears. I've had it since 12/22 and I will probably return it this weekend, here why:
1) VS has not fixed the lag after sleep issue. Tired of rebooting this thing all of the time.
2) The browser crashes randomly. I think this is probably caused by the flash plugin.
3) The screen is really bad for a tablet. It hurts my eyes when viewing in portrait mode and has to be angled right to see even in landscape. Would be a great netbook screen, but does not work well in this device.
4) May not support honeycomb. The CPU and memory specs are there, but the display is the weak link. I also have doubts if VS will continue to invest support for this product
5) I can wait for the Asus or Motorola tablets that were announced at CES
I know most of these issue would be fixed with an alternate ROM, but I like having a warranty on things that I purchase new.

I don't think it's really bad. I use Laputa to read my ebooks on the G-tab and it allows me to read on landscape mode but portrait really doesn't bother me.

There is a news about the asus tablets on crunchgear and they said that asus will not be shipping the tablets until at least summer and it will not have honeycomb on them. The more i think about it, the gtab is a fair deal as we have at least 6 months to play with it and still have the chance to be upgraded to honeycomb in the future. The screen does not bother me that much, plus which OS does not have issues? I can stand with windows vista..and i can virtually deal with any OS issues.

Just picked up a "refurbished" gtab at sears outlet today. Turns out its a return that someone put vegan beta 3 on and didn't set back to stock before returning it. Had some issues so I started from square one and re installed everything and now it's running vegan beta5.1.1 with working market, flash, swype, side loaded facebook, twitter, launcher pro since they didn't show up in market. Thank you all for all the great posts. I was able to do all this from reading through the forum and searching. Next up is to test media players and steamers.

I'm getting mine from another forum user. It should be coming in a few days. Starting to wonder if i should have bought an Archos 101 though. After reading through the gtab forums there are some things that may make me regret buying such as
1) Uses too much battery during stand by
2) poor viewing angles on screen
3) archos can dual boot linux and android out of the box
4) archos has hdmi out port on the device
anybody used a archos gen 8 and can weigh in?
Archos is a pile of trash compared to this. The 101 is much slower and laggier. Not to mention the future of this tablet since its on the Tegra 2 platform.
1. I don't see that issue, I think mine just turns itself off after awhile, but last battery usage I saw was 24 hours at 35% life left.
2. They really aren't that terrible. If you have that concern go see if a store nearby has one or just wait for the one you bought to arrive and determine for yourself.
3. Woopty doo? Pretty sure that voids your warranty... Not to mention, what are you going to do on Linux that Android can't?
4. You know how many times I would plug something with HDMI into my tv? Once and say "That's awesome, I'll totally use this all the time" and then never do it again because it's extra hassle. But if you need that, grab the G Tab dock
You made the right choice with the G Tab.
EDIT: Almost forgot, the only thing I miss is the kickstand, lol.

I pretty much agree on all points, except that the linux part. Archos actually supports dual boot linux from the factory and the neat thing about that is you can use it as a full pc with linux applications like full version Open Office, GIMP, other powerful applications (im assuming). I guess its not that big of a deal for a ultra mobile device.

Paid $279. been watching there site for one near me for a few weeks till it poped up yesterday morning. also got a case logic bag/sleeve for it for $5.

I concur ... I would never stream from this device to my TV. For under $400, you can buy a pc with hdmi and toslink out and hook it to your TV .. I actually stream from this pc to my g-tab so I can watch movies on it. If I need to take some with me, I'll throw 'em on an sd card.
This thing has some quirks, but once you overcome those, I am having a blast with this thing...

I have enjoyed the fact that their are soooo many options to how you can set up your Tab. For me it has been fun just having something to tinker around with that hasn't been locked down so much that it makes customizing a MAJOR hassle. I didn't buy my Tab thinking it would be perfect, these tablet are still in the early stages of development. In a few years the newer tablets will be incredible devices that will all but replace laptops(IMHO)..

Speaking of early stages of development, how about nVidia announcing quad-code android tablets this summer..?
Bought mine at Sears way back at the end of November. After reading the threads concerning flashing the different ROMs I took the plunge and upgraded to TnTLite 4.1. Like you said, lots of good advice and I didn't have any trouble that couldn't be overcome by a little thread searching.

I question what the battery life will be like with Quad core. I think we are at a point where the tegra2 will do whatever we want. The limitations are really with the memory installed on the tablets.
Ive read through some of the posts on here already but here is my dilemma. I do not own a tablet of any kind. Lately i have been wanting to get one for 2 reasons. Having somethhing to work on thats not a huge laptop. Note taking, apps, some games, and movies. The 2nd reason is for traveling, i want a tablet for my kids to watch movies on when we drive.
Now i starting looking into the Nexus 10, and love it, but with no expandable memory, i feel very limited getting it. Even at 32GB, - OS and formatting, i think you are only looking at around 27/27 GB of space. Considering an average movie is about 1.2 - 1.6 GB per, i wouldnt be able to put a whole lot on the nexus 10 before being maxed out.
Hence comes in the TF700, i love the fax that it has 32 GB + expandable memory, i feel very comfortable in that regard, but have read plenty of people with issues with the TF700. I also love the fact that i can get a keyboard with it as well.
My next thought it price.
A 32GB nexus 10 is 499, + tax and shipping through google im looking at around $550 out the door.
TF700, looks like i can get it through Amazon for around $470 with no tax where i live, and free shipping. So there is the cost factor that plays into my decision.
I would prefer to keep my devices fairly stock. I do own a LTE galaxy nexus and love it. I did unlock the bootloader, but i run it stock. I would prefer a OS that looks a lot like my phone but this isnt a requirement.
Any thoughts/advice/help would be appreciated.

If you're on the fence, I would maybe wait until a couple reviews come out. The Nexus 10 would be great with kids because of Android 4.2's new muli-user functionality. With regards to the storage.. I think the 32GB should be enough for what you need. Even without a microSD. I would buy the nexus 10, but if you're really on the fence just wait until a few days after it's released to watch some good reviews. :good:
The battery life added by the dock really helps out though with kids watching movies. I'm in the same boat, although my son has motion sickness, so no reading/watching/playing for him in the car, and his sister doesn't care about doing stuff in the car (yet). They're 4 and 2, respectively.
I also find that the tablet/dock combo makes it easier to just stand the device on a tabletop or something and let them watch. Gives them something to hang onto, as well, and when snapped shut, it's also a bit more safe than a 'naked' tablet.
32 GB is probably a lot of storage, but with all my clips of the Swedish Chef, the Muppets, Sesame Street, Family Guy (for me, not for the kids), Leprechaun Plop, Bobo the Rabbit and so and so forth, I'm looking into 12 GB! That's not even adding the Smurfs in wide-screen cinema deliciousness, and all the Ice Ages and whatnot.
No, I'm perfectly happy with the 700 and all its storage options. Also, don't forget the possibility for quickie file transfers by USB stick! I managed to get the Smurfs on a USB stick while on vacation -- shame the HD TV would play from USB stick... </geek hero>
I have a 12.5 inch laptop so I never bothered to get the keyboard for the tf700. The tf700 lags horribly and is very frustrating sometimes for simple web browsing. I was just getting to point of throwing my warranty away and installing cleanROm but I'm going to just get a Nexus 10. I hate that it doesn't have microSD but I don't think I'll miss it much because the microSD performance in the TF700 is so horribly slow I barely used it.

You didn't use CleanROM, though, so you're missing out on the performance this device can and will offer had you tried it. Out of the box comparisons taken as the norm -- which arevalid on XDA only for noobs or the faint-hearted -- maybe the Nexus would provide slightly better performance. I say 'maybe' because the file I/O is as bad on the Nexus devices (tested with N7 -- reference somewhere in the forums) as it is on the entire Transformer range. I would be very hesitant to jump on the Nexus 10 bandwagon -- chances are you'll find out you've not gained anything in terms of performance, and actually lost in terms of options, including but not limited to the storage options the 700 provides.
Oh, and ermmm.... I don't know where you get the slow MicroSD performance from, because the I/O issue concerns (mainly) the INTERNAL storage -- my memory cards are as fast as they are/were in other devices I put them in. No issues whatsoever.

Here's a novel idea. Research the specs on both. Look at issues raised in appropriate forums. Then pick the one that works for you.
Personally, I'm hoping you get the Nexus 10. I'd rather have people who can't make up their own mind, or do their own research, posting on another forum.
This really is a decision that can only be made by you... Besides that, it's really hard to say exactly how the Nexus 10 performs since nobody even has it yet! I mean actual users. It amazes me the number of people that are saying that the Nexus 10 is a "beast" and that it will easily outperform the TF700, etc - that is all speculation at this point. On paper, the TF700 looked like the perfect device too, but as we all know, it has issues that didn't show up in spec sheets (slow I/O, QC issues, etc).
However, if the keyboard dock and expandable storage are important to you, I'd go with the Infinity. We don't even know if the N10 will offer a keyboard dock - and if it does, we have no idea what kind of features it will have (extra battery, trackpad, USB ports, etc).
If you do go with the Infinity, I'd highly recommend the following:
- Buy it at a local Best Buy - this way, if you have any defects with the device, you can quickly and easily exchange it, without having to worry about shipping, etc...
- Get a SquareTrade warranty for it (with accidental damage coverage). For an extra $90 or so, you get 2 years of worry-free usage. It's also important for the next recommendation.
- Unlock the bootloader and install CleanROM as soon as you know that you have a defect-free TF700. With CleanROM, the device performs so much better than stock. Really, it's a must-have!
If you do the above, I think that you will be extremely happy with the TF700 and it's performance. Plus, you'll have the awesome keyboard dock and the expandability that you need.

Im leaning to the nexus 10 32gb model, but well see if any specials or promotions pop up between now and then that might swing me the other direction.
Sounds like your issue is really about storage space.
I'm not up on all the Nexus 10 stuff. I'm sure it'll be a good device like the 7. Thus, I'm assuming no performance issues.
As for storage, the question is really is about how to do you plan on using your tablet. If you have a smartphone, that may help you. What kind of stuff do you store on it and how much of it. How many videos do you need to store on it versus want. So you want keep ten movies, that's about 16GB, which by your numbers, leaves 10GB for everything else. That's quite a bit storage for music and apps, unless you going to have a lot.
I think the issue is more of concern if you're going to be flashaholic or something like Boot Manager comes out for it so you can have and run mutliple roms.
If you don't want headache and working smooth and fast right out the box, get the Nexus 10. If you get the tf700 you going to have a lot of work ahead of you just to make it worth your money, even though the tf700 comes with more bells and whistles....

How do you know this? Have you used a Nexus 10? People sure are assuming a lot about the Nexus 10! How do we know that it doesn't have the same sort of I/O issues as the TF700? How do we know that it runs smooth out of the box once you start taxing it a little?
It might be true, but I'd wait until some XDA members get their hands on it before being so quick to assume that the Nexus 10 is going to be so perfect out-of-the-box...

This ^^ -- the Nexus 7 doesn't even fare that much better than the TF700, and it has a far smaller screen to power. I'm very glad with my purchase, and the Nexus 10 is not even on the radar.
im not sure why anyone hasnt mention On The Go. OTG is the ability to plug a USB memory stick into your tablet. there are actually two ways to do this. Tbe first is with an app you can buy for only a couple bucks, sorry i dont remember its name. The second is by unlocking and rooting your tablet.
i bought a nexus 7 when it first came out and knew id be traveking a lot later this year. so i roited and unlocked it. right niw i have 4 thirty-two gig sticks and 2 sixty-four gig sticks that i use with it on a regular basis.
ohh and sorry you do need an app called stickmount but its free.

I bought the huge adapter thing.
I hardly ever use it...actually I plugged it in once to check for function.
Works...it's kind of a waste of money for me anyway.
One of my least necessary purchases.
Android 4.2 was released to VOSP (or whatever it's called today.) Not being an Android user yet, I have no idea how long before a ROM will be available for the TF700 that includes the user profiles function. I too would LOVE that, having 2 kids.
I think Engadget's review was a great assessment of the two devices:
"In fact, other than a relative lack of resolution (1,920 x 1,200 vs. this guy's 2,560 x 1,600) the Transformer Pad Infinity TF700 is, we think, an overall better package. It's thinner, lighter, faster, has a much better camera, offers better battery life (particularly if you opt for the keyboard dock) and, frankly, we'd take the brightness and contrast of that 600 nit, Super IPS+ panel over this one with its extra pixels."
People are really obsessed with screen resolution now though, like they are with camera megapixels. Even though most content (web pages, etc.) the higher resolution poses no advantage whatsoever.

I'm also in the same boat, trying to decide between the two. I have a thread over in the Nexus 10 forum and unsurprisingly, the nexus 10 is winning the argument there with most people complaining about the lag and memory problems on the Infinity.
I'm stlil undecided though as I really liked playing around the with my brothers TF201, so the Infinity should be a step up i'd imagine.
Tough choice!!!!!!! Arrggghhhh.

Hello everyone. I'm trying to decide between buying a TF700 for this Black Friday, or wait a bit longer and get a Nexus 10 (it's not available in my country yet). I'd like to know if there are still technical issues with the TF700 or if they were fixed by ASUS either by software updates or by improving their manufacturing process. I've heard a lot about slow I/O on this tablet, is this still a problem ? Are there other thing I should be aware of when purchasing (like the screen lift on the Nexus 7) ? Thank you
There are several things you should be aware of including:
Screen lift
screen bleed
Slow IO
Slow stock software
low quality volume buttons(really low feels extremely cheap)
Dead pixels
Also the keyboard dock might cause some damages to the tablet itself depending on the usage.
Well i bought mine 3 weeks ago and i still have the slow IO and the screen lift/screen bleed and needed to change to custom rom to make it
usable..
i believe that alot of these issues will never be solved...
also asus has some of the worst support i have ever experienced so long story short dont buy unless you are happy with a slow

Trying to get the screen lift and screen bleed repaired while being unlocked seems impossible as asus rejects it. atleast thats what they are doing to me.
Slow I/O and slow stock software is all I have. I have no hardware-related problems, like the ones mentioned above. If I had, I would probably have traded it in before I unlocked it.

I'm extremely happy with my TF700!!!
The thing is this: Happy people are quiet people. They don't bother to go somewhere and leave a positive review. So what you'll find here is a handful of grumphy users, only a tiny segment of the thousands of buyers.
I'm very happy with my Infinity. No issues at all.
So a few games in the Playstore are listed as incompatible. How is this the device's fault?! (Yes, people are seriously whining about that.) That's like saying it's your cat's fault they don't sell Whiskas in the shop... Bloody ridiculous. The games work fine, anyway.

I wholeheartedly agree. If you search this forum you'll find lots of complaints of issues both real and unrealistic. I think many of the users with lag issues are pushing the tablet way beyond reasonable expectations. They represent a tiny portion of Infinity owners, the rest of whom are quite satisified the the tablet's quality, including myself.

Well if i had known that the tablet would begin to have screen lift which would then escalade and cause screen bleed after the first 3 weeks of use.
i sure wouldnt have bought or unlocked it in the first place... it had nothing when i got it... i have done nothing to cause these problems..
i always carry my tablet in a sleeve and never even leaves it laying on a table without placing it on top of the sleeve...
also the volume rocker is getting looser and looser the more i use it which is getting on my nerves
and actually i do know that the hardware issues will never be fixed.. as they never did on the tf200....
and btw i see no usable workaround for the slow IO speeds as i need the micro sd card slot and have more than one card.. so i cant just be limited to a non removable sd card due to data2sd..

That seems like something ASUS would do (or rather won't do). I have gone through 2 Nexus 7, both C90 that had the exact same issues that plagued the first batches (C50 and such). I returned them both and decided to choose a higher tier price product. I wasn't expecting something in this price range to have so many issues. Hope the Nexus 10 turns out better.

1: Yes, it is very widespread. It can be fixed with CustomROMs though.
2: No idea, tbh. I haven't looked into it.
3: I believe the dock is worth it, but you can buy the tablet without it. I use the dock a lot, and it's nice to have the extra battery power. Comes in handy.

Depends on what you use it for. It's got a USB port, SD slot and 4-7 hours of extra battery at intensive use. Plus it makes a great stand, and the keyboard is fully functional, it can be used to navigate, even. (it's 10'1"of OCD, so that helps keep the screen clean.) It also provides extra protection, as it closes like a laptop. (And charges whilst docked, even when asleep). I hate typing on a screen whilst holding said screen. it leaves marks, isn't comfortable and it gives me a sore neck. (I write entire novels. not 140 characters max.)
I don't know where you are, but some countries sell the tablet without dock, and some don't.

This ^^ and the fact that sideloading is so easy. You could even ask someone to install it temporarily and forward the apk or TiB files to you, and there are numerous sites that allow download of the apk files themselves anyway.

I've never understood the argument of presumably floppy volume buttons. How many times in a day do you actually adjust volume? It's practically always on Vibrate mode for me (and when I watch a movie or documentary, I changed it with a swipe on-screen -- DICE Player ftw). One of the most irrelevant arguments against the 700 in my opinion.

Same here -- only comes off when the kids play a game. I don;t have microscopically-enabled eyesight anymore (laser refraction surgery), but I cannot spot a single scratch either, no matter how tiny. Isn't that easy to accomplish on Corning's glass overall, unless you unleash unholy punishment on the screen. On any device, the odds are off, then... (I remember bragging about Gorilla Glass to some friends we were having over for dinner, and rubbing a metal spoon on the screen of my LG Optimux 2x. Very enthusiastically. It scratched. Clearly and obviously. )

Most LCD screens suffer from some form of light bleed due to the backlighting, but I've never had it to any appreciable degree on my device either.

By the way: Plants vs. ZOmbies is a good example of a "not compatible" game. Sideload it, get the data folder from a shady site (hell, you may even pm me) and it runs. Initial loading and level endings are pretty slow, but in-game, runs nicely.

Breda? or Zwolle? I took a motorcycle to Breda -- had it almost three weeks before the European release. My 700 has no issues at all. Not a creak, not a lift, not a scratch. Only I/O -- all units have this -- but a cROm fixed that.

With the exception of ASUS'poor choice regarding internal memory (see above), the other issues are relatively infrequent (and probably not that severe in most cases; note the use of the term "relatively"). I'm *very* happy with my CleanROMmed 700.

No, but you should've RMA'd the device. The cause is clearly on AUS'side, but you canot blame them for voiding your warranty before you actually made sure your device was OK. that's your responsibility as a buyer/unlocker. How do you know your actions (whatever they may have been) didn't cause or exacerbate the issues your device now seems to have? (I am not saying they did -- I do not know either.)

1. All units are affected, and gicen ASUS'track record with the TF201, all units released to market in the future will be affected.
2. Nobody knows except ASUS. Might be worth taking to Gary Key. I have an early unit without any issues, and so have lots of others in here. I do not believe the serial number is an accurate preictor of sorts for any issues that particular device may or may not have.

Zwolle. (Bit closer ) Took them half an hour to find the thing in storage xD The idiot came back with an iPad at first. I think he's still a bit scared of me, saw him here recently at Media Markt, he ran away! xD
I'm really disappointed. Such a powerful CPU/GPU combo, such a good display (at least resolution-wise, there aren't many other Android tablets that can compete with the retina iPads from this point of view) and ASUS had to ruin it all by making these small mistakes (well, the I/O thing is not so small) and, even worse, not invest anything into fixing them. I think I'll wait for the Nexus 10 and hope that Samsung took its time designing it and ironing out all the bugs.

Are you such a scary lady? Mmmmh.... Hahaha! Mine was dumped in a framework container with some TF201 Primes -- unlabeled, no pricing, no advertising. The girl I asked first didn't know what I was talking about and went to some guy to ask, and he turned out to be the one who dumped them there just 15 minutes earlier. Hadn't even had the time to look up for which price they were leaving the store.
I'm sure you'll be happy to hear the Nexus 10 has ANR errors in the browser, too, then. ...Not happy with it? Oh well.

I'm generally considered rather frightening, yes.
Over here in the Media Markt they often enough don't even know it's called a Tablet, and not an iPad. They just assume iPad is the name for all tablets. And if you want a non-Apple product, they're somewhere in the far back corner behind all the junk.
The problems that seem to be hardware-related (an therefore not fixable through a software update) are the light bleed, the crappy battery life (which is not all that bad but, still, doesn't even come close to the iPad) and, maybe, the WiFi connectivity issue. I have to admit, those don't look too good. And I bet that, as time passes, more will be found. I always wondered why so many people go the iPad route instead of choosing an Android tablet. It's the apps, sure, but also the feeling of a higher quality product. So, in the end, what's the best high-res Android tablet ?

I have been given an opportunity to buy this tablet with the dock for not much money. It's second hand but used lightly and in great shape. The price is about 25% lower than the price of a NEW Asus Nexus 7 16GB in my country (no google play store here ).
My main concern is that it could be outdated. I had an Tegra 2 device (optimus 2x) and it was a pain to load any custom roms on it. I could only load Gingerbread roms on it. Sold it very quickly.
Is the TF101 showing its age? Does it run smoothly and are your batteries in good condition after this period? Any problems with apps? Games?
This would be my first tablet, so i'm not very much informed about them. I have been in the market for one a long time (1 year) and this is the first good opportunity I have seen. I would use it mainly for writing at college, some web browsing (flash running ok?) and casual gaming.
So would you recommend it now?

Only if you get it VERY cheap. And I say that as a TF101 owner.
The Tegra2 SoC is ****. It cannot play back standard 720p scene MKV-files without recording. Much less 1080p. XBMC and similar products don't want to support it because it lacks NEON-support which makes it easy to offload video-decoding to the GPU. Only thing I've gotten to play in a watchable state (but with occasional stutter) is Futurama.
It has also been plagued by unstable firmware updates, random reboots and sleeps of death. Asus has completely abondoned it and no further firmware updates are expected.
Your only chance of getting this tablet past ICS and onto JB (and whatever comes next, whenever that comes) is through third-party ROMs. If you get a model you can root. You may or may not be that lucky. Asus never unlocked the bootloader for the TF101.
So yeah. Unless you get it very cheap ($100 and less, keyboard dock included), I say no. Not worth it. There's much better things you can buy these days.

Basically you will be paying 75% of the price for 25% of the goods.
You will be paying almost full price for a discontinued product instead of one still receiving updates, and one being ensured good support, both from AOSP/Google and from the Android community.

Get the serial number, and make sure it is Not a 3G variant, haggle it down to 200-225 and it would be worth it IMO.

I'm going to disagree with all of you guys about the 200 USD Price... That's completely ridiculous for an used TF101. I got my TF101 2011, last black friday, at bestbuy for $249.99 and with all the cases and other stuff I got for that device it came around $270. (This is without the dock and it was brand NEW).
Now this device is outdated and I see listing on ebay for the device used for around $75 with dock. NOT Worth it; you can buy better stuff.
Clocked at 1.5GHz mine plays practically any 720p scene release I throw at it.
DTS support can be a pain but other than that, no issues.
I'm not exactly sure what and how much of it you need to smoke to find them on Ebay for $75 with dock though, docks alone go for that price or above.
I bought my TF101 from a friend and we both looked at current eBay prices. I agreed to $200 for tablet and dock and I agree that someone must be high if they think they can get that for $75 on eBay. Just doing a quick search, I see one without a dock that's at $177 with 6 hours left and a refurb with dock at $275 - these prices are pretty typical of what I've been seeing, too. Refurb's a bit high in price, but not ridiculous compared to the $250-ish average we'd been seeing.
Additionally, using the awesome eValuator app, $220-260 is average and that goes to $280-299 when I search "TF101 and dock".
Even the ones that are broken and won't power on are still going for over $100.
To the OP, I would recommend making a choice depending on if you want a 10" or 7" tablet. I don't think 25% less is a great deal if you really only want a 7" tablet. I was actually looking at the N7, too - when I was shopping, I went with the TF101 because I liked the keyboard dock, I trust my friend that nothing is messed up with it, and I wanted the 10" size. I'd tried some 7" tablets and since my phone is 5" the 7" tablet wasn't a big enough difference to appeal to me.
I also appreciated how easy the TF101 is easy to take apart if I want to replace the battery. I think it's a great design and I wish newer tablets still had these features.
I've had this for maybe a month and I have no complaints. I have watched Netflix in HD on it for a few hours at a time and had no issues - I don't know how this differs from other video playback, but perhaps I'm not picky, I thought it looked fine (and there wasn't any stuttering). I don't really play any intensive games on it, so I can't comment on that. I'm on stock ICS rooted right now, but going to mess around with ROMs.
Best Android tablet from it's time, hands down!
If you can get a refurbished one (they seemed to be everywhere at one point) then it's worth it. I found the tablet and the dock at different stores for under 250$ two different times and haven't had any issues with them whatsoever (I have 2). B&H had the refurb dock for 99$USD I think newegg was 120$CDN... but that was a while ago.
I'm running JB 4.2.1 and overclocked to 1.6GHz, watching 720p mkv natively in mplayer without any lag or issues. The dock makes it a must once you get used to it and learn the hotkeys and the extra battery time kicks ass! The USB ports means I can connect a usb to serial adapter to connect to devices at work, no need to carry around the laptop... or just connect external ntfs storage or whatever.
Overall I'm very satisfied, the only "problem" I have is the lack of updates from Asus but oh well, there are some awesome devs working here to bring us the best. I'd go watch the other forums on xda to see how active other tablets/devs are, compare your choices to make an informed decision.
My wife owns a Nexus 7, I own a TF101 w/ keyboard dock.
I'd take the TF101 hands down.
That isn't to say the Nexus 7 isn't a wonderful tablet. But I use my TF101 almost as much as a work computer; the larger screen and durable build, the nice speed even if it is a dual-core instead of N7's quad, the 1.5ghz (overclocked via EOS 4 Rom) speed.... I love this thing.
I love my wife's Nexus 7 mainly because it is small enough to fit in some pockets and very light.
You have to figure out what you want from your tablet and proceed accordingly. I'm a firm believer that trailing edge technology often is a much better deal than chasing after the newest (the minute you leave the store it too is trailing edge!).
The price range on these is almost NEVER below $200, and that is without a keyboard. The poster w the neg comments early on is either badly misinformed about everything he mentioned or just trolling. Easiest way to test that thesis? Go to either Amazon or Ebay (w/ sales where time is almost out) and note the price ranges there. Even Craigslist, where I got mine for a steal ($225 w/ keyboard). Read the other comments, make a list of what you expect from your tablet, and go for it. Both tablets are great in different ways.
And did I mention my wife says she sorta covets my TF101?
One add'tl edit.... The TF101 has TWO SD-Card slots, a mini-HDMI output, TWO USB ports (on keyboard), and a few other jingles. Nexus 7, like its competitors (iPad, Nook, and KindleHD) have few to none of them. Just another thought...

Also, I got mine for $250 new in 2011 (That was when this tablet was good/ at the top of the market)- it was a black friday doorbuster. The BB Mobile store near my house had stock when I went in.
There are better tablets out there that will go on sale and I personally wouldn't buy a USED TF101 unless if it was $100 or less.

Newegg has the TF101 for $250 refurbished right now, and the dock for $99.
Big sales really can't be used to determine going price and market value. eBay averages are really the most accurate measure of what people are currently asking and what people are willing to pay.
I just cashed in a a Newegg super deal a few days ago, myself - and that's what it was, an awesome super deal that was way below the market price.
If a person wants to hold out for a super sale that may or may not happen that's their choice.

For example, I can buy a 9.7 inch Prestigio multipad with 1 GHz and 1 GB RAM for 350 USD - USED.

I'll keep my tf101 until I stop setting value in it, but Asus/nvidia seriously oversold the thing and I'd be lying of I said I was 100% happy about it when I got it delivered.

you, my friend, are a liar and/or a fool. you will NEVER find a tf101 "under $100" unless it was broken. you will also NEVER see a new one for $150. period. look at ebay....cheapest place to find anything most of the time. good luck finding one with the keyboard for under $275. and good luck finding one without the keyboard under $200. USED. most of them listed that are $100-$150 are BROKEN. learn to read. cracked screen...chipped case....sound doesn't work....the $100 to $150 ones are severely abused transformers. if you can get one for $250-$300 with the keyboard dock, you have a good tablet that's worth the money. period. if you're not completely retarded and can follow basic instructions from this very website, you can then put the newest CM10 nightly build on the tablet, overclock it to 1.5Ghz or more, use "swapper" to make a 1GB swap partition, and you have - in theory - a 1.5Ghz, 2GB ram tablet with 2 usb ports, a keyboard, an sd slot, micro sd slot, hdmi out, the newest android OS....and in the 10.1" form factor. you can't find that ANYWHERE else on the market. people on here that say otherwise simply don't know what they're talking about. stock, it's a good tablet. modded, it's by far the best buy for your money and will smoke most others on the market that are three times the price (you know, the big goofy white ones) in performance, features, and all-around look and feel.
Just to update you guys... I have bought the tablet today. I like it pretty much. Finding the screen a bit awkward when using in portrait mode though.
It's kinda heavy, but I'll get used to it, after all, it took me some time to get used to a 4.65" mobile phone screen. I rooted it and I am still using the custom rom, as I usually do with all the stuff I buy. Eventually I will put a custom ROM on it because I had some serius hickups and a reset.
As far as the price point goes, I think that I couldn't have bought a better tablet for this price. I paid about 270 USD for it and it even has some of the plastic foil on it. Not even a scratch.
Now im off to find a custom ROM that has the ability to use all the buttons on the keyboard and thats overclockable.
Google Now and pinch to zoom in emails would be great too.

I know you've already bought it, but I wanted to chime in that comparing my TF101 to my son's Nexus 7, I'd take the N7.
I liked the TF101 a lot, but as others mentioned, the stock firmware had become unstable. I had apps crash and freeze, even when I wiped and reflashed it. Unfortunately, the 4.2 ROMs are okay but lack some features. For example, I've seen some complained that the dock keyboard isn't fully functional. One of my complaints with the custom ROMs that I've tried is that Google Talk crashes anytime I try voice/video chat.
I'll still use, but I admit that I covet a newer tablet with the quad core.
Keyboard dock and Google Talk fully working here on 4.2, although I'd rather use Google+ Hangout for video chat.
