MicroSD card wont show up.. help please? confirm my theory maybe? - General Questions and Answers

well i sure packed a lot into that title huh..
micro sd card worked fine in phone (16gb sandisk class2), dropped phone, screen cracked, and got a new one. put the micro sd card in the new phone and it didnt see the sd card.. so i put it in my usb adapter and plugged it into windows7.. still nothing.. checked disk manager too.. that didnt show anything either.. i did some googling, and it lead me to think that the sd card could possibly have been encrypted (set a password) while it was in my old android gingerbread phone. would this cause it to not show up whatsoever? its possible i could have set a password once upon a time on the sd card and not remember doing it.. if i did i probably remember the password, but i cant get to a point where it even reads the phone to ask for a password..
this is everything i know.. anyone have any thoughts? ill give "Thanks" to any feedback, thanks. =/ so many memories on this card..

It could've easily been broken when the phone was dropped.

ive considered this.. but these things are tough as nails.. it was inside the phone.. the screen cracked, but the phone still worked.. i cant imagine one of these things stopping working anything short than it physically breaking..

Would surprise me too, but its an idea.

Did you partition it or something ?
Anyhow how could you not remember setting password ? It is possible that you forget the password itself but not remembering even setting it up is going too far i guess !

yeah.. i dont think i set any password.. but i have no idea how i can explain what happened.. nothing will see it.. what could cause that?

If Windows won't even detect it as a device then I'm sorry to say it's probably dead. Windows may not be able to read Linux file systems, but it should still be able to see the device no matter what the file system or if it's encrypted. In either case it would just see it as corrupted or unformatted, but still operational. Try another SD card in the phone.
EDIT: It also could be that your MicroSD adapter doesn't support SDHC. Did it work in this adapter before the event?

SD card has to reformatted quite often.

Hi guys, did a sesarch on this but I couldn't find anything.
I am a typical flash-aholic. I have had good luck with most of my flashing as I have never had any of the problems I read about that other guys have, so I don't think I am doing something out of sequence or negligent that is causing my problem.
My external sd card fries on me aout once a week. I used to keep ALL my media files on it, i.e., music, pics, ect. But now I keep only files that may get me out of a jam if my phone quits (do to a funky ROM) and I am not near a computer.
This will not happen after a flash, but just out of no where when I am using it for daily use.
I will get a message saying external SD card is damaged, and I have to reformat. This happens everytime, for what ever reason the phone needs to scan the sd cards. For example, after I have disconnected from a usb connection with my PC. It generally will happen after it boots up.
I wonder if it is my phone, or just a lemon of an SD card.
It is an Sandisk 8gb HC.
THanks in advance for any responses.
The Scientific Method
-----
1. Swap out SD card with another.
2. Observe.
3. Q: Does the card work fine?
-A) Yes
-B) No
[Conclusion]
If A), then your first card is fried.
If B), then your phone is screwy.
I can has monets now?

Yes, as genius as your idea is, I thought maybe I could gain some insight here first before going out and buying another card.
If I knew what "monets" was, I would surely send some your way.

I've asked the same question before. No worries. I've tried 3 different microSD's. One was actually bad, but the other two seems perfectly fine in other devices. Yet when I reboot I'm sometimes told the card needs to formatted.
For you though, it could just be the microSD so ya I would try another.

Thanks for the response David.
This has happened about 5 times. Only once was I able to reboot again, and it be ok. The other 4 the card was truly fried and I had to format.
I will try a new card per your experience.

Micro SD Card Issue

im having an issue all of a sudden where the external sd card wont delete anything i tell it too. i mount it to the computer and delete things that way and copy things on but when i disconnect everything is like it was nothing happened.
also formatting it in setting via storage did nothing all the files are left in perfect order
Ive even mounted to the computer, formatted in MY COMPUTER and it says its completely empty. Then i unmount it and guess what nothing was touched. can someone please help
I take that back even deleting within my files does nothing.
I just stuck in my sandisk 16gb class 4 and it isnt having any issues so it must be the 32 gb sandisk class 4 is the card messed up?
I'm using it with a skyrocket and im on skyics with the latest base. I'm posting here because this card has been in many other phones and never had an issue till now
pwnerman-
Reading your description of the issue .. have you tried physically removing it from the phone and inserting (either by adapter or multimedia slot as most computers have now-a-days) directly to your computer ?
Meaning .. have you tried doing this without it being in the phone ?
Yes .. I snapped at you in the thread and I apologize .. with all the BS going on in there, more and more people are getting on edge.
My answer in the thread also stands in regards to how the card is formatted. I honestly do not know your experience with computers .. thats why I threw it in there.
I have a Sandisk 64GB card in my Skyrocket running Seans latest ROM .. only way I could format my card FAT32 was actually using a single command line program called "fat32format.exe" .. and with ALL of Seans ROM's, I have never had any issues with SDCards at all.
Here is my original thread about the Sandisk 64GB http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586295
I've done everything but attaching it directly to the computer because I have no adapter to do so. I bought one of the cheap dollar ones on Amazon a few hours ago. I've used that card in like 10 phones on triple as many roms and never had a issue till now. I do think it could be a Rom issue because the other Guy was having issues and this was the first time I did anything on the card since switching to the 4.0 skyics Rom.
I even put it in my captivate and it wouldn't even format in recovery mode. So I honestly don't know considering it wont work in the captivate either

[Q] cyanogenmod 10 and problems mountind a 64gb microsd card.

Im going to pull my hair out. I finally managed to root/upgrade to cyanogenmod 10 and now i cant read my external 64gb microsd card. It use to work just fine in my stock Asus Infinity and now it doesnt. I tried using other mounting methods, but they were meant for other devices(like Evos, Galaxy, whatever). It can read other microSd cards, like 32gb and 8 gb, but i dont want my 64gb going to waste. Can someone help me and i apologize for being a pest.
I do not have my 64 GB yet -- I'm still a little wavering about ordering the Sandisk Ultra Micro SDHC Card 64GB Class 10/UHS-z as the reports of it working or not vary -- but I am curious as to how it is formatted. That might help the more knowledgeable folks out in determining the root cause. I gather it did work on stock? Can you try and reflash CROMI (after making a nandroid backup) and see if it works again?
I have a Sandisk 64GB MicroSD UHS-1 card (the red and grey one) and it works beautifully on CROMI

Works fine in both.
It use to work fine before I installed cyanogenmod10. To get it to work on the original operating system, I had to format it in my phone to create the partitions because it wouldnt recognize the card in the tablet (wouldnt let it mount or anything). I tried doing the same thing again this time and it didnt work(not allowing it to mount). Im inserting the microsd directly into the tablet.
BTW, thanks for the replies so far, I do appreciate it. Any info is useful
Sounds like a cm issue. Have you asked other cm users if they have similar issues?

No problem, that's what we're in here for. Partially...
What filesystem did you format to? Have you tried redoing it? GParted has been good to me, I don't know what system you have to your disposal to reformat. Why are you doing multiple partitions -- are you aiming for the data2sd mod? Have you tried making it a single partition? If you insert it into your phone, it does work, I gather -- if you make copy a file to the card, is it actually written?

I did a quick format on the computer, Fat32, then I formatted it in my HTC Evo 4g LTE because thats how I was able to get it to mount/read originally in my unrooted/unmodded tablet. It works on my phone no prob. As for the other questions, I think i worded my problem kind of wrong, because I wasnt trying to do any fancy kind of partitioning; i just want my sd card to work. Sorry for any confusion
EDIT!!:
So the plot thickens! After a random reboot, I was able to get the tablet to recognize the card...and then when I powered it down and backup, it lost it. It seems it randomly recognizes the card after a reboot(but not all the time). UGH!

Windows not recognizing Micro SD card?

I have the 2 GB one that came with my Note installed. I decided to root it today, got CWM installed. Now I am attempting to install a ZIP from my SD card, but the computer only sees the internal storage, and CWM apparently doesn't have an option for that...
Any suggestions?

Can you tell us what format the sd card is in.
.
How do I check that?
It's whatever it came as. I literally took it out of the box and put it in the tablet.
Sorry I'm new to the tablet world! I'm much better with my S3
Wow... Sorry guys. I guess I'm not all the way awake yet. I forgot I had taken the card out because I meant to put my spare 32GB in...
So of COURSE it doesn't recognise anything. Because there's nothing there to recognise.
Can I delete this topic? I'm embarrassed. -_-

Lately I have seen many posters asking to have there posts removed, in this case it maybe OK as OP is embarrassed but in other postings the OP says something like this "I figured it out please remove this posting" I think they should be telling the rest of us what they did to fix the problem like this OP did even though it was embarrassing.
Many of us have the same issues or a brain fart from time to time that we solve ourselves but your mistake or brain fart may help somone else.
Soooooo..... emirae, I once could not find my glasses because they were on top of my head. LOL
Well yeah. If I had actually figured out a helpful solution, I would definitely leave it up in case anyone else had the same issue.
But obviously I was just a fail this morning!

Recovery Mode Logs

I was looking through my logs and saw some odd lines saying that an SD card was inserted or used something along those lines. However, this is a brand new Samsung Galaxy 8 +and I have never inserted an SD card. Why would the logs say an SD card was inserted when I have never inserted one.
I understand it may say something about looking for an SD card but this actually says an SD card was inserted.
Can somebody help answer this question for me thanks.

Possible just a test during production, though I'd be surprised if they checked every phone these days but it might have been one in a sample batch.

I could see that, but I also noticed a few rooted programs on my phone, which I did not download, so I am seriously thinking I was hacked, but have no idea how. The odd thing is I did not download these rooted programs and I am sure they were not installed based on a backup from my previous phone. Someone else had to have put them on there.
Is there a for sure way i can tell in the logs if my phone was hacked from an external source? If so, how the heck do I make sure they do not get back in. Someone was telling me they had created an additional partition, which does not sound right since from my understanding they would have had to wipe the phone and started from scratch to do this, but the phone was not. I am really confused as to whats going on.
