[Q] Some very basic questions about new ROM

Hi! I have a US Cellular Samsung Galaxy S (SCH-I500). The current OS is android 2.3.5. I know that this will never get ICS or Jelly Bean, so I am thinking about using this as my first foray into Rooting/Modding. I would like to see Jelly Bean on this phone, but will settle for ICS.
I have spent the day reading post after post. I know more now than I did when I started, but still not sure how to proceed. I am really looking to upgrade the UI, but want stability and full functionality.
1. When done, do I still use the Google Play store?
2. Will the camera, text, phone, etc. all work?
I am looking for a Jelly Bean OS (ROM?). I have downloaded AOKP fancinatemtd jb milestone 1. Will this work on my phone, or is there a better fix?
Looking at this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070
I am not sure if this is the right set of instructions? If they are, at what point do I use the AOKP?
As you can tell, I am very confused and would appreciate some step by step direction. Thanks.

[Q] Porting From an Older Version of Android to a Newer One

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some information on porting from one version of android to a higher version. Preferably from 1.6 Donut to 2.2 Froyo or 2.3 Gingerbread. Is this even possible?
Also, could anyone tell me what phone I could use that is similar to the Behold II (SGH-t939)? Is the Behold II in the cyanogen repo? If it is, anyone know it's codename?
I have a build environment set up for cyanogenmod, and I followed this guide. I have got to the gpg import and was wondering if the gpg block is device specific somehow or if it is universal.
Tying in to my first question, is whether there is any way I could get the proprietary files and kernel information out of a rom file instead of off the phone. I have a custom rom installed on the phone that isn't working 100% but I don't really want to put the oem rom back on. Unless I absolutely have to.
Also, once I do actually get the proprietary information and kernel stuff, how exactly do I incorporate all that into a new build?
Sorry, I am just starting to learn about android development and need some guidance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

[Q] Tricdroid GE & AR HD GE 2.0

Hello everyone,
So today was my first day into the world of unlocking, rooting, and flashing custom Roms onto my android device and I have a few questions I'm hoping can be answered easily by someone with much more experience. I have an HTC One on at&t also.
So I downloaded
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192324&highlight=google+edition
and then,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2356654
I got both Roms running besides I realized that my phone was stuck on 3g/H no matter what I did in the settings. Now I followed both steps perfectly but I'm still with no luck.
So after feeling defeated I decided to download Android Revolution 12.1 and everything worked perfectly. Full Lte it says but under the network tab it says my mobile type is HSDPA at -93 dBm 10 asu.
What's the deal? Am I missing a step? Can someone please help me? I would really enjoy getting the Google Editions to run with LTE because I prefer stock Android. Well thanks for your time guys. Please help a Rom noob out!

[q] help with cornerstone!!!

Hi,
Am I able to flash Cornerstone over my current ROM (CM 10.1) or do I have to install an entire Cornerstone ROM?
I have a Motorola Xoom 3g (Everest)
If I have to install a new cornerstone ROM, can someone please point me in the right direction for my device.
Much appreciated,
Thanks

[Q] Please Help (Noob) Android 4.4.4 to 5.1 Possible ?

Hello, I was hoping to get some help from the community. I have a Nexus 5 (Sprint) running stock Android 4.4.4 rooted with TWRP (v2.6.3.1). I wanted to know if I could make the jump to Android 5.1 (not 5.0.1) since it seems like Google has address all of the major issues I had with the original release of Lollipop. Please I am still very new to the rooting scene so it would be of great help if someone could point me in the right direction and offer guidance. I have tried to to search the forums to see If I find a threat like this one but I haven't had any luck. Thank you for your help in advance.
P.S: Although I am running stock, I did modify the WiFi tethering : "Settings Storage">"settings.db">"global" in case that matters somehow.
