Disable Power button? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hey y'all, is there a way to disable the power button. My power is giving me major issues an if I touch it, it will make my phone reboot over and over. Is there an app that will help me remap my buttons?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2

It sounds like you have an issue that is a common one for the Infuse, namely the power button wearing out or getting contaminated... Result being a tendency to stick "on", which leads to screen on or reboots.
Search the forum for "clean power button" ... you should find a thread with info on repair services and do it yourself solutions.

I took my phone apart already and cleaned it as well, but it sti'll sticks. So I was wondering if there is a way the I can disable the power button.?

I'm not sure about this, but I suspect the long press of power triggering reboot is in the hardware...
Someone else may know better.
When you cleaned your phone did you disassemble to get access to the back of the button and use a cleaner like CRC QD electronic cleaner squirted in from all possible directions?

I did take it apart but I used an air can.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2

CRC QD restores the electrical contact to normal operation. You might want to try that. It's available from Amazon.
Short blasts from all directions allowing dry time in between. A final air blast after wouldn't hurt. Give it another 5 min or so to completely dry then reassemble.

There was an app somewhere here on xda called Button Remapper that did exactly what you're asking to do, disable or set up another button to do that task. Or you can try galaxy tuner on the market. Says it has that option.
Use these apps at your own risk.

Power Button Problem

Hello guys, I just want to know is there any way through which I can increase the sensitivity of the power button? My phone is now one year old and I've found that the power button is very annoying. If any new person happens to use my phone, he is to be taught to apply a bit more force to the power button to lock the phone.
Also, long press is difficult! It's very difficult to take screenshots (with CM ROM that has power button screen shot option).
When I long press to take a screenshot, after releasing the button, the phone sleeps and gets locked. It happens several times and to take one screenshot I have to face it almost five times. I think it is because of dust that gets collected below the plastic button, is there any suggestion from you that can make my finger's life easy??? :banghead:
Uhh, and do not suggest opening the phone body and clean it!!!

And how does a topic come under 'favourites' section of the xda premium app??? Such a stupid question but I am really not finding a way out!!!
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
Same problem. Isn't much you can do with the power button. It's mechanical so to fix the actual button you would have to open up the phone and fiddle in there. (don't try this if you don't know what you're doing)
I, for one, am using this mod. It works on the rom level, not the phone itself so it needs to be flashed every time you install a new rom (even when it's the same one but different version) and it won't work when the phone is completely shut down, you still have to use the power button.
Oh yeah! I knew that mod but forgot!
Well then, for now I use a screen locking widget... but still to unlock power button is required...
Will have to stay with it only.. :banghead:

Oh, and yeah, that same widget allows to lock the phone by long pressing search button.

Can't you just press any other button, like menu or the back key, and slide to unlock?
same problem with volume keys also

Yes I know I can, but sometimes just to see notifications or time, I don't take out the phone from the cover, only its head...

[Q] BRICKED Infuse....Maybe unfixable?

So basically I have tried every which way to fix this freaking phone from not bootlooping. I've had the similar problem, but somehow managed to get it to stay in download mode before, just so i could get it to flash a stock rooted rom, but now that doesn't even work. It just randomly started looping on me. This video shows what I mean....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BHn7mxQdQY&feature=plcp
When it got back to Samsung, were you able to do 3 finger salute and get into recovery. Hold power down till logo goes away. Fingers on vol up and down then release power button. See if that works. Jig kick started it but you might need to take it the next step.

Yeah I've definitely done that. But it just keeps going to the logo. When I put the battery in it automatically starts boot looping.

Your power button is faulty.
You can open up your phone and try cleaning the contacts.

Yeah that's what I thought, when you say the power button contacts, would that be the little white button inside?? I've taken it apart and done my best to get it unstuck or something.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Not quite sure. I have never had the need of dismantling my phone, but I have read something about the contacts, which sounds to me it could be beneath that white button.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Thanks I'll give that a shot!
Edit* Couldn't find anything to clean, next step is the mother board i suppose,,,

Stuck power button

So my galaxy s2 skyrocket has a stuck power button. Lately it getting worse, because multiple times a day it just turns off and vibrates until I do something. I'm currently on vacation so I can't take it apart here. Is there any easy fix and/or app that can replace the turning on the phone with a different button? I have done anything about it because I'm getting a new phone soon.

Yes there is a software fix. Search the other threads on this issue as I don't rember what it is.

I tried doing that and resulted in nothing. I am very tempted to send it to mobiletechvideos.

Why?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
I am doing it because I bought this phone under the condition I knew it was a faulty button and it worked for a while and lately has been acting up more and they can install a new one.

Power switch troubleshooting, teardown and fixes
Suddenly I had the power button problem too yesterday. I was watching the screen and it locked and vibrated like a FC. Then it shut down into a permanent 2.5 sec. intervals vibrating boot loop.
Recovery and Download modes were therefore unreachable. I could see one Samsung logo on the way to Recovery or quickly tap volume up at the Flash Warning screen and see the download Android go by before forced restart. Good, because the correct troubleshoot is that simply inserting the battery begins the loop. (It's your power button then!)
The external power switch remained spring loaded (physically operational), but ineffective. The problem is more internal. Tapping it on the table edge didn't help. I took out the battery, SD and SIM cards and seven cross head screws. Unsnapping the i727's back cover was easy using my fingernails; beginning with the slack space surrounding the volume rocker with the opposite hand clawing gently in the battery well, then threading your way around the case edge. The rocker freely floats out of position, so don't let it fall too far!. It is easily threaded back into position for reassembly.
Inside the external power switch's location is the plastic power button (short cylindrical nub on molded plastic block). That too was still spring loaded and physically operable, but ineffective versus the boot looping.
In my case, the hardware fix came by peeling up the corner of the mainboard nearest the button and blowing a few times, with the button edge facing down so gravity helps clean out any dust.
I tested by inserting the battery (voila! no vibration) and booting before shutting down for reassembly. I had a good soft screen lock button on my home screen's Widgetsoid custom widget and had largely ignored it. Now I have added the Smart Screen ON app and will use both. SSO offers both functions if you like. Thanks to the members who pointed out the troubleshooting, teardown and fixes detailed here.

[Q] Power Button hard to press

For the last year or so my lock button has gotten harder to press and doesn't have that "click" feel to it. Does anybody know why this is or how to fix it?
EDIT: my power button stopped working all together. If anybody knows how to fix this or turn my phone on without adb(to switch batteries), it would be greatly appreciated.

take off you back cover and see if the plastic button got somehow trim
try also to press the power button with a toothpick or with your finger
to check if you have the same hard pressing
I have 2 back covers and both of them seem fine. How can you tell if they got trim? I used my finger and a sharp object, they both turn it on but it feels the same

hmm, i don't know what else to suggest
did the device ever fell from your hands and hit in that spot?
if yes maybe it can cause that issue
well i tried to clean out the dust with a can of air and it blew out this little film thing and now it doesnt work at all hahaha but i got the device set up to use the vol up button as a power button but it is only recognized when it is powered on. does anybody know how to boot the device without adb? im currently using adb to start but its a pain to have a computer around to start the phone. i switch batteries a lot so its really inconvenient. btw i noticed that the phone doesnt turn off if you remove the battery in bootloader if it has a usb cable plugged in but i cant select any of the options without a power button

[Q] Help Disabling Power Button?

My GS3's power button is jammed and i rebinded holding the home button down to turn off the screen. If I move the device or slightly touch the power button it thinks its being held down. I'm running a CM11 nightly, is there anyway i can edit a file and disable the button all together?
Try the xposed module Xposed Additions - you can rebind press/long press of the power button to do nothing.
Alternatively, you could edit the key files directly - check system/usr/keylayout, and open sec_keys.kl with a text editor and put a # in front of the power key line. You might have to comment out the power key line in generic.kl too, then reboot and power button will be totally disabled.

I had this same problem on my gs3 a few months ago. It is a hardware problem, not caused by your rom.
What I did, is I found a guide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867253 ) that walked me through flashing everything back to stock. I then took it to the store, and they hooked me up with a replacement.
The guy at the counter had never seen it before, but it was clear that it was a hardware malfunction, and therefore not my fault.
Maybe you can do the same

I would do this as well but I don't think I can flash the unsecure bootloader on the replacement.

I read it some where on this by ThePagel, he smacked his phone button against some hard plastic object and it fixed the button issue. I suggest to wrap your phone with a towel then smack the button against a wood table....do it at your own risk!! and ThePagel can chime in if you like..

I just downloaded that module and when I press add new button, it asks me to press it but it doesn't receive the input, the button just does what it normally does. Is this because I'm on kitkat?

Good point. I don't know if the replacement would have the new bootloader that can't (as of now) be unlocked or not

I'm gonna have to say its a software glitch for the power button. Its happen to me before. Wipe data and cache is the only thing that fixed it
