The thing is you should not restore system data from other Android version, because this broke things in the system,
now if you talk about apps, you can restore the data for that app and probably you don't have trouble whit that app,
but some apps install specific version of the app for specific version of the Andriod, in this scenario you'll have problem with that app,
but there aren't so much apps that work in this way.
I hope explained this well, and sorry for my english.
Good luck.
in short...always install new apps,,,no backup nothing like that
(thanxzzz)
Use titanium backup to back up app data . working fine for me..

Use Titanium Backup and backup all of your current apps. There is a free version of it on the market
You can also use cwm.

Well the only time you have to Factory Restore (delete everything) is when going from 2 different roms. If you are on stock, you'll have to wipe and format to go to CM7. BUT if you are on CM7 and just want to upgrade to a newer version... no wipe is required. Once you flash, everything will still be installed and configured like you had it.
So if you are forced to Factory Restore and wipe everything, it is always best to just do it. Just do it and set up everything back up on the new Rom, then just upgrade that from then on.
When you use Backup programs, they tend to "carry" over stuff from other roms that can cause bugs and instabilities. A typical rule of thumb is to not restore a backup that was created on another rom. Will it work? Probably. Should You? Probably Not.
I use the free App Backup and Restore. It works, and keeps links to purchased apps intact at reinstall (e.g. it will prompt you to download the app or license file from the Android Market if needed): https://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.infolife.appbackup&hl=en
I also use APN Backup and Restore to ensure my 4G info remains intact: https://market.android.com/details?...mNvbS5yaXRlc2hzYWh1LkFQTkJhY2t1cFJlc3RvcmUiXQ..

I used titanium backup and had good results when I was on eaglesblood. I recently flashed to weapons and all my titanium backup data was gone so I couldnt restore. I think this was due to wiping and then formatting data as the instructions say to do when flashing the rom.

It's because LG ROMs use internal storage as primary storage.. Change your backup directory to sdcard/External_SD/Titanium Backup and it should work.

I know, but one of my pet peeves when installing a new ROM is having to type in APN settings manually after reinstalling my apps, so I threw that in as a bonus.
thank to everybody who helped oon this!
OK, so i have one mod and now i want to migrate to another mod.
I have a paid Titanium backup app and i know how to restore apps and their data, but i have a few questions:
1. i have customized my Titanium by having filters and backup schedules, how do i transfer these things to new mod? Reinstalling this app will get these settings lost
2. on a new mod - destination mod, how do i properly restore all the apps? Do i set to recover missing apps and app data only?
3. is it possible to get all the widgets and shortcuts on screens like i had before?
Do you mean ROM not MOD?
Not using titanium, but an easy way to back up your apps, and restore them on a new rom
If you download ext4 recovery from the market.
Find it on your phone install recovery touch beta 8
Do a backup of your current rom, and then when you flash a new rom.
Go back to recovery, choose restore
advance restore
restore only data.
It will restore all your apps etc, but keep the new rom.

Thank you, but still, there should be some other way to do that, since i might not restore all the apps, but just some of them, and i really want to have Titanium installed with the custom settings i as already use
As I understand Titanium backs up its own settings to he sd card. At least that's what mine does, I don't remember if I had to enable that in the settings though

Yeah, you have to enable it in the tb settings, otherwise it won't backup your tb settings.

I wouldn't rely on Titanium specially if you have ICS. I would use nandroid or CWM backup and restore data. You will get your Titanium as is too. You can always delete unwanted apps but if you can't restore that a diffrent story.

Im not 100%, but i think so
I'm not an expert but had done a few restore now after trying ics n goin back to gb. So with titanium, u do a restore missing apps n data...u can still deselect the app u don't want to restore
After that, u can restore some system data (in green) individually which includes ur txt msg, account info. Some can mess things up..like I restore the bookmark from gb to ics, n it crash in ics when opening bookmark
But others seems ok. To get all ur icons organized like b4, I restored the desktop one....these shld all b done just for the data if u r given a choice.
That's kinda my experience n it seems to b working ok now after I restore back to gb

Anyone ever tried nandroid backup with gingerbread, then upgrading to ICS and then trying to restore the data partition?
I'm only asking because in this case (my case) most of the restored apps keep FC-ing. Everything else is restored perfectly - call lists, sms, mms, contacts list, favourite lists, backgrounds, sounds, ringtones... - you name it, it's there. So everything besides a lot of apps after restoring from nandroid works perfect even after upgrading from GB to ICS.
SO... any suggestions how to fix the apps FCs problem restoring from nandroid data partition? Thanx
Yes you can save titanium setting to ad card and it will restore by itself. Go to preference and tick first option auto synchronized TB setting. All done

Unfortunately, i did that but it didn't work. I have the setting ticked, but i installed ICS 4.0.3 ROM and now i have a fresh Titanium Backup without any settings i had

1. you could always use a secondary backup app like System Tuner Pro to backup your applications (particularly Titanium backup) then installing System Tuner Pro first then use it to Restore Titanium to the right working order.
2. I don't get this question.
3. Sadly, No

I don't think it is a good idea restoring GB data partition onto ICS. It is known to screw up the system/applications. Your applications need to be optimised so if you flashed it, the optimisation process may be skipped or cancelled out when you flash the data partition.
OK so im running CyberGR V10, and im wondering how to properly make it to where my apps get backed up so that when i try out a new rom or wipe and flash his latest that it will auto restore the apps from the market.
I currently have it set to backup my app data to my google account... but even when playing with other roms like odie's miui it never had an option to restore my apps. Maybe im missing something.

If you worry about your text/contacts/mms/call log and dophin data, then the best backup app is called My backup or My backup root (if you rooted). Once installed, click on new backup, select data backup, now you see a list including sms, txt, mms, contact etc.. just put a check mark on what ever you want to backup then hit go. Do the same for application, just select application instead of data. During the restore, you can select what data or what app you want to restore.
Edit: If you want to backup/restore system apps, your phone needed root and you need My backup root or it won't work.

are you trying to back up your mms, calls, data, etc or are you trying to root and flash roms? if you want to back up your data, i use rom toolbox pro for all in one app. if you want to have a recovery for your roms incase you brick and need to flash your backups use recoveries like cwm or twrp. I personally use Philz touch which is great.

I'm pretty decent with root ROMs etc, but I've always been **** at backing up properly. Any recommendations on apps (old or new) and instructions on how to backup and restore my phone so I don't have to relogin to apps, or reset up apps that don't keep my settings within apps that don't keep them even if they have a log in.
Any help would be appreciated. And no, google backup won't work. Doesn't do what I want

Hi, have you tried Swift Backup?
I always use it when I switch the ROM.
Not only apps and its setting, it can restore SMS, call logs and wallpapers though it can't restore entire system.

Haven't tried it, but will on next Evolution ROM update. Do you just not do a restore when clean installing the rim? Then root and install swift, and restore? That simple?

Yep. Just backup apps before doing clean install procedure.
And install Magisk on the new ROM, then install Swift backup and restore apps so that I can use apps just like before without any 're-configuration'.
