[Q] Native tethering on VRBLJ1 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I have updated to stock VRBLJ1, rooted and unlocked. I am grandfathered into unlimited data.
I was wondering if there is a way to enable stock native tethering on Jelly Bean? Do I need to flash a custom ROM? If so, which one?
I have tried the guide in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801886 (for VRBLG1) only to get stuck in a boot loop when I replace framework-res.apk.
I have also tried to manually replace framework-res.apk as described by http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800796 also without success.

Why you must use native wifi hotspot? If dont must, you can try wifi tethet application, it works on mine.., dont forget to tickmark mss clamping and routing fix in setting
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

The wifi tether app doesn't seem to work in jelly bean for me, but it worked in ics. I have clicked mss clamping and routing fix also.

Just get a toggle widget. You don't need any modifications to make it work. Use fattin hotspot toggle from the market

Thanks! Before you posted this I tried Foxfi which also did the trick

Still giving me problems. Seems to have duplicate ip issues. I need an alternative or something

I have the duplicate IP issue too I think. Its running ok though with a WPA2 secure network. WPA and unlocked aren't working

[Hack][FC09/EL30/EH17/EH06/SRF12] [3G/4G Wireless Hotspot] Native USB/Wireless Tether

UPDATE: 9/1/2011 EH17 Hotspot Hack
UPDATE: 8/17/11 - Redownload EH06HotspotHack.zip if you downloaded it before 11:50AM on 8/17/11 pacific time, as I have reverted back to the last bit of hacked code for framework.jar. The expanded code I tried to allow it to use wasn't playing along nicely.
UPDATE: 8/16/11 - EH06 version complete. Here's a message to sprint/samsung - why you adding BS code to the functions I'm modifying? Tsk tsk.
To all users - I will not be supporting _ANY_ EG22 rom stuff anymore, as nearly all of the roms are deodexed incorrectly (too old of baksmali version) and have plenty bugs. Leaving the files attached for any lone EG22 users.
EH06+ only from now on.
Enjoy the tethering users!
VIDEO from qbking documenting process: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ql-HQBQvf3c
EH17HotspotHack.zip = DEODEXED EH17 ONLY
EH06HotspotHack.zip = DEODEXED EH06 ONLY
EG22HotspotHack.zip = DEODEXED EG22 ONLY
SRF1.2HotSpotHack.zip = SRF 1.2 ONLY (EC05 _MIGHT_ WORK, TEST!!)
BonsaiB14HotspotHack.zip = BONSAI B14 ONLY
UrbRegen111HotspotHack = Urban Regeneration 1.1.1 ONLY
Report bugs in the thread. Thanks
NOTE: REQUIRES DEODEXED ROM
NOTE2: This hack renames "Sprint Hotspot" to "Wireless Hotspot"! If it's not renamed - it didn't install correctly! 3 finger recovery boot and try installing again!! (CWM issue, bug them to fix it)
NOTE3: Files modified are /system/app/Settings.apk & /system/framework/framework.jar & /system/framework/services.jar
NOTE4: epichackedhotspot.zip attached is legacy for use on EF02 deodexed. I will not be making a 4G version for EF02 - use EG22 from now on seeing as it's better in nearly all ways.
NOTE5: Yes, I know the installer for my zips all say for EG22. The files in the zip are correct for the version you downloaded, though.
Special thanks to frogor for being a broskito
Thanks to chris41g for packaging up the zips and rounding testers (flimsy you whiner here you go ) up for me
Thanks to dodgejcr for figuring the stupid compression bug out
very nice cant wait to try
Awesome, downloading now.
And, no body else seems to have much trouble making flashable .zips? I'm not taking a crack at you, just maybe PM one of the guys around here.

Apparently it's due to the fact winrar/windows zip cannot create a zip CWM will recognize, even when implicitly told to not compress stuff.
About to upload a .zip with a modified Settings.apk and the framework.jar. This gets rid of the "Sprint Hotspot" name and changes it to "Wireless Hotspot."
Looks cleaner to me.
Wow this thread should take off here very shortly. Congrats and thanks.

So does this enable the sprint hotspot without them knowing it?
Nice, I'll have to check it out. I've been using WiFi Tether which enables Sprint Hotspot so I have something to compare it to.

Considering there's only so much that can be done to the gingerbread kernel without source, I would think all of them work.

Doesn't work on bonsai. Zip flash didn't even change the name of the app. I didn't try USB. About to flash stock deodexed and try from there.

+1 on that one. I am using Bonsai 5.0.0.13B.
Is there a way to make this work for stock (not deodexed)? Or is there an easy way to deodex? Or should I just look for a nearly stock deosexed rom and restore data?

Wireless Tether is an issue, WiFi Tether has been working fine for since it came out(3.0-pre14), have used it on Froyo and Gingerbread.
No joy with this hack, starts fine but won't allow my laptop to connect. Good news is that it doesn't interfere with WiFi Tether functionality so I can keep messing around with it to see what I can do with it.

WifiTether 3 pre 14 has been outstanding for me too. I almost cancelled Hotspot because its really good. The whole turning off 4G first thing gets to me though.

Yeah, they need to get that worked out. All you have to do is toggle Wireless Tether (the green one) on and off and you'll be able to restart Wifi Tether (yellow) without rebooting your phone.

What errors are you seeing in logcat?
What exactly is happening?
The files in this update zip _CAME_ from Chris41g's EF02 plus, which I am running right now with these hacks, so there's no reason they shouldn't work for you..
Also, this more than likely will ONLY work with Chris41g's EF02 stuff, especially if there are modifications in his Settings.apk that are particular to his ROM.
Let me know what you come across and I'll see what I can do. If it turns out it's because of my Settings.apk modification I can always remove that/put it in a separate zip for those who want "sprint hotspot" renamed.
Thanks!
(For those too anxious to wait for another zip - install it and restore your ROM's custom Settings.apk. Make sure you're only applying this to EF02! This stuff will SURELY only run on EF02 based ROMS! I am able to modify other frameworks for 2.2 etc but I need a copy of the framework.jar from the particular build/rom you use so I can perform the modification.)

The main thing that bugs me about Wireless Tether is a) it doesn't interact with our device correctly (look up the ANDROID_TETHER intents and WIFI_AP intents and see what I'm saying) and b) whenever you stop it (on ef02, anyway) it reboots the phone. This was with the latest beta.
The built in stuff is made by samsung for the phone, and communicates with the rest of the OS using certain intents that are very useful. It also works very well in my day or so of testing. (Uninstalled android wireless tether right away )

I'm having the same problem on JB stock rooted [flashed, not OTA], as the folks for whom it does not work; I had the same issue on the early JB builds. I have tried all the settings above and then some.
On the early JB builds I got Barnacle to work, but it is not working after reflash to stock. WiFi Tether is not working in any mode. EasyTether works fine, as you'd expect. :/
NS is my daily driver so I can try out any suggestions. I am wondering if it's something to do with superuser, since Roam Control is failing to obtain credentials? Or that might just be a coincidence.
Thanks,
-Tim

To start... I am by no means a developer. I usually wait for people to find the solution. I understand this is the NS forum so this might be totally irrelevant but the solution I found for wifi-tether after flashing Stock Jellybean OTA for NS4G was in the framework-res.apk file.
File /res/values/arrays.xml @ line 478 I replaced
Code:
<integer-array name="config_tether_upstream_types">

1

6

7

4

</integer-array>
With
Code:
<integer-array name="config_tether_upstream_types">

0

1

6

7

4

</integer-array>
The only thing that does not work right is that I have to turn wifi off first before enabling tethering. Since I am on boost I can not confirm if this works for 4g but 3g works for wifi and usb for the two phones I did it to. I tried just about every tethering app in the market and none of them worked. Hope this helps someone find a less crude fix

[Q] Hotspot or tether app for JB?

I'm on CleanRom 4.5. Every rom even stock seems to cause the hotspot to completely drop data all the time. At first I thought it had to do with the security but I have tried everything with no luck. Does anyone have a solution?

[Q] ATT-SGH-I727-UCLK4-odexed-cwm.zip *NATIVE* Tethering

Has anyone figured out how to enable *native* wifi tethering on this rom? The "Ultra Config" method no longer works and I dont want to use a third party app.
I am running Cyanogen Mod 10 and the native tethering works fine. Is there any way I can copy files from CM10 into this rom to enable it? I noticed in CM10 there is no ultracfg.apk in the system folder.
Thanks in advance!

I figured that is why I would ask. I will stick to CM10 or revert back to ICS until the native tether is fixed.
When I use the ultracfg.apk method I lose all internet connectivity with ALWAYS ON, when I switch back to ALWAYS OFF the connection comes back. Go fig.

It says that it started with errors and doesn't show the download and upload quantities but, my pc recognize it, as a matter of fact, I'm using it right now. I hope you can see the speed test prove here in Puerto Rico.
I'm on latest version of negalites rom and use wifi tether ap with no problems. It's in the playstore but you need root.
