[Q] Weird Data Problems with Tmobile - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hi Everyone,
I just spent 2 days recovering from LG's dumb update tool which soft bricked my phone, but was finally able to get the new baseband Mar 2012.
I am now running Hellfire 1.9 ICS, Then to get audio and any signal bars to work, I have installed the infamous newbaseband.zip. but here is my issue:
I have full bars (4 grey bars and an H), there are up arrows, but NO down arrows. SMS and phone work, but data doesnt work.
I am tired, and I have tried multiple threads.. but I am at my wits end.
According to TonyP in this post, its not the same as his problem and fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823097&highlight=getril&page=2
Suggestions, Ideas?
Thanks,
SorrowsTyr

Try to downgrade the baseband, if data works, try to upgrade again. It almost sounds like the baseband upgrade didn't do something right.

Hi Bork,
So with the old base band I had the exact same issue.

Worth a shot and can't hurt if it didn't work.
Getril? On playstore.
Also, are your APN settings there and correct?

This weird Data issue is not always present. When it is, and I try to run GetRIL, it says it can not download or update because there is no data connection LOL. But it does say RIL/baseband is matching.. but without network data I am not sure if its right..
If I am at home with wifi or the Data is working GetRIL says I have a matching baseband.
>> Also, are your APN settings there and correct?
Hmm.. when this happens I have 2 APN settings available, Simple and Tmobile.
I am a Tmobile customer, and the Tmobile option is selected.. there is a bunch of settings in the Tmobile APN.
Alot of the settings are not visible they are masked with *****. What should those settings be ?
-SorrowsTyr

I had an issue with my data too and I think that I finally fixed it today. For me it was my sim card...I took it out and wiped it off on my shirt a few times and made sure that there's no dirt/dust on it and put it back in and that fixed it. If yours is still messing up try this...

Sorry for the late reply, I just became a father .
I tried this without luck, I am going to try ask for a new simcard tomorrow.

[Q] lost data connection

First, I'm not too familiar with how ODIN works, so I'm a n00b to Samsung Galaxy S stuff. I'm used to HTC and LG. This is my fiancee's phone.
She has lost data connection. Rebooting, reregistering, turning airplane mode on/off doesn't make it come back. WIFI turns on and all that good stuff.
Here's what's currently running on her phone:
Firmware version: 2.2.1
Baseband version: T959VUVKB5
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Build number: FROYO.VUVKB5
Yes she has root. What would I need to do to get this back? If it involves flashing another ROM (been thinking about getting her on Gingerbread) than that's ok I'll just need pointed to a good guide for Galaxy S n00bs.
Thanks in advance for the help.
I'm also not sure if she has clockwork flashed or not. The phone was purchased used and was already rooted.
First go into settings > wireless and networks >mobile networks > and make sure packet data is on, if it is, go into access point names hit the menu key and click reset to default.
Make sure network mode is set to gsm/wcdma (auto mode) if not try switching between the other two options and see if that helps.
If none of that works:
You can try to Odin different modems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192436
Try the KD1 modem first and see if she can connect.
I tried the settings already. No luck with those. I will read up on ODIN and try flashing those modems. Thanks.
Might just take the plunge and flash Gingerbread for her, but she hates restoring apps and stuff. lol
I tried that modem. Same issue. Any other suggestions? I'm open for any other ideas. Nothing has changed on the phone. No new ROM, no weird apps. Same geographic area.
I'm at a loss right now. I've never had this problem on any of my phones so I've never had to troublshoot/repair something like this before.

Are you sure your APN settings are correct? for some odd reason, I had to manually set the APN's for my carrier.
Try disabling wifi, as it won't get data connection otherwise. Then go to settings, wireless and network, mobile networks and then Access Points Names.
See if the carriers APN are all set correctly. Should be t-mobile's unless it's an unlocked phone with another carrier.
are you sure that the imei's fine? or is it a generic imei?
i know this situation all to well, my efs folder got f***** and i had a back up on my sd card but as luck would have it my sd card was wiped. and ever since then i could never get a signal on the phone.
so make sure its not that issue because honeslty if it is theres not a thing that you can do about it.

Do you have a data plan on the phone? Check my.tmobile.com. If you do call tmobile and *****!

Problem with MMS

I've had a lot of problems with receiving and sending MMS lately.
As always, T-Mobile has been no help and has said everything is working fine on their end.
When i try to send it just says "sending and never does anything" and i usually don't get people's pictures.
I've even tried to change ROMS and still have the same problem. I'm currently on the ICS AOSP one.
Any help?

Did you lose your imei when flashing? That is typically the only reason to not be able to send texts if you have service otherwise.
Are you sure that you have your data turned on? MMS won't send or receive without it

and yes my data is on. When i try to send it says "sending..." and never does anything (has said it for over 12 hours now) in the mean time ive done other things using data such as web browsing and using apps. So i know my data works.

Factory reset/data wipe. It sucks to have to set the phone back up but Im sure it will help.
Whenever that happens I send an mms to myself. Somebody from t mobile said that would fix it, maybe in the my touch 4g forum, had no idea why though. Something worth trying at any rate

I actually just did that yesterday. Didn't solve the problem. I also reflashed AOKP. That didn't work. I restored to a backup of Milestone 6-1. That didn't work. I reflashed KJ6 modem. That didn't work. I flashed KG4 modem. That also didn't work. So far the only thing that seems to give me some data is running it on 2G only. I think on Monday, I'm going in to get the phone exchanged for a new one, and I'll just do a fresh flash right out of the box to ICS from stock GB. (Of course, following all the directions.)

Using the heimdall one click to stock kj6 flash back to stock. Then use the antonx one click, it sounds like you just have dust bunnies that needs sweeping up.

I'd thought about doing that, I guess I'll try it right now, since I've got time. Would I be able to just install SGS Kernel Flasher and flash AntonX's kernel from that after using Heimdall to stock rooted?
EDIT: Sorry I'm kind of hijacking this thread, but I Heimdalled back to stock, but I'm still having the connectivity issues. I have full 4G signal, but data is crawling to the point where the connection times out before I can even load anything. When I set it to GSM only (EDGE), I can get data, but not the 4G speeds I'm paying for. Reverting to Plan A and getting it replaced on Monday. (I hear it's possible it's a SIM card problem too...) Thanks for the help though.

Cant Recieve Text unless on Wifi Calling

I have a G2x that updated to the new baseband and when i am on any other rom other than stock i cannot recieve and SMS unless i am on wifi calling. I tried every other rom i could, changing ril didnt help and flashing the new baseband zip didnt help either. Any ideas why this is happening? i really want to use ICS.

Does it work on a stock ROM? Do you format system and data when you flash new ROMs?
I would like to jump in here and say I have had the same issues with both ICS and CM 10 PA ROMS I have wiped, and formatted till I am blue in the face. No change. Everything works fine with GB 2.34 BB21y but if I flash any of the above can't receive texts at all WIFI or not..Hope we can figure this out before the official release of CM10 as I would love me some Jellybean.

Need help

I was on Liquidsmooth ROM. Every thing was working fine until I crossed the border to Canada that is when I tried to make a call n I noticed that I had no signal no data. Went into wireless settings and under network mode it was on -home only- tried to change it but it wouldn't stick. Since then I flashed a couple other ROMs no change then I ODINed back to stock factory but still no change. When I'm in USA everything works fine when I cross into Canada I loose signal n data. I think I'm stuck in -home only- mode cause my phone is not switching into roaming. When in mobile networks settings under Roaming it says Not roaming. In Phone Status under Mobile network type it says unknown Service state -out of service-.
I have my phone #
My ERI Verizon is 5
My. IMEI is fine ( the usual #s)
My IMEISV. is 00
Can anyone help please . I cross the border 2-3 Times a week for a day or 2 n I need it to work in Canada for business n personal use. So please Help

To clarify, Everything was working fine until you flashed LiquidSmooth?
And then when you flashed other ROMs, and back to the stock ROM, you couldn't get services back to normal, which you had prior to flashing other than your stock ROM?
If the above is accurate, after you experienced your issues, did you flash back to the Nandroid you made prior to installing LiquidSmooth?
Or did you Always have issues when going into Canada?
I found this for now:

The only thing I can think of is try repro visioning your phone with the dialer code. I can't remember it right now, but you can find it with Google. It may not help at ask, but it's worth a shot. I've heard it does reset your phone so have a backup of any data you want to keep.

Issues with my skyrocket (used)

Guess i should start from the top here..
i purchased the phone used from a friend, the phone was having issues with crashing and locking up,
as well as constant signal loss/and wifi was also causing crashing (gingerbread 2.3.5)
so i flashed CM10.1.3 stable it's no longer random crashing, Wifi is still causing reboots(but no more locking up after booting)
tried flashing a radio for it to fix the signal problems, and no dice.
could this be in the hardware since the radio didn't seem to do crap
On Monday I'm going to try and beat a refund out of my friend for selling me a faulty phone
so if i can't get it fixed by then it's not my problem any more
update: I flashed "AT&T 2.3.6 OTA Update Radio I727ATTKK1" it actually fixed my wifi, but now i'm getting no signal at all, attempted to make a phone call and it just says "Mobile network not available"

Might as well check your APN while your at it. Is it set to wap.cingular or pta? Settings>Wireless & Networks More>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names. Which ever one it's set to change it to the other and see if the issue persists.
