I'm running CM7 on my G2X alongside Trinity kernel. I've got ROM Manager Premium on my phone to check nightlies. Whenever I get an update notification I do the following:
1) download the nightly
2) reboot into recovery
3) format /system
4) format Dalvik
5) format cache
6) install nightly
7) install google apps
8) install Trinity
I would like to find a way to automate steps 3-8 in ClockworkMod. I'm currently running 4.0.0.2. Does anybody know of a way to accomplish this?
Dude this is obviously a question, there for it should probably go in the Q and A section... Don't you think? Maybe? thread closed!

Ok here is wht you do. Pick a ICS rom in development section, download it and transfer to sdcard.
Use titanium backup to backup your apps if you want so you can restore it when you have ICS.
Then reboot into CWM recovery, wipe data/fact reset, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache. Then go to mounts amd storage and format /boot, /system ,/data and /cache. Then press back and select install zip from SDcard. Then select zip and then select the rom you chose. Select yes and it will flash. Then just reboot your phone
If you have questions PM me

Hi to everyone! I want to do a format system but I don't know how to re-install the system again in my Nexus S. Is there someone who can explain me what I have to do? Oh and another question: In order to format everything I have to do wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, format system and format boot, right? Thanks for answering

Thanks only a question: in practice that rom is the same of the stock with root permission? Or there are more function? I'm interested because i don't know rom stable as the stock (I mean with 4.1.2 or 4.1.1); I always read that are not stable yet (ex. cyanogen 10) and so I never tried one....

If you want to re-flash official's factory image, you have to unlock bootloader first,
also grab Android SDK from here: http://d.android.com/sdk/index.html, then unzip and add platform-tools's position to PATH
Did you unlock NS yet? If no, you can reference to CM's wiki:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Nexus_S:_Full_Update_Guide#Unlocking_the_Bootloader
Note: this will wipe all the data including sdcard.
Here are mac/linux's quick step:
Download official factory image from here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#sojujzo54k, then unzip it.
Boot into the bootloader.
Open terminal, and move into the unzipped folder, then type: sh ./flash-all.sh (default flash-all will wipe user data with -w)
Done.

Hope this will help.

I'm on Build 2, and for installation of Build 3, they say:
How to install SlimBean 4.2.2 build 3
For Most Users:
Download 4.2.2 from here
Addons from here
!recommended! Full wipe, and manual format /system
Flash device 4.2.2 AND the addons you want, reboot
For advanced Users:
Download 4.2.2 from here
Addons from here
wipe cache and dalvic
Flash device 4.2.2 AND the addons you want, reboot
From another 4.2.2 ROM
Reboot to recovery
Full wipe, and manual format /system
Flash ROM zip
Addons from here
Reboot
But how about the previous Build ?
For Build1 -> Build2, I didn't wipe or anything else. It went good. But I don't know if that's the proper way to do it. (I met some gmail crashes since, related ?)
(Sorry for my bad english, and for the possible wrong choice of category, I can't post in the dev section because I'm new to XDA's forums)
Thanks !:fingers-crossed:
A dirty flash should be fine since many aosp roms have an updater script. I never wipe whenever I'm coming from a previous build of the same rom. just follow the instructions for advance users. If you run into any problems then follow instructions for most users.
i would go with the " For Most Users " option as most users would be coming from build 2 or build 2.5 .. i also would recommend a full wipe , even though its not required i have found to have the best experience & fastest speed on my device by backing up and doing a full wipe so as to have a fresh install on the device.
I'd recommend a clean install because you don't want any problems after a dirty flash
Thanks for you replies !
By doing a full wipe I'll lose all my apps and their data. So if I use (my common way these days) Carbon for this, for "copying" apps and data, even if I did a full wipe, that's not a fresh and clean install at the end , isn't it ?

Just use free version of titanium backup so when u reinstall the apps the data will be put back.
Just make sure u backup the Google stuff before u wipe and flash.
Vs Nexus S4G using tapatalk2
To answer your question, restoring your data would not be considered clean, but if it works, it works.

The zip file you are installing might be corrupted. Try with a new zip file.
