cant find correct pit/tar files in odin

I'm trying to use full odin(1.7) to go back to stock an at&t captivate. I've used odin one click before without a problem, but i would like to do this with the full version of odin. I watched the tutorial video from the stickies in this forum.
I downloaded an odin+pit file I found here on xda. odin recognizes my phone, but when i go to pit I have three pit file choices(S1_odin_20100512.pit, S1_odin_20100513.pit, S1_odin_20100512.pit) and no matter which one I click, I cant find a rar file when I click pda.
I've now downloaded a couple of different rar files: I897UCJH7.rar, and I897UCJH2.rar
I dont know which one to use, or even if I'm choosing the right pit file.
the pit actually has no bearing on what file you are selecting in the pda section. unRAR the JH7 one and i bet there is a .tar file in there. thats what you need. the .tar

I don't use full odin very often but what I remember is use pit 512 in the pit box. The rar needs to be extracted and the extracted file will be a tar. That is what you would put in the pda box. And I have only used Odin 1.3. I have not heard of 1.7.

the 512 is the pit file you want. it has no bearing on the .tar file that you need.
Thanks for the help.I'll try that in the morning

[Q] Flashing CWM with odin - check image file!!

Hey I'm new herre and im trying to put clockwork mod on my phone, ive already rooted with superone click. Im using odin v3.95 and i think i need a ops file because when i try to click start with cwm loaded in pda i just get a check image file error.
Im a total noob. Please Help! Thanks
What is the filename of the file you're trying to flash?
cwm-recovery-ALL.tar
I at least figured out it had to be a .tar file.
Download 7zip and open that .tar file within 7zip...is there another .tar or .md5 file inside? There was a CWM .tar released that you had to extract the flashable file from inside of it.
Whoever packaged it made it really confusing. Check and see if that's what you got. Or link me to the file you downloaded and I'll check it out for you.

[Q] Odin and returning to stock

I haven't had the need to return to stock yet but have a question. I have rooted and done CWM already. I downloaded the stock tar file and when I open up Odin and try to select it, Odin doesn't see the file. I've redownloaded Odin and the tar file but still no luck. Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone else have this same problem? I just want to get this figured out so if I need to revert back to stock there won't be a problem. Thanks in advance.
Al
Did you extract the .tar from the .7z file you downloaded?

Oops... I had the same problem and extracting the file solved it.

First, Have you checked the md5 sum was ok?
If yes, then right-click the zip file, you'll see 7zip, go on, and you'll see all options for 7zip:
- open
- extract file
- extract here
- extract to "name of file zip"
use Extract "here" or "name of file zip"

Problem flashing s6 stock image

Hi guys
I wonder could anyone help me. I'm trying to flash a stock ROM on my s6 with ODIN. It goes so far and then fails on hidden.img I've researched it and the solution found here seems to have worked for most people. My problem is i cant get Odin to recognise the hidden.img.tar file - it just cant see it. I've tried all sorts of ways and i rename it as described and odin just wont recognise it in the right format. Please can someone help me? Just for the record what i do is:
The main image file i open with winrar. I get 8 files. i select the hidden.img file and extract and rename it as per the article. Odin i then select ap and point it at the location and it just wont find it. Odin 3.10.7 and windows 7 and windows 10
