Spigen [SGP] Screen Protectors - Nexus 4 Accessories

There are two types for $13.99/ea. Both screen protectors are dry installs.
You can choose between front and back protection or just front protection.

If I didn't just order from BSE, I'd be all over these. I'll probably get one eventually though.

I will get a bse. It will be here soon after the phone. I will keep the back on and replace the screen protector with sgp

Should I go with the Ultra Fine or the Ultra Crystal?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium

Nice. I'm waiting for their bumper cases. If they don't come out before Dec, I'd have to buy them in China. Surprisingly, it's not cheap over there, which means I'm paying more.

That's your call. I tried a Ultra Fine on my One X but because it didn't totally cover the screen I didn't like it. It was too visible, you could instantly tell I had a screen protector on it. I haven't tried UC, but I'm wary of it because I hate finger prints. I may just try UF again and hope that it fits better on the N4 than it did on the One X.

ann i will stay with non screen protector for now, i think that gg 2 will do the work for me wint no screen protector

Almost preordered one but unsure now due to the curved glass of Nexus 4. From the other screen protector thread, Spigen offers Galaxy S3 screen protectors for curved glass. Not sure if it makes a difference or if the preorder ones for Nexus 4 fit already.

Just pre-ordered the UC screen protector. Not a fan of the anti-glare stuff. I find it makes the screen not as nice afterwards and crystal keeps it awesome.

Someone email them about the back!

I personally like the Ultra Fine over the Ultra Crystal. Fairs much better under direct sunlight imo

Grrrrrr.....I wish they would have included a back glass protector as well.....

As previously mentioned, we need back protection too. It would be awesome if they release their GLAS-series protectors for the Nexus 4, they're made out of glass

If it follows suit like the SGP for the One X or S3, you need to get a wet application or Curved Cystal to cover the entire screen due to the curved/rounded edges. If you look at the "Screen Protector Type" on the SGP page it does show it as covering just the viewable screen not edge-to-edge and it's noted as "screen protector type".
I use the Ultra Oleophobic on my One X's and it covers just the viewable screen area, so you don't notice it really with the screen on but do when it's off. Since it's not edge-to-edge then you run the risk of scratches outside the screen protector area.
Read the description for the "Curved Crystal" for the S3 and it notes that it is "full display coverage": http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/sa...creen-protector-steinheil-curved-crystal.html . I use the CC on my S3 and it is excellent and really is about as close as edge-to-edge coverage as you could ask for. Almost invisible and feels almost as good as a naked screen.
I prefer the "Crystal" versions as they feel more like glass and are remarkably clear.

Not a fan of this expensive and easily scratched protectors.
Bought an ultra oleophobic one for my Sony Xperia S. Scratched in one week.
According to sgp, the ultra oleophobic one is actually hard to scratch.

You'll still need to watch out for dust! I'm thinking about going pouch + screen protector. This phone is too attractive for a case, and I never drop my devices.

That's what I'm doing, pouch + screen protector. I'm worried not about my keyes scratching the screen, but sand. Sand is the killer for screens like the Nexus 4.

i emailed spigen about a back protector and a curved screen protector for the nexus 4.
everyone email them about it!!!!
curved crystal + crystal back = WIN!
i'm still debating bumper or just a wet skin for the edges of the phone.
i'm hoping the bumper is VERY minimalistic.

Best screen protector?

Hey guys,
Right now I'm using zagg but honestly I really don't like it. It feels too much like plastic and takes away from the touch screen effect. Do you guys have any really good screen premium protectors that feel more like glass?

I got an ExtremeGuard front and back and while application for me was hard (I suck at putting these on) it has a great feel. Very smooth and not tacky.
I like the xgear fantom 4. I have one preordered it should ship in a few days. Made of glass so it shouldn't have the plastic feel.

Love the BestSkinsEver for the Nexus 4. Wet install but incredibly smooth with almost no orange peel.
Of course the installation is everything. You can have the world's best/worst screen protector depending on how you install it.

I bought Skinomi skin...and failed too bad on the front.
For some reason, the BLACK Skinomi towel spread black particles and some of there are now between my screen and the protector
Also...is superfluous me some up and some down. Is taller than N4....
Now i bought 3 extremeguard from eBay...but i think it will be the same ****...(i hope no).
I want the "Basic and Rigid" 100% Clear, cheap cover....that i had on my S3...."Screen Guard" was called.
1 or 2 "mm" smaller than the S3 just to have a little more chance to install it without excess.
Really appreciate the responses everyone. I will try one of those out for sure

I have xtremeguard in the front and back. The cut outs are good, but the covers are two to three millimeters too short along the width of the phone. The covers are wet application type which means that they have a bit of a rubber feel. The one thing that I don't like about this cover is that they eventually peel along the edges.

It depends on what you are looking for. Screen protectors (good ones) will take the impact of an object and keep it from damaging the glass. I have been a fan of xo skins for a while because they self heal and are one of the few that resist sand. If you go with a glass type or acrylic, they do feel smoother, but you will begin to see scratches and scuffs that don't go away. The wet install ones also fill in existing scratches. The xo ones have the closest to glass feel, but are still the aircraft skin type without orange peel. Just depends on what features are most important to you.

agreed, I bought the xtrmeguard as well and the size was spot-on, but the screen cover feels too rubber-ish (almost broke my fingers couple times trying to slide ), so I decided to change to regular screen protector; besides, I'm already used to leave my phone away from any sharp objects.

The 'dual' part just means front and back.
I've been using an SGP on my N4 from day one (~Dec20) and it's been perfect, comparing to the one that comes with the phone is laughable. The SGP looks and feels just like the bare glass to me. It does attract face oil and fingerprints, but that beats scratches, and it's nothing a quick wipe won't solve.

Perfect, thank you. I hate protectors because of that rubbery feel but if I would of known this.. Would of had the first day. :/ now I got 2 tiny hairline scratches that I have no idea where it came from. And Im always careful with these. Had my GS2 without one for 2yrs and nothing happen to its screen now this phone since Nov 20th and got these scratches that you can't really see unless you look carefully after wiping the screen :/ but thank you for your input. Will be buying one of these..
Anyone try this kind.. Says its HD wonder how the feel is..

Does the spg kind come with a lifetime warranty against scratches?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
I used SGP on my Galaxy S2. It works pretty nice, feels great. My only complaints were it attracts fingerprints like crazy, and a year later my screen protector has some minor scratches on it (not really visible when the screen is on). It happens since the hardness is only 4H and stuff like sand is a lot tougher than that. But I'm just glad its only the screen protector and my actual screen.
I had the Rearth Ringbo Screen protector on my Nexus 7. They fit really nice and look great. Feels fine, though the only OCD issue I have with it is when the screen is off, the screen protector displays almost like an orange peel effect (probably anti-UV coating or something). It does a better job of reducing fingerprints but its no where as bad as the SGP ones.
If I had to pick to get one for my Nexus 4... I'm leaning towards SGP again.

Matte Wet Application Screen Protector?

Has anyone seen or heard of a wet application Screen protector that covers the entirety of the front screen, but also has the matte/anti-glare finish on it?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
You're gonna have a hard time finding that. I'd say go the dry application route, and pair the screen protector with a case. It'll do a good job of covering the edges.
Thanks, that's sort of what I expected to hear. I wonder what's preventing them from being made. I know I sure would love a matte feel all the way to the edge of that curved glass

Your best bet is to stick with dry app screen protectors. The top ones I can come up with are SGP or Martin Fields. They aren't cheap at all, but I've been through cheap ebay ones enough and got tired of the texture and the clarity issue.
SGP won't cover the entire screen. It will leave some corners vulnerable but I have a diztronic case with sort of "lips" over the edges to cover most if not all the exposed areas. I think Martin Field's may cover more than the SGP, but not completely.
The older "Military Grade" of Invisible shield would be closer to sort of a matte finish. They still sell it on the website ( zagg.com ) at cheaper than their newer HD version which is their glass-like version of the screen at the same thinness. The older version also has sort of a rubberish feel to the surface, but it doesn't have that glossy/glass glare like the newer HD version.

Otterbox Commuter Screen Protector

What is the quality of the screen protector included with the Otterbox Commuter Series? I just ordered a brand new one (half off normal price on eBay), and though I already know that I love the case, I'm curious as to the quality of the screen protector that comes with it. Is there any screen clarity that is lost when it is applied correctly?
I've had the ZAGG Invisible Shield on my phone for a couple of months, and the screen quality on it was awful. It was so pixelated. I just took it off. This phone has such a gorgeous screen that if I can't have a screen protector that doesn't sacrifice the gorgeous HD display, I'd rather have none.
So I guess there's two parts here: is the included screen protector good, and if not, what is a good screen protector that works with the Commuter Series and doesn't sacrifice the screen quality?

Haven't got one for the gs4 yet but with precious otterbox I end up taking it off.
Since it only go over the screen and not stuck to the screen, it still allowed dirt and small particles to get under it. I ended up having to take the case apart to much to clean the dirt. So I took the screen protector portion off and applied a regular screen protector.
BTW you have s link to this eBay half off deal?

Yes sorry it was the Defender series that I've gotten in the past.
Well I'm 99% sure I got suckered into buying a fake Otterbox. I guess we'll see when it gets here.
I have the commuter and the screen protector that comes with it is pretty junky. It has the rainbow effect. Color streaks that you see far too often. I bought an iloome glass protector and its great! The only thing is they have crappy home buttons, they are cheap plastic or used to be. Idk if they changed to aluminum but I got an aluminum home button for a couple bucks and its all good

I can second that screen protector is junk. Hard to clean, rainbows really bad. I would recommend the spigen glas.tr nano if you have another 35 to burn. Best screen protector ive ever had.
Are these glass screen protectors easy to install cleanly? Do they leave any bubbles and is the screen still HD crisp? Also, do they fit well with the Commuter Series case? Sorry for all the questions.

They are super easy to install, Judy place on top of a clean screen and press... no bubbles because it is a solid piece of glass. There is a possibility for one large air bubble butt that is an easy fix, just lift up and slowly apply again by setting it back on top and press from the middle out.
It should fit that case but if the glass doesn't go to the edge perfectly or if the glass is too think, then it may not stay on right. Good luck!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I don't understand how the Zagg screen protectors detract from the screen quality... Yeah, if there are fingerprints on it maybe, but on a clean install I can't even tell there's a screen protector on it. To the original question though, the OB screen protector is terrible. I use the Otterbox defender, but the 1st thing I did was pop the crappy plastic screen protector off of it and put the Zagg protector on the phone. It's not like the Otterbox's screen protector is there to do anything more than prevent scratches to the screen.
I'm not sure it is clearly understood that there is a difference between the Commuter and Defender screen protectors. The Defender's is built in, while the Commuter's is a separate protector that is applied. I want to know the quality of that one.
As for the ZAGG, I've concluded that it's because of the Best Buy install. On lighter colors, the screen looked so ridiculously pixelated. It's an insult to the gorgeous screen that the S4 has.
At this point, I'll probably get a glass protector at some point, unless I love the protector I get with the case.
The iloome glass I have fits great with the commuter case. And its easy to put on. Just have to make sure the screen is clean. The glass stays straight so it very easy to align
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
Dont get the defender, the in built screen protector is worse than the separate one that comes with the commuter. It doesn't sit completely flat against the screen and will result in even worse rainbow effects and little pockets of separation that look terrible. Overall as good as the commuter case is i don't think that you would really gain much protection. That said the outside of the defender does feel really nice with the silicon.
As for glass screen protectors mine has been great and was really easy to install. Only thing is once its on, its on for good or at least until you change to a new one.
I think I'm gonna go for the iloome. It's on sale for $25 with free shipping on their website. I've spent a lot of money on protection for this phone, but it's still less than the insurance deductible on a new one.

I was worried about the same thing, but mine turned out to be authentic (I think). Look for:
Quality of silicone lining - Otterbox uses fairly stiff, yet flexible, silicone in their cases. The fakes usually use flimsy stuff that flops around and offers no protection.
Packaging - website listed on back, otterbox hologram sticker, sku sticker, etc. If the cardboard insert is printed to show a dummy screen, it's probably a fake. All of the otterbox inserts I've seen have been plain black.
A lot of people emphasize where it is made. I'm not too sure about that. I'd rather go by quality issues and obvious errors in design or packaging.
Look on youtube under "fake otterbox" and you'll see plenty of samples.
Good luck!
I must have got a good one, the screen protector that came with my otterbox commuter is just fine. No rainbow effect or anything

Im using a very thin and crystal clear SP that you almost can not notice that there is SP installed.
I forgot the brand but it cost me less than $15
My beloved galaxy SL i9003 still scratchless and I never use SP on it.
i don't use any screen protectors for any phone. I just love the feeling that my finger direct touch the screen without any protector My phone have no scratches so far, but I can't guarantee that in the future.
The glass screen is very hard and our finger/nagel/keys cannot hurt it at all, don't worry about it.
Only one thing in our all day life which harder than the glass is the sand, we can't protect our phone from sand completly, it exist on the ground everywhere, but if you don't fall your phone to the ground (and very unlucky with the screen down), the screen has very few chance to be scratched with the sand.
No screen protector, no scratches. Just exercise some caution and your screen will remain perfect
I have a couple of tiny spots and really thin scratches that can be seen when viewing at a specific angle. No screen protector, ever.
Use a glass screen protector. Dropped my phone and the glass took the scratch rather than the screen so worth it for the sake of keeping screen in tact.

Got me a gold tempered glass screen protector. It cost around $20Aud and was easy to apply. Fits well, is glass so noplasticy feel to the screen and everything registers well with screen touches.

Also came with a 2 home button extender sticker so that was no problem either...

Did you get the thinner tempered glass screen protector that is .22mm or is it the normal .33mm?
Normal works with all my cases and goodies

I think I got the .3mm glass. It fits my Otterbox great, once I punched out the built in one
Hate the built in one lol

What's cool is the tempered glass in the otterbox looks line it was made that way.

iCarez 0.2 mm tempered glass. Super easy to put on and the surface actually feels better than the naked screen.

I'm using the .3mm iCarez and I'm very impressed. I've never used a glass protector before but I love this one.
I recently received the Bepak Nano anti-blast and I love it so far. Great responsiveness and looks clean. Covers the front camera, exposes sensors and speakers.
