[Q] Mosaic 8 and 3 button fix

Hey guys
I don't know where else to post this since I am considered "new" in XDA and cant post it in Development forum. So I am posting it here in the general section.
I have a 1008 batch Captivate on Stock 2.1. The 1008 batch looses its 3 button combo for recovery and download everytime you use ODIN One click for stock 2.1 and so I applied the 3 button fix. For now, the 3 button and 2 button combos work fine. Now I want to install the Mosaic 8 ROM.
As a part of the process, I was told to apply the the AT&T GB Bootloader from I897UCKF1 and the Dark_Core Kernel using ODIN3. My friend told me that before I can apply the ROM, I will face a boot loop and so I need to use 3 button fix to get into recovery and apply my new ROM.
My question is will the 3 button fix stay on the phone even though I will be applying a new bootloader and kernel? If not, is there an alternate approach without the boot looping? Because with boot loop and no 3 button combo, I will have to use the jig and go back to stock 2.1
Thanks
Once you flash the gingerbread boot loaders, your three button combo will be fixed.
Great!!! Thanks for the clarification.

For future reference, first questions are in q&a not general, and if your question has to do with a specific ROM there are stickies on the top of that section for each ROM.
I know you're new, just a helpful tip, not waving my internets at you or anything
Btw enjoy mosaic

[Q] Problems with Clockworkmod

Ok so I'm currently trying to root and such and I was able to root my tab 2, but when i went to flash a ROM, Clockworkmod was gone, and all I had was the stock recovery. I found that I needed to use heimdall but I can't really figure out how to use it so that I can get my CWM back. I'm kinda newbie when it comes to how everything works, If anyone can help me somehow it would be greatly appreciated.
Look at the CWM thread in the 7" development forum.
I don't see a CWM thread in the 7" development forum
If you flash CWM, you need to remove the file /system/etc/install-recovery.sh or /system/recovery-from-boot.p. Otherwise, on every boot, the stock kernel will reflash the recovery partition, leaving you with stock recovery.

Sorry, I was thinking about the CWM thread in, um, another Tab 2 forum.
Go to the pinned rooting topic in the XDA forum here. Then go to the second post. Then follow the Xoomdev link...
All will be revealed. There's another thread there that addresses overwriting recovery, too.
What rooting method are you using? If your following this forum method you should have Odin and drivers installed. Maybe you didn't have root to begin with? All you need to do is to re Odin and follow instructions.

I followed the root method in this post

I used odin when I did it but i rebooted into CWM during the process and when I went back to flash it was stock.
Also how would I remove those files so that it doesnt go back to stock? (sorry for the newbieness... this is very frustrating to me and I can usually understand this fairly well)
EDIT: Figured it out, thanks guys for the help
Had the same error as you, still can't get passed it! :/
Frustrating!
Try a different USB slot. Several folks did that and bypassed initial problems.

[Q] Changing the rom?

Hi,
Yesterday, my aunt a HTC One S from T-Mobile. Seems to be a very good phone.
I'm not sure if it was me but both my aunt an I find the interface sort of difficult to use. Is it something to do with because this is a branded phone so the bloatware and menus have changed? This is considering I have Galaxy Nexus and it's pretty clean.
That being said, from reading on the forums a bit, it seems like the Europe one is unbranded and maybe the key in solving this + getting rid of the unwanted apps which were were just literally throwing icons off the screen.
My question is, for changing the roms. What is exactly the steps I need to do? When I tried reading the FAQ for here, it seems more difficult than I thought and a bit confused. Since I did flash my own Galaxy Nexus, reading the FAQ over there was more straight forward (ie. dirver, get factory image, unlock boot loader, fastboot flash...).
Your help is appreciated.
i agree with the OP. we have 3 threads in the Development section to perform the root procedure and further manipulations and they all seem to be all over the place. we need one, up to date guide.
Welcome to the forum--
First off you are in wrong section--need to post in Q&A. A mod will probably move it for you
Start by reading FAQ/Rules etc
Hard to find one and only one guide anywhere. Need to read all you can. I have gone thru some threads 3 times to understand it all
I used the Unlock/Root thread and did all manually, and had to ask one or two questions in the noob thread after I got rooted, but all pretty straight forward if you have rooted before
The 1s is a great phone--enjoy
The basics are unlock with htcdev
flash a custom rom, with with stock one as some you have to flash boot.img separately and is more difficult
flash superuser, you can also get SU from market
The unlock/root thread by torxx is fairly easy
You don't need the interim cwr anymore, get regular one from koush 5.8.3.1 I believe

Or give yourself a week or two with the phone. In the two weeks that I have had my One S, I have disabled apps that I know I will not use, I have personalized it to a point that I find it to be a very productive device.
Of course eventually I will root/unlock, etc. As of now I'm in no hurry.

Custom recoveries borked but stock not?

I have a galaxy s3 that I'm sending back for a warranty replacement, so I flashed it back to stock then when I tried to install a custom recovery so I could get triangle away I can't boot into recovery it just goes to a black screen and reboots instead. I've tried flashing back to stock tried flashing TWRP and CWM, but the same thing happens. The weird thing is when I go back to stock the normal recovery will work. Any help please I need to send back this phone within 10 days.
The bootloader is probably locked. Thus can't install custom recovery. I believe the best way to get where you want is to odin. Check the threads you'll see instructions to odin and files and how to clean counter if shows anything. Good luck.

I flashed the bootchain that is supposed to unlock the phone, unless there's something else I missed. Is there any way to root without a custom recovery?
