[Q] power button disfunction - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Long story short. Its broken
So I need volume rocker to wake phone
Most ROMs don't have this feature except cm10
Is there a zip and can flash that makes volume rocker wake phone on all ns4g jb or ICS ROMs? Any help appreciated.
I wanna run aosp but I can't for this reason so please need help thanks

Download rasbeanjelly, see my sig. It is basically aosp with very handy additions and is the fastest rom available.

I tried its not my favorite
I want PURE aosp but volume rocker doesn't wake phone up on it

You can take your nexus apart and clean the power button with a little rubbing alcohol... I did it with mine just the other day and it work fine now

Thx kind sir but I have already tried it.
I dont like cyanogenmod but that's the only type of rom that wakes from volume rocker.
Not aosp

[Q] Volume Control

The Up volume button on my Inspire has quit working. I can go into the software and change the volume there, but I can't find a software way to change the in call volume. Particularly the in call volume for Google voice. Any idea how I can adjust this?
I am using the latest stock upgrade.
I was actually having the same issue with my phone's Up volume button so any kind of help would be greatly appreciated

Try the Volume Control+ app.

I have found the down volume working but not the up button.
Phone will not boot into clockwork as a result of the volume control sticking.
Can't do much without that....
Rooted Leedroid latest version...
Changed bootloader to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161710
Can now boot without volume buttons
One of quick reboot apps gives options to do hotboot or go into clockwork by bringing up the options when u power off. Ur regular "restart" screen will have extra options. Unfortunately i forget which one it is. I'll try to find out

Inspire only boots into bootloader

My friends inspire will only boot into the bootloader. When I turn the phone it goes straight to the bootloader. The phone does recognize when you plug in a usb cable, but it won't let me scroll through the options. The phone is not rooted nor did he try to root it. It boots into that screen and won't allow you to do anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the volume button is stuck.

Did you say it is not rooted and it's booting into bootloader? How long have they had it? You sure it's not rooted? If it's not rooted call for a Warrenty exchange.

This is definitely the answer, something might possibly be in between the rocker also, like a small rock that would cause the constant connection for the "down" action that wont allow you do do anything.
It's definitely not rooted. Security is still on and he had no idea what I meant when I asked if he rooted it. The volume rocker being stuck makes sense somewhat. We got the volume rocker to work one time and did a factory reset. After that the volume rocker quit working again. Att said they wouldn't exchange it because their first thoughts were it was tampered with and that he tried to root it. I'm a cell phone repairman. Maybe il just open it up and see if there's something blocking the volume rocker.

Nexus S 4g questions

I am having few things i noticed with my phone don't know if anyone else is having it-
Back button doesn't work in any setting or app. For example if I go to phone settings disable Bluetooth back key is not lit, have to click on home and start over.
GPS takes forever to lock .
Phone doesn't have a led for missed calls, is there a app which can do bln.
phone is running stock rom (2.3.7) and its not rooted
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
Check out noled. It works pretty well.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
The back button should work. I'd say there is something wrong there. For the other things like bln you'll need to install a kernel which supports it. That requires that you root your phone.
No back button doesn't work its not lit.

You're 12 years old aren't you? Lol jk
Yes I realize that. I'm not saying I don't belive you I'm just stating that it should work and if it doesn't then there is something wrong with ether the hardware or software on your phone. Best bet would be to root it and flash a ROM from scratch.

Xoom on ICS 4.04

I recently upgraded and I know I've seen this question asked before but I can't find the threads about how to take a screen shot with ICS so I figured to ask.
Thanks for replying.

hold the Volume buttons and power buttons at the same time....
You need good timing, but it'll happen eventually....
Or give up and install a custom ROM - With EOS 2.0.0, I can take a screenshot with a long press of one of the softkeys
That's not easy to time but I will keep trying lol been wanting to try this feature. I'm not good at rooting tried it one before on another device and failed.

It's actually just volume- and power, don't try to hold both volume buttons (or the + one at all.)
I will give this a try.

[MOD] (Now working 100%) Volume Wake For SynergyRom, Beans Stock + Nosympathy [MOD]

I created a little mod for Synergy Rom and now Beans Stock Rom, and Nosympathy Rom . Its simple....You press the volume button, up or down, and it wakes the phone. I love this mod because it is a lot easier for me to just press the volume button to wake the phone rather than using the home button or power button when i am holding it in my hand.
1. Place on sdcard
2. Make a nandroid
3. Reboot Recovery
4. Flash zip
5. Reboot.
6. enjoy
If anyone else wants this mod that isn't on synergy rom but is on a deodexed rom, i will try and try and make it for you just post your android.policy.jar which is in system/framework folder.
Update: i figured out how to get this mod working 100% of the time, even when the phone is in deep sleep state. The link below is for Synergy 1.5, Beans Build6 and NoSympathyRom
Update #2 - seems to not want to work sometimes in deep sleep state, although it is working more often then initially
Please hit the thanks button if you like
Awesome! Just downloaded going to give it a shot! Its cause with my other android phones, i've always seen mods like these, but I never decided to flash it. I guess theres a first time for everything.
Edit: Also I hit my limit of thanks for today, so i'll come back tomorrow and hit that button!!!! But THANK YOU! lol.
Thank you so much! This feature is all that was missing from TW (IMHO). Thanks for getting his out to us!

Whatever the lastest one is. I downloaded the rom a few hours ago and took out android.policy.jar and modified it. Same goes for all the other roms. Works with the latest builds as of tonight

what's the chance you can be the savior in the light for using the volume rockers to skip songs when the screen is off? I have been messing with it on and off for a few days and have gotten nowhere.

On my Nexus the volume rocker was use for the camera zoom and the power button was the shutter. It was pretty sweet. Thanks for the volume wake. I was missing this since I gave up the Nexus!
Can u make a mod that skips music tracks by holding the volume buttons while the screen is off? I will pay u. We have a bounty going for this mod.
My wife and I are both using Nosympathy's latest deodexed rom with the latest stock kernel and radio. I put the volume rocker mod on both of our phones and at first it seemed to work great. Then after using it a while, I noticed that sometimes, especially after the phone sits for a while, the volume rocker will not wake the phone on the first press. Sometime it will take 2 or 3 or maybe 5 or 10 presses. Once you wake the phone it seems to work fine for a while as long as you are frequently using it. Is anyone else having the same problem? I'm not using any power saving options. The only other mod I am using is the 15 toggles.

Yeah sometimes if it is in a real deep sleep that can happen, especially if you have cpu sleep App, where is shuts down one of the processors. Do you have that app?

Nope. I have no power saving anything on my phone. The volume rocker wake used to work every time on the Verizon Nexus even with different kernels designed to sleep better for power savings. The S3 seems to wake if you tap the volume key several times quickly when it is being stubborn. I still love the mod but I hope it can be tweaked to be 100% reliable. Has anyone experianced this with other kernels or is it just the stock kernel?

No its not just the stock kernel because I am on imo's kernel. This mod is actually from my gnex. I changed the same smali code that I did on the gnex. I do remember that I had issues with it not working after deep sleep on some Rome but others it worked flawlessly. I will keep looking into it

It's the same way on Nosympathy. It works well if you have recently used your phone. It is hit and miss if it has sat for a while. It must have something to do with what stage of sleeping that the phone is into. Still better than nothing. I like it.

It's the same issue in aokp, if the phone is in a deep sleep from not being used for x period of time it doesn't seem to work. I. Still trying to figure out how to make it always work. As soon as I figure it out I will upload the package. Until then it just works when not in deep sleep.

Do you mean AOKP on the S3 or AOKP on the Galaxy Nexus? I used to use the AOKP rom on my Nexus and the volume wake worked flawlessly. I believe the phone would sleep properly too. I had amazing battery life.
