Rooting/Boot Unlocking One X - I have tried everything, this is my last resort. - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I have literally tried EVERYTHING. I have spent countless hours and actually did not go to sleep last night trying to figure this damn thing out.
I have a HTC One X running Android Version 4.0.4, HTC Sense 4.0, and Software 2.20.
I cannot figure this **** out. Right now when I run the X-Factor exploit, it gets stuck at "daemon started succesfully". When I run the HTC Drivers.exe that come with Hasoon2000's All in one kit, it doesn't even run. It does nothing.
I have restarted my computer numerous times, and I am stuck. So I'm offering this:
Anyone who helps me/leads me in the correct direction to rooting and bootunlocking my ATT One X so I can install Cyanogenmod 10,
I will give you $25 [PayPal]
I am desperate, and just want this to work.

Try my guide.

Now I'm able to make it this far:
Press any key to continue...
398 KB/s (64526 bytes in 0.158s)
[-] Failed
[+] Rebooting into bootloader mode...
[+] Press enter once the device has finished booting into bootloader mode.
Press any key to continue.
So it says it fails...why?
If I hit continue it says
[+] Getting CID:
... INFOcid: CWS___001
So It doesn't get to 111111111 Like It should.

I'm currently following your guide. I downloaded your drivers. Do I just drag and drop all of these driver files into my drivers folder in system32?
I tried doing that earlier with I think the same drivers and It didnt work.
When I plug up my HTC One X, it doesn't show up as a adb device, it shows up as My HTC.

It would be more helpful to list the things you tried, instead of just saying "literally everything".
Does adb see the phone?
Did you try different USB ports or cables? Tried a different computer (if possible)?

I'm not sure by what you mean of "does adb see the phone?
If you mean if I open up device manager and it says "adb device", then no, adb does not see it.
I did try different USB cables, I'll try a different port now.
I do not have any access to any other computer at the moment, so no.
Thanks for your time, by the way.

Install HTC sync. It will install the drivers.

Have you tried updating drivers manually? His toolkit did thesame to me but I just went to:
Right click Computer -> Manage -> driver manager
and updated my drivers from there.
EDIT: Try the post above mine, before this. I didn't even think of that, HTC Sync will install that latest drivers.
Aldo, this is technically a question so it shouldn't be here. It should be in Q&A

The problem is almost certainly the HTC drivers. Otherwise your computer won't see the phone.
You have to do this with just about every new device you root, unless you're staying with the same manufacturer.

I installed HTC Sync and used their drivers, and Im still met with the failed CID thing.
Ughhh I'm so frustrated.

Where it says failed before where it says authorize backup, are you hitting the restore option on your phone when it shows up and prompted?

Do you have the international version of the phone, or the US version?

it WILL work using the X-factor exploit.
Three main steps:
1.) Download SYNC to ensure latest drivers here
2.) make sure to RIGHT CLICK and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR (that took me f'in 27 minutes to realize)
3.) follow all on screen instructions.

Check to make sure your use debugging is on, try it. If that doesn't work... I would like to see the prompt. May have to do this through teamviewer.

Drivers may be the problem. I didn't have quite the same problem he is having( fastboot and adb didn't wont to see my device.) Spent 3 days trying to fiqure it out. Finally I gave up and installed Mac Os X on vmware and ran the mac version of x-factor and then I had no problems. You might want to try that. It was the only thing that worked for me. Htc sync, pda net, and reinstalling the driver never helped me. No matter what I did I never could get windows to see my device.

[Q] htc one x at&t soft brick help please :(

:crying: please somebody help me, im desperate, my dad just bought me the htc one x at&t for a gift after my galaxy s 2 got stolen a while back, i had previous exerience rooting, unlocking, and modding basic stuff, the only thing i didnt like about the phone was the multitasking button instead of a menu button, so i rooted it and unlocked the bootloader using the method on onexroot.com and it all worked and i installed twrp recovery, but when i flashed the button remap (cant remember which one) it now gets stuck at the one x screen, i figured this wasnt a problem and i could just download another rom and flash it, but from recovery usb wont moun it get and error something like
something about the sdcard
checking partitions
E: cant mount sd card
E: failed to open lunfile (doesnt exist)
i might be messing up but i am unable to get it to appear in adb always says device not found
am i screwed? am i stuck with a broken rom that cant be fixed?
Please help, it will mean the world to me
Uh read up on ODIN. I used it to get my friends SGS out of a soft brick. I'm not sure if it's for the one x though. What it does is after you put your phone into recovery mode or force pushes a ROM to the SD card then flashes it. Also try googling a tool to force it into recovery. ODIN might I'm not too sure though.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Can you load into the bootloader..?
<Hold power button for ~10 seconds until the buttons flash at the bottom>
<Once its off, hold the power button and the Volume Down [NOT UP = Very bad]>
That should load up the bootloader. Then you can attempt to go into the recovery again OR reinstall it through bootloader.
Now if that doesn't work, You can attempt running the 1.85 RUU from your computer. It <might> overwrite all existing partitions and create a solid and fresh foundation for re-rooting and all.
And to answer your question if you're screwed, in my experience it is almost never an issue to get your phone out of a soft brick as long as you can access some sort of recovery.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
heres the rundown
bootloader - yes
recovery - yes
adb - no
fastboot - yes
mount storage - no (makes recovery kinda useless)
i sure hope im not screwed, but since i cant find a way to get a clean rom on the phone i dont see a way to fix it, odin is strictly samsung sadly, and i know nothing about ruu, i dont care about root or anything anymore i just want my phone to work so whatever it takes
Ok, I wasnt sure about ODIN. Try an RUU. Basically an RUU is an .exe or executable file that is almost completely automated that flashes the complete package (Rom, radio, kernel). It might not work depending on what you have installed on windows (drivers and such). You might have to uninstall HTC drivers & sync and try again if that doesn't work install the drivers only then rerun the RUU. RUU is your best bet now. Download one and start the exe. Remember if you're on Mac OSX or linux you're going to have to use a Virtual machine or windows emulator to run the RUU

Mac OSX is not the right platform to be using nor is windows 8 (because it is unproven and still in beta). I would recommend using a fresh installation. If you have a windows 7 .ISO you can install it and use it for 30 days before they lock you out with out a key.
Here is a helpful tool to install it as fast as possible VIA USB (provided you have a >4GB drive) http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

ok so i download the ruu, got that, i think i have the android sdk on that computer, will that cover any drivers i need? and for the ruu what to i have to do on the phone end?
i ran "fastboot getvar version-main" and it returned "version-main: 1.73.502.1" will the difference between .502 vs .502.1 make a differnece?
Shouldn't make a difference.... And i would try running the RUU first then download the necessary drivers if that doesn't work...

The drivers you can get off of htc's website under ATT ONE X, or just search XDA for them...
You do not need any commands to run an RUU. Like I said it is completely automated...

Can you update hboot without updating stock ROM?

Hey guys, I just got 2 HTC Sensation 4Gs off of Craigslist, they are both still running Gingerbread. I want to root and custom rom, but I'm aware that I cannot install newer ICS+ ROMs without updateing the hboot.
My question is, is it easier to HTC Dev Unlock, root, s-off, Super CID, and THEN update the hboot. Or update the phone with the official ICS update (thus also updating the hboot) and THEN HTC Dev Unlock, root, s-off, Super CID?
I've already had experience rooting and s-off(ing) 2 ICS sensations, but don't know if I could do it easier if I don't update them first.
If it is easier to update the hboot after rooting Gingerbread, can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks.

Everything is listed in order.
Then, update the firmware/radio HERE , using the 3.33 Universal firmware.

I'm trying that to. Hopefully it'll get it working.

Okay, I'm having problems. I tried following [GUIDE] (For Noobs) SDK, ADB, and Drivers and now my ADB isn't working!
I tried downloading and installing the recommended SDK zip and it wasn't giving me the files he said it would, then I installed revision 9 and 15 because it said it neded them, they ended up bringing "Platform-tools" which contains another ADB.exe, and it won't let me delete it. I tried installing the latest HTC Sync and it doesn't find my phone. It still gives me the error about USBCoInstaller.dll I am going to reboot my PC but I honestly don't know what I did or how to fix it. Everytime I start any ADB including revolutionary.exe it pops open does a TON of text for a split second and then closes again. Any Suggestions after I reboot?
Edit: actually revolutionary.exe pops open and closes quickly without displaying anything.
My brother fixed it. apparently I want thinking about the fact that HTC sync can't be installed. And the driver wasn't completely installed, which he solved as well. So we're now using revolutionary.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I should have been more specific. My phone has the latest t-mobile us update firmware version 3.14.531.11 i'm running the stock t-mobile rom. Bootloader is unlocked using htc dev
Steps; I uninstalled sync from my computer and extracted moonshine in the same folder where i have adb, fastboot installed. I tested adb commands to ensure the computer could communicate with the phone then I ran the distiller.exe and i can only get just past where it checks for updates (which is does successfully) then it fails. I read somewhere in a forum to freeze htc sync on the phone and i have tried this with still no luck. I have even tried deleting the apk with no result. I'm not sure what i am doing wrong but obviously something as others seem to have no problems. I have tried this on two different computers now with the same result.
Thanks again for your help
HTC Sync is the biggest obstacle. What step are you failing. There are 3 steps for testing. I could not get past 2nd and finally decided to tun in Linux. I had installed Linux Mint v14 on second hd but do not use much. It come handy this time. Went trough with no errors. The Ubuntu have program called "wubi" (I think) that will let you install linux alone with windows. You can uninstall latter as any programs. The moonshine web site have version for linux. Some users experience success in Windows by freezing the Sync. Unfortunately, you can not uninstall without being s=off.
In developer section, there is moonshine thread. See if you can get more info there.
One of the very first things that moonshine checks for is to verify that USB debugging is turned On. I see that you have tested the adb but just wanted to make sure that the USB debugging it active.

This looks like a good place for my question.. I'm running moonshine and I love it. I'm just wondering for future reference, will I need to take any additional special steps before returning to stock via RUU. I already know about stock recovery and kernels and what not, just wondering if i will need to do anything specifically with moonshine before reverting to stock. Thanks!

[Q] Getting Error 170 while trying to RUU to 3.18...what am I doing wrong?

As the title says: I'm trying to install the 3.18 RUU for my AT&T HTC One X. I'm currently on an old build of CM10.1 (beautifully maintained by H8rift) and was wanting to try the latest build he posted with the 3.4 Kernel. I am S-Off and Unlocked. I searched the forum (internal search seems to be broken at the moment) and all I keep seeing is mostly go to fastboot THEN run the RUU. Well I'm in fastboot (enabled the menu from within CM...less I just misunderstood that completely). Fastboot shows "Fastboot USB" but the RUU still gives Error 170. What did I do wrong?
Running this on a Windows 8 x64 system, installed HTC Sync Manager (still didn't help). I updated the Android SDK Tools to the latest version. My CID is all 1's (as per the S-Off directions). I'm at a loss here hehe.
Ooh I have TWRP 2.4.1.0. And yes I barely post, just always looking, reading, etc.
Is the USB port you're using 2.0 or 3.0? If it's 3.0 (it should have the USB icon and a little ss) try switching to 2.0. Also, try running RUU while not in fastboot.

Roll, yah USB Debugging is on hehe. I even turned it off and back on. Exad: Ok. Uninstalling both HTC Sync and Samsung Kies (have to use that for my brother's Galaxy S2 Skyrocket). Uninstalling both now (might have to also run out of town so reply could be a little late).

Hey you said you were on Windows 8. You may have to manually install the driver to get it work, that's what I had to do. Or you could use the universal adb driver, but if you're gonna RUU, I'd be safe and use the HTC one.

Alrite after removing both managers (HTC and Samsung), reinstalling, and then having to turn off debugging then turn it back on...it now sees it
HT25CW****** device (first said offline but I looked at the phone and noticed it was asking for permission).
Time to continue flashing! I think what happened is I had the universal USB drivers but then had to install KIES for my bro so it replaced them. Then installing HTC on top of that made it give up. Thanks you two! I'll post if I have any other strange issues.

Annd now when I was all set to update to his latest one he posted, H8rift goes and begins posting nightlies and I don't have to downgrade touchpanel firmware! Hahaha (I had downgraded it and was about to install)! Still, thank you guys. I'm back in business!
Dear Turbo Mach 5,
Could you please provide the detailed steps you followed to RUU your ATT HTC One X.
I am also planning to update my ATT HTC One X with 3.18 RUU to use CM 10.2 based roms.
Please provide this information which will help me to start with my device.
1) Whether we need to re-lock the bootloader ? (I have SuperCID and S-Off)
2) After RUU ing whether we need to unclok the boot loader and root the device if we have SuperCID and S-off?
Thanks and Regards,
Sathish.

You don't need to relock your bootloader to the run the RUU because you have s-off. And your s-off status and unlocked bootloader should survive the RUU process. All you need to do afterwards is flash TWRP recovery again, then you can flash a ROM. Please be aware that cm10.2 is still very alpha and multiple users have reported bricks from running it.

Hi timmaaa,
Thank You very much for the clarification and update on cm 10.2 rom.
I was thinking with RUU my bootloader is going to re-lock even though I have S-off.
Thanks and Regards,
Sathish.

Hi,
I'm having trouble using the RUU as well. The problem seems to be getting the usb driver for my oneXL working. every time i plug it into my win7 pc, it goes through this installing drivers process but having clicked on "display details", the "android phone" component of the drivers says "failed". I've tried universal adb driver, and HTC usb driver with and without htc sync installed. the HTC sync manager keeps saying there is an update available for usb driver, even though I uninstalled the driver manager and htc sync.
Have not been able to get adb working, when i recently S_OFF my phone I had to use adb over wifi - but it worked.
Any help greatly appreciated, thanks!
Your post is a bit confusing as to which drivers you actually have installed. Download the latest HTC Sync Manager from the HTC One XL page at HTC.com, install it, connect your phone, drivers will install, uninstall HTC Sync Manager but leave drivers installed. Also, make sure you're using a usb 2.0 port and the HTC cable that came with the phone.

You're in the wrong section, this is the HTC One XL section, you need to go here:

Just had the same issue trying to manually update my M9 to Nougat. Rebooted to download mode (Volume down & Power from off state) and it worked.

HTC One cant figure out what I need to do

I have an HTC One M7 from sprint that I owned for not even 6 months before it started randomly bootlooping and losing signal. I gave up on it and used it as a paper weight, but now I would like to finally get it functional again as my old phone is no longer usable. I am new to Android devices. I have read thread after thread for the past 2 days and have yet to fix this phone.
I have cleared all caches and done factory resets to no avail.
The phone is stuck in bootloop if it is allowed to restart as normal. Once booted, it will immediately reboot if you swipe to unlock. If you wait, it will display "com.htc.htcdialer not responding" before rebooting again. It does not bootloop if you put it into bootloader/fastboot/recovery whatever you call it. I am trying to just load Android Revolution on to the phone instead of retrying the old OS.
I have already unlocked bootloader. I originally tried to push the androidrevolution.zip to the phone, but ADB gave an "error: device not recognized". I tried to install twrp recovery, but fastboot gets stuck at "waiting on device". I understand I'm having issues with the PC not recognizing the phone. The only android thing in device manager is "Android 1.0" and it has no driver installed. I have installed multiple drivers and tried different ports and cables. I cannot use PDANet to install drivers to recognize it because I cannot get access to the phone to enable debug mode. I cannot use sideloading because I can't get the device to be recognized. Everything I try seems like a constant circle.
I don't know if I'm giving enough information or not. I'll answer any question/give whatever info you need to solve this.
Can anyone please give me any insight as to how I can get my phone to work before I get angrier and break it?

If its a software related error you can get rid of it by flashing (installing) the stock firmware again. First you ned to check HBoot and CID. Connect your phone in "fastboot" bode, open commandline and type
fastboot getvar all
Post the output here (Delete your IMEI). Then i will get the right firmware for you and can guide you how to install it.
If the error is hardware related (signal loss?!) you probably can't do much on your own. What brings me no the next question: If you had the phone for just 6 month when the errors occured first, why didn't you let the vendor fix it? Phone still had guarantee.
It just says :
Waiting for device
My computer won't recognize the phone properly.
I took my phone to sprint and was told I would have to pay $65 for a used phone replacement, which I thought was ridiculous. I contacted HTC and was told I would have to pay shipping to send it in, and would be a week before I got an answer for it. (Fix it or refurbished one). So I said screw it, and reactivated my old phone. I'd fix it myself eventually.

Make sure you install the "fastboot" driver correctly. Are you running win 8.1?

I'm pretty positive it's installed correctly. I've deleted it and reinstalled it 3 times. The first two times I did it all manually. The one I'm currently running I got from here:

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I meant the HTC driver (for fastboot) -> Your devices must be listed as "My HTC" in the device manager. If it has a yellow exclamation mark, try to install the driver manually for "My HTC".

I had done that before but it didn't work. I tried it again but this time noticed a windows protection blocking it. I disabled it and got it all to work now!
I put the new rom on the phone but it gets stuck at the HTC screen and never loads. I read that I have to change the CID and change to S-OFF for it to work.
However, now I've got another problem that I can't find a solution to ANYWHERE.
I cannot get the phone to S-OFF. Everytime I try to change my CID I get this:
C:\Android>fastboot oem readcid
...
(bootloader) cid: SPCS_001
OKAY [ 0.004s]
finished. total time: 0.005s
C:\Android>fastboot oem writecid 11111111
...
(bootloader) [JAVACARD_ERR] SD/USBDISK Init error
OKAY [ 0.006s]
finished. total time: 0.007s
C:\Android>

I've tried manually changing the CID and using a CID script and both keep giving me the "[JAVACARD_ERR] SD/USBDISK Init error".
Any ideas??

Is your phone already S-OFF ? Uninstall HTC sync before changing the CID. If you want to flash a unbranded firmware later, make sure that its compatible with your MID.
BTW
Why don't you flash the sprint firmware again to check if your error got fixed.

No, the phone says it's S-ON. If I uninstall HTC Sync, won't that remove the drivers I needed to get my computer to recognize my phone?
I'm sorry I'm new to this, but what is MID?
I thought about retrying the original sprint firmware but I'd honestly rather just try out a new custom one.

Just relock your bootloader to use the ruu BUT if your phone is S-ON you can only RUUs that are newer or the same version number as actually installed on the phone. You can safely uninstall HTC sync, drivers persist.
The RUU link I posted is LP and was just released. Should be newer than what he was running.
