I Flashed CM10 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782009) A week ago, and its pretty much bugfree. I had to play around a bit to get the gaaps working, but if you flash from a fresh wipe you should have no trouble reinstalling fresh gaaps.

get some of dat cm10 brah

KANG CM10
Pdroid
AOKP JellyBean
Im using AOKP now.

Try paranoid Android by Dragun Korr. It's amazing! I use as my daily driver. It's stable and has lots of customization ability.

Is there any reason why you cannot test a few yourself? Its is the only way to find out which is best for you, right now you are finding what is best for other people, not for you

im not with the sensation anymore
but AOKP is the best rom known to man
and since its not officially supported, franks compiled version should be just as good

mEMBER JB
I am now on mEMBER JB 4.1.2.
He had already included the 4.2 app like camera and keyboard... it is pretty good, and the touch is more responsive than the Bruce one (it is base on teh same source but probably he modified slightly the build.prop)
Battery is not yet good enough... I had 15 hour with middle usage, something like 1h and 20 minutes on screen... but the phone seems to be always awake, probably is going to be better ion the near future.รน
Ciao

I like frankinstine's aokp JB for now. U should really try a few for a good evaluation...

Another vote for Frankenstine's AOKP JB (Initiate the Swagger).
I tried Kang's CM10, but something just didn't feel right to me. Went to AOKP (use it on my Kindle Fire as well) and haven't looked back.
Spend a couple extra minutes to flash the 4.2 camera/gallery then install the 4.2 keyboard, and this ROM can't be beat, imo. Runs fantastic OOTB, yet still has lots of customization left if you want to really personalize it to yourself.
There's a link in my sig.

How's battery life in the latest AOKP JB?

My opinion is, try all of them yourself. It's what I did, I had the exact same situation as you. Tried out all the jb roms from cm10, aokp, paranoid, miui, but in the end, came back to arhd, don't ask why

I know why this evening I will go back to ARHD or any other sense based solution... it is not possible to live with 10 hours of battery life, unless we find a solution to have better battery life it won't be possible to have JB for daily usage.

Seems fine, but I also have a 1900mAh battery.
My screen is by far the largest battery consumer @ ~80%.

Mine is 1800, I am on an xe, usually screen is far the largest "consumer" but with jelly bean even with low screen usage kind of 40 minutes my phone is dead.
Unfortunately i have found a wakeloc under proc using ad shell just after I removed jb for miui!
I will probably try the latest aokp and check for wake locks.

CM10
I'm running Bruce's CM10 ROM right now, I'd definitely pick that. I've tried AOKP too but seemed slower and CM10 just felt like a better ROM altogether.

10hrs?!? I dunno how much u use your device, but using Bruce's Cm10, and with stock battery. I get around 22hrs with an average of 2hrs ScrOn, while playing music for about 4hrs (ScrOff) at work. U really have to set it focussing on your need. Battery life beeing the only reason i ever considered rooting my device, I think Cm10 deserves a thumbs up for its BattLife possibilities. Most Rom will be set as balanced between BattLife/Perfomance when you flash it, you gotta stick with a while and learn as you go to see all the little things you can do to shift it toward BattLife.
I use my second devices(same model, htc sensation) to test Roms for a while before I decide or not to switch... and so that my Girlfriend still as a remote for the Home media center of course (she does'nt want to pay the app for her ...argh..IPhone ) and, with wi-fi On, MobData Off, it will
last about 56hrs every charges.
JB, with this rom as beaten all its predecessor for me so far, but then again..that's only my opinion.

I am really happy you are satisfied by Bruce's rom battery. You are not the first one, I read in the forum people having more than 20hrs.
I usually never had -I tried miui based in cm10, member and also Bruce... All based on same source - more than 10hrs.. I would say normal use. 1hr screen, bt on, data on and Wi-Fi... I am not pretending exceptional stats!
After your post I would like to understand how your configuration differs from mine and/or if your hardware differs from mine. Do you know a way to list all phone peripherals with detailed manufacturing numbers?
There should be a reason for the difference and I wanna find it!

Advertise CoreDroid elsewhere, he's asking specifically about CM7. Anyhow, I used to run it but the AOSP camera is a joke. There's always Senseless roms that keep the camera, but they don't feel as light weight as CM7 did. Right now, I'm waiting for CM9 before I go back to Cyanogenmod.
Id like to keep this a cm thread but thanks for letting us know bossman.

Been swapping ROMs every few days lately, but at the moment I'm on HyperSensation which is based on CM7.
CM7 is great, apart from the lack of 1080p support and sub-par camera app (compared to Sense), along with the buggy sensor usage (i.e., battery drain after an app has used the compass). Apparently the 3D Gallery was causing some issues with battery drain too.
The camera works great for me quality wise and we all know that the video recorder just crashes the phone but who cares? Unless u film stuff on the reg.

For me, a 95% working AOSP ROM is better than a 100% working Sense ROM.
So I'm running CM7 as a daily. The battery life is good (At least a full day. 2 if I don't get a lot of calls on day 1)
It's smooth and speedy.
There are a few quirks though. I can't get wifi calling to work for some reason (though it apparently works for others in CM7) and I have 1 app that won't play properly.
Other than that....
Which app wont play?

Currently running HyperSensation, and it's absolutely perfect.. I love how minimalistic it is, I actually uninstalled more apps that I don't use. Videorecording Isn't that important to me, and and I don't think the aosp camera is THAT bad lol. I also underclocked to 1ghz, because it doesn't need to be higher Imo. I'm 100% happy with this until a mode stable ICS rom is available.

Full Screen Caller ID.
The app loads and I can adjust all the settings, but it won't overlay the full screen caller picture. Doesn't work in SelfKang's version or Hyper Sensation.
Daily driver is RevertedASOP 1.2 (CM7 based) with Faux's latest kernel. Everything works well for me, and underclocked to around 1ghz it is way faster and smoother than my test ICS rom. More than a full day of battery life too.
Running Hypersensation CM rom
Tethering-both USB+WIFI doesn't work
Video camera crashes at 12 MBPS bitrate, but as i switched to 9 MBPS, its just awesome..

Only thing kept me from using is the crappy Launcher Pro performance.
I'm only commenting because you asked. I love CM, but not any of the Sensation builds. I've tried several kernels to no avail. 4-5 times a day I'm removing my battery because of freezing. I've done clean installs and not even installed programs to see if my installed apps were the problems and I still had reboots. I'll wait for a stable version of CM9. My glacier(mytouch 4g) has 7.2 unofficial and it never reboots or freezes. I'm waiting for that kind of stability. Don't get me wrong though I absolutely love CM! Go devs!
I have not liked the sensation build of cyanogen mod either. Lost of stuff that made it apparent to me that this was definitely not a priority to the cyanogen mod team. I am however anxiously waiting for the cm9 for the sensation

Well I don't mean to be a downer again but I have noticed sense about the 15 of last month we Sensation owners haven't heard anything new towards the advancement of CM9 for our device. Maybe it might be time for me to get a Nexus. Has anyone else here heard of anything at all about CM9 and Sensation?
If u mean nexus s i just came from one. Awesome phones but they get boring really fast. Il sum it up for you. Nexus s runs cm7 perfect. It runs miui buttery smooth. The cm9 alpha roms suck. The ics official rom for the nexus is garbage. More power to ya for going with a nexus it just got boring for me fast. Plus the phone feels like a plastic toy compared to our sensations. Im sure good stuff will cone to the sensation.

My ROM experience

People are always posting up new threads asking for advice on this ROM vs. that ROM. Well, I haven't tried them all, but I've tried quite a few of the more popular ones recently. I'm not going to pick these ROMS apart. If you want more info about what I liked or didn't like about a particular ROM I've tried, go ahead and ask.
I got my Sensation back in January. I used the stock Gingerbread for a couple of months. Then got frustrated when the T-Mobile ICS update got delayed and have been on a flashing frenzy ever since.
I've been trying a lot of ROMs lately. I started with ARHD, then went to Elegancia, then Hypernonsense, then back to Elegancia, then Sense 4 Elegancia, then back to 3.6, then Virtuous Inquisition, then Opensensation (CM9), and back to Elegancia again. I've also tried Sebastion, faux, and bricked kernels - I prefer bricked best.
I honestly don't a see a performance difference between Sense, stripped Sense, or AOSP ROMs. I have System Tuner Pro and always monitor memory usage. I thought that the stripped and AOSP ROMs would have gobs of free memory available, but they just don't. They're no better or worse. I also was compelled to try those ROMs to improve battery life. Again, the experience didn't match the hype.
It all comes down to personal preference. Each ROM has its own glitches. But from my experience, full Sense 3.6 ROMs are the most functional and most stable. I loved the Sense 4.0 ROM I tried, except that Sense crashed on me like 3 times a day having to pull the battery each time. For me, nothing beats the Sense widgets. I live in the email and calendar widgets for work and the music widget in the car. No other widgets come close.
I think I'm gonna quit screwing around with it for a while. I am very happy with the Elegancia Sense 3.6 ROM / Bricked kernal combo. It's pretty much already modded/themed the I way I would do it. I can just flash it and go. I will try the Sense 4.0 version again when it's more mature. I loved it, I just can't have my phone crashing on me constantly.
I still want to try MIUI and will probably try CM9 again when it's official. I really like some of the home screen setups people have been able to pull off with their AOSP ROMs. But I think the widgets will always pull me back to a full Sense ROM. The only widgets that can compete, you have to pay for - and they're still not as good. Also, the AOSP camera blows compared to the Sense camera. In the end, it's all about what's functional for you.
In conclusion, try a few, try a bunch... don't get lost in the hunt for better battery life and more performance, because - 1) those 2 things don't go together... & 2) those 2 things are largely the same across all ROMS whether you're full Sense, stripped-Sense, or AOSP. Just find what you like and enjoy!
SO wutZ da best roms to use?
Just joking, but it's too bad some people are serious.
Its all about your liking that's it otherwise there is not a rom whit better battery life than any others

I've been using Ordroid (Sense4) for a week or so now and I've found it quiet stable to be honest. I haven't experienced any crashes.
The batterylife was in 5.0.X about 17 hours (2 hours of screen turned on).
V6.0.0; I can't say if there are anything wrong just yet since its been out for about 2 days only and I've used it for 1 day. but the first batterycycle was about 21 hours with 2h 5m screen turned on. Only thing I could complain about with Ordroid is the partially working BT, I can't say anything about the Wifi-tethering issue because I am not using it.
Hmm, well I guess that was that.
The partially working Bluetooth issue is across all Sense 4 ROMs. It has to do with the fact that Sense 4 was ported from another device with different BT hardware - so the Sense drivers aren't fully compatible.
With the release of T-Mobile's official RUU, it may be time try Sense 4 again and see if some of the previous issues I experienced are fixed now. But BT will probably always only be partially working due to the driver issue.

Will I get any benefits from switching from the stock ICS to one of these?

I tried Elegancia Sense 4 again last night. I thought it was time to give it another go since there have a few builds released since the last time. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. Whatever issues I'm having are buried deeper than what gets changed from build to build.
My phone has crashed on my twice in the last 5 hours. It's unfortunate. I really like Sense 4 - I think it's cleaner & smoother than 3.6. The camera is better and faster than 3.6. But if your phone crashes on you while changing menus or doesn't wake up and you have to pull the battery all the time, then it's useless.
Does anyone else have these issues with Sense 4? Maybe another Sense 4 ROM is better? I have not yet tried another Sense 4 ROM because it seems they all use the same base. Maybe I should try another and see if it works better...
The new InsertCoin ROM Sense 4.0 is out now, looks very stable, only FM Radio not working. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546731
I just flashed OrDroid Sense 4. I'll give that one a shot. It has a different base - the new leaked Ville RUU instead of the One S. The Ville and Sensation share the same processor, so maybe that will do the trick.
EDIT: That one's no good for me either. It has its own set of glitches I'm not willing to live with.
Now trying Steve's new TMOUS Elegancia with Bricked kernel.
Any tradeoffs for non Sense ROMs? I know the camera app is better on HTC's but other than that? Is there a Torch app similar to the stock one? Etc..
...and back on Elegancia 3.7.6. lol
I am running the updated TMOUS firmware now, tho. along with the other radio fix for TMOUS users. This might be the best combo I've run yet. But I'm still anxious for a fully functional Sense 4 ROM.

Rom suggestion

GF is going out of town and needs a stable rom with good battery life. I have fell out of the loop on most roms since I've gone from smartdroid berserk to bruce's cm10 back and forth.
Asking for personal experience on roms and battery life since if she goes out of town with CM10, video chatting is out of the question since front facing camera doesn't work.
Basically looking for: battery life, stability, and working front facing camera for gtalk video chatting.
Any and all suggestions welcomed and appreciated.
Thanks ahead of time.

it takes couple of complete cycles of battery ...to get the battery properly calibrated and also for the kernel to settle
so atleast after 3-4 complete cycles of battery ( 100-3,4 % and 3,4-100%) the battery life shows up properly

Perhaps you wanna give HyperNonSense a try. It's based on Sense 3.6 but stripped off most of the Sense stuffs to give you the AOSP look and feel. The good thing about this is that the base is stable, smooth and battery friendly. Most of the components will work without problems coz it's based on a stable platform. I've been using this for months without issues and it's rock solid.

I would normally disable the built-in MMS.apk and then set GoSMS Pro as the default messaging app and everything works well for me.

My gf left already, she took cm9 but I installed HyperNonSense on my phone just to see how it runs, seems pretty fluid but there's only one thing that I noticed, I can't send picture through text(mms). OP mentions "problems with mms - flash this" i went to flash and it booted into aroma with 5 options of mms, do you know of an mms patch to find sending mms? I'm going to test the other mms in the file I downloaded.

Jelly Bean on HTC Inspire.. my experience.

I am writing my experience with Jelly bean on inspire as I wanted to read one before I tried it but didnt find anything in detail. Here is how I did it and how it has been so far:
I used THIS to root my phone and THIS is the ROM that I used. Please note that you have to install google apps separately to get access to market. Download link is on the same page as ROM.
It went quite smooth and took me about half hour before I had the phone up and running again. I have been using it for last 2 days.
So far everything I have tried has been working:
TOUCH SCREEN: works perfect.
All HARD KEYS are working.
Camera works fine
Camcorder works okay, not great though (the recorded videos have few stutters).
ixMAT scanner dint work but BarCode Scanner did.
Wifi/network data works good.
GPS works fine, i traveled some 20 miles without any problems.
Bluetooth works fine.
Phone works good. Initially it sounded like "sounds was too loud for speaker". I was able to fix that by decreasing the volume just a bit.
Accelerometer and other sensors work good.
I haven't felt any difference in battery. It charged as quickly as it did before and battery life seems okay (although I have really been using it a lot).
Performance of jelly bean:
It is amazingly smooth and fast. Initially I missed the sense UI but once i got used to NOVA launcher, it feels great. I found a launcher called "LP Sense UI". It gives the same feeling as Sense 3.0 did ( I came from Stock 2.3.5 ROM with Sense 3.0) although it is not very customize-able. If you are Sense clock lover, you may like this widget called "Sense flip clock and weather". I like its visuals. Its music apps "Apollo" is quite nice.
You can see a screenshot of my home screen.
Feel free to post if you have any comments/questions.

Update: Just discovered that by default, the system disables wifi when the phone goes to sleep which results in higher data usage. To avoid this, System settings>wifi> hit Menu and select Advanced> Keep wifi on during sleep> always. This may result in a little higher battery usage.
Update 2: Almost a week now and it is still running quite smooth despite the fact that I have tried A LOT of apps and a lot of widgets. Occasional hang ups have happened when an app becomes non responsive and I have to wait a couple of minute; happened to me twice in a week.
I used to use this rom but now I'm on miui, pretty much better when it comes to camera and battery life.
updated the OP and added a couple of screenshots..
Jellytime from RB es working great, no big issues.

I get horrible WiFi signal on my wife's inspire with all the JB Roms. I'm fairly certain its the Kang Bang kernel. Haven't tried any of the CM10 nightlies yet, but every other ROM, ICS or GB, the WiFi signal is excellent. And I know its not my router, an Asus RT-66U, I get signal on my skyrocket from that thing out in the street. Lordmod's kernel was the same way, but Existz TalonAce always proved better. Hopefully Existz will give us JB soon.

Jelly Time is a solid JB rom and I liked it when I used it for a few weeks.
Right now, I use Codefire as my daily rom.
Pacman is a great ROM as well, in the dhd development section.

The AOKP JB is really great. So far no issues
JB & ICS Roms
In the last 3 months I have used 8 different roms, on CM10 latest nightly. Seems good.
I have swappted the radio trying to find the best one. I only get about 40ft of wifi with one dot.
had the 12.69s and now back to 12.59 and it seems to pick up a little better with less battery drain.
Still playing around to find the best combo.
Thanks for sharing. I'm looking to root my htc and wasn't sure which rom to use.
I currently have the most recent and up to date Ice cold sandwich ROM, and I was thinking of switching to jelly bean. Should I make the switch? I don't know much about these ROM's my friend does, and I've heard jelly bean is a great ROM.
I've been rockin cm10.1 and can never go to ICS or even 4.1.2 again runs so smooth

JB is good...but keep in mind like any other ROM...there is going to be bugs.

Was using Sabsa prime v 8.0 which had ICS 4.0.3 and now am running CyanogenMod 10.1 with jelly bean 4.2.1 and I am not considering going back. In fact I am looking at how smoothly this 10.1 runs on galaxy note 2 so when I upgrade I can get 4.1.2 Samsung touch whiz stuff off.

I tried a few of the various jellybean roms and while I really liked them I had a few probs, wifi signal being one, on another it would just freeze up on me, another had really bad sound artifacts when I would listen to music though headphones that I just couldn't live with.
I went to ICS aospx and am content, my battery life kills my wifes stock inspire 4g while running very smoothly...
I may give another one of the jellybean roms another try with a different kernel and see what happens... but right now i'm happy so we'll see if I change it.
Thanks for sharing your experience, based on this I am going to give this a shot.
which kernel and radio suits for jelly bean?
I'm running the JellyTime ROM as well, and I'm pleasantly surprised at how well it's working. I was running CM7.2 previously, and while I liked it, there was a persistent GPS bug that was not being fixed. Navigator would lose GPS after 2 min and never recover it, although I learned that the workaround is to toggle GPS while Navigator is running. JellyTime originally had this bug as well, which apparently made it into CM10. But one of the JellyTime updates fixed it, and hopefully it was back-ported into CM10.
I've only been running JellyTime a few days, but all the important things seem to work well. One minor issue is that the backlight on the hardware keys goes out after a few seconds, rather than staying on when the screen is on or being turned on by the proximity sensor. One thing I miss was a widget in CM7.2 that pulled down notifications, which was a convenience in lieu of swiping.
Cm10.1 smooth
if you like JB, you will also like CM10.1, it's smooth so far for me, everything works or the apps I used all works. I will update, if I find any issues.

what CM10 built are you using?

[Q] Cyanogenmod 10 is really buggy. Which ROM should I use?

I want one Jellybean based with amazing battery life and and that I can change the function of the hardware buttons (so I can set the app manager to the menu key and long hold the app manager to open up the app switcher.) I would like one with good battery life (Cyanogenmod so far has been dying on me quick). Thanks.

BAKED BlackBean and AOKP are good roms.
Could you please specify what's buggy about CM10? And are you sure the poor battery life doesn't simply have to do with the large amount of whites in the interface of AOSP in comparison to Sense?
All cm10 based ROMs have the video Recording mic bug. That's the only thing that keeps me from using cm10 based ROMs.
Baked has the best battery life I've seen so far. I've used everything but paranoid android for an extended period of time.

I used ParanoidAndroid for a while, which is a very nice, smooth running ROM with a good battery life.
As Klin moved to Baked, I followed him and i do not regret Baked is even smoother, nicer and has a better battery life. Simply a great ROM!! :good:
Buggy? CM10 is as stable as any ROM I've ever used. It's been my DD since before it was even officially supported. If you think it's buggy, then the opinions of others really aren't going to sway you, so try them all and pick the one you think as the least "bugs".
Well if this is in comparison to Sense based ROMs, then any jelly bean ROM will feel buggy, as they're all aosp based and all still are wip.

I wouldn't call CM10 "wip", it's called stable now. I assume that means that it's done, basically
Also, even the vanilla Sense rom isn't perfectly stable for me, there are a few annoying bugs, for example getting stuck in airplane mode.
But then again, I haven't got the chance to actually try CM10 yet, so I should probably wait until then before I claim anything

I ended up using 2GB of data for some reason. I looked and wifi disables itself and cannot be renabled unless i reboot. I boot up an app and my screen goes to some static like stuff and then finally boots up the app (which isn't that much of a problem) but the Data issue is really something I would like to fix because I have autoupdate apps on.

I don't know about the mic but what kept me going back from CM to Sense roms is that it would not record videos on 720p or 1080p. It would save them sometimes and when you try to open them, cannot play, and deletes them. Also, the camera focus does not seem to compare to Sense camera, the latter is miles ahead. Seems to be because htc has not released the code for the camera yet.
Gaming seem smoother on CM though, and the interface is smoother/faster than Sense for me. But not being able to use well this great camera is a pity.
Maybe you need to try another baseband? It worked ok for me with the stock from TMOUS 1.53, up to the latest one from OTAs. Also works with the recommended radio from this page: http://ville.giev.de/?page_id=42
