Almost everything, car navigator, mp3 reader, usb stick for my car radio, IM, web surfing...

Rooting, Romming, Modding, Hacking, Flashing, Theming, S-offing.
Seriously thats the real fun of owning an android device

Remote PC control,
A remote for presentations and such.
Media consumption (Goodness I use my Note more like a tablet than a phone)

I mostly use my android devices for web browsing I would say. First on my OG transformer and now my nexus 7. Its come to the point where i hardly ever turn my PC on anymore. Unless I'm writing up some form of word document or something.
Also EBay, Amazon, Xda, Gmail, YouTube and virtua tennis challenge! Can't stop playing this game as I am a huge tennis man. The controls, graphics and challenge are all fantastic. Not an easy game but a lot of fun on the hardest difficulty level.
Also I use my galaxy nexus and other smartphones before it as my GPS for driving.

I use Calendar intensively and other minor apps (and of cause i like to play some games)

Watching p*rn
Seriously watching movie, xda, net surfing, gaming and some cool stuff

What to do with smartphone?

I never had a smartphone so may look like a stupid question
I know you can do many great stuff, like browsing net, listening music, using skype, watching movies, etc. But is there something really cool? I know there a thousands of great apps to download but most of them you don't need. I mean yeah you can have cool weather app in your phone but who cares, you can just go to web and look what the weather will be.. It looks like smartphone is just an expensive toy, or?
I plan on buying SGS2 and I like browsing net, watching movies, so I definitelly will find what to do with this phone, but I wonder maybe it's something cool what I still don't know
once you have a smartphone you will soon learn to rely on it for everything....it becomes a necessary evil lol
don't think of it as a phone, more like a handheld computer that can do everything you desire and still make phone calls
Games
I use mine as a to replace my psp, mp3 and usb stick. But the most useful is web browsing
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
GAMES...it's freaking me out every time playing mobile games on a touching screen
have full control ..........
Well games are something what I really don't plan to do on smartphone. Unless really cool games comes up
You do everything on it... quick computer needs, write notes, keep schedule, check mail, send mail, read news updates, play games while riding the bus. You know, the usual stuff.
I find it impossible to go back...
Convenience. What else?
You can do pretty much everything: play games, listen to music, take pictures, record video, browse your internet, download lots of useful apps from the Market, root your phone, install custom ROMs, and even make your own ROMs!
Games, Movies, Music, GPS, Camera, Calendar, Internet and more and more... and this is why it is so needed. There are so many things to do with a smartphone and i'm sure when you'll get one you won't sorry and you'll know what to do with it.
I dont use it as phone. More of a pocketable laptop.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
IMHO is a complete replacement of a pc
Games, Music, Ebooks, ..... But it can't replace a PC

[APP] Best Podcast Apps List!

Hi all! I did a bunch of searches trying to find out the best App for downloading or streaming podcasts, but the results were scattered and few. So I decided to compile a list of the best podcasting apps for android out there (with links) and ask the rest of the community to review the apps and make suggestions. As new apps are suggested I'll edit the list so that a bunch of podcasting oriented apps can be found in one place.
(Links will be placed as soon as I can. I'm new to posting, not to research. Search for these in the marketplace.)
Paid:
BeyondPod (7 day free trail)
DoggCatcher
Pocket Cast
Free:
PodKast
PodKicker
PodKicker is my favorite. It updates automatically, streams and downloads podcasts (with the RSS Link), has a simple player UI, and best of all IT's FREE!
what about listen?
As a big podcast listener, I have tried pretty much all of these. BeyondPod was the best there was on WM, but I don't quite feel this way on Android.
On Android, my personal favorite has been Pocket Casts.
https://market.android.com/details?id=au.com.shiftyjelly.pocketcasts
Pocket Casts is easily the best podcast app I have used. Also it is frequently updated and the developer is more than helpful.

Well, I had trouble with it streaming. An error would always appear. Also, the market/search was horrible.
But what does everyone else think about listen? If I get enough people saying they're on the Listen band wagon I'll add it to the list.
Posted through my Atrix 4g
On using Stitcher for awhile I've found that it's a solid app for main stream podcasts, such as NPR and CBS created podcasts, but lacks the ability to upload through a link. There are a ton of podcasts I listen to that weren't in their market, so that's a down side to me.
which one gets the best battery life? pocket casts seems to drain my battery pretty quickly, I mean I guess the phone can't sleep while playing audio but just wondering if any get better battery life when playing than others.
what podcasts do yall listen to?
Was skimming thru the latest threads and decided to reply (Incredible 2)
.podkast used to be awesome (on GB) but since I've been on ICS it's only offered in foreign languages (from the market).
It had absolutely EVERY podcast available.
-Truckin'-
Podkicker, one of the very free that has managed to find every podcast I've searched for...most of the big name pod streamers can't find popular podcasts.
It's also one of the easiest to run, and easiest on the eyes!
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I use DoggCatcher and love it. Tons of options, works great on ICS 4.0.4 (Droid RAZR MAXX) and a nice feature is I can skip ahead or backwards in podcasts (jumped by a set interval) by pushing the SKIP and PREV buttons on my car stereo. (When connected via Bluetooth)
No battery issues -- has onscreen playback controls on the lock screen and notification bar (native ICS) and I set it to only download podcasts at night when the phone is connected to power.
I use AntennaPod - it is free and minimalistic

News and social apps / Flipbook alternatives

I like flipbook on my Android phone, because in collects and mixes popular news coming from different sources like twitter, facebook, news feeds, ..
It's also very fast and has a decent layout.
But its not available for Android tablets ;-(
I tried Currents, Pulse and Tapto, but all lack the possibility to mix social feeds and news feeds.
Any alternatives?
feedly is a very nice app for on the tablet.
However I don't know if you can mix social and news feeds. I just use it for RSS.
It is called Flipboard not Flipbook.
That may explain why you can't find it.
Because as you can see in this video it works for the tablet:

indeed, wrong naming, I'll update the post.
I had a look at the video: it's not available in the play store, but I found and installed the apk: it works but is not usefull as explained in the video: only optimized for phones, not tabets.
tnx anyway!
Yeah there is no landscape mode implemented.
But maybe you are lucky contacting them and asking for one.
I barely got my infinity yesterday and was too disappointed flip board wouldn't download from the play store... So I did a search on this fine Site... "flipboard for android" and found the apk... So now I'm using that just something to think about

Nice j dee! I hate it when my youtube shuts off in the gym. Can't leave the screen on and put it back in my pocket
Come on peeps keep em coming. I like the list so far. It's small and precise not large and burgeoning. Let's go over something very relevant: STREAMING from your HD
Jbeans 4.2 Camera- Full Screen Camera (compared to 4.1.2) and gallery you could flash for your 4.1.2 phone
Mediahouse Player- An organized app that collects all the shared music videos off of shared directories on your computer use in conjunction with. Allows you to favorite directories/devices. Really neat app
mx player- easy ui can easily disable/enable hardware software encoding for audio and video during play
v player- like mxplayer, could be better with UI, but unlike MX player allows you to set buffer to a whopping 8mb...so longer initial load for video but plays back perfectly otherwise
ES file explorer- save network drives
I usually make the default player for ES v player and for media house mx player. Good setup. Mx Player allows you to manage defaults for video players in-app too. Another neat feature. Well worth the money for that app.
From the computer end there are a lot of options to stream (I made a post about this a while back...search on me) but I like PS3 Media server 1.70.1 for my PS3. It allows for real-time transcoding for devices where your video format (ie mkv) isn't available. I also install TVersity server on my computer end and both servers as well as the raw files allow me to wirelessly stream every tv show except for planet earth which has a ridiculous bitrate.
Only other thing to worry about on the computer end is to make sure your sharing settings etc are set up as openly as possible. I have a homegroup password and everyone in it is allowed to at least read my directories
Hey zetsui,
sure, I love my HOX and GNEX phones (by now even more than my PC) and why not participate in sharing cool underdog apps?
Is that Mediahouse player the one you can download from the Play Store? Sounds pretty usable to me

Way better than stock audio recorder. Can record as mp3 at 128kbit/s, good enough for me. Of course, you can increase it. Can record as ogg too.

Might be popular, but worth a mention anyway. Fast, free, full of useful features, no ads... Did I mention the slick ui?

Like setcpu, but free. You can have 3 profiles in the free version. Ought to be good enough for beginners.
Also worth checking out: servers ultimate.

These apps are in xda too, but play store linking is more convenient.
