HTC One x or Sony Xperia TL - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

So I'm wondering if anybody else's had an Xperia TL and what they think it is compared to the 1x I am kind of disappointed for the 1x because of the storage issue as well as the camera. Any thoughts?

The one x + plus is so to be released as far as I know of and its a quad core with 64gig and bigger battery just from what I have read
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium

I was looking into the tl just because I have a soft spot for Sony and love the design but every review I have read says the battery life is sub par at best. I'd say pass.

Engadget review:
the Xperia TL reads as a pale alternative to its S4 cousin, the One X. That's not to say it isn't a decent option for subscribers shopping on a shoestring -- it is. Yet, for all its pluses, the TL just can't hold a candle to the superior battery life and gorgeous Super LCD display on HTC's equally priced device.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/02/sony-xperia-tl-review-android/
But like a previous response, I'd think about holding out for the One X+.
And I believe developer activity on Sony phones is usually somewhat low? Is Sony still locking bootloaders?

For me personally, it's the lack of auto-focus assistance that bugs me. I can't get the camera to focus at all in low light because of it. IIRC, the Xperia line included this feature. The Samsung S2/S3 line definitely have it.

[SUGGEST] Buying my first Android!

Hello everybody,
I will buying my first android very soon and my budget is of INR 25,000 = 451.811 USD = 358.611 EUR
The prices are to be considered for unlocked devices.
Requirements:-
I would prefer ICS on it. It won't matter wether it comes preloaded or an update would be available afterwards.
It should have a front facing camera as now it is a requirement for me.
If possible suggest dual core smartphones.
The back camera should be minimum of 5 Mega-pixel with flash.
I would also prefer such phones which have developer community support.
It is preferable to have phones of Sony, HTC or Samsung as I don't trust other companies much.
My List:-
Sony Xperia P
I have heard it is a good phone but it's battery life may be shorter & I have also heard that due to the new white pixel techonlogy of Sony battery life is not a big problem as it consumes less power.
HTC Sensation
It is great phone but it was released last year and I have heard so may issues relating to it such as Death grip, unresponsive touch screen, poor battery life, improper viewing angles.
Suggestions are welcome but please see to it that it meets my list of requirements.

Sorry mate.
Post updated. Actually I use currency converter plugin that caused the problem while posting.
If that's the Indian rupee, $448 can get you a SGS3 if only it were available in India.. there's always buying it somewhere online and having it shipped to your country as an option.
If not, there's the Galaxy Nexus that I would recommend second.
I'd never recommend an HTC, due to in part that sense is nonsense. What's the point of going to a dev community with a sense phone if the #1 motif will be REMOVING Sense? Lol. I'd avoid HTC altogether. The beats by dre sound is a joke, just overpowered bass. Get Samsung, then combine it with voodoo sound.
Don't make the mistake of getting an SGSII though.

HTC ONE XL vs GALAXY S3

Hi I'm going to get either the HTC one X( the us version ) or the galaxy s 3( us version) they both have snapdragon s4 and a dual core but the galaxy s3 has 2 gigs of ram so I'm wondering how is that going to affect the performance especially gaming wize because I'm a HUGE gamer

To see if anybody was going to try and convince me and tell that there is no difference in performance but as no one is saying that its safe to say that the gs3 is better than the HTC one xl
Sent from my LG-E739 using XDA Premium App
It's tough to say which is better but as a One X user I can say for sure One X has a better screen. The Super LCD 2 screen on One X is actually an IPS one, just that IPS is a patented trademark. It's full RGB pixel arrangement, unlike the pentile on SGS3 which you can see fuzziness even at about 20cm despite the HD screen.
Also One X is very camera centric. Trust me it takes better photos than S3. Aperture, sensor and software implemention is to it's advantage.
Design wise I feel One X wins by a HUGE margin too, SGS3 is fugly compared to this beauty.
However to be fair, SGS3 wins in this two aspects.
One is battery life, but both phones require a daily charge anyway.
Two is the memory, as in flash storage. But since I'm using the 32GB version it doesn't affect me.
The 2GB RAM doesn't make much of a diff. Android is more than capable enough to run on 1GB. Has the international One X or SGS3 struggled with 1GB RAM?

Any ways for a android device 2gb of ram isn't really needed. Android OS implements ram much differently that many other devices. 512mbs would probably be enough. Go with the HTC One X. It has much better screen, design and the battery gets better after a few power cycles. The only downfall over the SIII is removable storage but if your like me I keep most of my files on a cloud service.

If camera is the hox main advantage then the s3 camera must be atrocious because the hox camera is plain awful. Color balance is way off kilter, and turning down saturation a bit helps but does not fix the problem and you might as well not bother with custom WB (daylight, shade, cloudy) because they all look the same and wrong to boot. I Basically the only hope for half decent pics on the hox is AWB with saturation at -1

How is the camera on the one S?

Hello,
How are you? I am considering a One S, but the camera is an important feature for me, especially in regard to image quality.
So, with that in mind, I would like to know how is the camera on the One S, in regard to the lens and sensor. Is it exactly the same on the One X?
Thank you.

The GS 3 camera isn't better, in some shots, it is, however, in other shots it isn't, overall for photos, they are more or less the same, neither are far better.
The S (and X I think?) struggle with bright reds a bit though (become far too over saturated and you just get a glow effect, have to reduce the saturation by one level when you are taking a photo of a red petal etc.)
1080P recording is far better on the GS 3 though, the light metering and smoothness is great when compared to the one S/X. However, the stereo audio recording sucks (unless it has been fixed recently?).
The 2 things, which are far better on the X and S without a doubt is the camera UI and features.
Whilst both the X and S are the same for camera, the 1080P video recording looks smoother and better on the S and I think the photos from the X look sharper[some have said that the S photos look sharper] (although there isn't a big enough difference to worry about)
You can see my photos here:

I currently have a galaxy note. But I am a bit tired of the big size. I would like a phone to be able to handle with one hand.
Has such, I am afraid the One X might still be to big.
So I am eyeing the S.
The price difference is just 50 euros here between the two.
I would also like a better camera because I am leaving my camera at home more often and relying on my phone camera...
So? Is the one S a good choice?
is the camera an upgrade from my note in IQ and low light shooting?
Cheers

8mpxl Camera Comparison

I've been wondering about the camera quality of different HTC phones. I've used a desire HD, Sensation 4G and a HTC Vivid and all those had 8mpxl snappers , I've ordered a one x off ebay and it too has a 8mp camera, (camera in One x is loaded with features though) Are there any real difference in quality?
I've been using xda for over a year and today I thought why not be part of the community. So here I am,
Don't you remember what HTC kept yelling a few months back?
Pixels don't matter!!
But seriously, you should notice a huge uptick in photo quality in comparison to those devices listed. I believe an HTC device that comes close, but not to par, with our camera is the HTC Amaze 4G, a little while ahead of the devices you mentioned.
Here's the HOXL thread for community contributions of their photos, you'll find these all over XDA likely in their specific device forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639324
I'm guessing with the more popular international HOX, there's a way more active thread that you can use to aid your comparison.
Also, here's a comparison thread between the Sense camera and AOSP camera I started a while back, in case you're interested.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943160
As I have stated in various threads the HOXL has one of the worst cameras I have ever used. The color balance of the stock photo app is terrible regardless of how you set it - the skin tones are either too red at the default saturation or too gray one ticket down. There is NO happy medium, with the exception of blazing sunshine outdoors. You can make passable images if you either tweak the colors after the fact, eg with the mobile version of PS or with a photo app that gives editing options immediately after taking a shot. And the front camera is worse than useless unless you clean the lens at least once a week. I seem to be in the minority here, yet most people I would send pics to would tend to make similar comments.

@OP
I've owned 2 of the phones you mentioned and the One XL camera is definitely an improvement. It does have some minor issues with low light and some indoor lights but it's still easily the best phone camera I've ever used.
The camera is good no doubt. But I miss using the image sense chip. Until there is a 4.2.2 version sense, I will not cone back. The updated stock camera app and frame work is awesome. However the generic android camera app is good too. In my opinion I think sense has the edge sense the software is built around the hardware obviously. That's just me though. But to non-photographers like me, the camera will suit you just fine and your draw will drop.

They say so comparing it to the M8 and it's exceptional low light performance. Obviously, E8 won't be as good as that, but I read in some Chinese review that it is a very capable 13mp unit, comparable to the S4 camera, which was considered really well back then. For a phone camera, I think that is sufficient.

The shots are ok but....that yellow tinge to every single photo really makes the photos seem dull and lifeless. Don't know if that can be fixed with adjusting the manual settings like white balance or not. Users of the phone know anything about that?

Let's see i have to take the camera issue very seriously because right now i m using xperia sp and its camera is really awful......
It doesn't have clarity, sharpness and detailing.
And full of noise and blurriness.

For an average user, I'm sure the camera will be sufficient. Easily. But if you're looking for an out-of-the-world performance, this phone it's for you. It's camera is not one of the best 13mp shooter out there.
I currently use a One S, which had a pretty decent camera itself, served me really well till now, I've clicked some amazing shots with it, and I'm sure this One E8 is better than One S.

I guess tinkering with the manual setting will improve the results a bit, but I have read at many places that it tends to click pics a bit darker. The photos don't look dull in particular, just a bit less light in them!
