[Q] How do i downgrade from 4.0.3 to 2.3.3 firmware - HTC Inspire 4G

i recently upgrade because of problems with a third party app now i want to go back to gingerbread but i dont no how from ice cream sandwich

A few things...
Wrong section, and please be a lot more clear if you want any meaningful help
It's impossible to upgrade to ICS from gingerbread using an app. You'd have to root your phone (probably using AAHK), and flash an ICS rom to get there. But if you did do that, then you'd probably know you could just wipe everything except SD card, and flash another GB ROM and be done.
Please detail everything you did to get to ICS, so we can help you. Right now my best guess is you are rooted S-off, and you used ROM Manager to flash a ROM. Which no doubt would lead to problems- ROM Manager tends to mess up the process of flashing a rom, and you'll end up with a lot of glitches.
Otherwise, I can't think of any other explanation.

Please post all questions in the Q & A section. Thanks! Thread moved.

Just full wipe and flash a GB ROM from recovery.

Ice Cream Sandwich Droid Charge Stuck in Boot Loop?

Hi, I have GummyCharged 2.0 installed and I just flashed the Ice Cream Sandwich theme from Recovery. After I clicked reboot it did and I can see the boot up for ICS but it is stuck in a loop, it looks like it just stops and then restarts itself. What did I do wrong? I cleared the data, cache, and Dalvik cache. I failed 2-3 times doing this and now I am stuck on the boot loop. Help?

Were you on GB or FroYo? I think the theme is for GB only.

I'm really starting to sound like a broken record here, but do not flash themes that aren't meant for your rom! Themes are rom specific, if you want a certain theme then find out what rom it's for then download and install that rom then flash the theme for it.
You will run into alot less problems and the forums won't be so full of these questions. I made a post here that pertains to all roms/themes.
well Im kind of a noob can u plz tell me which roms i shoikd download l? Ive been confused...
You are running a FROYO ROM, you need to be running a Gingerbread one.
Noob or not if you need more information either read more or out the phone down becasue you shouldn't be flashing it wihtout knowing what you are doing.
Hey Farabomb, so If I just flash gummycharged 1.9FE then flash gummycharged 2.0 without installing froyo voodoo peant nutter jelly time I can download the ICS theme?

Ok. I'll pretend like this is an actual question and you aren't just trying to make people crazy.
Froyo is the OLD version of Android. Gingerbread is the New(er) version.. When you download ROMs, they are labeled in some way, shape or form like GB (gingerbread) or FE (froyo edition).
When you install a theme, it is meant to work on certain roms. So if you downloaded the ICS rom which is for gingerbread, then what should you do if you have Gummy Charge FE (froyo edition) ?
Answer: You either (1) Get rid of the rom you are on, and install the proper version (Gummy Charged 2.0 or 2.1 GINGERBREAD)
or
(2)you don't install the theme, and you leave it as it is.
Or (3) Go update to the newest official OTA rom, EP4D, because it is a lot faster and works a lot better than these antiquated builds.
Also, I feel your pain. I don't understand why a dev would ever have 2 different incompatible roms with the same name and same version number. that's one of the reasons I stopped using Gummy Charged (other than the fact that it is not being developed any more).

Before I rooted a phone the first time I spent about 2 weeks reading and searching across multiple forums to get a complete picture of what I was getting myself into. I tend to be detail oriented in other aspects of my life too though.

In store they are doing upgrades on the mezmerize to 2.3.5...waiting to get mine done...
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
yep, got mine updated the other day! 2.3.5 is nice and im rooted
Was gb (2.3.4) already rooted before the update? Did you lose anything?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
when i upgraded to 2.3.5 from 2.3.4 i was rooted and lost the root and apps. but you can get it back the same way you root 2.3.4.
then the device was having problems so i called the tech support and the guy there (Alan) told me that the up date was made for a tablet. so i re-installed the 2.3.4, rooted and went custom.
You don't have to go to a store to get 2.3.5. Go to rootzwiki and flash it yourself...
ICS
Id recommend running Ice Cream Sandwich, Screw 2.3.5.
Follow the directions on a rootzwiki page, and you can easily get it.
The rom runs pretty smooth and is far better than gb.
Just remember to flash rom, flash gabbs in cwm, then gabbs fixer in cwm, then gps fixer.
Id recommend installing icy glitch to help your in-call volume settings as well.

Ice Cream Sandwich Official Vesion

I want to know if available Ice Cream Sandwich Rom's are good or not. Does it have any bugs or it works perfect. If it does I want to know the way to install that rom and also want to know if I could roll back when original updates are available.
I also want to know is it the same UI which HTC will launch and when will it come back.

If you want ICS with Sense as easy as possible, I would recommend ARHD or InserCoint ROMs. But please, take into account that all ICS Sense ROMs are based on leaked betas at the moment. So please, read very carefully before flashing something.
I'm loving ICS ROMS, mainly Virtuous Inquisition and Virtuous Quattro. Really depends what you want though. The ROMS stated above are Senseless ROMS, I personally don't like sense. It is all personal preference. AS far as "are they good," flash the ROMs and see if you like them. All your answers can be found in the forums. Are they going to be close to official ICS releases? Maybe, but keep in mind these are ICS leaks that people are creating, and if they are AOSP, then no not quite what they will officially release for ICS. However, we don't know until release, for the time being, flash a ROM and see if you like it.

ICS to Gingerbread HELP?!?!

Today I bought a slightly outdated Nexus S 4G
I immediately received an update from 2.3.7 to 4.0.4 although I was fully aware it was out of my GB comfort zone, I performed the update because people said ICS was quicker, and more responsive. Within the first 2 minutes of using I was unsatisfied. I tried to find ways of reverting back to GB, but I couldn't find much help. I don't know how to use Odin and my phone is not rooted. I can't use the recovery option without getting the 'sleeping' android with its chest open, then I have to do a battery pull. I HATE ICS and desperately want to go back to GB. Although this is most likely in the wrong forum I don't care. I just need help

Here's what I would do. Root the phone, after reading through the proper "how to's". Then you will have several Gingerbread options ... all the way from Cyanogen Mod and all it's options, down to Peter Alfonso's stock rooted versions, and Oxygen by Adam G. Once rooted, your phone's performance will be greatly enhanced, especially with GB.

Dude root your phone theres so many guides on how to do that.. and ask at q&a section not here..

1) Root Nexus S
2) Install latest CWM Recovery
3) Download Stock Gingerbread Rom From here
4) Flash it using CWM
That's it!
Nothing to really add, but how can you judge something off of using it for 2 minutes? Seems like a pretty harsh judgement for something you've barely used.

Download the cm7 in cyanogen site. Then go to goo.im and find the latest GB gapps.
Boot i to recovery
Go to mount and storage format /data/boot/system/cache. Wipe dalvic cache. Flash rom and flash gapps.

before you go back to GB, I really suggest you try CM9, It's much snappier than GB.

Root. Profit.
Custom Rom on 4.0.4 is better than Stock GB hands down!
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
Same here, but with a i9023
I:
rooted my phone
data/cache wipe + /system and /boot format
installed the stock 2.3.6 rom (no cyanogen or others, they drain too much battery)
installed fotakill.apk (just take it from any custom rom) (OTA notifications are annoying and the apk just disables them)
am enjoying a stock (but rooted) GB
Just to clarify, root is necessary on ICS in order to downgrade, but you can keep unrooted the stock GB rom
I agree with you: ICS sucks (compared to GB). Drains too much battery and doesn't offer any (important) surplus.

Flashing CM10

Hi all,
I'm still fairly new to the rooting scene but am eager to flash Bruce's CM10 build currently in the developer section? Is there anything special I must do before I flash his rom? I am still on ICS firmware and running Venom 1.1.
Thank you,
Ryan
Im guessting that you are still unrooted. You will need to be s-off and rooted to flash cmx. Thee are tutorials all over the forums and on YouTube. Im away from my computer right now or else I would link you.

No. Nothing special.
If you're running Venon ICS you should be set up properly.
Just don't use Superwipe script to clear before flashing. Use the format all partitions except SD card option in 4EXT instead.
Be sure to make a backup of your Venom ROM first. CM10 is very much a Beta build. While it works pretty darn well, there are some quirks. You might not like it enough to keep it so make a backup.

All right. Thank you very much!
On a side not, because I am curious, how come I don't have to upgrade my firmware to run Jelly Bean. Changing from Gingerbread to ICS I had to go through a whole process of downloading something I still don't understand.

First off...don't flash something you don't understand. Take the time to understand it. I promise it will pay off in the long run. As you understand more you'll be able to create your own combinations of different elements to really customize your ROM. Though fair warning, it's easy to get carried away and become a full fledged flashaholic!
Second, you don't need to upgrade firmware for JB because it's very similar to ICS. They work on the same firmware. Gingerbread was VERY different from ICS and the firmware was not interchangeable.
