[Q] External SD Card Space - T-Mobile LG G2x

just flashed paranoid android 12, while i was doing that i made a backup of my old rom in CWM and it never ended up showing up on my SD card, after flashing my rom i opened up my SD card on my laptop and it seems to be that alot of memory is going to no where.. i highlighted everything in the folder and it says its all about 350mb and all my music is about 300mb. Before i open up the SD card it says that theres 500mb out of 1.8gb free. 1.8gb - 300mb = 1.5gb. Is it the backup that i cant see thats taking up all the memory? if so how would i make it show up? or is it something else?

That is weird normally you should be able to see your backup as a folder. Mine is set under sdcard/clockwordmod/backup and the backup I got is 581mb and is very visible both to es file explorer and to my desktop pc. Something maybe up with your sdcard. I've had invisible files on a knock off 16gb MS Pro that I ordered from china. Fixed it by formatting the memory card a few times with the PC though.

how did you install CWM? with NVFlash? there are different versions that support different SD cards (one internal only, the other external)

[Q] Ext SD card

I have a question regarding the external SD card. My applications wont run and it says error while launching application. And when I connect it via usb, the selection appears for kies, media, and mass storage. If i choose media, it will show on my computer, but if i choose mass storage, it just goes back to my home screen. I am really buffed because i can browse the contents of the SD card if i use the internal file manager.
I would appreciate the help...
Wipe cache + dalvic? Idk man. That's all I really got.

You could just get another copy of tb from the market... But wiping your caches(and fixing permissions) won't effect your sd card or any data on it.
The only time I had a issue like this required me to re-format my sd...
Were you using some sort of app 2 sd? Perhaps you put a partition on it? What rom? Help us help you

yeah thanks for reminding me. I have a backup of all the contents of my SD card. Will that be enough if I reformat my SD card then transfer it back?
Should be good... Let the phone format it

After formatting and returning the files back to SD card, the error still persist... Will this error disappear if i flash to GB?
Do you have the option of mounting/un-mounting your card or does it just say mount SD? If it only says mount SD then your card is gone.

it does have unmount option. I can also see the disk spaces and also i can browse the files with the stock file browser. Bt, im now running GB 2.3.6 and still I am experiencing the problem... formatting did not fix the problem...
When you formatted it on the PC was it set as primary?
Were you trying to update your ROM by saving your apps on the sd card then reloading them onto 2.3.6? I was wondering about doing this. Maybe gingerbread and froyo read apk's differently, and if they are already installed on sd card I could see problems arising. Never worked when I tried that with any windows formatting

My first hand experience yesterday was not very successul because my SD Card is acting strangely coz it did run some apps on the new rom and the others shows error while launching. I'm on the process of reflashing and i'll post update once i'm done and run some tests...

Incorrect SD Card Size

I noticed not too long ago that when I connected my nexus s to my computer it would show that there is only a total of 14.3 gb of total space available on the SD card when in fact there should be close to 16. Has anybody else experienced this problem? I've tried formatting the SD card and fresh installing everything but nothing has cleared it up. I've done some searching as well and I couldn't find any useful information
Dude, the SD card is partitioned between internal memory and user storage. It also doesn't help that windows and memory makers measure space differently. You're good dude.

Sweet thanks! and now that I was an idiot I formated the SD Card using Disk Utility Mac OS 10.7 and CWM says "Error mounting /sdcard" when I try to install a zip
I'm still able to mount the USB storage to my computer and copy files over but CWM can't access any of the files on my phone. So basically for right now i have a bricked phone
UPDATE:
I may have solved the problem. I just relocked the bootloader and unlocked it again and when I select choose zip from sdcard in CWM 5.5.0.4 it says "no files found" instead of can't mount sdcard. I'm going to copy files back over to the phone and see if I can flash the rom I was on and get back up and running.
Let us know what happens! Hope you get it fixed.

Yeah it turns out locking the bootloader and then unlocking it again got it all sorted out. Back up and running and everything is working great

All photos and Videos missing from Xoom

This is the second time that this has happened. I lost all my video and photo files from my xoom and SD card. Im not sure why. Does anyone know how to get these files back?
Also i noticed that in both times that this happened my SD card had begin to duplicate my files as well. Soon after every folder on my sd card was duplicated 4x all my files was deleted. Now is there anyway to re-acquire these files? PLEASE HELP.
No way that I know of to get them back on the internal, but there are a couple apps that support the external SD. There is no way to recover internal storage because it is a fuse filesystem and nothing supports recovery from it, not even PC applications because it's not mountable as UMS.

Can you recommend an app that worked for you or that you know work for sure?
Never used an android app. But I have successfully used R-Studio which is approximately $80 retail, but works wonders.

external_sd vs extSdCard

sorry if this has been covered but i couldnt find the answer. when using file explorer of any kind, i find that under the home folder is listed two external sd folders. one is external_sd the other is extSdCard. both have exact same contents and permissions. when i go into the file manager in my recovery, twrp 2.6.3, the only one listed is external_sd. ive read that the external_sd was the old location not used anymore since the 4.2 updates however its the only one listed in my recovery. do i need both? can these cause problems since they have the same contents? thanks in advance. oh yes, i am on liquidsmooth 2.10 official
Do you have a external SD card in the phone? Are both of those folders the same amount of storage?

yes and yes.
apparently those two folders are shortcuts to my sdcard1 which is my external. just wondering if i need both. which one is the proper one and if i remove one, will my recovery recognize the other? OR is it supposed to be that way and im just being paranoid?

Sometimes drives get renamed funny when they are mounted. It's all the same and should both get linked to the exact same drive. It might be annoying, but you aren't harming anything having the external SD card mounted as both external_sd and extSDcard. It's just the way your phone is recognizing the SD card.

Thank you for the response. ill just leave it alone then.
My phone is the same way, but they are two different memories. One is the external SD I put in phone and other is phone storage but it's named about the SAME THING... One like 'externalSD' other being something like extSD'

They are not two different memories they are both representing the same storage facitity ex=external, ext also reads as external. My device has 2 exactly the same folders with exactly same contents, dates times in are same & named 'external SD >sdcard1' & 'extSDcard >sdcard1'. My inbuilt internal storage is named 'Sdcard'. I'm fairly sure the extra duplicate of external storage is a safe box type environment where if things go wrong the 'live' folder will be kept safe from harm...ie malware / virus etc. Its along those lines anyway but can't find my documents about it at mo

Blank MicroSD Card

I used to have to have a 32gb MicroSD card in my Note 3 which i used to use for my files. After I rooted my phone, I thought it would be a good idea to store my TWRP backups to my MicroSD card as it frees up internal storage but however after I initially made my 1st backup to my card, the system booted up and apparently the card was blank. I know this to be false as I have loads of photos on it and I selected the MicroSD card in recovery to make my nandroid backup to and after like 3 minutes, it was made.
Question is. How do I get my MicroSD card back to normal. I'm aware of formatting it and then mounting it in recovery but I don't want to lose my files on the card. I inserted the card into my laptop and the command prompt said it had a RAW file system.

I used Recuva. It's from the people that make CCleaner. Worked for me. But honestly, don't let it restore files that are partially damaged, because if they're music or photos or videos, they won't play/display correctly, and it'll cause wakelocks from the media scanner until you find and delete them.

Don't reformat, just put the microSD card into your computer (with an adapter, or with something that will let it show up as mass storage, not MTP). Point Recuva to the card. It'll tell you what files are partially restorable and fully restorable. Like I said, don't restore the damaged stuff. From experience, what'll happen if you do is you're gonna get wake locks and no app will be able to tell you which files are damaged. So you'll end up having to format the entire card anyways to get rid of the wake lock/damaged files.
