Editing thermald.config - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Can someone help me out on what exactly I need to edit on this file so my cpu settings will stick.
I am running clean kernel and its oc capable of 1.9, bit most of the time I want it set at 1.7...we it always reverts back and runs up at 1.9 even with my no Frills setting at 1.7.
Thanks

Hi joho,
find 1512000 and replace it with whatever you want your maximum speed to be when the first thermal alarm is encountered.

I changed the value from 1512000 to 1728000...and no Frills is set to only run at 1728 max, and set on boot is ticked.
The cpu still freely gets up to 1.9. I edited that fine and saved and rebooted.

I haven't had a problem getting max freq of 1.89 to stick using System Tuner.
However I wasn't able to get min freq of 192 to stick even with editing thermald.
But I did get 192 to stick after editing /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_min_freq and setting the file permissions to read only.

yep... I have profiles set.
but if u can't put scaling on demand then how is it working.
sent from my G2X with no regrets
Correct me if I'm wrong. All scaling does is how the CPU scales itself(to a given formula depending on the profile) for example if using a conservative scale the CPU scales itself by 15mhz depending on the task so if your min is 218 it would go up or down by 15 until it reaches the maximum or min. Since no kernals are available yet for our device it will use the default scaling profile built in. my screen off profile is a Max 218 Min 218 with a priority of 100. Regardless of the scaling profile selected I am forcing the CPU to down clock to that set of perimeters

You are correct in that CPU scales itself based on the parameters Nvidia gave it. In this particular kernel there is only one governer by default (this is why you cannot alter the governor settings) and it's set to Performance Powersave. The scaling driver used according to the source code is tegra_cpufreq. I haven't dug far enough through the code to figure out what that means but it appears most frequencies are in intervals of 24mhz.
so i've been hesitant to use my setcpu. just wondering what everyone set their profiles to. lol

I would attempt three things before seeking any further escalation. First I would try running fix permissions using rom manager /cwm if that doesn't work delete the apk using root explorer and reinstall the software if that doesn't work create a nand backup of your device and start from scratch. Setcpu should work with the tegra2 plus the developer you reach out to regarding this will ask you to do this regardless.

Ok when you guys first start SetCpu (after clean install), what screen do you guys get? And what selection do you make?
When i first boot the phone I have a whole bunch of options to select on which device I use. The first one should be tegra2.

[GUIDE] Undervolting for better battery life

Since this is a popular topic and since MSNBERG requested that i make this, i have decided to make it.
THE GUIDE TO UNDERVOLTING
What you will need:
PREFERABLY the application Tegrak OVERCLOCK PAID! can also use set cpu
TEGRAK
LOAD THE OVERCLOCK MODULE
go into the "TWEAKS" section and be sure to select DEADLINE as your scheduler!!!
you will see the option "OPTIMIZATION" go there
now you will see 5 levels to customize
ONLY LEVEL 0 CAN YOU CUSTOMIZE EVERYTHING
Now if you only want to undervolt with no overclock here is the chart you need to use ON GINGERBREAD:
UNDERVOLT SETTINGS
level0 - 1000 - 1155 - 1065 -------this level can change frequency but volts need to change as well
level1 - 800 - 1040 - 1035
level2 - 400 - 955 - 960
level3 - 200 - 835 - 950
level4 - 100 - 825 - 930
once you enter these in you can go to tegraks main menu and go into "PROFILE" and you can save your current settings or choose previous ones.
Here are some overclock values you can use for level 0
LEVEL 0 1100 1100 1090
LEVEL 0 1200 1195 1095
LEVEL 0 1300 1295 1115
LEVEL 0 1400 1315 1125
LEVEL 0 1500 1375-85 1150
LEVEL 0 1600 1400 1175-1200
***THIS WILL BE UPDATED WITH MORE INFO SOON
In my best Mr. Burns voice: Excellent!
Always wanted a undervolting guide. Nice!
:C my phone reboots with these undervolt values for some reason. I'm running Valhalla 1.1(haven't has the time to update and don't have wifi so...) and adrenaline shot X. I also have stability checker off so I'm sure that's not the issue. Its fine at first but then rebootes once I start mulititasking like listening to music, texting and getting on Facebook at the same time. Seems to work fine for everyone else so I don't get what's going on

Hi guys,
Sorry for the rookey questions, but :
1. Do I need to install TegraK kernel ? If so, before or after installing TegraK overclock ?
2. Will TegraK OC free version do, or i need the paid version ? what's the difference ?
3. ICY56 - I'm having the exact configuration you have (Valhalla 1.1 and Adrenaline ShotX) can you please explain what changes you noticed regarding battery consumption, and doesn't it affect your phone responsiveness, stability and performance ?
Thanks,
Itzik.
Answers
1) Tegrak will work fine with valhalla, most (if not every) custom rom has the needed kernel already.
2) You need the paid version because free version only allows overclock up to 1.3 you cant adjust anything else.
3) I can't answer as I'm not set up the same, but from my understanding you shouldn't see any negative affects, just increased battery life.
Every time I try to undervolt my phone. It reboots constantly. Even with ICBINB KJ1. Scheduler is set to deadline and governor is set to ondemand. What am I doing wrong?

Well I haven't noticed a decrease in performance and stability. The phone actually feels the exact same. As for bettery life, I can't really comment on that yet since I'm in the process of recalibrating my battery and I haven't been on UV long enough to say but so far battery life seems to be a little better

@ 1.3 GHz, this phone its rock solid, so anything higher is over kill imo.

Kernel setting my MHz's.

I'm running a faux kernel v005 that put my phone at 1.5 GHz.and when I want to amp it up alittle bit I have set cpu on my phone always set at 1188 MHz only when I want a bigger punch I knock it up to 1.728.what should I set the cpu apps governor at?and how I have my phone set up is this alright?Does any one know of a Good bricked sense kernel that would clock my cpu to 1.5-1.9.any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Hi,
With faux, you need to set it to "Intellidmand"
Then it will determine what you need, based on what you are doing with your phone.

lowest safe cpu speed for screen off and in call?

trying to make some custom setcpu profiles and curious if anyone knows what the lowest safe cpu speed for when the screen is off and also while in a call and the screen is off?
Right now I'm on VI and I'm running 368 max and 245 min which is the lowest min for this rom. I always run the lowest on min and 1 higher for max on sleep settings. I don't encounter any issues.

Don't go below 200 when screen is off. You'll get the "sleep of death" at the most inconvenient times.

I run lowest at 187MHz @ 700mV without any problem. I also set my screen off freq to that. Never tried one below that freq.
Here's a little info on using an overclocking daemon vs setcpu taken from the virtuous unity thread.
Introduction to the new Overclocking Daemon
This ROM features a completelynew wayof Overclocking and managing screen states.
The History But before explaining it further, let's talk about previous solutions. There are several different approaches to achieve "screen-state-scaling". That means basically thatthegovernor changes if you turn the screen off and changesbackto normal when turning the screen on.
This is mainly used to restrict the amount of CPU usage (the frequency in fact) during screen off. This can lead to a major battery life increase.
The solutions so far were:
Apps likeSetCPU,which changeautomaticallythe governor based on profiles Integrated solutions in the governor itself
Both these solutions have major problems.
The one with a tuner app is always a little laggy right after turning on the screen because SetCPU (or any other CPU tuner) needs some time to change the governors (up to 7 seconds). This leads mostly to major lag in the lockscreen.
The second solution is the smartass governor. It has already a screen-state-scalingincluded,so it reduces the frequency when the screen turn off. This could be a really nice solution but it has some problems too. Smartass most of the time is not really stable and has problems with its frequency scaling.
Be aware that the daemon only works if all CPU tuner apps are deinstalled. Otherwise it deactivates itself.

Thats very low. Surprised you do not get any issues.
Wish I could find the thread, but I was on a custom ROM that set the minimum CPU frequency to something below 200 by default, and I couldn't send text or MMS messages. Really weird.

System Tuner CPU governor question.

So I have been successful in using system tuner to set my CPU speeds and have them stick after reboot/shutdown. However my governor always falls back to on demand instead of my last selection. Is there any way to get this to stick?
Currently setting the startup as init.d. running synergy with their custom kernal.
Thank you!

Im in a similar pinch. If I want to make the on-demand governor remain permanent vs. the performance governor how can I make that happen?
You do have the "Set at boot" option ticked correct?
If that's not working you may need to use setCPU to do the "basics" for you and have System Tuner just do the rest. Here's a link to a free copy for XDA Members, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
