Trying to flash jellywiz jb on verizon s3 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello i am trying to flash the jellywiz ROM onto my phone. I just got the s3, rooted, and unlocked it using the app on playerstore; EZ 1 button. I have also used the EZ recovery app to flash TWP onto the phone. I made a backup of the current, stock ROM. After that, i wiped the data/factory reset, wiped cache/dalvik cache. Afterwards i installed the ROM jellywiz, reboooted it, but no luck. It is taking forever, has been near 20 minutes or so. And i know that is a bit too long, so am i missing an installation step somewhere or what?

I have no issues with jellywiz at all i have installed about 30 times to my gs3 the only time i have jelly wiz do things like you discribe is when i put a kernel or something with my install or gapps. also i use twrp as well
the steps to install are
wipe factory reset
wipe system
then install
then wipe davlik and cache
then reboot
initial boot up is about 2-5 min i have with the latest version rls11 had 20-30 min times but both times it happened i tried using ktoonz kernel.

i just installed the newest one which is RLS12, which he just uploaded not too long ago. That one worked perfectly fine. I guess maybe something was wrong with the other one. But i have it on my phone now

just pull the battery then boot back up should be fine. sometimes it will hang like that, happened to me a couple times.

I have had nine take a long time to boot up, if it takes longer than 15 minutes I usually pull the battery an reboot, if that didn't work I pull the variety and reboot into recovery and go back to my backup which I always make before I flash a new rom

[Q] Process system is not responding. Would you like to close it?

I got this while replying to a text message...
I've been getting quite alot of these, from even various applications. It's driving me nuts!!!!
Is there any (permanent) solution for this??
ROM: Gummy
Kernel version: 3.1.10_IcyGlitch_V14-BS_I896-I897 [email protected] #1
Baseband version: T959TLJL3
I'd be forever grateful if this problem could be solved... I really love this ROM
First I would reboot to recovery, then wipe cache, in advanced wipe dalvik cache, then fix permissions. If the problem comes back , I would back up your apps, msgs, that you want, then, wipe system, cache, wipe data/factory reset, and reflash. Maybe a newer rom.

This is a bug firmware, also sometimes a problem when using swap. I recommend flash newest ROM, they are much better.

I did the first thing you reommended, it didn't work and to make matters worse, ma phone doesn't pass the boot screen....
I quickly rebooted in recovery and made a nandroid backup - followed your second suggestion but i never made a backup of ma msgs because you didn't say so in the 1st suggestion... i can load new roms but can restore from ma nandroid backup
When you wipe dalvik cache, your phone can and will take several minutes to reboot, because it's rebuilding the dalvik cache. Secondly, wiping dalvik cache and fixing permissions wouldn't cause your phone to not boot. Between my wife's and my phone, I've flashed Roms, updated, experimented, fixed, stuff, etc... hundreds of times, and never has a dalvik cache wipe / fix permissions caused the phone to not boot. Hesitant to try to help, because you seem to be blaming me..... But if you can't restore a nandroid, it could be you're on a kernel in which the nandroid backup/restore feature doesn't work, you are running an earlier ICS build.

I'm sorry if i came across like that...
just that the phone is driving me nuts
ALSO.... it's the second time i am seeing where reboot take way longer than usual after restoring from a nandroid backup. I av done quite a few and reboot takes less than 10mins. I attempted one the other day and 2hrs 30mins later all i saw was the splash screen and boot animation, phone HOTT!!
This evening again, it looked as if it was going to do the same thing thing... it passed 20mins, i can't sit around waiting for that again
It sounds like a flash to stock KK4 (Full Reparation) would be your best bet. If you're already on G. B. bootloaders, I would recommend the NO BOOTLOADER version, no use flashing bootloader unnecessarily. After that, I would flash the rom of your choice, following the instructions in the O. P. line by line.
Maybe a lot more current rom.

Then I recommend re-flash the stock kk4 NO BOOTLOADER, format the internal sd, install the ROM again and install all the programs manually, not with the nandroid backup.

When installing a ROM why reboot before installing other mods?

Most ROM install instructions look basically like...
Boot into recovery
Wipe Data
Flash ROM
Reboot
Boot into recovery
Flash any Mods
Reboot
Done
My understanding is that Android builds the Cache and Dalvik Cache on boot. Why are steps 4 & 5 needed? Why not install all the code modifications and let the cache build once instead of multiple times?
I am curious as to where you saw that recomended. It reminds me of things like waiting "ten minutes after the first boot to allow the ROM to move in."
I have never rebooted after flashing only to reboot and flash more stuff, not intentionally at least. There's always the 'oh crap I forgot to flash such-and-such'.

I've never successfully managed to install user apps (in /data) at the same time as installing a ROM. I always have to install them after the ROM has booted.

I had the same problem with 2.1 and 2.5 on my phone. For some reason, the flash does not work on my phone the first time. both times I had to pull the battery when I got stuck on the boot screen then boot into recovery, re-wipe, fix permissions and reinstall. It always worked for me on the second try.
Good luck.

This happened to me once. Try to re-root the phone again then flash it.
Did you do a dalvick cache wipe too? Also were you flashing a kernel with 2.5? Are you coming from stock or a custom rom too? And if you are coming from a custom rom does it use a custom kernel? You should also check the md5 of the rom and verify it didnt get corrupt on download/transfer.

Yes i wiped the dalvick, fixed permissions, formatted just about everything and factory reset, when that did not work I formatted and wiped everything before and after the flash. still no luck. I was not flashing a kernel, (to be honest im not even sure how to do that) and im coming from a stock rooted rom that i got when i first rooted with odin. I checked the md5 and everything matched up too.
How!?

How do you re root? would i have to use odin to flash the rooted rom again?
The process of how you flashed sounds right.
When you say it's stuck forever, how much time did you give the phone to reboot. Sometimes with a new rom, it may take 5 min or longer for reboot to finish. If you haven't already, just walk away for 5-10 min before checking it.

Clean rom wouldn't install for me on my phone... Weird stuff happened on the screen during boot animation and then would vibrate like crazy and go into boot loop... I came to realize that it was the kernel and I flashed lean kernel and it worked perfectly... I think these roms act differently on everyone's phones and sometimes there's no rhyme or reason to why things work for some people and not others... Just my. 02 cents

[Q] Why did I get stuck while trying to install Viper?

Earlier, I tried installing ViperXL 2.1.0 ROM, wiped the cache, system, and factory restored in TWRP.
When I was installing the ROM, it got stuck at 90%, so I just gave up. This is my first android phone in two years, so I am just
starting to get use to ROMs again.

Do it again. I had that happen to me once.
Reboot into recovery, Wipe System/Factory reset and reflash.
If you rooted from 2.20 flash the boot.img first
Could also be a corrupt zip. Chrome used to do that to me.

Just flashed again and this time it was successful.
Unchecked the exchange mail mod because that is what it froze at earlier.
Vioe does that to ne often. It hangs at 90%. Then I simply reboot to twrp and flash again and it works without modifying anything.. it's weird

The problem is either related to TWRP or Aroma. I'm pretty sure all ROMs that use Aroma experience this, although I don't think I've had it happen to me since installing TWRP 2.3.1.0 (at least, from what I remember)
Rebooting back into recovery and reflashing usually works, no matter what the selection is.

Rooted now having problems

I rooted my phone last night and all day today had horrible battery life (4 hours little usage) along with some what looked to be screen reboots. I only rooted phone did not install a rom nor any aps other than titanium. Any ideas why why this is happening and what I should do? Not new to rooting had an incredible that I spent many hours playing with.

Which method did you use to root your phone? There are several different ways to do it.
Have you checked your battery stats to see what is using your battery? Have you tried restarting your phone?
If restarting your phone doesn't solve your issues, you could install a custom recovery and then wipe your data, cache and dalvik-cache, and then install a new ROM which should solve any of your problems (much like your probably did on your Incredible). If you don't want to use a custom ROM, there are strock, rooted images available both for flashing through ODIN as well as flashing through Recovery.
I used the casual file method. Checked battery stats and nothing out of the ordinary. Also rebooted phone several times. I have a mac so I can't use Odin to go back to stock and try again. I also don't want to install a custom rom yet because I'm waiting for some bugs to be fixed on the synergy rom before I make that jump. My main reason for getting root was to freeze some apps in the meantime (haven't frozen any yet) and to enable the gps toggle switch on car dock via nfc which is working great.

Since I can't use Odin how would I go back to stock? Install the nandroid backup i made then unroot using casual? But before trying that do you think wiping dalvik might work? Strange that this is happening.

So you do have a custom recovery installed already? You don't need Odin as long as you have a custom recovery.
You can try clearing both your cache and dalvik-cache in recovery, and then reboot to see if it solves your problems.
If it doesn't, then backup and sync your data (wiping your data won't wipe your "internal sd card", but you will lose all of your system settings). UNLOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER (search for ez-unlock on the market). Then put this on your sd card (or internal memory): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941334
Boot to recovery. Wipe data, cache, and dalvik-cache. Install that stock, rooted ROM. Reboot and reset up your phone settings.
i used the recovery that was suggested with the casual process. I think i might have fixed my issue i downloaded Rom Manager and reinstalled recovery and powered off my phone then removed battery and now the phone is smooth again but im still noticing that my battery is draining rather quick. This is very strange. Im thinking of unrooting and trying it all over again. I just need to find the original Verizon image.
